A strong 7.2-magnitude earthquake strikes Alaska's remote Aleutian Islands in the Northern Pacific Ocean.


According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake hit the Fox Islands in the eastern part of the small fishing port of Atka at 6:09 pm local time (0309 GMT) on Thursday.

The quake struck more than 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) west of the major Alaskan city of Anchorage.

There were no immediate reports on possible damages or injuries as a result of the strong tremor.

Meanwhile, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center "no current warning, watch, or advisory" has been issued for the Pacific Ocean.
