FYI:

Thousands of people in the Philippines have fled their houses due to a massive flooding of Tropical Storm Meari caused by seasonal monsoon rains in recent days.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), over 69,000 families have been affected by the tropical storm in the National Capital Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and the Bicol region in the Philippines.

More than 3,200 people who fled their homes in the capital city of Manila are now living in evacuation centers, the civil defense agency said.

The rains which have been falling continuously for the past week, intensified on Thursday, leading to a devastating storm, AFP reports.

“As the waters rose up overnight, the quick evacuation of Manila residents prevented any deaths,” said the executive director of NDRRMC, Benito Ramos.

Fifteen people, including 10 fishermen and two children, have been missing due to the terrible storm.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police has activated its National Disaster Operations Center.
