Forest density study blows hole in excess CO2 myth and the supposed need for carbon taxes

(NaturalNews) We have all heard it before. Humans are supposedly producing too much carbon dioxide (CO2), which is contributing to "global warming" -- and the only solution, of course, is to have the United Nations (UN) distribute carbon use credits and implement carbon taxes to offset an impending global disaster. However, a new study published in the online journal PLoS One helps debunk this myth by showing that the natural world is basically taking care of this excess CO2 naturally, without the need for increased government control over individuals.

Anyone with a basic knowledge of the way trees and other plants function knows that they require CO2 in order to survive. And upon absorbing CO2, plants naturally release oxygen for humans and animals to breathe. This cycle has been going on since the beginning of time, and it continues to occur today, despite the plethora of human environmental abuses that appear to have damaged and obstructed the earth in many other ways.

According to the report, much of the damage caused by increases in CO2 and deforestation has been made up for by naturally increasing forest densities, at least as far as CO2 is concerned. Based on a survey of 68 different nations, the report explains that between 2000 and 2010, the amount of carbon stored by forests in both North America and Europe has actually increased dramatically, even though the overall land area of these forests has remained largely unchanged.

Even in areas of Africa and South America where massive deforestation efforts have cleared much of the land, increasing forest densities in those that remain have made up for much of that loss. This does not discount, of course, the other types of damage caused by deforestation (loss of biodiversity, animal extinction, etc.), but it does overrule the scare tactics being propagated by climate change apologists who insist that CO2 is destroying the earth.

"Higher densities means world forests are capturing more carbon," said experts from both Finland and the US in response to the report. And the US is a perfect example of this, as its timberland area increased by only one percent between 1953 and 2007, while its actual volume of growing stock increased by a whopping 51 percent during the same time.

So rather than implement totalitarian controls over human activity in the name of saving the planet, perhaps it is time to just let nature do the job on its own.

Thanks for posting this great news!
And thanks to the trees..

They should plant more trees and use biochar which balances carbon and restores soil fertility:

Forest densities are great, but i could see some people using that excuse to keep cutting down more trees, and that is definitely not a great idea, we need people to realize we need to live in balance and harmony with nature, we need to plant trees on mass, and stop cutting down old rainforests :) Trees are our brothers too...

More CO2 was introduced into the atmosphere by the volcano eruptions in Iceland last year than Mankind has done since the industrial revolution.... actually the Romans did more harm through there use of lead and the overall toxic lead pollution of conquered lands still being felt today.

As for global warming I actually thought it was a good thing for all the plant life on the Earth, it stimulates growth, so the more we burn the stronger nature becomes, this is not the same as pollution of the atmosphere before you all jump on me. During pre-historic times the Earth was much warmer and vegetation was far more lush and vibrant supporting a larger biodiversity of animals than it is capable of today. After all that is the original source of the very oil we use today... and when you think about it Nature will eventually start the cycle again if left to her own devices.

I would say, it's not a reason to prevent reducing the use of fossil energy drastically, but it is again a proof that Nature will prevail. Life always find a way, always. We as society, should simply follow the way of Nature with the highest respect and admiration.

Thanks for the good news!

Namaste, Steven

Tree hugging improves your health

(NaturalNews) Tree hugging, that much maligned hippy generation idea, has now been shown to have scientific validity after all. Contrary to popular belief, touching a tree does make you healthier. In fact you don't even have to touch the tree to get better, just being within its vicinity has the same effect.

In a recently published book, Blinded by Science, (www.blindedbyscience.co.uk) the author Matthew Silverstone, proves scientifically that trees improve many health issues such as; mental illnesses, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), concentration levels, reaction times, depression and the ability to alleviate headaches.

Countless studies have shown that children show significant psychological and physiological effects in terms of their health and well being when they interact with plants. They demonstrate that children function better cognitively and emotionally in green environments and have more creative play in green areas.

A large public health report that investigated the association between green spaces and mental health concluded that "access to nature can significantly contribute to our mental capital and wellbeing".

So what is it about nature that can have these significant effects? Up until now it has been thought to be the open green spaces that cause this effect. However, Matthew Silverstone, shows that it is nothing to do with this by proving scientifically that it is the vibrational properties of trees and plants that give us the health benefits and not the open green spaces.

The answer to how plants and trees affect us physiologically turns out to be very simple. It is all to do with the fact that everything vibrates, and different vibrations affect biological behaviours. It has been proven that if you drink a glass of water that has been treated with a 10Hz vibration your blood coagulation rates will change immediately on ingesting the treated water. It is the same with trees, when touching a tree its different vibrational pattern will affect various biological behaviours within your body.

This vibrational idea is backed up throughout the book by hundreds of scientific studies to provide overwhelming proof that tree hugging after all is not such a crazy idea. Not only is it good for our health but it can also save the Government a lot of money by offering an alternative form of treatment that is free.

One report concluded with the following: "safe, green spaces may be as effective as prescription drugs in treating some forms of mental illnesses".

Wouldn't it be nice to hear from now on that doctors treat some forms of illnesses by suggesting a walk in the park rather than taking a packet full of pills.

So the truth in the hippie mantra of tree hugging didn't fall far from the tree (sorry, couldn't resist saying that ;)).

The notion that carbon is a dangerous waste product that causes environmental damage is bunk. Plants need carbon dioxide to survive. Plants (and sunlight) are key to our food system on earth. The carbon tax is nothing more than a means of transferring wealth from the poor (and surviving middle class) to the uber-rich.

Yes i agree a carbon tax is silly, and all it will do is this - companies will pay it rather than change fast, and just charge the public more for the same product, a tax like this will have very little effect on global pollution unfortunately, for that the answer is well known to all of us here, there are so many advances in clean energy and zero point energy that burning fossil fuels and running nuclear power plants really should be stopped - we need to become self sustainable and get off the grid as much as possible, but there is little/no profit in that for the greedy childish ones, so it gets suppressed and people who talk about about real solutions get laughed at, the world is upside down inside-out, most people feel this but are too afraid to do anything about it... :)

Yes that's right nickc2496 - a carbon tax for corporations will be passed on to the consumers and eventually when the Carbon Tax becomes a Carbon Emissions Trading Scheme the corporations won't have to buy Carbon Credits because they already passed the costs on to the consumers.
