Food Not Bombs is not about feeding people but about making a political statement. Founder Keith McHenry's goal is to get himself or his cohorts arrested for the publicity. The reason why the police move in is because the Health Department requirement for a permit is never met by them. Permits are needed so that health inspectors can ensure that the public doesn't get sick. McHenry never bothers (but doesn't tell people or the folks that they feed) with permits.

The homeless I worked with have seen them throw away meat that was near expiration. According to those same homeless, they've seen FNB thrown away pizzas too.

So, it's one thing to feed a man out of compassion. It's another to use it as a means of promoting a political agenda and manipulating others toward promoting that agenda. I've no sympathy for Keith McHenry and Food Not Bombs.

It is also the police being used as props for these political statements. These people are taking the resources of the PD that could be better utilized for more serious issues.

Why do they try to goad the police and say things like 'shame on you' and 'coloreds drinking from the white fountain' other than to use them as props? They are not gonna change their mind and walk away, the police are doing their job and the real issue is with the city council members.

Why can't they get a proper permit to serve food like all the soup kitchens do? Also, what happens the first time they leave those eggs out too long and someone gets food poisoning? They are doing it in a public park and the city (taxpayers) would be liable.

Whats next? Permit required for taking a main storage dump in a public toilet with anything over 1lb requiring special decree??

Potential for food poisoning eating there vs out of a garbage bin...hmmm, on a risk mitigation basis, no brainer I would have thought or should those going hungry be required to apply for a permit to do so?

Perhaps a 'Hungry' tatoo on the forehead would be better so that the system can more readily identify how many permits will be required and so they can adjust the number of public servants to meet the perceived need. As usual this will deplete the money that hits the ground where it is needed but what the hell, it's all about feeling secure...right?

You know, that warm fuzzy feeling ya get knowing your gubmint is keeping y'all safe from it's latest scare campaign, as long as we don't look into the problem reaction solution Hegalian dialectic too much we should be able to continue to stay soundly asleep.

Consider the cost of insurance brought on by those who would trade liberty for security. When will those who think that way wake up to the fact that this will only get worse until people learn that it is down to one taking full personal responsibility for ones own actions as opposed to being a chickensh!t and giving your power to be responsible away to others to do it for you?

As for the police just doing their job... yes I do feel sorry for them, considering the fact that to do the job requires an IQ that falls within a certain bandwidth ie not to slow but none to bright and more often than not in conjunction with a pschological deficiency that sees the need to wield power over others, but the only thing I have ever respected about them is their ability to use lethal force with little to no consequence. State sanctioned or otherwise, murder is still murder.

I do note that the perpertrators of the real problem where hidden away in a building on the second floor two blocks away but pray tell how is one to expose the puppet meisters without yanking on the puppet strings??

Perhaps those who disagree with FNBs methodology can provide them with an alternative way for getting the message across... or maybe not...

Never been sued or worked for someone who's been sued, have you? Homeless eats something, gets sick, goes to public hospital and gets free medical care. Then he finds a tort (personal liability) attorney and files suit, claiming the health department (the same folks who provided hospital care) breached its duty of care by not inspecting the food preparation facility and allowing for the distribution of the food. The breach of duty was a negligent act which caused harm to the plaintiff. Because of the cost of litigation, it's cheaper to settle out of court. The settlement money paid to the plaintiff could have been better used than enriching the legal system.

Food Not Bombs is not about feeding people. It's about pushing a political agenda. Feed a man or woman out of compassion, not because there's a political motive. The Nazis used to have the Hitler Jugend deliver food or coal to poor people in the winter. It wasn't out of the goodness of their hearts that they did it. They also gave because of their political agenda.
