Carbon tax to destroy Australia: Monckton

If Australia introduces a carbon tax it will become a "third world banana monarchy", climate change sceptic Christopher Monckton said on the eve of the government's policy announcement.

Speaking at a rally of those against the tax in Sydney's Hyde Park on Saturday, Lord Monckton said Prime Minister Julia Gillard was destroying her own country.

"If this carbon tax goes through then it's bye bye Australia, it's been nice to know you," he told the crowd of hundreds.

"You will become just another third world banana monarchy without even any bananas with the prices they've been charging for those at your supermarkets recently."

Lord Monckton said there was no need for the tax and that the prime minister should listen to her people.

"Julia darling, listen to the voice of Australian people gathered here in Sydney on this beautiful, sunny but rather cold day - we could do with some more global warming," he said.

"First of all there's no need for it, you may have noticed the planet has not been warming at anything like the rate that they predicted, it isn't happening and it isn't going to happen - they got the sums wrong.

"What we're going to do is get the sums right and the way we're going to do it is through the ballot box."

The rowdy crowd continually cheered and there were chants of "ditch the witch" and "no more Greens".

Lord Monckton, who is visiting from the UK, repeatedly used a mock Gillard accent to say that he agreed with the prime minister only when she said "the government I lead will not introduce a carbon tax".

Halfway through his speech the microphone power was lost, and the political group GetUp! was later blamed for pulling the power plug. But GetUp's deputy national director Sam Mclean said the group was not responsible for the outage.

A placard with the words "Get Up" and "Stooge" with an arrow drawn to point at Lord Monckton was accepted by him as a gift and he accused the group of "naked left-wing political interference in the right of somebody who was invited to your country to speak freely".

He said the silencing of opponents in this way had also happened in 1930s Germany.

But Mr Mclean said GetUp! was not at the rally and he denied Lord Monckton's assertion that it had tried to interfere with his right to free speech.

Lord Monckton also took a swipe at some ABC presenters who he claimed were "vilely rude" to him during interviews this week and admitted to having been unknowingly pranked by comedy team The Chaser.

He said believed the broadcaster was a supporter of totalitarianism and should no longer be publicly funded.

Earlier on Saturday, Ms Gillard acknowledged many Australians are worried about the tax.

Addressing 600 delegates at the NSW Labor State Conference in Sydney, Ms Gillard reassured families and pensioners they will be looked after under the tax due to be implemented next year.

The government will on Sunday unveil all the details of its emissions trading scheme, which will start with a fixed price for carbon from July 1, 2012, followed by a floating price from 2015.

It has been reported the starting price will be $23, with fuel for households and small business exempt and the full price only applying to about 500 of the nation's biggest polluters.

PS - I totally Agree with Lord Monckton and I for one will never Stop until I see this SCAM of a Tax Abolished. Period!

PSS - I had to be quick to get this article off the web once I was made aware of it, because both 'The Australian & Herald Sun' have already taken the story down!

At some point a line in the sand needs to be drawn.

Some suggest (rightfully so) that would be when "they" come to take away the guns.

Others would suggest (rightfully so) it's all just a ride (you all know who said that).

Yet others suggest raise your vibration and ascend ... or else the Galactic Federation ships will snatch you up in the nick of time.

Up to all to make their own minds up.

Carbon tax is getting rather in our faces (not that "they" have not already been doing so).

The whole thing is just getting too dominant, and people are already sick of it.

I can see it getting through and everyone complaining about it when it does.

Thats the aussie way lol.

I still see this the same way, all they want is money. Part of me doesn't mind having Australias feathers rustled. Australians are very asleep, a bit of chaos might wake them up, shame it willl cost quite a bit.

Because this is not in our best interest, or the best interest of the environment. You could remove the word 'Carbon' and put anything else in there, as long as the word 'tax' is there, then they are happy.

I think this is a move to delay the inevitable collapse of the economy. Take more money from the people, so the government can keep running.

It makes sence for them.

The black hole in Gillard’s plan

http://blogs.news.com.au/images/uploads/credits_thumb.jpg

Here’s a great, fatal hole in the Gillard Government’s carbon dioxide plan, as conceded by its own documents.

Half the emission cuts are going to come from buying credits overseas.

Let’s overlook the basic fact that a proper overseas market in credits barely exists and is ripe for rorting, as the European Union has already found.

Assume, very conservatively, that those credits will trade at $30 a tonne. That means that the 160 million tonnes of emissions Gillard promises to be cutting by 2020 will see Australia send more than $3 billion a year out of the country to places such as China - or Nigeria.

That’s money the Government will not have to use as compensation for the prices rises.

That’s money gone, for nothing.
