'We were not aware of how the lemonade was made, who made the lemonade, of what the lemonade was made with,' says police chief in Midway, Ga.

FYI:

Three girls trying to raise money to go to a waterpark thought that a lemonade stand would do the trick. But then they met the long arm of the law — their local police chief.
The girls had started up their stand in Midway, Ga., when Police Chief Kelly Morningstar and a deputy drove by.
"They told us to shut it down," 10-year-old Skylar Roberts was quoted as saying by The Coastal Source news website.
"It’s kind of crazy that we couldn’t sell lemonade," added 14-year-old Casity Dixon. "It was fun, but we had to listen to the cops and shut it down."
Morningstar defended his action and received the support of Midway's mayor. "We had told them, 'We understand you guys are young, but still, you’re breaking the law, and we can’t let you do it anymore,'" Morningstar said. "The law is the law, and we have to be consistent with how we enforce the laws."
That city law requires a business and food permits ($50 a day), even if the stand was at the home of one of the girls.
Health issues were also a concern, Morningstar said. "We were not aware of how the lemonade was made, who made the lemonade, of what the lemonade was made with, so we acted accordingly by city ordinance,” he said.
News of the bust caused an outpouring of local support for the trio — and The Coastal Source said it had given the girls tickets to the waterpark.

More than anything else, it shows the mentality of the police.
If they acted any dumber, they would have been candidates for the darwin awards.
In australia, the police have ''discretion'' which means they do not have to prosecute and can't be ordered to do so either.
They are able to overlook things if they need to.

Perhaps they could have appeased the cops by pouring flouride in it???

The policemen lost their chance to drink a cold homemade lemonade and talk to the people that they look after.

Fear is what sells now.

Some facts about how Georgia stands with regard public health issues.

1.) Georgia ranked 43rd in 2009 for overall health performance, dropping from 41st in 2008, according to “America’s Health Rankings,” a joint effort of United Health Foundation, the American Public Health Association and Partnership for Prevention.
2.) Georgia boasts the second largest Obesity rate for children ages 10-17.
3.) Georgia ranks 40th in the U.S. for life expectancy. (Georgia’s life expectancy is lower than countries like Cuba, Costa Rica, Libya, Mexico, Sri Lanka, the West Bank, Morocco and Croatia.)
4.) Georgia is performing well below the national average for behaviors that lead to disease or injury. But Georgia also performs poorly in terms of disease prevention and treatment.

"The law is the law, and we have to be consistent with the way we enforce the laws!" LOL WHAT???

The fact that they think they are going to make a difference in the states overall FAILURE in the health of its citizens by SHUTTING DOWN LEMONAIDE STANDS,,, really tells you alot about their intentions. Why not start with the Cattlemans association?? Little kids selling lemonaide??? These cops aren't ANYBODYS hero. Very sad.

This is a simple example of how we have lost our "humanity". They have taken their authority over people to the extreme. I would guess that if the Mayor's children had opened the lemonade stand, "the law is the law" would not be applied.

Now take this innocuous example to a higher level: Don't file your income tax return on time. The I.R.S. swoops in with all their federal power issuing fines, placing liens on your property, etc., because "the law is the law". Tim Geithner doesn't pay his taxes and he's made Secretary of the Treasury.

we are not equals to them (they think). Hell i dont think they even count us as human beings ... the "elites" we are human resource and slaves so the LAWs are made for us not them.

We were not aware of how the lemonade was made, who made the lemonade, of what the lemonade was made with, so we acted accordingly by city ordinance
So Red Bull and Coca Cola is safer than Lemonade now?!

Already in the lemonade. I'm sure that they used tap water to make it.

i am so glad to see stories like this making the news
so people can see how unreal it is all getting
50 dollars for a lemonade stand
there is no longer any connection between the top few making the rules
and the rest of humanity trying to live by them

dont think it goes that far back. He is trained to act this way and because he cant do this against the real criminals, either cause the system doesnt let him or he is to scared to do his job. He eventually persuades him self to think what he is doing is good and lawful.

Its self imposed brainwashing to hide the fact that he is scared or the fact that he works for criminals and he doesnt have the courage to either quit or oppose them. So in order to feel good about himself he twists reality around him and imposes laws on the helpless and easy to attack. If you add to this the police training you get this and the other "bad" situations with cops. Ofc there are those that really like being thugs and criminals.
