Hi All,

After doing research on how to help a few of my patients with weight issues, diabetes, fatigue issues, etc. I became very interested in juicing.

I watched Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead on Netflix which really got me interested (and made me cry!) then, Food Matters and finally Simply Raw (on You Tube but will most likely be removed due to copyright).

I don't have any of the above issues myself (well, maybe the fatigue) but I don't like to advise people to do something I haven't tried first.

After researching as well as I could the best juicer for me, I ordered the Omega VRT HD 350 a few days ago and anxiously await its arrival. It wasn't inexpensive but i am not opposed to spending $ on high quality items that enhance my health. And it comes with a 10 year warranty!

I am starting to get very excited about having some organic, flavorful and fresh juice (and also the great compost the pulp will make!) I plan on fasting with juice (Juice Feast) for a few days only but I have seen the stories of people who have gone 3 months or more! I think I would mix some whey protein in with the juice as I don't know that it could carry me through the day without protein.

I'd like to know if any of you have tried juicing or even a juice fast and what your experiences were. :bounce:

I can't afford to lose any weight. At 6'4" and 185 lb I'm skinny enough already. Can't afford to fast and lose any.

Juices, freshly made, are a good addition to our diet anyway. I use a Vitamix, which breaks down the cell wall and fiber. No discarded pulp. You bought a really good juicer by the way.

I am almost ready to start my juicing venture again, last time I lost 1.2 stone in a month, felt fitter then ever but had serious problems sleeping as I had so much energy. The job got in the way of that as I only had around 6 hours time to sleep per day and lack of sleep was making life hard , so I stopped juicing.

I am about to change jobs and will go back to juicing.

Oh my, I guess you had better not lose any weight!

Interestingly, the Omega HD has 2 inserts, so if I want some pulp in my juice I can use the one with the larger holes. That is probably what I will do as I like a little pulp.

Boy, that's not greats news, Ammit, cause I want more energy during day but really need to wind down fast so as to sleep a good 7 hours if I am lucky during week. But I AM glad to hear that you had the energy from the juice AND lost that weight! I don't need to lose much myself but wouldn't complain about 5 or 10 lbs going bye bye.

Don Tolman is the man to look into, his resume speaks for itself, long been a promoter of juice fasting he once did a 40 day sunlight and water fast then drank a quart of grapefruit or watermelon juice and ran a 26 mile marathon...proving how fasting is exactly what the greeks when they came up with the word meant it did Fastius = 'to make stronger'.

anyway I recieved a newsletter from Don the other day that was all about diabetes, I'll repost it here for you.

Diabetes - The Medical Mystery

Stop eating junk foods, processed sugars, soda pop and sports drinks.

If you really want to cure Diabetes, only eat whole foods - 80 per cent raw and 20 per cent heated until it remisses. Exercise and be patient and Diabetes will resolve in anywhere from 30 days to 6 months.

Only two types of sugars exist and they are the multibillion dollar, medical mystery of Diabetes.

Simple sugars, called fast sugars are all processed, refined or artificial, synthetic sugars. Simple sugars cause diabetes. Their molecular size is so small that they cross the blood brain barrier quickly, hence their name, “fast” sugars. This causes the brain to tell the pancreas to release insulin. Insulin in the blood stream sends messages to the body, which tell it that it is in “extreme danger” and to “lie down”; Insulin zaps your energy so you’ll have to rest or take a break. It also tells your body to “put on layers of fat to protect yourself”, and the body responds to the message.

Complex sugars are “slow” sugars. They are unrefined and occur in nature as fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, and contrary to the public option, even sweet potatoes and honey. They cross the blood-brain barrier slowly, sending a message through the blood to the body that all is safe and well. This causes the pancreas to release glucagons, which energise you, making you want to walk, run and play. Glucagons even cause you to burn stored fat.

That’s it. That’s the big mystery. Diabetes testing, also known as testing your blood sugar, is nuts! It’s nothing more than an open invitation to your health, your money and your life over to a lifetime of ritual invasion.

Just as a bad diet can aid in the cause of diabetes, a good one can help control or even prevent it. A good diet consists mainly of higher fiber, high-complex carbohydrate foods such as taro, poi, greens and fruits. Carbohydrates, which are found in nearly all foods except animals, fish, pigs, cows and poultry – are the body’s main source of energy.

There are two types of carbohydrates, starches and simple carbohydrates. Starches include foods like rice, beans, potatoes and pasta. Simple carbohydrates, called sugars include the natural sugars found in milk, fruits and vegetables, as well as honey. The body turns both complex (slow) and simple (fast) carbohydrates into glucose, which is either immediately converted into energy or stores until needed. Contrary to former belief, most people with diabetes should eat a diet that’s higher in carbohydrates, particularly the complex kind.

Fruit is it. Eat up!

A high fiber diet has been shown to relieve everything from constipation to heart disease. It also plays a powerful role in controlling blood sugar.

Reversing Diabetes
When you go to the doctor, diabetes becomes a death sentence. You get medications to “control” the problem. You take insulin injections for the rest of your lie and make sure your blood sugar testing kit is always within reach. But eventually, you know it’s going to kill you.

Nutritional whole food practitioners, on the other hand, have been reversing diabetes for decades. Their “miracle cures” result from a simple fact, given the right whole-food nutrients, the body is fully capable of healing itself.

Nutritional whole food practitioner, Farmacist, make sure that the body gets nutrients it needs, while making sure to avoid the metabolic poisons that are so prevalent in the American food supply. The result, predictably, is yet another “miracle” that modern medicine can’t explain. It’s another sad reflection on a long list of medical ignorance. At the very least, one would expect modern medicine to understand how such cures work when they repeatedly occur.

To reverse the condition, it is necessary to eliminate the bad fats and supply good fats.

When the diet is optimal, it still takes about two years for the complete healing cycle. That’s how long it takes for the soft tissues of the body to be replaced.

Where do you find good fats?

Take a tablespoon of unrefined oils from the health food store every morning in a glass of water.
Avocado, olives, raw seeds and raw nuts.
Fasting
To speed up the healing process, you may also want to consider fasting. A lot of housecleaning goes on during a fast and many triglycerides (fatty acids) are eliminated. Fasting can speed up the process of eliminating bad fats that have already accumulated.

Raw Foods
Consistent consumption of raw vegetables and fruits has a surprisingly beneficial and speedy effect on diabetes, provided the person has not taken insulin or at most, only small quantities of it for a year or two. Whole foods help when the person has taken large doses of insulin for several years, but the process does take longer.

Several raw vegetable contain insulin, especially Jerusalem artichokes. In their raw state, most vegetables contain the precursor of insulin.

Stop eating crap. Get a life off the couch. Lose the doughnuts, sodas, candy and synthetic chemical sweeteners, starting eating fresh whole foods and drink water, go for a walk and kiss diabetes goodbye!

I have been fruitarian, Fruit has simple sugars in it - glucous and fructose - they are absorbed fast (like fast food!!). My blood sugar levels are find and I don't have diabetes. I had huge amounts of energy and could not get to sleep at night because of it. So I guess I don't understand the big deal about simple sugars leading to diabetes. I mainly was eating watermelon and freshly squeezed orange juice - its practically all sugar and nothing else? Being fruitarian also cured me of migraine headaches. I guess everyone is different - so I recommend trying everything for oneself - direct experience is the way to go. I will say this - simple sugars and fat, lead to diabetes. The real cause in my research to diabetes is FAT. As a fruitarian I never ate fat - fat plus sugar = diabetes!!!! Fat sits on receptors in blood vessels which are used by insulin to ferry the sugars out of your blood stream - hence becuase the fat is using those receptors the sugar is incapable of being taken out of the blood stream to the cells that require glucose - that's right cells use simple sugars like glucose - its their main source of energy along with oxygen (breath fresh air). Therefore we get high blood sugar and bingo diabetes - it's not rocket science. Don't be down on the simple sugars in fruit - be down on fat. Where in nature does huge quantities of fat grow for us to eat - avocadoes and nuts - both of which give me allergies. My instinct is avoid fat (avoid avocadoes and nuts, in my opinion), the amount of fat we are designed to eat is in the fruit and vegetables in tiny amounts - that's the way it is supposed to be - we only need tiny amounts of fat. Fat is the boobey man - test it for yourself - don't believe me!

Thanks for bringing up Don Tolman Jayke.

This guy is a human encyclopedia on healthy living. if any of my friends come telling me they have the flu or are sick or something is wrong with them, I open up the FDR (Farmicist Desk Reference - Tolman's remedy book) and let them know how they can fix it, and get back to better health.

Here are some notes that I have taken from information Don has provided (sorry about the length) hope it is helpful...

The 3 (grassroots) Revolutions
Self Care - Being responsible for your own wellbeing as disease comes from the outside, in. Be mindful and aware of what you are putting into your body.

Self Education – Educate yourself about what you’re putting into your body. Look at what benefits the different pulses have and how they can heal you. Work from what you put in, to how you interact with the outside world. When information is received work out whether it is 1) Logical, 2) Reasonable, and 3) Practical. Also assess whether this is information you can use.

Self Government – Govern yourself by your own truest knowledge.

Scholastic Skills
Observe – observing how things work or change is the first step to gaining knowledge
Ponder – ponder whether or not your observation was correct, and consider your own truth in what you have observed.
Reflect - Reflect upon what your knowledge has bought you so far, and be grateful for where you are and what you have in your life.
Silence – Incubate or nurture these beliefs and understandings about your truth. Once you have downloaded all this information you will experience a “moment of clarity” where your belief and understanding will transform into Truest truth.

The 3 Infinites

To Know – Once you know how to do something, through your own scholastic skill, then you are able to do what this knowledge teaches you.

To Do – Through your scholastic skills, once you know your truth, you can then put this into action, and start to do. Changing your perceptions on how things work, and expanding your understanding and knowledge.

To Be – Once you are doing, using your knowledge, then you become what you do, embodying all the knowledge expanding you even further to greater understanding and knowledge.

9/10 doctor’s calls are made by people who have disorders that are bought on by their own lack of self care, lifestyle decisions and their own indiscretions.
The other 1/10 person that calls the doctor, is because of side effects of prescribed medications they have been given for a previous “ailment”

The bones store salt for when you don’t need or have use for it. Salt then can be converted to Calcium which in turn can be broken down to magnesium and finally iron, making salt one of the most important minerals to have in abundance.

Human Body
The human body is made up of trillions of “tubes”. The ways in which the tubes (or cells) can be affected are 1) blockage, 2) being burnt, 3) being cut, 4) being burst.

Sun screen is not good for the skin. It blocks the pores, and holds in toxins and any plaque blockages that are trying to escape through the pores. Sun heals skin conditions.

Disease
Disease is caused simply by lifestyle choices, and lack of self care so attempting to fight disease with modern medical procedures or drugs will only cause more disease, as you are placing foreign bodies, toxins and poisons into your body that should not be in there.

7 Principles of Health

1) Air - Clean (moving) air contains electrical particles when air is moving around. When air becomes stagnant it contains less oxygen and is unhealthy for us. Leave windows open at night when you go to bed, even in winter to keep air moving through your house.
2) Water – if it is wet drink it! Don’t let water sit for more than 30 minutes. If it has been sitting, transfer it from one cup/container to another to stimulate, or shake the container to get the water moving again. As with air stagnant water is not as healthy as you need it to be. You should drink your brain weight each day to keep your brain hydrated, and at least 2 litres each day to keep your body hydrated.
3) Sunshine – Direct sunlight goes directly into your bloodstream, healing your skin. Using sunscreen blocks toxins from escaping your body.
4) Whole foods – Try to get the full spectrum of the rainbow through your foods. Food that grows underground, on the ground, and in trees.
5) Non Toxic Relationships – Increase the non toxic relationships that you have in your life. Also pay attention to your body. Signs or signals that your body is giving you is in direct relation to the offence happening inside your body, alerting you to action that you need to take.
6) Passion – make sure you keep your spirits up and enjoy life. When you experience joy and share it with the world through your gratitude, you will live a longer healthier more fulfilling life.
7) Walking – Walking at least 30-45 mins per day, 5 days a week can increase your life span by 18 years. Make sure you keep active and move your body.

Good luck on the juicing Nearing, i have a juicer and still do, its decent. Soon im going with a high speed blender to make fruit veggie smoothies..no waste of pulp etc. like the juicers do.... The great thing about the high speed blender (smoothie makers) is that nothing is lost, even the seeds of an apple get grinded in with the smoothie as the seeds are known to be very healthy to drink as well and are excellent i hear as an antioxidant in supressing cancer growth and are simply great for the body. Hope your juicing went well.

When I learned about juicing a few years ago I bought the best juicer I could afford at the time but the cleaning of the thing it was a real nightmare so I stopped using it.
Just imagine cutting and preparing the fruit and vegetables (yes, some work is need it) and juice everything, you get one or 2 glasses of juice and spend 20 minutes washing the thing (I don't have a dishwasher). After that I owned 2 more juicer that unfortunately ended up in the trash can too.

One day I found a blender that has a program for shakes and smoothies and I decided to try it for juicing, it's been the best thing so far as blending the fruit and vegetables leave all the fiber in the juice and you just don't feel it because the machine really makes everything very smooth whereas juicers remove the fiber and trust me, you need it!

That's my 2 cents for people interested in juicing that don't want to spend a lot of money in a juicer.

Please check this videos as you'll find good information in this channel

Hmm .. I've been needing a bit more energy but I'm not much of an eater. Juicing sounds like a great idea ... BTW by my experiences, weight and bodyfat has less to do with the diet than one would think. Regulation of certain chemicals and hormones at certain times - which are heavily influenced by your conscious and subconscious - have a very heavy influence on how your body utilizes the chemical structures of foods.

Regulation of certain chemicals and hormones at certain times - which are heavily influenced by your conscious and subconscious - have a very heavy influence on how your body utilizes the chemical structures of foods.

Perhaps an example:
"Healthy foods are good for me so they won't make me fat" -and they don't
"Cookies are so bad for me I eat two and it goes straight to my ass" -and it does
"I can eat whatever I want and I don't get fat" says the skinny person eating a whole cheescake for breakfast -and he/she doesn't

I wonder if the attitude toward food has anything to do with it .... ?? ;)

Here's a fun Idea that I do. After juicing take the leftover pulp and spread it loosely in a dehydrator. The one I use has a bottom insert that can be used for making fruit leathers so I don't worry if some of the pulp sifts downward through the screen trays because I can just shake it off the bottom and still use it..... Anyway, you can store the dried vege or fruit pulp in jars of plastic bags and use it as a flour replacement in pancakes and breads. If it's lumpy consider whirling it in your blender for a moment. You can also add it to soups and... on and on.. well you get the idea. Having a concentrated dried flour made from vegetable pulp is a very handy thing. Thank you for this thread by the way.

As cloud 9 says check out Dan Mcdonald theliferegenerator . He has over 600 videos and 15 years experience of living off fresh fruit, leafy green veg, soaked nuts and seeds.
Dan is very down to earth ad wears his heart on his sleeve on camera.
At present he is documenting a bike ride he is doing across America on fruit and veg.
He has been on several months juice feasting as well.

He is a true inspiration for me.

I used my Omega VRT 350HD for first time last night and WOW! I love it!

It actually grinds/masticates/chews the fruit/veggie. I put the whole fruit/veggie in, I only cut to a size where the piece can fit in the hole so an apple gets cut into 4, celery is whole, cukes in half lengthwise, etc. There are 2 strainers with a large size hole for more pulp coming through (is like a puree) and a smaller for juice (still get some pulp but much less). I used wheatgrass as well and it worked like a dream. Also, lemons with the rind!

So the stalks, and seeds, leaves, rinds, etc are being juiced as well. I know I am getting a TON of nutrients and there is no oxidation as would be from a high speed juicer or blender. No air is introduced into the juice, so in airtight jars (I bought clamp down mason jars), the juice will stay in frig for 3 days and not lose it's nutrition! The pulp comes out very, very dry and I have used it for the compost pile so far but I think I will get a dehydrator and make crackers!

I can make almond milk as well and I have bought some to see how that goes. It's 'self-cleaning' meaning all you do is run clear cold water in it after juicing and it cleans most of the gunk out, then it's easy to take apart and rinse off the rest. I found it to be pretty easy cleaning.
