"Everyone has a price"...........well now we know that is actually true

It appears the organic craze is finally over in America, and the frankenfood revolution has won the fight. In a decision that appears to be a concession to the all powerful food industry, grocers such as Whole Foods, Organic Valley, and Stoneyfield Farm are about to allow Genetically Engineered (GE) Foods on their shelves.

In an article yesterday from the Organic Consumers Association, the battle between organic and genetically modified that lasted over a decade has finally ended with Monsanto coming out victorious.

After 12 years of battling to stop Monsanto's genetically-engineered (GE) crops from contaminating the nation's organic farmland, the biggest retailers of "natural" and "organic" foods in the U.S., including Whole Foods Market (WFM), Organic Valley and Stonyfield Farm, have agreed to stop opposing mass commercialization of GE crops, like Monsanto's controversial Roundup Ready alfalfa. In exchange for dropping their opposition, WFM has asking for "compensation" to be paid to organic farmers for "any losses related to the contamination of his crop." Under current laws, Genetically-Modified Organisms (GMOs) are not subject to any pre-market safety testing or labeling. WFM is abandoning its fight with biotech companies in part because two thirds of the products they sell are not certified organic anyway, but are really conventional, chemical-intensive and foods that may contain GMOs and that they market as "natural" despite this. Most consumers don't know the difference between "natural" and "certified organic" products. "Natural" products can come from crops and animals fed nutrients containing GMOs. "Certified Organic" products are GMO-free. WFM and their main distributor, United Natural Foods, maximize profits by selling products labeled "natural" at premium organic prices.

Still have New Seasons maybe? :( I do buy a certain type of cheese at Whole Foods. Robusto gouda cheese. mmmm So good.

I mostly like New Seasons the best as my grocer. But have to do with WinCo in my area... It really annoys me they don't have to label GM foods. It's like I'm playing russia roulette buying food but in a dumbed down manner. I try to not care if I eat it so my belief doesn't affect my physiology. But I don't like eating foods that may or may not be GM.

Nice to know the difference between 'natural' and 'certified organic'. How can they put 'natural' on a GM product. wtf is less natural than man tinkering with genetics. lol. The world is upside down :p

I wish I lived in an area with a Whole Foods still. I wonder what the hippies in Portland OR are doing about this. lol. Or Eugene(if WFM went there).

Hey man, it was always on their shelves.
But it also always wasn't.

A lot of things are still being tested, and if you are smart you can still buy organic... just don't expect it in your 'natural burrito' from the frozen section.

Unfortunately, the burden of change relies on the consumers, and as we all know, consumers don't really know **** about **** and WFM is not going to teach them whats up because nobody there making decisions (and salaries upwards of $75k a year) are going to inform them because they rely on stupid feeders to pay their bills.

And omni if you're going to buy cheese at whole foods, go for the raw stuff man! Pasteurization is poison!
