hey everyone just wondering if anyone would know why someone would have a fast resting heart rate. my girlfriend's been to doctors and they ran all kinds of tests and really couldn't find anything wrong with her. In the end they just attributed it to saying some people just have a fast heart. I honestly am a bit worried because her resting rate is around 120bpm. Any kind of input would be appreciated :noidea:

Well, I have the opposite. My unfit heartrate is about 60, and when Im sort of fit, it's 48. And Im 61, quite short and a bit overweight. Certainly not the athletic type, although I am active. When I've been in hospital they always retake my pulse cos they think that they have made a mistake. I do come from a heritage of runners though. Maybe I inherited my heartrate genectically. Thats possibly a good starting point for the reason your girlfriends rate is so high!

According to Mayo Clinic website normal is 60 to 100 bpm resting. Here is the Mayo Clinic wepage (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tachycardia/DS00929) on tachycardia.
I would find it a little worrying too and would want a second opinion. Best of luck!

sidh25,
a fast or hard-thumping beat is indicative sometimes of an energy starved heart. i'd suggest you look into the work of Dr. Stephen Sinatra. i had a similar issue and took his suggested nutrients: d ribose, coenzyme q10, l carnitine and magnesium. this combination of supplements was very, very effective-a literal God-send. i cannot over-estimate the importance of this regimen. i feel strongly that it would help your girlfriend.

I would consult someone who is knowledgable in traditional chinese medicine.
Where are you at?

Is she allergic to something in her environment? Once I was testing for allergies. I woke up with a 60 heart rate, ate some alfalfa sprouts, and shot up to 120. It could be food, carpets, dust, mold, a cat, a dog ...

Hey Sid yeah i've been thinking of getting in touch with some good alternative/spiritual doctor but haven't really looked much there to find someone reliable. Living in sydney at the moment. So probably will suggest that to my gf. thanks.

Yeah I think she was in the hospital for 2-3 days cause it was pretty serious according to them and hence ran all kinds of tests including allergy. Something should've come up then if it was the case.

Alternative therapy might be of some good,I am a 5 element acupuncturist, have treated similar in the past,However whilst the increased heart rate is oftern the major concern from the chinese point of view there will be an underlying course. It is impossible to diagnosis on the web. From the Western point of view raised heart rate is a natural response to a number of situations the key is to find out if it is because the body wants to send some hormone antibody etc round the body asap or weather there is a problem in the system that causes/controls the heart rate. PM me if you want to discuss etc.

G'day sidh25,
I am sorry to hear that your girlfriend has tachycardia. Doubtless, this is very frustrating for both of you. She should have received either a diagnosis, or a referal prior to discharge.
If I can be of any assistance, and I would be more than happy to help, it is best to PM me, as there are simply too many questions to ask here.
I must inform you that I am not a health professional. What I understand of cardiology, is thanks to having educated myself. Therefore I cannot offer any diagnoses or course of treatment. At best, I may be able to narrow down the possible causes for you, and hopefully put your minds a little more at ease.
Perhaps I shall hear from you.

She may be a shallow breather. Her heart may be pumping extra to get oxygen into the body. 120 seems high indeed.
