FYI:

A US lawmaker, who was protesting the deportation of illegal immigrants, has been arrested in front of the White House.

Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez was arrested on Tuesday along with about a dozen other protesters after refusing to evacuate the area, Reuters reported.

The Illinois representative has long worked on immigration issues, and has been in a wave of immigration protests in recent years.

He has a prominent role in pushing the DREAM Act (acronym for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) in Congress, a US legislative proposal which provides conditional permanent residency to certain illegal foreign students who graduate from US high schools.

"The president says Republicans are blocking immigration reform and he's right, but it doesn't get him off the hook. Everyone knows he has the power to stop deporting DREAMers and others with deep roots in the US and we think he should use it," Gutierrez said in a statement.

Some groups say more people have been deported under US President Barack Obama's tenure than any other US president.

How did Democratic Congressman Luis Gutierrez's family get here? Did they go through the laborious, wait-your-turn process that most of our ancestors did? Or did he get his citizenship because some illegals gave birth to him here?

The Dream Act has one purpose only. It is now, and has always been, about one thing: VOTES. This is not about "compassionate" politicians v. "heartless" politicians. All politicians know that if the Dream Act were to be enacted the next step is to give these folks voting rights. This core group of people will bring in a tremendous amount of votes for the Democratic Party. Personally, I have no love for either political party. I am not making a political statement here, just a fact. There are a handful of politicians who truly want this Act to become law but on a grand scale, it comes down to votes, which translates to power. Our elected representatives could care less about us, immigrant rights, etc. Any political stance that they take is with their re-election in mind. These are ego-driven, power hungry people that love themselves so much, that they do not have enough compassion left to give to anyone else.
