Looks like a 6.0 earthquake south of california. The Baja california area.

Dutchsinse posted. Pretty short then what he normally does but seems things are slowly coming to the west coast.

Living in the UK where we have almost no earthquakes a 6 sounds strong is it fair to say that even a 5 is quite serious? I see that California had a 5.2 last night.

dont know much about earthquakes myself. A 6.0 will shake things and probably cause minor damage but wont bring down a building unless it's really old then maybe. Believe the depth plays into it also, meaning the deeper into the earth it is, less likely to be felt and less damaging. A 9.0(max on scale) will do large to massive damage. Anything larger then a 9.0 and you might as well kiss most buildings good-bye.
As I said tho, dont know much about earthquakes and the depth thing, etc etc. Maybe someone will alot better understanding then me would like to comment and explain things for you.
