On the streets it is referred to as Crystal, Ice, and Crank. Methamphetamines are viciously addictive and provide the hyperactivity effects of Cocaine along with the delusional effects of LSD. As opposed to getting a short `high’ from other drugs, this one will keep users pumped up from 6 to 12 hours and create feelings of paranoia, invulnerability, increased strength, euphoria, and may cause some to react in a violent fashion. As for health concerns, it rots the teeth, suppresses the appetite, induces insomnia, and causes brain damage among other things. Its ease of use makes it even more insidious as it can be swallowed, snorted, injected, or smoked and it is cheap to buy or can be easily manufactured by almost anyone.

Methamphetamine is one of the hardest drugs to quit. Its abuse is ravaging rural communities and cities alike. NGC correspondent Lisa Ling goes inside this global epidemic to find out what makes meth so addictive and destructive

Amphetamines can be found in virtually every community from the smallest towns to the largest cities and it radiates through all walks of life from the lowest to highest social classes. It is estimated that there are 26 million worldwide users of this drug. When law enforcement in the United States began to make a concerted effort to eliminate methamphetamine labs, supply then began to come from Mexico using routes already established by Cocaine Cartels.

The World’s Most Dangerous Drug is only 50 minutes long but this is more than enough time to fully realize the shocking and devastating effects of methamphetamines. There are some graphic photos and a few disturbing video clips but they are necessary elements in complimenting and reinforcing the main message of this program. National Geographic has made a decent documentary here, and whether viewers want to watch this for educational purposes or just out of curiosity perhaps, I recommend it to everyone.

This is a bit different form my usual posts

Hi The One

I agree that cranky ice crystals may be the one of the worlds most "dangerous" drugs however, I think this one has more people hooked:

Hmmm... compared to the legalised drugs nicotine and alcohol which almost all governments allow to be sold so they can be taxed... M'kay.

In terms of addictive substances why is processed sugar never discussed ??

Like any drug, master the art of not paying for it and then see how long your addiction lasts...

The most dangerous drug through history has been power.

I agree. Meth is one of the worst.

On the otherhand....LSD does not cause delusions. whereas something like Datura.....does cause delusions. A Delusion is a hallucination in which you don't know the difference whether it is real or not. When on LSD or hallucinogens as such you can tell you are high on the hallucinogen. Whereas if you ingest Datura, which I highly do not recommend because it will kill you unless prepared by a shaman, and even then.....it might kill you..... you can't tell whether you are in reality or hallucinating it. So here I am smoking a cigarette going on a walk with a friend I havent seen in highschool......when in fact, you are walking in a field phantom smoking a cigarette mumbling gibberish to yourself. Same with meth just not as intense as it would be with Datura. Meth does these things though to a certain extent in terms of delusional paranoid thinking. Drugs suck.

Sorry, I agree with meth and other drugs being a bane on some people's existence.....but there is a huge difference between a delusion and a hallucination or vision.

That's just awful.. The sad thing is that we're right now only seeing the beginning of the problem.
