Hi there my fellow Avalonians, I don't do this often, in fact haven't done it yet, but I have a very special request.

I go to visit my wife's 99 year old gramma at her Assisted Living Facility most evenings, and there is one resident there that just tears my heart out every time I see him. His name is Mark, he's a VERY young looking 60 years old, used to be a professional golfer, and has ALS. (Lou Gherig's Disease) It set upon him 20 years ago, cost him his marriage, his family, his career, and now virtually ALL mobility. Thank god for his special scooter he can operate by barely moving the tip of one finger, otherwise he would have been totally bedridden some time back.

It's hard to imagine the solitary nightmare he lives, yet he seems to be one of those people with an unbreakable spirit. After several months of fruitless effort, just recently I finally was able to begin to interpret the noises he makes as words. You know what it was I finally understood he was trying to tell me one day? "How are you doing"? Wow.

Anyway, if you all could think to send Mark some positive healing energy from time to time, that would be really great.

Thank You and Cheers,
Fred

Damn, what a way to spend the last part of your life.
Kudos to you for taking the time to figure out what is going on.
I try to think how I would feel if I were in that position.
I think it would suck and I would appreciate anything that people would do to help me.
Come on avalonuggets, it is that time again.
We need as many as possible to help Mark.

Celiacs Disease has been linked ALS it seems. Might be worth trying a gluten free diet for a while. Tests for gluten sensitivity can give false negatives as well.

Yes Sierra, hard to imagine. Not to knock the old folks there, I love them all, know them by name, know parts of their stories, try to spend a minute or two when I see each of them, give a hug, and so on, so don't get me wrong here. But, to not only be with it mentally and not be able to communicate, but probably 2/3 of the dear old folks there are just out to pasture. Dare I say I haven't overheard too many(none) interesting conversations there.

I think he might even get into a place like Avalon, if it could be arranged to get him outfitted with some kind of high tech computer apparatus. I just found out he could still manage to work a computer until a couple of years ago, but then that left him too.

Thanks very much you guys!!!

Cheers,
Fred

Oh, almost forgot. He emphatically nodded his head when I asked if he believes in miracles.

Hello Mark I'm sending you good vibrations, a long lasting hug that comes from the heart, the same way I do with trees.

I'm a tree hugger(but don't tell all the trees, cause I can't hug them all at the same time.....or maybe I could if I try to!!??

Thank you Fred, you are a good man, another hug for you too!:grouphug:

Hi Fred,

How wonderful that you see Mark!!! and not his disability. Positive energy is on the menu for both of you and yes who knows maybe a computer companion to help him access the Avalon Forum. What great time consuming, learning, companionship and information awaits him :) Prayers for all good things to greet Mark as what the heck they have already started with YOU!! :)

Fred-
I will say a special prayer for Mark, and for you, for being so kind to him. I believe that people who care about those less fortunate have great rewards waiting for them in heaven. As my people would say, you have done a "Mitzvah"- a good deed.

Fred S, how kind and wonderful you are to share Mark's story with us. Please tell him for me ~ to just hang on a little bit longer. In a matter of a few months at most, there will be a cure for ALS and all the other diseases put upon us by the Powers that Were. Most if not all of them will go away as new cures have been found and will be released before the end of 2011.

Tell Mark that he is loved and cherished and that we are all sending loving hugs and blessings upon him. Special Angels surround him, too, who will see him through this last little bit before he is fully healed.

Tell him to have faith and open his heart to not only miracles but full healing and light to come upon him now and in the days ahead. It won't be long now ~ before a whole new Earth is born and he will regain all he thought was lost including his mobility and a new family, who loves and cherishes him unconditionally.

Big hugs to both of you and please know how precious it is ~ to be alive today to see and to witness all the miracles happen that we will be witnessing soon!
Much love! xoxoxoxox

Fred thank you so much for being with Mark, and bless your heart for visiting that facility often.

Older people are more likely to leave before us, and after the life they spent, it's good to to have one good soul near them at least.

As for Mark, God bless his heart for reminding what the phrase "his soul shines through" means!

Sounds like these lyrics were written for Mark, sending prayers and healing his way.

Give me a word
Give me a sign
Show me where to look
Tell me what will I find
Lay me on the ground
Fly me in the sky
Show me where to look
Tell me what will I find
Whoa, never let your light shine down

Love is in the water
Love is in the air
Show me where to look
Tell me will love be there
Teach me how to speak
Teach me how to share
Teach me where to go
Tell me will love be there
Whoa, never let your light shine down

I'm gonna let it shine
I'm gonna let it shine
Heaven send a light, let it shine on me
Hey Yeah
Heaven send a light, let it shine on me
It's gonna shine on
Shine on Me
Its gonna shine on
Well come on and shine

In general terms, I offer that which enables the innermost desires of Mark to work out with the least amount of suffering.

That said, if Mark were to consent to more "direct action" I would be up for it, but until consent/permission is granted one is somewhat hamstrung.

Dear Mark,
My wife and I cared for someone for two years with your condition, we know what you are going through and your family.
You are reliant for everything on those around you. Your mind is clear but the body will not do as it is asked.
Like everyone else on this site we send you all our love, may your clear mind be at peace.

Dear Fred,
If you would like any information about communication devices, I can help. It is quite simple to put a little laser light onto a pair of glasses, and have an alphabet sheet in front of him, so he can spell out his needs with the precise beam of light. This is if he is nearly totally paralysed. How is his breathing?

All the best
Tony

Hi Tony, many thanks for the kind offer. I've always thought how awesome it would be if he could communicate in some way through technology, but that it would be WAY too expensive...I imagine it would be an explosion of being for him just to be able to express himself. It certainly would be for me.

Yes, he's probably 99% paralyzed now, he can nod and shake his head a wee bit, and move the tip of one finger to operate his scooter. He's VERY expressive with his eyes, there is most certainly an intelligent and vibrant soul trapped in there. His breathing seems o.k., but I guess that's the next step huh? That's how you die from it.

That would be great if you could pm me with your idea of the laser and glasses Tony, it sounds very clever. Maybe the experience you and your wife went through will be of service to another soul in need. Bear in mind though I'm not very technically savvy, to say the least.

Cheers,
Fred

Oh, almost forgot. I was quite surprised to find out who your wife is this morning when she detailed the experience you two had with this. Small world.

To everybody who has been so warm and kind here, thank you VERY much!!! I can feel it, and I'm sure Mark can too. I'm truly humbled by your love and generosity towards Mark.

Anchor, I know what you mean with the permission thing, I thought of that too, just that the inspiration to start this thread came right after the last time I saw him. I'm torn on the permission thing, only because of the thought that a sovereign soul can always refuse. That being said, I will make a point of explaining my little exploit here to him next chance, and see what he thinks.:yes4:

Cheers,
Fred

Fred, your compassionate story moved me deeply. I have sat in meditation and sent out the most positive vibes I can to Mark and will continue to do so. There is an uplifting autobiography called 'A Child of Eternity' about a severely autistic child, Adriana Rocha, who was able to express herself through 'Facilitated Communication' - using a helper and computer although I suspect Mark is beyond this. I hope Pie'n'eal's suggestion may be of some benefit. Thank you for posting - at the very least it reminds me to be grateful for my health.

Hi there. Me, the wifey, and our three 75 pound goofey muts are on our way out the door to spend a long week-end up at the springs for a little soul renourishment, know what I meam? Totally offline, unplugged, and hopefully nothing more to worry about than will we get to play with a manatee, or whats for dinner.

When we stop by to visit gramma on the way home Sunday afternoon, I'll see if Mark is up and at it. If he is, I'll let him know basically what's been going on here, and ask him if he has any problem with people who may want to send healing energies, but understandibly wish to have permission first.

I guess that will be the moment when I find out if he thinks I'm a nutter, huh?lol. Seriously though, I don't see that as a concern. It would seem to me anyone who is still cheerful and strong spirited after 20 years of what he's gone through, and probably logged more quality meditation time than all of us combined, would not be taken aback. I'll let you know.

Have a great week-end everybody, and Cheers,
Fred

I'm interested to see if Mark's fate is to experience what he is experiencing or to allow us to experience ourselves through his healing. I have hope it's the latter as Mark is one of the strongest names/vibrations and that of a Warrior or Hero.

Are there any healer types in his area that Avalon/Camelot know that can go give some pro bono in person healing? Assuming he wants it.

Hi there everybody, at the risk of being repetitive, just want to say how honored I am to be part of a group of kind souls as yourselves. I am blown away by your response to this. Thank you so much!!!

It was a swing and a miss this evening on the way home to both tell Mark of my activities here concerning him, and the request from members for his permission to send their healing energies. He was out with a wonderful soul that I was just made aware of last week. Her name is Marley, she is about his age, and apparently she comes by the place once or twice a week to take him out. Out as in out on the town. That was SO cool to find out. Last week they went to a street festival in a quaint little town around here on Tampa Bay called Safety Harbor.

They met around two years ago online, shortly before Mark could no longer interface with a computer. Apparently they bought a custom van to fit the situation, and she is the tour guide. Super nice lady, if there ever was a lightworker she is surely one.

So anyway, there were issues with gramma having fallen over the weekend, but I had time to write a note and left on his bed basically explaining things here, including the request for his permission. Tomorrow is busy, so the next day I'll be there won't be til Tuesday evening to see what he says.

Thank You and Cheers,
Fred

Dear Fred, I used to visit the old persons home near where I lived in the U.K. I met some fantastic characters there and learn't a lot as a young man and also heard some great stories!

I believe it is shamefull on the whole how we treat our Elderly these days, this treatment varies from place to place, country to country.

I believe the Elderly teach us younger crowd ( speaking for myself) some very important lessons and that we in the future should attempt to revive the respect for these knowledgeable folk.

You are a good Man Fred!

Hi Mark... It is very humbling to hear of others physical and mental misfortunes.
It makes the pettyness and ego deflate somewhat when we hear of these people.
My mother has a mental illness and I visit her in the institution she was placed.
It is a most humbling place.... I see the misfortunes of all the other souls, who for
there own reasons have placed themselves in this life in these states.
I spend more time than most having a laugh and listening to many of the people I
come into contact with. And my heart grows....
From the love that I know and the strength that my ancestors provide me.....
I send you my brother the healing energy of the NGAI TAHU to utilise in the vicinity
of souls like MARK.

Hi everybody, I saw Mark right on schedule last night, and was in for quite the pleasant surprise. You see, I've never actually visited with him in his room before, and old Freddie didn't perform due diligence as to his entire situation. As it turns out, he already has an amazing computer to not only communicate through, but much more. Just that it stays there in the room. He turned the t.v. off, turned on some music, many things he's able to do. He operates it the same as his scooter, by barely moving the tip of one finger. Quite amazing to watch, and very cool! For some reason which he seemed not to want to divulge, he's not hooked up to the net any more though. It didn't seem appropriate to push as to why...Not yet anyway...

We talked for about an hour, which still having to walk with gramma afterwards made me very late for dinner and my wife worried, but time was not an issue. It was awesome just to finally, and suddenly be able to communicate with him, albeit very slowly. He said he got my note from Sunday explaining things here, and is more than happy to receive any kind of love/healing,etc., that anyone is willing to send.

By the way, he doesn't think me or ya'll are nutters.lol. He also asked me to tell you guys "thank you".

There's probably not much more to add to this thread, except for me to also say thank you!!!

Cheers,
Fred

Hi Fred this is all good news, though if he is not "hooked" up to the net anymore, i think it is us that need his healing thoughts not vice versa : )

and again i have to say, thank you for being you!

Hi, Fred S ~ Just a thought but one of the greatest blessings it would seem to me would be to get Mark hooked back up to the NET provided he has that desire. Just think of all the friends he's made already here to replace any old friends who've fallen by the wayside during his illness. His mind is so bright ~ he's a gift to whoever comes to know him.

Since he has a computer and is not limited in that way, it may be a matter of costs for service provider and in the old days this would be legitimate concern. However, this retirement home or care facility were you are visiting him ~ probably has service for any who are able to tap into it. Also not everyone is aware that anyone parked next to a Jack-in-the Box or many other hotels, motels, and so forth are available bandwidth anyone can tap into ~ if they don't required passwords and codes. Even if they do, it is not that difficult to ask for permission in some way. Maybe you could see if this is a problem, we could help work something out for him.

You might be able to "hook him up" yourself, we could walk you through it here and yes, I am volunteering if you'd like assistance ; )

He may have some sadness about computer use ~ if his old associates and family no longer are available but this is no real limitation. If he wants friends, tons are lining up already to meet and greet him. This could mean a whole new world ~ not available just yesterday ~ to him that you've opened up for him NOW! So cool, yes?!!

Just a thought. Limitations only exist if we allow them to hinder us. There are ways to get around these limitations now in most instances. Using Avalon to open these doors for Mark might offer more healing than even we can imagine now. This is the beauty of life and being open! Much love! xoxoxox

Hi Darla, thank you for the kind offer! I have to laugh though, to walk me through something like that is like trying to walk a dog through the multiplication tables. He mentioned needing a computer geek, but then it seemed he may already have that geek in a brother who lives not too far away. After asking three times about being online and him changing the subject, I decided I was pushing where I didn't belong, atleast for now. He did say he's ready for wireless, but that the facility him and my gramma are in blocks the signal somehow. Confusing.

I actually don't know Mark that well, having only really 'talked" to him once now, so I'm feeling for now atleast, it's more appropriate just to get to know him as a person and a friend. There may be personal issues I don't know of, so I'm just going to leave it be for the time being.

Thanks for caring Darla, and if the opportunity arises I'll let ya'll coach me through the multiplicaton tables.

Its stories like this that makes me wonder: What does it make for a soul to be locked in a body without really being able to be seen,or heard...or to express itself...

from a spiritual level perspective,it might be that souls that take those kind of situation upon themselvs for life or for the end of their lives like Mark did,are actually taking upon themselvs the role of helping people around them learn more about love, compassion, mutual understanding, patience and respect.

If this 'theory' is true, than they are very much an advanced souls!

Look how Mark's story of competing with the ALS disease via Fred effected us

This thread is awesome. I think we've had our lesson. At first we all saw Mark's condition and experience from the outside and we saw it as awful and all wanted to help. With more information, Fred discovers that the universe is already taking care of Mark and giving him what he needs. More than that, Mark is living up to his Hero/Warrior name and not letting it get him down.

The lesson this has taught me is that we shouldn't be so quick to see the negativity in situations before we've learnt the full story and assume the saviour mentality. Not everyone we think is broken needs to be fixed.

My thanks to Fred and Mark.

I have a feeling he could end up teaching us a whole lot more as Fred gets to know him better.

We know that Mark believes in miracles. What more do we need?

I'm sending a miracle to Mark in the form of a local healer, whose identity I do not know, who will begin to work with Mark (with his permission) to heal him to whatever extent his soul purpose will allow.

I am sending warm cuddly hugs to Mark and am sending joy and a blissful-ness for as long as he accepts this.

I pray for the use of his hands and arms that he may have ability to use the computer and reach out and be-with.

I send him LOVE!! :yes4:

Hi all, this should probably be the last post on the subjject of Mark, per say. It seems more appropriate for Anchor's healing thread to take this sort of thing to a new level. Thank you for that John!!! If I have any future things to report on Mark, it will likely be in that thread if things can get up and running.

So in that interum let me just say I saw Mark briefly tonight, and there WAS a difference. Partly from the "feeling" I got from putting my hand on his shoulder, ( that's the handshake) his spirit seemed somewhat uplifted. Also, I could swear he could move and do his crude articulation attempts just a bit better than before. Mind you that I wasn't looking for this, my main reason for being there is to ensure gramma is o.k., but with my mind in a completely different place and busy with the usual daily distractions, this was duly noted. I thought ya'll might like to hear that.

Look at the possibilities before us Avalon!!! Dare to look at what me, you, all of us can do together!!! Don't just dream big things, dare to dream the "impossible", and know it will come to pass.

Cheers,
Fred

Holding you as closely in peace and love as I can Mark. I will not cry for that would not make you happy, I will not feign joy for that would be untrue to my spirit. I send you love, peace, joy, patience, and above all serenity in spirit. May you gain what you need in each moment.

Love,

Serenity

Things have been so wide open crazy round here recently that I haven't had much of an opportunity to speak clearly with Mark, atleast though his translation computer in his room. I keep promising I'll come and spend some time, but multiple other events have just not allowed it thus far.

What I CAN report is that last week, there was an incident with a gentlemen in there who is in a wheelchair, has full use of his arms, and occassionally will attack another resident when he is p.o'd, whether it is an old lady or what. Apparently this past week this guy Dennis did this to helpless Mark. He grabbed his arm and tried to jerk him out of his chair. This wonderful woman who looks after Mark named Marlene talked to management, and management, in all their infinite wisdom, suggested Mark should be someplace else.:mad2: She is going to file a complaint, and I made sure to tell her what I've seen with this violent guy in the past, and to please bring me in for any testimony needed.

I'm slow to anger, but if Bob the glitzy sports car owner tries to kick Mark out, it's going to be 'game on'. There are certain times in life when one must stand, and this may be coming. The recent progress Mark has made will not be snuffed out...

Cheers,
Fred

Tell them they have failed in their duty of care obligation and are negligent in letting this guy attack people.
They are liable criminally and civilly and that you have proof.
That will get their attention.
You won't have to even say ''law suit'', they will hear that in those words.
If you need more info/help, let me know.
