Hi All,
I thought you might like to read about my sighting in 1973. Mr Katz's article is what I witnessed and his description is eerily similar to mine and even the events leading up to the same location as Mr Katz. The article written in a book about it called Visitors from Outer Space by Robert Ellis Cahill and published by Chandler Smith Publishing house number 8.
Here it is rewritten for the thread.
'A similar craft was encountered in Salem on June 2nd, 1973, by Louis Katz of Beverly. He was driving home late from his job at the County Registry of Deeds in Salem, and was about to cross the Kernwood Bridge which leads into Beverly, when he saw a bright pulsating light over the Kernood Country Club. "I thougt it might be a blimp, but the shape wasn't right," said Katz. "When I reached the bridge, off to my left, near high-power tension lines that follow the Danvers River from the power plant, I saw a strange craft hovering about 200 yards away, and approximately 400 feet off the ground. "It was cigar shaped," said Katz. "with about 20 square windows, well lighted, on each side. A form appeared to be moving slowly across the line of windows, so that the lights from them would be briefly obscured, almost like the opening and closing of a camera shutter." The UFO made no noise,"and it moved very slowly," said Katz, "in an odd way. It would move a few feet, then stop in place for a few minutes, then move again. "I was a little scared, yet thrilled at being so close to such a strange craft." Eventually it moved out of sight, around a bend in the river. Katz quickly drove home and got out his C.B. radio to report the sighting. Then he jumped back into his car with a nine-iron and his German Shepard and went back to the Kernwood Country Club. "I saw it again," said Katz, but at a greater distance. My dog started acting strange, and I was getting nervous out on the golf course alone, so I went back home. Then I got a call from the C.B. operators that he had seen it too, further up the river near Peabody." Katz said he got a call a few days later from somebody whosaid he was a U.S. government official. Katz was told by the man "not to discuss the UFO anymore-just drop it. "Also," Katz adds, "on the night of my sighting, some homeowners along the river complained of losing their electricity."
A similar report appeared in the 'Salem Evening News' article dated June 2, 1973.
My story:
It just so happens I was driving in my car with my girlfriend heading towards the Kernwood Country Club. I pulled up to a t-intersection and stop sign to turn left when I noticed the object Katz describes above the treetops about 100 feet away. I stopped the car and got out to observe it better. I could see the figure moving and my girlfriend started getting nervous and wanted to go home. I dropped her off and headed back home to get my Dad and tell him what I witnessed. He was willing to go out and observe it so we drove to the Country Club where there is a nice overlook on the Danvers River and in the direction the craft was traveling. No object was observed but the police drove into the parking lot where we were and asked what was going on. I told him what I witnessed and he mentioned he followed it from the other side of Salem. It convinced my Dad that I had seen something and the next day in the newspaper an article reported hundreds of people witnessed the event.
Many years later about 2004 or 2005 I wanted to research out if anything was written about the sighting and was surprsied I couldn't find anything on MUfON or anywhere else. I decided to file a report and I got an immediate response by an investigator in Mass. (local chapter) and he was very interested in researching out the report. I told him of the approximate dates and times and he couldn't find the articles I spoke of in the paper. I was disappointed so I called the Salem Library and the librarian there offered to help me find the articles. She eventually sent them to me and then I called the investigator. I was surprised when the investigator came back with a reply that what I seen was a slow moving airplane carrying a lit sign. That was weird, so I wrote a MUFON report stating there could be possibly infiltrators working in UFO organizations that are there to stop important sighting events. That is what this felt like. But in the end it was good because it made me start searching for answers an eventually to serious sky watching and to my current sighting event that I'm documenting through video. Thanks,

I'm going to try and attach the clippings and see if it works. I clicked the attach button but nothing...hmmm
