Does anyone know what happened to the Germany's Radiation dispersion model simulation of Fukushima site ??
It seems to have been terminated Aug.3rd and cannot be accessed ever since.
Any information of alternative radiation dispersion "information site" would be appreciated.

How you doing over there Kumonitori?

How's the situation in Japan regarding the radiation on food, water and people in general can you share what is going on that we don't see here.

As you may have already heard, highly radioactive beef (fed with radioactive hay & water near disaster area) were distributed to supermarkets all over Japan. From what I understand, the only reason this incident came to light was because a mother, curious about food safety (the source of the beef) did a little investigation and looked up the beef tag number only to find out that it was from Fukushima. After that, there was panic -- the supermarket manager cleared everything from the shelves and notified the JPN govt. But until this information was revealed, I'm sure millions of people had already consumed the meat for dinner. Media reported that the meat was distributed to virtually all prefectures.

(Radioactive Cesium Contaminated Beef)
Areas in blue indicates beef that were already being sold in supermarkets. The prefecture in white have not been verified yet.
This is only a beef issue that made it to the news, however what about pork and chicken, and fish and veggies???? With this kind of lame ignorance or stupidity of the health ministries and food safety "individuals" --most surely the SAME level of contamination is found in all food and water.

The tolerable level of radioactive contaminated food and water, a week after March 11th, was hiked up considerably, -- like as if the Japanese had become immune to radiation poisoning over night. As an example, contamination limits for 1kg of rice (which the Govt. had set after the Chernobyl accident) was 0.1 becquerel, is now 500 becquerel.

Below is a chart set after Chernobyl - top three in the list indicate
Water 10 bq/kg
Milk 100 bq/kg
Meat 370 bq/kg
Veggies 100 bq/kg

http://blog-imgs-15.fc2.com/h/a/n/hanakaikou/20110320180605a40.jpg

However, now the limits have changed to the chart below (as an eg. for Cesium) ;
Water 200 bq/kg
Milk 200 bq/kg
Meat 500 bq/kg
Veggies 500 bq/kg These figures may have been hiked up even more recently.
Chart below is divided in sections for Iodine, Cesium, Uranium, and Plutonium plus other heavy elements.

WHAT CAN I EAT NOW !!!!
I don't eat or drink any dairy products, meat, fish (especially clams shellfish and bottom dwellers), choosing carefully the veggies to see where they were grown.
Stock up on rice harvested from last year (in a few weeks time, this years harvest will start making its way into the market)... and I also try to buy imported food from out of the country if possible. NOW, what do I do about water...

NOW, what do I do about water...

All I can find is this that may be of help....

The main contaminants by far should be soluble solids, e.g. metal salts of e.g. radioactive caesium, rubidium etc. These can not be filtered e.g. by charcoal or any ceramic or paper filter with whatever fine pore structure since they are dissolved! You can only either try to demineralise that water (e.g. by reverse osmosis) or purify it by distillation thus leaving the radioactive solids behind (the condensed water in the lids of your pots consists of such distilled water droplets). A third potential method would be chemical precipitation. However, in order to know which chemical to use to precipitate the contaminant(s) with, you’d first have to analyse the water components. And in all probability the traces would be too small for normal analysis and if the salt etc. was determined then you might find there is noprecipitant to go with it or it may have adverse side effects, e.g. be poisonous. So de-mineralisation or distillation it is.

I am looking into this a little further, plus am trying to set up radiation free food suppliants from southern hemisphere locations.... PM message me if you want me to keep you up to date on what I am doing over the next few months.

Hi Kumonitori, I don't have much experience with radiation but let me ask some friends and looking on the net to see if I can find something to help you.

Here is a bit more information on practical ways to remove the bad particles...

PURIFICATION OF RADIO ACTIVE WATER

Before I start on the cleaning method for water I just want to state a simple fact:

There is no such thing as "radio active" water.

Water can not be made "radio active". It can have irradiated particles suspended in it. The water itself will not be radio active... just what is in it.

In nature, everything wants to be equalized or balanced. That includes water contaminated with radiation. Mother Nature is the ultimate equalizer. She cleans things with distillation, plants and natural filtering. We will mimic the cleaning effects of nature itself with our water cleaning techniques.

I have also designed this method for when you have almost nothing to start with.

But: You do have to at least have:

- a container.

- some way of starting a fire.

- access to wood (hardwood being the best).

- access to fine powdered clay (river bank clay will do).

- and of course - water.

In order to purify radio active water two things have to happen.

1) sacrificial particles have to be held in suspension to absorb the abundance of energized radio active molecules.

2) A cleansing blanket is added to the water to remove the original sacrificial particles.

These 2 steps MUST be done twice for maximum cleaning effect.

The best cleansing particles for removing radio active particles is green coal. An excellent second choice is charcoal. Because green or immature coal is not easily found charcoal is our obvious choice. Charred wood or charcoal can easily be made made with any fire. If you are concerned about maximum quantity of carbon rich charcoal you will need to get the fire going and then restrict the air that supplies oxygen for combustion. When charcoal used to be made by hand for the filtering of water or whiskey, sods were used. Sods are green grass with dirt held as a basket in the roots. If sods were not available flat rocks were often the second choice.

In essence, you build a fire, then try to stop 95% of the air from being able to reach it. This burns mainly the combustible gases in the wood and leaves the non oxidized carbon behind. Exactly what we are looking for.

Once the fire cools and stops all combustion, take the charcoal and crush it up to a fine powder. This is the active particle source we will be using. If you do have access to green coal, crush it up and us it the same way as the charcoal.

Pour approximately 2 cups of the finely crushed powder in a shallow container. Add your water. Unfortunately, the crushed powder will float on the surface of the water we are cleaning. To begin with, we will just keep stirring the floating powder into the water about every 10 - 15 minutes. The original carbon powder we added will be used up quite quickly (the effectiveness of the powder will be short because of the strong initial neutralization).

After 2 - 3 hours you can either filter out the carbon (charcoal) with a filter set up of lift the bulk of the charcoal out of the water with a screen or strainer. Obviously filtering is your best option if available.

Repeat the process by adding another 2 cups of the carbon (charcoal) and allow it to sit covered for approximately 24 hours.

Locate a fine clay formation (usually along rivers) and scrape the top 1" - 2" layer away. It is best to use dry clay for the final filtering as this will be easy to sprinkle on the water surface. We are using a wine clearing technique to pull 99.5% of all the contaminants out of the water. Use about 1/2 - 1/3 cup of this fine clay for each gallon of water and mix thoroughly with the water. Allow it to sit for about an hour. Attach a 3 foot piece of rope to the container and spin in a circle to drive the cleaning clay towards the bottom of the bucket. (Picture twirling a bucket over your head fast enough for the water to not dump on you). Spin it at a good velocity about 8 - 10 rotations and then let it sit over night. Pour off the mostly clear water from the top. This water will be over 99% clear of radio active particles. Remove any floating charcoal that remains floating on the top.

At this point, I am not sure whether I should say "Enjoy" or "Drink Up" based on the seriousness of the situation. But it is good to know that is this is the water you are faced with, there is a way to make it clean.

Lastly, I am listing some plants which are well known for their ability to clean water of almost anything including radiation, heavy metals along with an assortment of chemical contaminants.

- Water Hyacinth - this rapid growing water plant is excellent at purifying at a very fast rate.

- Sunflowers - another winner. The sunflower can clean 95% of all toxins out of soil and water usually within 24 hours. An incredible plant, sunflowers were used on floating styrofoam in the Chernobyl clean up. After 24 hours, the roots contained 8,000 times their volume of strontium radiations which was rapidly reducing the total radio active particle count in the contaminated area.

Wow, thanks for that info phillipbbg, nature always knows better.

I hope Kumonitori can use it to drink safe water.

I always try to find methods that can be done with what is easy to find... and nature is the most efficient worker of miracles. I hope that it is of help and that he can pass the knowledge around to the real people on the ground. It is interesting to understand that water itself does not get contaminated by radiation, its the particles that are floating around in the water that do the damage, so its all about separating the particles from the water....

For those that live in Japan and still searching, I've found another site (Meteomedia AG Switzerland), which shows predicted wind flow of particles from Fukushima -- as the dispersion model from Norway, or Germany were taken down a few months back.

It would be good to know the concentration of the particles being released across JPN, but I'm assuming the further away from the Epicenter, the more diluted it becomes.
This link below might give some ideas as to the concentration level of blowing particles (Bq/m3) and (uGy/h) for each day, each hour.
http://www.bousai.ne.jp/speedi/SPEEDI_index.html

Am I correct in thinking that these particles will continue to accumulate on the soil, land and water, increasing levels of contamination each minute around the world? The fact is, it's still ongoing and NOT under control (levels are too high for any human being to even enter the facility), and will probably continue for a long time, years, even decades... As many (in JPN) simply go on with their everyday lives as usual, uninformed (or ignorant) about food & water contamination, let us stay alert and aware that the incident is far worse than Chernobyl, and we have as reference, the 26yrs of data showing the effects on the people; what JPN will face in a few years time. http://www.nyas.org/publications/annals/Detail.aspx?cid=f3f3bd16-51ba-4d7b-a086-753f44b3bfc1
