Hi guys and gals,
Iīm an Industrial Designer, musician and painter. Over the last few years, Iīve stumbled across many impressive works, you know, that kind of work that makes you think "why havenīt I thought about it before?". Itīs a nice sensation!
Unfortunately, since a 2009, Iīm noticing that these kind of works are gradually disappearing. Itīs been a long time I donīt see any artistic works that could really grab my attention.
I usually spend every morning browsing around my favorite websites, looking for new things, new references. Itīs part of my job, you know. I used to stumble across impressive artistic works every day, then every week, then every month and now, I canīt really find nothing really innovative in the artistic fields.
Whatīs going on???
Personally, Iīve been struggling with my own creative crisis for a long time. Itīs part of my job as well, you know, when you work with creativity every single day of your life, itīs a kind of normal. However, I feel Iīm dealing with something different right now.
My creative energy is at the top, but I donīt feel compelled to actually do something with it, you know, convert this energy to ideas, and then materialize it.
Thereīs something inside me saying that I should save this energy for something bigger...Itīs so strange, that Iīm actually not working for two months. I donīt really feel like working and, as Iīve made a good money reserve, I donīt actually need to work for a couple of years.
My mind is so quiet these days...I feel like Iīm thinking of nothing and everything at the same time...My days are so short...
Iīve always been so proud of my intelligence. Iīve always manage to balance both rational and emotional intelligence very well, but now...Now I feel something different, Iīm feeling a different kind of intelligence that Iīve never experienced before...Itīs hard to describe it, but I think itīs an out of the brain intelligence...something non-neurological.
Thatīs something really deep I want to share with you, something that might sound confusing...
I read a lot. Lately, Iīve noticed that while I was reading, my "between the eyebrows" chakra starts vibrating so hard, like it was hit by a bullet, sometimes. After a while experiencing this phenomenon a lot, Iīve noticed that it started vibrating when I was reading specific words. I started to take note of those words, and, until now, here are the words iīve collected:
You - Donīt - Need - Create - Victim - Hands
Iīm always experiencing lots of small muscular spasms lately, but Iīm not sure if they are muscular, because I feel feel them, but I canīt see them.
I wonder if any of you, that works directly with creativity, or not, is experiencing the same symptoms.
I would really appreciate as many feedback as I can.
PS: Iīm sorry if this thread is a little bit confusing. I guess Iīve made two treads inside one...

I've thought about starting threads about such things, but you're right, it's hard to describe.

I know what you mean I think. Im an aspiring writer, fantasy and sci fi, and Im working on a story that will be like, the crown of my writing career. In the beginning I had a few vague concepts, character and events to throw together, but... its strange. There are still big holes I havent filled in the story, but every once in a while I get this feeling, something nagging at the back of my mind. Ive identified the feeling as "the feeling I get before a significant idea pops up." Really wierd, but EVERY time I feel it, I get a good idea, and theyre the kind of idea that doesnt get discarded, they fit perfectly from the second they come to my mind. And I can almost always identify what triggered the feeling.
Long story short, the main concept of this story Im on about, its like an alien invasion type scenario in a medievil setting. The thing that eventually brought me to Camelot and Avalon is a friend who was into alternative history theories surrounding ancient aliens and such like, I started following them originally because it seemed like a goldmine of inspiration for my books; I always wanted the story to have some real world references (got an atmospheric flaw that shows up in it, hello Ozone) but in seeing all this stuff I wanted to reference some alternative history as well, as the story is already along similar lines. Anyway, said friend (hes actually my uncle) put this song on called Astronomy (originally by Blue Oyster Cult, but this was the Metallica cover) and it mentions a name; Dezdenova. I dont know how, or why, but somehow I KNEW that name, KNEW it was a character in my book. I cant explain it properly, but somehow Dezdenova was there all along, I just hadnt realised.
Im convinced some part of me knows everything about the complete version of the story, its as if I have already created it, I just need to remember...

I'm a digital artist. When I started, I was not very good, but very prolific with my ideas. Now it seems as my skills have become better, the ideas and motivation to create art is ebbing. I sit in front of the screen and I have no desire to start anything. I too have been dealing with weird muscle spasms, but that could be from lack of sleep, who knows.
Once the kids are in bed and it's past 9pm, I used to be a creative demon. Now I'm just bored and feel like there's nothing there.

I've just re-read your posting.
A quiet mind is wonderful for creativity. It is open and responsive, however it has no needs.
So maybe come down a little and reintroduce the ego and say hello. But this time the ego works is spaciousness.
I sort of look around, listen, read, watch other's responses and a sort of gap appears or a point that may be missed by others. But then that suits my temperament.
Maybe look closer at your feelings towards the world. Maybe ask an inner question and see what happens. Every night is say I'm not writing any more. Every morning just after mediation, something just pops in.
If you look, you may see that the world lacks something from your point of view, so say it!
Or give what you think you lack, that can be very subtle.
Sometimes a mediative mind can fix us too much, so we have to loosen up. The Buddha said, Not too tight, not too loose.
Passion is allowed!

I am relatively new here, I too found my way to this community as result of research I have been doing for a story I am writing. I agree that something is shifting, something is happening with regards to creativity. But I think we may be getting some type of system upgrade and so our old OS is having difficulty interpreting what is happening.
Good luck bad luck, who can tell. :)
for example- what brought me circling around here-
About twenty years ago, I had a dream that inspired a children's book that I wrote and illustrated "Winnie Mae". A few years after that, I found myself circling back to the story underneath the story, the one that I was afraid of, the one that seemed too ambitious, too personal. Now, years later, I have hundreds and hundreds of pages, a multitude of outlines and ideas, volumes of research, at times a novel, at other times, a screenplay. And through it all, my spiritual evolution continues, of course. And as I live this story, I realized, (not at first, but gradually) the story was me. And it was us.
Of course it is, of course.
The dream (from twenty years ago that btw I jotted down on an envelope upon awakening)-
I stood in the bright sunlight, out in the open of a vast expanse of a concrete runway, amber light of the tropics, everything bleached out in a sort of ancient Kodachrome palette. I was very comfortable, I could feel the sun, and my feet on the ground, my breathing, all at once. There was a rush of activity all around me, I was witnessing it all, but not feeling any apprehension or fear.
At first glance, it looked very much like military aircraft being readied for deployment, circa WW2 era. I knew all the planes by sight, enough to know that there was a very eclectic mix of civilian and military planes mixed together- a silver flanked Lockheed Electra being loaded with cargo, a Mitchell B-25 with engines running as the cargo doors were being pulled shut. The planes all had what looked like military markings on them, but as I looked closer I could see they were esoteric symbols and markings. I remember especially my surprise at recognizing the Celtic spiral on the nose of the bomber, and the words Bryn Awyrn (or something like that) inscribed below. Each airplane seemed to be representing different philosophies, beliefs, practices, all united in a common effort. They were all painted in a tremendous variety of strange colors and markings, but yet, all sharing resources and working together.
The planes were all taxiing out to take off, one by one. I watched as one of the larger planes, a B-24 flying fortress, lifted off. About 1000 feet above the end of the runway, just as the gear was retracting, the bomber shimmered, and then disappeared. I watched as one plane after another followed, each of them crossing the portal into another realm. It was the alliance of love, the forces of all that is, making the jump into the etheric.
I was in Avalon.

Thanks RMorgan! So glad to know I am not the only one suffering from this!
I am a very creative person as well within art, writing, and music. Its all i've known for most of my life. Its very natural for me to engage in any or all of these activities daily. Since about the same year you've stated(2009), my will to participate in these activities have declined considerably. I think about them often but feel weighed down by something that slows(for lack of a better word) me down to a point of doing nothing but just thinking about them. I feel congested somewhat because these things helped in the release of stress and other emotions. My mind is working overtime always and it seems there isnt much i can do but continuously feed it information.
Often I wonder is this the desired effect by TPTB these days. To have humanity trapped into these gooey pods of immobility with cords attached to the back of our heads like in the Matrix movie. It seems everything is becoming "do from home" such as schools, shopping, dating, conversing, etc. Sometimes I feel we are being forced slowly into being isolated from each other except through digital devices. It seems much is being done to make us fearful or suspicious of each other. Dont do this because terrorist are waiting to kill you, dont have that or police will arrest you, your neighbor is hiding something, we are running out of this, here's a problem, there's a problem, etc. you get my point......
Im genuinely a pretty positive guy, so often I feel the need to turn inward to my creativity to express my feelings about all these things, but these days the door appears to be locked so I go sit down somewhere and try to relax.
Damn you Big Brother!:p

I agree with you about the need to constantly feed my head information. While working, I'm always looking at the alt news sites to see what is going on. I think the stress of some of the things I read, coupled with financial and other stresses at home are smothering my muse. I have very little patience any more and I'm a person who had abundant patience in the past.

I'd have to agree with this. In fact I'll even add to it. I think the seemingly "lack" of true inspired creativity that you're witnessing, the fact that you're witnessing it is quite possibly your inner voice steering you in a direction of inspiration for your creativity. Whether it be what the world lacks or what you lack (or both), its the "whats missing" that seems to be the point. I've noticed it too :) and its helped me to dial in on a certain wave of creativity.
Pin'e'al's last statement above is not only true but in terms of creativity, I would say required. From my experience, passion is the pepper as inspiration is the salt which flavors our creativity! Anyway, this is probably something you already know and I'd say to look at the "whats missing" in what you're seeing, you may just be standing on the edge of something! This could also explain the need to "save the energy for something bigger".

There could be another point. I am only generalising here, it's about nihilism. Sometimes in meditation we get to emptiness, but that can go too far and we may end up at pointlessness. As a creative person I've been there, and it can become destructive and a bit depressing. There are two aspects to our being, the essence is emptiness and the cognisant knowing nature, they have to go together. They are the two truths, relative and absolute.
There is a point to creativity and that is the expression of consciousness....life! When someone else sees or hears the artists work they pick up that spontaneous vibrance. And fun!!!
It doesn't always have to be technically perfect. It's meditation in action!

Ok heres an idea... how about we get a thread opened where we chronicle our own creativity? Each of us who posted in here-and anyone else who enjoys being creative in all manner of ways-could throw their thoughts in when they feel the need, show how they are progressing maybe, yada yada. Something to help each other out, passing inspiration from one creative mind to another... Sound like a plan?

Just recently I have been seeking personal evidence to corroborate Calleman's theory. Unfortunately I have very few memories of what has been happening over the last 10-15 years!
However I can say that a) Calleman's Eighth Underworld seems to coincide with an extremely creative period in my life and b) his Ninth Underworld seems to coincide with a very fallow period. Not everything has been written down, but maybe I am waiting for something to happen.
Just a thought

I started to take note of those words, and, until now, here are the words iīve collected:

Note . . . this is my first "reply" to a forum post here . . . I hope I do this correctly . . . .
I almost couldn't believe it when I read this . . . I too have noticed this sensation as of late when I am reading certain things but I honestly haven't taken note of "specifics". Instead, I have tried to recreate the sensation upon meditating . . . which brings me to my my next point . . . I have only been able to "feel" my third eye vibrate upon meditating for a couple of years now. At first, the sensation was palpable and I felt myself open to the universe . . . then, and after a 10 month bout of having my ears ring, I have been unable to "access infinity" as I like to call it except once in a blue moon.
I thought that this sensation when I was reading was a result of my brain waves and energies attempting to synchronize to the universe and infinity but now I will pay closer attention to specific words and see what I come up with.
I too have been having enormous problems with my abilities to get my projects done . . . I have been attempting to write a self-help book for addicts for sometime now and it was slated to be finished at the end of last year but I just can't get myself to get all of my ideas (of which I have plenty) into a cohesive package . . . I have never had difficulties like this until now.
Thank you so much for sharing. I will get back to you with a list of words as soon as I have it together.

Our creativity is energized from spirit and muse ,
-and life that is so much more ....
Creativity is one of many aspects to your life .
You serve yourself the answers , in OP ..
Take some time off (being creative)
Be practical , be lazy , just be , for a while ...
It will all come back in another way and form
and context . And you will do what you do best
in combination , the only nation ,
thru skill , determination , will and stamina ,
( and you have the funds )
Do something completely different for some time .
- and maybe apply your skill and craft in
another way , somehow
and somewhere .
- All the world is quite close these days .
Movement tends to sharpen the senses , and
awareness of self and surrounding .
(everyone can benefit from being removed)

(september 11th annoversary coming up soon)
What about imagining, and screening an animation of beeing :
- The guy who pushed the button on blowing up the towers
- The group of assasins and agents running amok in the twin towers
on the night and the morning of the september 11th "terror-attacks"
(cause it was terror, nomatter who is the force behind it)
(and there were reports of finding dead bodies in siderooms)
Imagine being part of a commitee, planning the attacks , or the "show"

Ok I use sound to steady the muscle twinges so to speak.. if you listen to the following vid and relax you may find certain muscles will involuntarily spasm , this if you play it for several days in a row will stabilise the spasms.... here is the vid

As for creativity, I think the lack there of is an effect of our all joining into a collective form of communication namely the internet, it is one of the only negatives. If you are aware of this influence, you can switch off from the web and re connect with nature (sorry sounds a bit hippy doesn't it) Look deeply at what is around you... as the saying goes learn to smell the roses. You will find your ideas will start to flow again.... Good luck and enjoy the journey...

Too many people look outside for what other people are doing and try to emulate, there is nothing wrong from having influences but true creativity comes from an honest expression from the inside of the creator him/herself, too many people are afraid to be unique...for me as a musician creativity can only flow when you are honest and looking inside...
Creativity is only lacking in the world when you look at the fake plastic mainstream world, behind all of that is an abundance of talented creative people doing amazing things, take commercial radio for example, 90% pure rubbish...
...as an artist i can understand the dread of having the creative flow shut off, and this would cause stress, what causes it? I am no expert on anything but i have had alot of experience with depression and mental health, and the bombardment of guilt and fear the mainstream pushes down peoples throats....i watch about 3-4 hours of tv a week, max - it makes a big difference :)
When i am feeling down or blocked, i try and immerse myself in nature and just be...its a wonderful meditation and you learn so much in the silence of a forest :P
Thanks guys :)

Hi,
I can try and share my insight of things evolving arround me and some my thoughts about this good topic.
From very joung age i discovered paper and pen and couldnt simply stop drawing, every electric thing in house i took apart than back :)
Very quick started to develop my own amps or radios and electric stuff that seemed interesting to me, i admired Tesla's work from young age but somehow deep in me i knew i had to stop and keep at play part and not go further yet...
Educative system tryed to do some kind of comply person from me which never did actually, while trying i found my escape route through music and lotta activities such as computer programming and few sports.
For me creation process was always very simple... if some greater idea for benefit of humanity im in 200% and im in with love and caring, if idea is to selfishly fulfill some empty purpose ( like commercial, video presentation of non working ideas and such)
i would always step back from it and i simply cant finish it.
Once for example we needed to do some 3D animation lasting 6min for showing one of our old city, when i heard idea i was all filled with creativity that i was ready to use on that project. We did it for 3 months, a three artists too.. but
those other two companions in our creation was tired after 1 month of work, and i didn't started yet in full engines ahead :)
Soon i found myself sitting in our room all by myself without idea which day is in a row creating with smile on my face ( i do that often .. simply time does not exist for me in linear sequence so i extrapolate it in beginning ). Then i noticed other two
guys feeling step back from thing i did in that animation and than rush came.. they were looking through web what other humans did, how they created this and how they created that and filled their creativity with "other" ideas. This act was below
honor for me so i continued to get ideas straight from matrix thought patterns. On end one was totaly exhausted and didn't came to job last few days, other one changed his facial expression alot from careless artist to somekind of stalking animal.
In begining of work i needed to do 3D modeling and lightning/rendering, on end i did almoust all, from animation to building render farms and keeping it all under control.
After we finished it, animation was sent to few festivals and got quite nice ammount of awards, than i noticed in credits appeared few people which i never seen listed as working ones. The guy with shapeshifting face took all the credits and i found out
(cause somehow i always do) that this animation was money laudering process. So i went to the ceo and i quit that job cause i dont want to do that in future in that way. And even till today now and that exits some newspaper article of creative process
for that animation from guy that got pissed 1 month after work.. i thought, dude this is sooo wrong ... but who cares :D
Yes through many years of observing artistical and creative approaches i found very big similarity of what you writing here now. For me creativity is hollow even before some period, it was hollow from beggining.
Where do i see problem? I see it in a BOX!
people from some strange reason lock themselves in a box and live in that and die in it. So one is drawing, other is singing, one is climbing, other is building.. what can they do with it for serious.. actually and honestly very small ammount of useful options.
The more we approaching the moment i realise creativity is a process which can not be separated from each other. If i could draw from my mind, what can stop me to make machine from my mind or some music? why should i choose only one direction or 3 of them. For me creativity is just a name for ability to retrieve information that lies around us and use it like lego blocks and construct whatever you feel will have some purpose or just play or fun with learning and discovering.
The more we go further i started to combine arts and started learning new things.. to create something of use i can combine knowledge about sound and vibration, with programming languages, mechanics, graphics/colors, architecture, design....
For me it somehow doesnt stop it just expands with time and i know that i could make some serious good things and my idea is everlasting, it is: benefit for all human kind and life itself
I strongly know that if you have idea, intention, doing, loving, caring you will progress.. thats why that idea about contributing is in my head from very youth till today and will ever be, because for me it is endless pool of creative play.
While holding and progressing with that in mind, any creative process shouldn't be problem at all and it is not problem actually for me. Never was.
I believe you feel something similar.. as i saw you are into music and design and creativity overall, maybe combining of all those or bringing new form of creativity could result with unblocking ideas :)

Here is my 2 cents about what is happening with creativity, being the only "un-artistic" person in my family.
maybe as we get older we start seeing the same things over and over again, that we no longer have that excited feeling a kid has when they see something new. also with the way the world works, people aren't thinking of creating in a creative way but in "what will make me money, that worked i will try it to." that we feel the same "art" is "thrown up" upon us over and over again.
on the other hand someone that meditates so much like you do, and has a real artistic sense, probably already knows there is something better out there and it is just getting frustrating that no one seems to be finding that thing, and you still can't put your finger on it.
it's as if we're thinking the universe is eternal with more things than we can imagine counting, so why do we keep seeing the same things over and over again, when these things are just a tiny dot of this universe and not even the best thing out there.
also funny u mention 2009, that is the year i had a life changing moment and thought "screw the mind, the spirit is the real intelligence of our life!"
try not trying anything artistic for a while and maybe "it" will come to you as you've cleared space for it....

Tony We were at the Museum of Modern Art in Washington D.C. and there was a room full of "paintings". One was half black and half white....period. I could have done it in 2 minutes with a canvas and black & white paint. One was a canvas painted white, that's all, just white paint. Genius! I told the curator that I could supply him with all the modern art he wanted. He gave me a smirk and walked off.
I think the artists are out there. Musicians, painters, writers. Problem is they are ignored. Brain dead, feeble attempts are promoted instead. Lady Gaga, bad rap (some rap is very creative, poetic), reality TV, tabloid crap, etc. is what we get.

I think you'd enjoy a book by the art critic Donald Kuspit called The End of Art. Here's a snippet:
What's true art in a world in which art is money? What's a real artist if there is any reality other than commercial reality to art? Van Gogh wanted to rid the temple of art of the moneylenders the way Christ rid the temple of God of the moneylenders. But today they own the temple of art, or at least the mortgage on it. Where for Van Gogh art was a way of celebrating God's creation, for the moneylenders it is a Golden Calf. Warhol makes it clear that they have taken over the temple, and that the artist himself has become a kind of moneylender. Today money seems to have become more essential to art than spirituality.

Well, I can tell you, even though I've had a few commissions here and there, I do not create my art for money. If someone wants to buy the rights to use my art, who am I to say no, but I create what I want to create.
Most of the people who use the programs I have, create images of beautiful women, all the time. 60% of which are normally nude images. I tend to go in a different direction, creating fantasy images of monsters, dragons and other types of fictional characters. What can I say, it's what I like to do. I've always been interested in making monsters ever since I was a wee lad. ;)

My creative energy is at the top, but I donīt feel compelled to actually do something with it, you know, convert this energy to ideas, and then materialize it.
My mind is so quiet these days...I feel like Iīm thinking of nothing and everything at the same time...My days are so short...
I wonder if any of you, that works directly with creativity, or not, is experiencing the same symptoms.
I would really appreciate as many feedback as I can.
^ Yes!, I myself am quite creative aswell, I can draw pretty good, have good knowledge of 3d modeling, polygons, geometrical shapes and design/proportion in general. Creating 'things' is always something I've been good at in an above average sence, however I feel the exact same thing, I delibrately discontinuid the art academy because I encounterd to much negavity towards genuine creativity, I will spare you my whole story, but lets say I just didnt feel compelled to utilize my skills in any commercial sence, and even though from now and then I still do some 3d modeling and drawing, I dont feel it has a certain goal, it just doesnt give the satisfaction it gave me as a child to just to create.
Now that I am older I try to rationalize why and what for I am doing what I am doing, specially in a sence how to contribute to the world as 'whole' but also how to contribute toward my own development as a creative human being...
Yes, I feel lost aswell.

is it maybe a case of
WHATS THE POINT?
I am quite surprised how I relate to this post,i am a similar creative and for the past year or so ,i have went from a massive firework of creativity to a damp squib.
I could suggest that my internet activity is to blame.

Having creativity in science and engineering is one of my goals.
Arts is a lot harder than studying sciences. Creativity in arts is different. Most creative artists usually recognized by next generation with few exceptions. That's how it works.
Being creative what I learned one has to destroy the fundamentals and can reconstruct new frames that embrace the old theories and add own interpretation on it. That's real creativity. Few out of billions reach at that levels. I'm a believer true knowledge has to bring the real power of manifestation in reality. How many real magicians ever existed on human history?
I often wonder when this slavery society replaced by free society so that every human does live by what they really love and enjoy. The amount of creative works from sciences and arts will be overwhelming.
Schools don't teach students how to enhance intelligence. Why? Most of teachers including professionals are organic machines. I'm sorry to say this but that's true. They are pretty good at copy-paste known theories, minor modification, and endless repeat. I say dumb down, slavery education is all about from elementary to university level. Conventional education is rubbish. Being a self learn for decades, I learned that continuous education is the way to go. But, it's far from reach.
If I'm a teacher, I'll teach students speed reading first so that they will take the essence with reasonable time. Also, how to measure one's level of understanding of specific subject. Most teachers are upset whenever a smart student challenges them. LOL "How dare?"
I think creativity comes as second nature when people do what they love and enjoy plus following two questions: "why" and "how about?"

Speed reading can be useful, but it has its dangers too. When you learn to read really really slow, you make some very interesting discoveries as well. Sometimes whole new worlds open up.

I understand this feeling as well. I am also trained as an industrial designer but I feel little compunction to exercise my skills for a corrupt system. I think that this is real focus of my own inability to get off my butt and create.
I have taken the advice of Inelia and decided to take control of my own reality. I know what is beautiful , I know what is good, I know what quality is and therefore I can reproduce it. I want to express the things that inspire me.
I was literally sitting in bed this morning planning a set of paintings I have had in my mind's eye for many years and working out how I was going to start work on them this week. Coming across your post this morning confirms the fact that I must act and act today. Thank you
Find what really inspires you and then act upon it. :high5:
