Excellent Muzz, thank you!!! The late and great Alan Watts is welcome to my backyard pub for conversation, and a few hits of his favorite beverage, vodka, any evening. If Bob Dean happened to show up the same night, all the better, a bottle of Jack patiently awaits...
Cheers,
Fred

I've always appreciated the way he had of putting ideas of Zen and meditation simply, with humor, and not making it a chore. Many of his contemporaries of the day like Suzuki frowned upon his adlib antics, apparently it wasn't considered proper...Well pooey on that mate...
Cheers,
Fred

I used to live in Marin County in the Bay Area, where Alan Watts made his home, and I knew his gardener, who was quite an enlightened soul himself. Watts' essence lived on quite tangibly.... or perhaps ... intangibly... even after his death, and I actually felt some elusive, nothingness-like tremor in the ethers when he passed.
I still remember his chain-smoking, whiskey-voice laughter after giving a speech on the first Harmonic Convergence. He had such a wonderfully positive take on the ironies of life.

Hey, that's pretty cool onawah, did you see him on his ferryboat Valejo? I wasn't aware he was also a whiskey man, hell, that's really my kind of guru...And to think he was also an Episcopal minister...Tsk, tsk...
Cheers,

Fred, I never actually met him, just saw him once when he spoke at the Harmonic Convergence gathering, and knew of him from our mutual friend, Arthur, his gardener, who also attended a lot of the social and philosophical gatherings at Alan's home. I understand he did like to imbibe, though I was referring to his "whiskey voice", not any inference that he liked whiskey in particular, though he may have. His insights into Zen thought are flawless and timeless.

You'd better not let your mind wander while reading Watts' books or you'll be lost in two paragraphs. ;) I really like the guy. Lots of good reading on his website.
Watts. ;)

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh, but there is an Alan Watts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Watts) and an Alan Watt (http://www.cuttingthroughthematrix.com/)
Both very insightful. Not sure which one you are referring to.
