FYI:

BlackBerry Website has been hacked after the company announced that it would assist the Metropolitan Police in its efforts to track the protesters down.

While Britain is witnessing its fourth night of angry protests despite unprecedented deployment of riot police officers on the streets of London and other major cities, British leaders are trying to blame the protests on social networks.

The deputy assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Steve Kavanagh, said that those who use social media to coordinate protests would face arrests stating, “Social media and other methods have been used to organize these levels of greed and criminality.”

The police found that most protesters used BlackBerry Messenger instead of social networks, like Facebook and Twitter. BlackBerry Messenger is an instant messenger-style application that allows its users to send one-to-many messages anonymously, which makes it hard to detect the protesters.

After Research in Motion (RIM) Company, maker of BlackBerry, announced that it would cooperate with police forces in their bid to track the protesters down, its website was hacked, and a message was posted on it.

The message stated that if the company assists “the police by giving them chat logs, GPS locations, customer information & access to peoples,” innocent people would be arrested.

The message warned that if the company cooperated with the police, the company's database including its employees' information would be published.

“Think about it… and don't think that the police will protect your employees, the police can't protect themselves let alone protect others…. if you make the wrong choice your database will be made public, save yourself the embarrassment and make the right choice,” read the message.

Meanwhile, Scottish police have already arrested a 16-year-old teenager in the south side of Glasglow over the allegations that he had been in connection with a Facebook page entitled “Let's start a riot in Glasglow.”
