Is this the warned of arrival of the sun storm Nasa warned would arrive on 8th June ?
I live in Manchester and about 11 ish this morning all electricity, Radio, Internet went off everywhere in my locality. everyone's alarms went crazy etc. Was out for about an hour.Im wondering if they pulled the plug in anticipation of it hitting the area to stop overloads? anyone else affected?:eek

I understand the same. Also, I think it wouldn't just affect an small area.

All alarm systems have battery back up to prevent tampering with the mains so the alarm sounds with no supply of electricity. I was looking for confirmation of other areas affected??

We had two brown-outs today. I've never seen one of those in the two years I've been in this area of california.

If the sun storm cancels electromotive force nothing would work, not even a battery, but if it only affects the larger grid, a blackout and responsive alarm circuit could occure.

A powerful electromagnetic storm would overload and potentially fry electronic circuitry, which is why there is plans to shut down the grid if a major storm is about to hit earth. By reducing the overall voltage in the grid, the surge caused by the storm would be the only thing straining it and hopefully most equipment would survive as long as they are sturdy enough. Fragile electronics designed for low voltage will probably not come too well out of such a storm.
I don't think your blackout had anything to do with the sun though.

Hi there, to be able to see the Sun active and when, visit www.spaceweather.com or google: 2012info_ca - Solar Observatory.mht
Someone of the Avalon members posted this on the Forum, a while ago, don't remember who, but it's quite useful as it's updating itself contiunuously and shows live activity on the Sun.
Thanks and hopefully we will have our little free energy devices in the near future....... or discover we ourselves can generate free energy, who knows?
