View Full Version : Got Iodine?

Firstly, its always a great idea to use discernment and to follow up with research, if possible.
I recently purchased a bottle of 369 iodine. When I opened the bag, it came with letter and it went like this;
"From 1801-1820 iodine was made from seaweed. From 1801-1920's it was considered the 1st. treatment for human diseases and the cure for all female cancers/diseases. Women who took plenty of iodine during pregnancy had children with I.Q.'s at least 1-20 points higher than other children. For the past 20+ years iodine has been slowly removed from our foods and replaced with its sister elements bromide and fluorides, and is suggested by some to be the reason for increased deaths worldwide. Soft drinks, breads, milks, etc. have increased fluorides and, sadly, all fluorides "push out" iodine in the body and take its place. Therefore, in theory, humans need iodine now more than any other time in human history. Doctors have noted that where iodine is lacking, MS rates increase in that population. Here is some general information on iodine.
All cities along the Great Lakes have higher rates of hyperthyroidism and also the cities and states that have the highest rates of breast cancer. The day you put a woman on thyroid hormones for the treatment of hyperthyroidism, you literally double the chance of getting breast cancer. If a woman has been taking thyroid hormones for more than 15 years her risk of cancer is 19.6%. In 1924, Akron, Ohio, 56% of the people in Akron had goiters ... and that's the same for any city, in that time period, around the Great Lakes region- Milwaukee, Buffalo, Chicago, and Detroit, probably into Canada too. Dr. marine in Akron, Ohio, studied this problem and found that the incidence of goiter in little boys and girls was 1:1, HOWEVER, when the girls went through puberty it was 6:1. This is because the girl's breast tissue absorbed all the iodine and left virtually none for the thyroid. The United States government started iodizing salt and the incidents of goiters dropped by 1928.
The thyroid only holds 3% of all the iodine in the human body. 70% is in the muscle and fat, 20% in the skin. A lack of iodine to the ovary results in an ovary that sooner or later starts malfunctioning. The absents of iodine in early pregnancy within the first 2/3 months can lead to children with ADD. Iodine in early pregnancy actually helps determine the I.Q. of a child, enough iodine during pregnancy will increase a child's I.Q. by at least 15 points. In China there was a community that had very little iodine in the soil and water, so the Chinese decided to introduce the concept of fluoridating the water. After they put fluoride in the water all of a sudden the pregnant women were giving birth to babies who were severely mentally retarded with very low birth weight. Why? The fluoride competes with the iodine to get thyroid and if you don't have enough iodine in your body, the fluoride will win. In America, they use to put iodine in bread. One slice of bread in the 1960's would have 160 micrograms of iodine but they took iodine out of the bread and substituted it with bromide. More on bromide in a minute.
Iodine had been used to sterilize the udders of cows before they were milked and because the farmers used iodine this way, some of the iodine would go into the milk and the people who drank the milk were getting the benefit of the iodine. Sadly, they stopped using iodine to sterilize the udders. Now 50% of American women cook with salt that has no iodine in it, so now we have no iodine in bread, milk, and very little in salt. This is bad news because iodine supplementation was marginal to begin with! In the bread industry, since they took out iodine, they have been using bromide, which is halogen or halite substance. They put this in bread so that after the bread comes out of the over, the crust is soft. They started using bromide in bread in the late 60's early 70's, and took iodine out and put bromide in. Why is this bad for you? Well, in the 1920's there was a new product on the market called BromoSeltzer. People would take this whenever they had a hangover from drinking too much alcohol.
It turns out if you use too much BromoSeltzer, bromide will build up in the central nervous system and it was causing paranoid schizophrenia in people. You can still go to a medical dictionary and look up the word Bromomania and it will be a description of people who develop a psychosis from presence of bromide in the body. The New England Journal of Medicine stated that between 1920 and 1960, over 20% of the people that were in American psychiatric hospitals were being admitted fro acute paranoid schizophrenia. So, in the 40's and 50's when patients being admitted into hospitals for DT's because of not drinking alcohol, the doctors had to figure out if the person was coming off alcohol withdraw or if it was the Bromide in the BromoSeltzer that was making them act irrationally. This is what you put into your body when you eat commercial breads. In 1965, a new product comes out on the market that was loaded with Bromide, a citrus drink with caffeine added. The labels of some soft drinks say " Brominated Vegetable Oil", well, they put Bromide into these soft drinks to disperse the citric acid that gives some brands its citrus flavor, it is now in sports drinks as well.
A patient of a Doctor who was aware of the affect Bromide has on peoples nervous system had a son who was trying to make it into a high school sports team, he was about 20 lbs overweight, his coach came to him and said he needed to try and loose some weight over the summer and then the coach would see how he looked at the end of the summer--- all summer long this kids mother bought him citrus flavored sports drinks because he was out in the sun practicing and sweating. At the beginning of the school year, the boy comes in for his sports physical and his mother says that he is acting withdrawn, doesn't participate in any school activities, he thinks everybody is out to get him, he complains of stomach pain, decrease in appetite, he's becoming anorexic, has awful bad breath, and had chest pain. It was all from the Brominated Vegetable Oil in the sports drink---he was drinking a gallon a day, all summer long and it had soaked his body with this Bromide!
They gave him iodine to dissolve the Bromide and in a few weeks he was to normal. Iodine is clinically known to help the body get rid of Fluoride, Bromide, and Heavy Metals. Doctors had a test subject that would urinate into a container all day and at the end of the day they would look at what settled to the bottom and there was about a half inch of brown oily sludge. They found out that his favorite pace to eat was a fast food place that served soft drinks with brominated vegetable oil. The oily sludge at the bottom of the jar was bromide from the soft drinks. If you take Bromide and add it to Olive Oil and slowly stir it, it will turn the Olive Oil into a semi-solid blob and that's what happens in the human body, the Bromide goes into the fat stores of the body and actually mixes with the fat and solidifies it. They did a study on kids that drank 5 or more soft drinks a day; they took them off all soft drinks and the kids would loose up to 20 lbs. in a year, just from taking them off soft drinks.
The Japanese eat an average of 13.8 milligrams of iodine a day from sea plants, Americans take in an average of 138 micrograms, not enough! In Japan, men will get prostate cancer, but it usually will not metastasize --- the theory is because of their large intake of iodine it prevents the cancer from growing. If you don't have enough iodine in you body, you won't be able to perspire correctly and perspiring is one way we get rid of toxins. The difference is that Japanese eat ocean plants like seaweed, which are naturally high in plant based iodine.
SUGGESTIONS FOR USE Please start slowly, if you at any time notice any discomfort or ill feelings, discontinue use immediately. You may want to start with only 1 drop every day: you can then experiment upwards or downwards from that amount. Most customers have seen best results at first by placing 1 drop on the skin at the inside of the wrist, 1 drop a day for 5 days, then increasing to 2 drops, you may apply it either to the wrists or even the feet around the ankles, since the skin is thin in these areas.
You can see how long it takes for the yellowish stain on the skin to go away, usually minutes to a few hours. As a rule of thumb, when the iodine stays on the skin for over 24-72 hours, then you have enough iodine in your system, generally speaking. Basically, just expose your system to a steady supply of the iodine and it will go throughout the body and just do what it does best, all by itself! I have heard Doctors in interviews say that they do not know "why" exactly iodine can do so much for human health. Customers in the past that were exposed to food poisoning placed 5-10 drops into an ounce of water and drank it, this apparently killed all the bacteria in the stomach which caused the disturbance in the first place. This would be considered an experimental use. For scars, you can try to apply one drop per day directly to the scar, if it did NOT have any Novocain injected into the site, then it will heal much faster. Novocain disrupts the nerve endings, which makes it harder for the skin to heal naturally."
It's also good to note such info, 369 Iodine is a 1% solution of Iodine with a tincture base. 220 mcg of Iodine per drop.

Thats interesting. I was at a birthday on Saturday and the conversation turned to iodine, and how to intake it. The ideal seemed to be to paint it on ones feet before bed. Next morning it would be assimilated into the body. When it stopped being assimilated, your body had enough. Must go get some.

I work in a hospital that uses iodine to disinfect wounds - is there any difference in that kind of iodine and the 369 Iodine? Woud it work the same way - it certainly creates a fantastic stain!

I think I have found the answer - they use Povidone - iodine in hospital, the below is what some wiki had to say about it.
Povidone-iodine (PVP-I) is a stable chemical complex of polyvinylpyrrolidone (povidone, PVP) and elemental iodine. It contains from 9.0% to 12.0% available iodine, calculated on a dry basis.[1]
This unique complex was discovered at the Industrial Toxicology Laboratories in Philadelphia by H. A. Shelanski and M. V. Shelanski.[2] They carried out tests in vitro to demonstrate anti-bacterial activity, and found that the complex was less toxic than tincture of iodine in mice. Human clinical trials showed the product to be superior to other iodine formulations.[3]

This is interesting! After the Fukushima incident, I read that iodine helps with radioactive exposure. You can rub it on your thighs also. When applied through skin, the body will only absorb the quantity it needs. But be careful who you buy these products from. Joshua, do you know how legit these guys are?

If you live near the sea go beach combing for sea weed, let it dry and then deep fry it to eat, or am sure it can be boiled down so that a concentrate will form with high levels of iodine (but I would look up forms of extraction) we have to learn how to do things for ourselves these days ...this way we know what is happening. I make my own bread for this reason, also it actually tastes like bread and fills me up unlike the chemical balloon of starch that is what they call bread in the supermarkets. (just go around feeling the weight of bread it says a lot )
Great thread by the way with great info, I didn't know about applying through the feet.... would probably stop foot odour as well, must suggest it for my teenage son...lol

Haha, you may be right. Although on his letter it does say hyper.
Hypothyroidism (pronounced /ˌhaɪpɵˈθaɪrɔɪdɪzəm/) is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone. (a deficiency of thyroid hormone)
Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) is a condition in which your thyroid gland produces too much of the hormone thyroxine

Studies on sea vegetables with sodium alginate have shown that they selectively bound with radioactive strontium and eliminated it from the body. Sodium alginate is found in many seaweeds, especially kelp. Sodium alginate binds tightly to such substances as strontium, calcium, barium, cadmium and radium. Some seaweeds are contaminated with lead or arsenic so you only want to consume seaweed that is deep ocean harvested or has been tested to be free of metal toxicity (such as kelp from the west coast of South Africa or from the Southern waters of Australia).
Iodine is present in high concentrations in seaweeds also. To extract it here is a link to how...
http://www.practicalchemistry.org/experiments/extracting-iodine-from-seaweed,256,EX.html
Extracting iodine from seaweed
Ribbon seaweeds (sp. laminaria) contain iodine compounds which they obtain by extracting iodide ions from seawater. This iodine can be extracted from the seaweed by heating it in air to an ash, in which the iodine is present as iodide. The iodide is dissolved out of the residue by boiling water, the solution filtered and the iodide oxidised to iodine using hydrogen peroxide. The iodine colours the solution brown at this stage. Isolating the iodine from this solution can be done by solvent extraction, followed by evaporation of the solvent

Please note that topical iodine is NOT the same as that to be ingested. Application of topical iodine is the least effective way to get it into the system. There are many quality brands of iodine that can be used as a supplement.
This is excellent information Joshua and should studied seriously by all of us. Based upon my reading and experience, it's all valid. Thank you.

I don’t eat salt, meat, or seaweed, where can I get iodine? Your options are to consider supplements, buy foods enriched in iodine, or ensure that the plant foods you consume come from parts of the world where the soil is rich in iodine.
Get natural Kelp Iodine tablets from Vitabase.com
Get Potassium Iodide tablets from Amazon.com while supplies last, and at quite a price. Potassium Iodide is currently being recommended for the effects of radiation from Japan

Potassium Iodide should only be taken short term for radiation exposure. You can take it for several days in anticipation of having an X-ray also. But just plain iodine is best, no, essential, for long term supplmentation.

It is always better to get one's nutrients from natural sources. Take Kombu (also spelled Konbu), the seaweed. But be careful not to overdo it! Usually one gram per WEEK is advised.
You will have the added benefit of never having to suffer from bloating or gas again, so you can indulge in delicious beans. :-)

For foot odour, baking soda (NOT baking powder) sprinkled in the shoes should do the trick. :-)
Tea-tree essential oil is good, too.
But you are right, the chlorophyll in seaweed could help against foot odour, too.

Spirulina Manna™ Food for the Ancient Aztecs, 16 Ounces
Spirulina (Cyanobacteria) Species: Arthrospira Platensis
Super Nutrition for the modern lifestyle
Spirulina is an exceptional food and an incredible source of concentrated, non-toxic, absorbable nutrients. It is a highly beneficial substitute for protein powders. The protein in Spirulina contains all 8 essential amino acids, making it a complete protein. Spirulina (a blue-green algae), also contains vitamins A, B-1, B-2, B-6, B-12, E, and K. In addition, Spirulina also provides minerals, trace minerals, cell salts, phytonutrients and enzymes, as well as an abundance of chlorophyll & other beneficial pigments.
Raw meat is 27% protein, and even soybeans are 34% protein. Spirulina is 65% complete protein, making it the world's highest known source! Plus, our Spirulina is dried at low temperatures (enzyme active), so protein utilization is maximized versus a heated protein.
Beware! Proteins from animals forms relatively large amounts of uric acid, which can contribute to osteoporosis, gout, arthritis, lack of energy, acid body chemistry, aging and more! Animal sources of protein include the flesh from any animal, all dairy products and eggs.
Spirulina, soybeans, tofu, tempeh, lentils, chickpeas (garbanzos), all other legumes, seeds, nuts, etc. are superior sources of proteins. Some protein is contained in all plants!
Spirulina is a water-grown, 100% vegetable plankton. It is a blue-green algae that grows in fresh water lakes throughout the world. The ancient Aztecs thrived on Spirulina from Lake Texcoco in Mexico. For the people who live around the lake in Chad, Africa, Spirulina has been a mainstay in their diet for generations.
HealthForce Spirulina is grown in the U.S.A. without the use of pesticides and processed at low temperatures (to retain enzymes and other heat-sensitive elements)
HealthForce offers Spirulina of unsurpassed quality at a more affordable price
HealthForce Spirulina is packaged in amber glass bottles with a metal lid and oxygen absorber for optimum nutrient preservation.
Spirulina is so nutritious that it can be used as a totally absorbable, whole food vitamin and mineral supplement, plus so much more!*

Thanks NeverMind -- I was just going to suggest Kombu beans. I cook a 2-3" piece of dried kombu seaweed in with dried beans. It totally dissolves and you don't even know it's there, except I think it makes the beans taste even better. It may thicken the broth just a tad too. A great way to get iodine.
Also, does everyone know how to season veggie sushi so it's really good? Most probably do, but I'll tell you anyway... Put a few drops of tamari/good soy sauce on the sushi -- it's absorbed down into the rice. Then put a tiny-tiny bit of green wasabi paste on it, trying to put it evenly across (it can be a bit overwhelming if you get too much, but just a bit spices it up perfectly). Then put a small piece of pickled ginger on top. Don't get the crummy pickled ginger at the supermarket--go to your health food store where they have the good stuff. Eat up, it's the perfect combination of salty, hot, spicy tastes. It makes your mouth sing!
Your mouth will thank you, and you will get your iodine in a really enjoyable way! If anyone wants to know how to make your own veggie sushi, I'd be happy to post some info.

Oh yeah. :)
It's yummy, but in an unmistakably "beany" way. In other words, there is nothing in kombu that would spoil the dish's specific flavour.
I also like to take a strip whenever I feel constipated or just bloated.
My favourite right now is a preserve (just brine, really) of kombu and ginger.
The ginger, of course, doubles the benefits.
If only more people were aware of this wonderful alga!

Do you ever eat dulse? (not the underground base, the seaweed). It's very nice and mild, a good one for folks who haven't tried seaweed before.
And seaweed gomasio is a good salt substitute -- traditional gomasio i think is 8 parts sesame seed to 1 part salt. substitue dulse or other seaweed for that salt because it has a salty taste.
And thanks for the idea about ginger and kombu brine -- will try that. I keep a jar of chopped ginger in white wine in the fridge, preserves the ginger and gives the wine a gingery taste. Just top it back up with more wine. Great in Asian sauces.

I discovered a thyroid challenge this spring was from flouride poisoning. I took 4 drops of organic iodine along with borax (1/8 tsp) in 1 liter of h2o and my challenge lessened in 24 hours. All the info and how to from Earth Clinic. Iodine is very inexpensive and I am now taking daily with my other nutrients (spirulina + green drink, vit D, powdered C, Cod Liver oil, pro-biotics and Brewers Yeast)
I was amazed at the difference in taking the iodine in just 24 hours...it was the right diagnosis.

Long story short, I had half my thyroid taken out because of a legion( turned out to be benign), and i instantly became hypo-thyroid, many symptoms, but my dr said my bloodwork was normal and refused to prescribe thyroid replacement. After I gained ab out 50 lbs, and was terribly fatigued, I begged, and finallly got Armour thyroid. After 6 months of playing around with different dosages, I discovered the website JCROW.com . Lots of info on iodine there. I ordered some Lugols iodine, and it worked so much better than the pharmeceuticals it was unbelievable. That was about 10 years ago i think, and to this day I still take lugols, not every day but almost. When I forget, I notice, I get symptoms from gaining weight, tiredness, and brain fog to name a few. (I also have lyme, but thats a different program : ) . There is totally something to the iodine deficiency epidemic in the US and around the world. Flouride also causes thyroid cancer and iodine helps remove it along with other heavy metals. Gives you a nice boost of energy too.
I am not a doctor, these are my oinions only. Take supplements at your own risk, yada yada yada. You know the story. This is what I do and I am not telling anyone they shoud do this Only that it works for me. : )

W1indmill, spirulina is strong, but worth trying to find a way to somehow take it. Consider putting it in fresh fruit juice, like apple juice. Or if you do green smoothies, it can go in there too. I had a friend who did a sort of fast, drinking Stanley Burroughs master cleanser (homemade organic lemonade with maple syrup and cayenne pepper) -- she put spirulina in it, and said she was never hungry. I sat next to her at a weekend class, and she would just take an occasional sip of it from her water bottle. As HORIZONS, Conk and Maia said, sprulina has a lot of protein. :)

PS. The kombu/ginger preserve I was talking about is commercially prepared, by an Italian company called (in translation) The Window Open to the Sky.

I have been into iodine for about 6 years now. I am seeing a lot of what I consider mis-information on iodine in this thread... yes, starchild, Crows' is a good site, but their product is too costly and really a rip off. There is a significant learning curve to use iodine and to recommend it. You need to know the facts.
I envite you all to my blog www.HealthSalon.org (http://www.HealthSalon.org) and search iodine there. Many articles will come up including info on dosage and where to purchase.
For those who use seaweed, its probably Ok for those who really have no iodine based health issues, but if you are dealing with cancer or other iodine based diseases better to use lugols or nascient iodine. Never consume regular drug store providine iodine, Its toxic.
Also those using seaweed products... better make sure you have a good source, with Fukashima and all.

Hello Folks. I am reading through this thread. My wife is 42 years old and has Hypothyroidism. The doctor has her on medication and iron pills. Her mensteral cycle is every two weeks, has been for 6-9 months. She gets very fatigued. When she was diagnosted I suggest to her that we research alternative treatment, but kinda follows what the doctor says. I will present these ideas in the thread to her to see if see what you thinks. Thank you for the psoting.

Funny, cause I was just writing a little piece on this topic. I added a few bits that I learned here.
Thoughts on Radiation
There is so much to know and to think about with all the contaminants, radiation, pesticides, deterioration and toxins in our environment. It would take a book to fully discuss the different daily requirements and dosages. Still, just because I am, and I know that many others are worrying about radiation and chemtrail fallout, I decided to do something proactive and at least make a list of all the things I know about that can help to keep us healthy and toxin free. So, if you are actually sick and suspecting radiation poisoning or toxic reaction to chemtrails, please investigate more fully the alternatives that I present here.
It is vital to stay out of fear. Fear and anxiety will drastically reduce the capability of your natural immune system. There is a great deal of fear mongering and disinformation being disseminated in the mainstream, so discernment and a big helping of positive attitude are heartily prescribed. Let me even go so far as to say that products and availability are disturbingly manipulated. Many natural, life-giving substances are disappearing from our food, or at least our price range. At the same time, many unnatural substances are finding their way into our bloodstreams – often without our conscious consent. For the most part, we don’t really know the extent, but we can be pretty sure that we have all been exposed to some level of radiation, and no sense fooling around – it is cumulative. For myself, until I know otherwise, I’m going with an ounce of prevention.
Another basic rule of thumb is: alkalinize, alkalinize, alkalinize. Most of us are too acidic – it’s just life. But pathogens love an acidic atmosphere. So, here’s that old adage: eat a balanced diet. However, I’m not talking about food groups. If you really want to get serious about your pH, buy some litmus paper and pee on it first thing in the morning. Why not? It’s good information. Anyway, part of your happy , healthy morning cocktail might be a teaspoon of baking soda. Yes, sodium bicarbonate is an alkalinizing agent and will protect your kidneys from the damaging effects of uranium. Another way to do this is to drink about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a bit of water, first thing on an empty stomach. If it tastes good, you really needed it.
Iodine
One of the main risks during radiation contamination is thyroid disease. It is important to understand that sufficient levels of iodine 127 will prevent the thyroid from absorbing radioactive iodine 131. Bromide and Flouride will also displace your healthy, essential iodine levels. Radiation aside, iodine’s availability in our soil and foods has decreased over the last century. For healthy bodies and minds, strong immune systems and sharp brain activity, supplementation is recommended. While there are other substances to worry about besides iodine, it is usually the first consideration when talking about radiation sickness. The thyroid is dependent upon iodine for healthy functioning and most people are significantly deficient. Some say that Nascent Iodine is more easily absorbed than Lugol’s. You may want to choose according to availability. Also consider potassium iodine, which comes in solid form. Remember that you can overdo it. I find it can be confusing to decide on dosage, when you might be talking tablets, capsules, dropperfuls, miligrams, etc. Also, the diet, water source, environment, age and genetics can play a role in fluctuating iodine levels. With the certainty of at least some radiation getting into our system, even more variables need to be considered. An easy way to test levels of deficiency is to rub a drop of iodine into the soft tissue on the inner thigh, wrist or underarm. If it disappears, your body is readily absorbing it. Give it 24 hours and if the stain remains, your body has enough iodine for now. As a long term supplement, one drop per day would be a fairly safe dosage. For actual radiation sickness, doctors will administer a lot more. The thyroid is known as the Sergeant Major of the body. It regulates the metabolism by communicating with different systems in the body. If it’s not functioning well, the thinking is less clear, the energy is not up to par and often sleep patterns are disrupted. In extreme cases, hypothyroidism can affect the skin and hair, eyesight and weight management. Keep in mind that all of the blood in your body courses through the thyroid gland every 17 minutes. That’s one hard working little gland. So iodine, its source and dosage is a big deal. It is also important to note that iodine’s energizing effect can interfere with your sleep, so try to take it in the morning. Present day radiation issues aside, there are many environmental factors that challenge the body’s ability to receive sufficient workable iodine. Foods rich in this mineral are: ocean vegetation, radishes, asparagus, carrots, tomatoes, spinach, rhubarb, potatoes, peas, strawberries, mushrooms, lettuce, bananas, cabbage, egg yolk, and onions. We must bear in mind that our soils also suffer from depletion and contamination, so it is best not to depend solely on these foods.
Zeolite
Because of its unique molecular structure, zeolite acts like a filter, trapping heavy metals and toxins in the system, facilitating the flushing out of unwanted substances. There is a great deal of current information available on this mineral. Just be sure that you find it in its purest, most effective form, Clinoptilolite micronized powdered Zeolite. Different manufacturers will recommend different dosage, but most claim that it is quite safe with no known side effects. Do drink lots of water during a zeolite flush.
Magnesium chloride
Internally or externally this is a salt that is very helpful for detox. I have done the internal salt fast. You might think that drinking salt water will make you bloat up. But in the right proportions, your body recognizes it as similar to blood and so does not absorb the salt. It’s an excellent flush that will root out toxins in the intestinal wall on its way through. Chase that with plenty more water. Magnesium chloride also comes in flake form that you can use in your bath. It is much like Epsom Salts, only more effective.
The Superfoods, Especially Spirulina/Chlorella/Algae
Anyone trying to get healthy, detox and build strong cells, will have to include some of the green algae, spirulina, chlorella and/or kelp superfoods in their diet. I have read that Klamath Falls has been tested and is not contaminated with radiation. Klamath Falls Lake holds a stash of highly nutritious and effective blue green algae. When I was post partem at 40, I started taking blue green algae and pretty soon friends wanted to know what I was taking. I went from listless and depressed to feeling full of life in a very short time. Spirulina and chlorella are also very valuable and a daily must. Spirulina is actually not an algae. It is a type of bacteria and is 70% protein. Touted as nature’s perfect food, spirulina contains chlorophyll and gets its energy from the sun. It’s nutritional values are mirad. For our purposes here, spirulina’s antioxidant properties make it a must for heavy metal detox. Just be sure you have a good clean source. This brings up the Catch 22 that arises because we need to fortify ourselves to deal with radiation from Japan, by consuming products that have often originated or become popular through their distribution from Japan. Dr. Mercola has recommended a safe source being harvested in southern India: http://products.mercola.com/spirublue/. Recommended daily dose for usage as a preventative is 3000 mg for adults and 500-1500 mg for children. For therapeutic treatment, 10,000 – 20,000 may be required.
Benzonite clay
Also known as Aztec clay, this substance is very effective when taken internally as a detox. It will attract fungus, candida and heavy metals and flush them out of the system. Jim Humble recommends one tablespoon with water in the morning and one at night. He also suggests that you can mix the clay with petroleum jelly as a salve for athlete’s foot and other fungal skin issues.
Apple pectin
After Chernobyl, a study done on children showed reduced radioactive caesium after administering apple pectin for a period of time. Now there are many products available for ingesting apple pectin – liquids, pills, etc. For myself and for now, I intend to continue eating an apple a day.
Glutathione
Glutathione is a complex protein that is produced naturally in the body, less and less after age 40. You can’t just buy some and up your levels, although it is possible to get injections for extreme cases. It requires good dietary choices, combined for optimum absorption. It is an antioxidant that boosts the immune system and helps to detox pollutants. Foods rich in glutathione: avocado, asparagus, broccoli, garlic, spinach, tomatoes, turmeric, unprocessed meats.
L cysteine
L cysteine aids in the production of glutathione. Used for recovery in burn units, it helps in the production of collagen, needed for healthy skin. It destroys free radicals and can be helpful in radiation detox. It’s also recommended for rheumatoid arthritis.
Rosemary
In a recent study, Spanish scientists reported that nothing fights cell damage from radiation better than rosemary. When I was on Maui I had the wonderful opportunity to pick some fresh, sticky rosemary and make rosemary oil. It is very rejuvenating for the hair and skin, often used for sun damage. It also tastes great on roasted veggies or perhaps a rack of lamb. Rosemary tinctures are easy to find and afford, and essences are also available. This is a versatile herb. Try throwing a few sprigs of fresh rosemary in your hot salt bath, because it’s exotic and you deserve it.
Miso
A tried and true remedy and preventative used for many years in Japan. I read a discussion on dosage and surmised that a nice bowl of miso soup once a week would be helpful. A 25-year study done in Japan showed that the non-miso crowd had a 50% greater instance of cancer. If you want to go big, try spreading a thin layer on toast with some tahini… an old favorite.
Mushrooms
Medicinal mushrooms are perhaps the most exciting and newest frontier in the field of natural medicine. I have read about many studies in progress and many claims about their properties. I think it is evident by their behavior in nature that they are a strong breed. I wanted to learn why so many are saying that medicinal mushrooms are useful against radiation poisoning. They offer strong fortification to the immune system. They have anti-tumor properties. Reishi and Cordyceps mushrooms in particular protect tissues from oxidation and inflammation. Other useful species include Agaricus, Maitake and Turkey Tail. ****ake mushrooms are more widely known and, in my view, hugely underrated. An acquired taste perhaps, I find them absolutely delicious. These others though, I think not so much. Better to get them in the form of capsules, tablets and extracts. There are differing opinions on dosage, but there is concensus – shrooms rock!

Frankincense oil
Taking your medicine could be worse than this. Frankincense has properties that offer protection. Using a diffuser, there are those who will burn frankincense oil to protect the air in their immediate environment. Applying the oil directly on the body, especially chakra centers, will protect the body, enhance the immune system and repel radiation and EMFs. When I lived in India, we would put chunks of frankincense resin in a candle holder and light it with a match. It was a magical ritual, going from room to room and trailing wisps of fragrant smoke behind me. This was said to ward off evil, which may be true. It also did a great job on the mosquitoes.
Rotate your cleanses
I have learned that it is not helpful to load your system with too much at once. There are many good reasons not to take all of the supplements all of the time. Monitoring your reaction is a good reason all on its own. It’s great to have them on the shelf, or at least know where they are – Mother Nature’s little helpers. Next, enlist your intuition. When in doubt, I like to do a little dowsing trick that I learned. Stand comfortably with feet shoulder width, knees unlocked. Hold the bottle/substance over your heart. If your body sways forward, it is in agreement. If you sense a backward movement, this is not the time.

If you're looking for some zeolite, I'd recommend HealthForce's ZeoForce (http://www.healthforce.com/shop?page=shop.product_details&flypage=garden_flypage.tpl&product_id=70&category_id=4&keyword=zeo). I've not found anything close on price, and I trust the quality of their products to be top notch.
i take Iodoral myself, and it works wonderfully. and that's all i care about, really -- that it works. there was a time when i had the science on lock, and could tell you how n why etc...but one day it just stopped mattering to me.
i have something called mitochondrial disease. it effects my head n heart mainly. if i do everything right i'm basically a normal guy, but if i get sloppy i become a bed-ridden invalid. it's happened several times. my discipline isn't the best.
mitochondrial disease is a cellular disorder (well, everything is, really) -- the energy producing parts of the cell don't work properly, and at it's worst it can only be described as hell. if there is one good thing about it, it's that it's allowed me to basically become a human bullsh#t detector when it comes to the various supplements on the market, because, being so atrophied, my cells feel the effects (or lack thereof) of anything i put into my mouth *immediately*. i don't need to take the stuff for months to know if it's legit.
iodoral is legit. i felt it's positive effects immediately, especially in my heart. it's no coincidence that there's a heart failure drug based on iodine. iodine is not normally associated with heart health, and i believe that's a little secret that's deliberately been kept from us. i also find it a little fishy that iodine was removed from food in the 80's and replaced with *bromide*, which is a goitrogen and actually interferes with iodine utilization in the thyroid gland. there are mainstream doctors that have gone on record calling this a "conspiracy".

Connecting with Sauce, excellent point you make. In the days after Fukushima I scoured the city of Victoria, trying to stock up on uncontaminated iodine. The pharmacists had been told not to sell it. They told me this. Afraid they would run out I guess. Since then, more, new iodine products have appeared. Not sure I trust them and happy to know I can make my own.

I suspect that your wife will benefit greatly from bio-identical hormone replacement along with lugol's iodine therapy. You will have to find an MD or a naturopath that specializes in bio-identical hormone therapy. Meanwhile read Suzanne summers books "agless" and " Breakthrough" often found in library by interlibrary loan. I do both. My doc insistes that I also take ALA with the program.

A lot of foods are high in calcium phosphate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calcium_phosphate) David Jubb discusses this a lot. These get depositied in the body if too much in the diet.
Drinking distilled water (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?44959-Distilled-water-for-health-and-awakening...)will aid in removing NON-Organic minerals from the body. My thread on this has some links on this. I've stopped adding non-organic minerals to my water supply and recycle a lot of my fluids (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?1793-Taking-the-piss-Your-own-best-medicine...)which I cover in another thread... I drink ~4L a day of these two liquids and have been having mild detox reactions as things cleanse from my body. I cover it in these threads.
Making sure you have enough organic magnesium in your diet is essential too...
Good luck activating your light body :)
There is a good e-book link I posted in the distilled water thread (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?44959-Distilled-water-for-health-and-awakening...&p=492220&viewfull=1#post492220) which is about raising Mans consciousness...

Iodoral has both elemental iodine and potassium iodide, as does Lugol's Iodine. Both forms are useful, to different tissues in the body. I find that the pill form of Iodoral is more convenient
