Record-breaking snowstorm in New Zealand
The polar blast that closed roads and cut power to thousands of homes continues to hold a tight grip on the country with more heavy snow expected this evening - but the end is in sight.
The freezing weather sweeping up New Zealand has brought snow to winterless Northland, broken Auckland’s record coldest temperature, and caused chaos around the country.

The snow is mostly gone now in the south where we are but looks like there might be more coming. The North Islanders certainly had a new experience.

Hmmm! Daddy reminisces about previous Sidious nuggett posts and realises that Sidious nuggett has a thing for sheep!
I hope you didn't dispose of those velcro covered trousers nuggett head!
I will p.m you a joke lord of the sheep!
On a serious note, we had snow twice in Taranaki within 2 weeks (about 2.5 feet deep) first time it's snowed twice here since the early 70's, Sidious will be pleased to know it's lambing season here also!
You should pop over for a holiday your Lordship, it could be just what you need!

Ya might have to at the moment LS otherwise you may freeze you n-ts off!!!!!
Must say, it was a good runner re preparations. Had the wood fire and oven, plenty of food. All the necessities in case we lost power. I feel sorry for older people in our village who have been persuaded to get rid of there open fires and replaced them with heat pumps. Last time we had a really big snow, it affected the whole of the South Island and we lost power for about a week. The old folks had to be shifted into the local hall to keep them warm. I travelled to Christchurch at that time to catch a plane to Australia. All the roads were closed but we went anyway. It was like driving through a disaster zone. abandoned vehicles everywhere and people lined up at gas stations waiting to fill gas bottles. We tucked ourselves in behind some big trucks and had us a convoy!!! Bit hairy at times, but we got there.
