Experts Release ET Invasion Scenarios

We've all heard of the ravaged rain forests and the plight of the polar bear. But as far as reasons for saving the planet go, the one offered by scientists Thursday is truly out of this world.

A team of American researchers have produced a range of scenarios in which aliens could attack the earth, and curiously, one revolves around climate change.

They speculate that extraterrestrial environmentalists could be so appalled by our planet-polluting ways that they view us as a threat to the intergalactic ecosystem and decide to destroy us.

The thought-provoking scenario is one of many envisaged in a joint study by Penn State and the NASA Planetary Science Division, entitled "Would Contact with Extraterrestrials Benefit or Harm Humanity? A Scenario Analysis."

It divides projected close encounters into "neutral," those that cause mankind "unintentional harm" and, more worryingly, those in which aliens do us "intentional harm."

"ETI could attack and kill us, enslave us, or potentially even eat us. ETI could attack us out of selfishness or out of a more altruistic desire to protect the galaxy from us. We might be a threat to the galaxy just as we are a threat to our home planet," it warns.

One such scenario is the stuff of many a Hollywood blockbuster, a "standard fight-to-win conflict: a war of the worlds." But another might resonate more with fans of Al Gore's documentary film "An Inconvenient truth."

It speculates that aliens, worried we might inflict the damage done to our own planet on others, might "seek to preemptively destroy our civilization in order to protect other civilizations from us."

"Humanity may just now be entering the period in which its rapid civilizational expansion could be detected by an ETI because our expansion is changing the composition of Earth's atmosphere (e.g. via greenhouse gas
emissions), which therefore changes the spectral signature of Earth," the study says.

"While it is difficult to estimate the likelihood of this scenario, it should at a minimum give us pause as we evaluate our expansive tendencies."

But before we brace ourselves for alien annihilation, the report suggests things could turn in humanity's favor.

"As we continue the search for extraterrestrials into the future, perhaps our thinking about the different modes of contact will help human civilization to avoid collapse and achieve long-term survival," it suggests.

Good post they just aired the TV show last week I believe, forget the title but it was hosted by a well known Latina actress. It goes hand-in-hand with all the other alien invasion shows/movies. Whatever happened to the good ones like E.T.???

Why the heck is NASA studying alien invasion scenarios?
You may have seen the headline on the Drudge Report during the last couple of days, right there in bold at the top right:

NASA REPORT: Aliens may destroy humanity to protect other civilisations, say scientists

Well, that’s pretty startling. Drudge links to a story in The Guardian that suggests our rising greenhouse gas levels could signal a warning to extraterrestrials about our species. At first blush one wonders why NASA is spending money to study such things when it’s saying its budget is strapped.

The paper has also been seized upon by climate skeptics, who argue this highlights the craziness of NASA in particular, and climate science in general.

There’s only one problem with these critiques: It’s not a NASA study. The paper in Acta Astronautica (see abstract) is written by three scientists, one of whom, Shawn Goldman, is a postdoc at NASA headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Here’s Goldman’s explanation:

So here’s the deal, folks. Yes, I work at NASA. It’s also true that I work at NASA Headquarters. But I am not a civil servant… just a lowly postdoc. More importantly, this paper has nothing to do with my work there. I wasn’t funded for it, nor did I spend any of my time at work or any resources provided to me by NASA to participate in this effort.

There are at least a hundred more important and urgent things to be done on any given work day than speculate on the different scenarios for contact with alien civilizations… However, in my free time (what precious little I have), I didn’t mind working on stuff like this every once in a while. Why? Well, because I’m a geek and stuff like this is fun to think about.

Unfortunately, there is not enough time for fun. Indeed, I felt guilty at times because this has led to a lack of effort on my part in my interactions with Seth and Jacob. Beyond adding some comments here or there, I did very little for the paper.

But I do admit to making a horrible mistake. It was an honest one, and a naive one… but it was a mistake nonetheless. I should not have listed my affiliation as “NASA Headquarters.” I did so because that is my current academic affiliation. But when I did so I did not realize the full implications that has.

Goldman is smart enough to realize that it’s hard to put the genie back into the bottle when something’s released on the Internet, but this is what it is. A non-story. It’s some geeks putting down some reasoned thoughts about what aliens might do if they exist and stop to observe Earth and its inhabitants.

It should not diminish the credibility of NASA but alas in some peoples’ eyes it will.

All of the above is disinfo IMHO. Benevolent ET's are in our skies, some cloaked some aren't if you know what your looking for, waiting for one thing to happen and right before "it" happens they will appear and maybe just maybe help those who follows the law of creation. Now what the "it" might be is for us to figure out. The creator of us knows who is who and no matter how many bunkers are built and no matter how many boats you see on fear mongering movies saving the day if your actions aren't of the light then you won't be allowed on planet earth after the cleansing. The actions of the dark side of humanity will not be tolerated no longer on planet earth and after the cleansing of the planet and it will be seeded with beings who are spiritually advanced who will ensure that mother earth will stay a 5-D "heaven" type planet following the laws of creation and God. The rest will reincarnate on other 3-D planets to continue in soul growth until they reach a level where they can advance to join other beings on 5-D planets. Now do I know for certain this is how it's going to play out? no I don't but I do believe in my heart that something like what I just stated is the way it going to play out. Now why all the fear of "aliens" and them coming to attack us? Why all the bunker building why all the talk about if aliens attack ? Yes maybe they know who is out their really monitoring us and have been since the days of long ago. Could it be the group of lighted ones who spoke with Eisenhower back in the 50's who were rejected because they spoke of putting the bombs away and getting into spirituality instead? For those who believe in the bible look at this one verse Matthew 5:5 and think about what it says --Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. So if the creator is going to put the earth in our hands we better be meek and spiritually based and not because we have to it will be because WE WANT TO.

here we go again,lets demonise ET yet again,how come every scenario we hear about is always ET`s are gonna do this or that to us and all with negative connotations! apart from people on this and similar forums surely there are folks out there who dont buy straight into this bad guy ET cr.p everytime it rears its head. the game plan is just so obvious,lets give them a bad rap then when they do appear and say "we come in peace" the majority of sheeple will shoot first then poke them with a stick afterwards. well Mr powers that be your stinking plan aint gonna work this time cos we all want a better world than the one we`ve got now.

LOL, if the ET's are coming to rid us of all our governments and the system in place...how can we offer our assistance to them on this noble endeavor of theirs?

Aliens like us just like some humans like animals and become vets...the one's to worry about are already on Earth, and the one's here to help...are already on Earth.
