FYI:

The US Office of Naval Research has successfully tested a new type of high density substance for use in missiles with the ability to drastically increase their impact.

The new type of explosive material tested on Friday mixes metals and polymers -- oxidizers -- to create a chemical explosion on impact, is as strong as aluminum and is as dense as steel, but is "less likely to kill innocent bystanders," the state-run BBC quoted US Navy scientists as saying.

High-Density Reactive Materials (HDRM) combine and explode only when the projectile hits the target, and are very durable, significantly enhancing the explosive effect, which increases the chances of a "catastrophic kill," according to the military scientists.

Clifford Bedford, a researcher involved in the development of the new material, said, "In the case of a steel missile you explosively launch it, it goes through the target and all the kinetic energy is dissipated into the target."

"With the reactive material missile, you have the same explosive launch -- however, it disintegrates within the target and liberates chemical energy, and this chemical and kinetic energy combined gives you the enhanced effect," he added.

The scientists who worked on the project say the development of the new material has been in process for more than five years.

Dr Bedford stated, "In the existing scenarios we have now, we essentially fire twice, look, and fire again because we don't have a great deal of time to hit that missile -- and that's because with the steel fragments in current warheads, you can't really tell if you've hit the target or not.

"Hopefully, with the HDRM reactive warhead, we fire once, look and can determine a catastrophic kill. We still have the option for a second fire. But it saves a great deal of cost if you can take out the target with one missile versus three."

I wonder if they'll be using it on American citizens when the time comes...? I imagine they'll be testing in the Middle East first....so we, Americans can see what it does to devastate those "enemies"....
What do you think is going through the minds of these mad-scientists when they come up with new ways to murder people? Are they really so proud of their accomplishments? I always said that any idiot can kill....When they see what their creations can do to human life, isn't there a niggling feeling of guilt? Some people might argue that it's okay because they were just the enemy, and they deserved it. (Yay! Go USA!) That kind of thinking comes from not meeting or getting to know these people; just seeing them as the faceless enemy. I imagine it's easy to kill someone when you don't consider them human....
I'm not impressed with any new war machines; or bombs; or chemical, nuclear or biological weapons inside those bombs.... It's wasted resources and money that could have been used to create that Paradise that we all missed while we were warring....

how can those people not feel disgusted at themselves to call a fellow human an enemy, put so much time and effort into disgusting thing that kill others, rather than reaching out, or spending all that money feeding the hungry right next door to themselves!

anyway am reading some predictions from different sources and quite a bit of them talk about great weapons being made, but the maker will be the first to be blown up with them......

away from that the US has a history of testing stuff on its own people from behind their back and only telling them about it like 5-10 years later.

I hope those people wake up soon, because existing just to destroy when you can create is a pathetic sad way of living.

Excellent!
We have hunger, disease, homelessness and the rest.
Thank god we have better weapons to protect it all.

Simply a case of the Insane producing more insanity.

Sadly, they only destroy themselves from within.

The horror is that it is usually the innocent that truly suffer from this insanity.

But, it is said that, Ultimately, the Meek shall inherit the Earth.

In this I take some minor comfort.

This thread brings to mind my brief time spent in the Australian military. There was a sort of a mini arms expo at the base where I was stationed, and a few of us ambled along for a look. I was all of seventeen at the time, and extremely naive of all weapons systems. We came across a cutaway of a large bomb, inside of which were hundreds, if not thousands, of small finned darts. I asked someone what they were, and what purpose they served (I did say naive), and was told they were nothing more than shrapnel to increase the kill rate. This turned my stomach! Honestly, I could have wept.

I was out within six months.

As for the mongrels who develop these abominations, I won't even go there.

The thing I am most proud of after my army time is that I never pointed a loaded weapon at anyone, except for blanks.
And no rude comments Tony, ya nugget. :p
