Okay, I live in Bordentown, NJ and I'm currently at work in Plainsboro. While I was sitting here, I started to notice my monitor shaking and then felt my chair moving. For maybe 5 to 6 seconds. I have just experienced my first real earthquake, stemming from a 5.8 quake in Virginia. They even felt it in NY.

The times they are a changing.

We felt it in Northern Ontario too. They are checking some buildings for damage. Creighton fault line?

It was felt so widely because it was so shallow.

Actually, having read what I have written, that is possibly incorrect. Being here in the South Island New Zealand, four hours south of Christchurch, we have had our share of earthquakes, but we have only felt the big ones and they did no damage here.

Would like someone who knows more about earthquakes to comment on this.

I was in New Hampshire, and it was so strong, we all left the building! That is a LONG way.
