The One

The Amazon is the mightiest river in the world, the lifeblood for whole civilizations and home to more than 5,000 different species of fish and more than 60,000 different species of plants that live on its banks. AMAZON will take audiences on a journey of discovery through the rivers wonders, inhabitants and remarkable healing powers. In addition to being a journey of discover, AMAZON is also a captivating story of two medicine men, from vastly different worlds, who share a common quest. The film follows tribal shaman Julio Mamani and American ethnobotanist Dr. Mark Plotkin on their search for the medicinal qualities of native plants. Here, Western medical science meets the myth and magic of Indian shamanism, a very real collaboration that may bring cures to diseases not yet conquered

Great movie. I just hope this quest doesn´t become an end for the forest.

Just finished watching this. Stunning footage. I had a real feeling of poignancy watching these indigenous peoples and wondering what will happen to them as 'civilization' creeps ever nearer. Shame about the intrusive music - the beauty and drama of the place speaks for itself and did not need any help. Thanks for posting yet another wonderful documentary.

- OMG - sorry - a bit off topic but that first bit in black and white reminded me of "Saturday morning pictures" when I was little. Anybody else remember that (all together now) .... "We are the boys and girls well known as ... we're minors of the ABC ......." - loved those days.... :)
Heard this today from somebody who comes from Peru ...... if you visit and want to see Machu Pichu you have to rest up for 24 hours on arrival to acclimatise to the height, otherwise you can get a heart attack ... :) I never knew that!

Not sure about the heart attack, might be pretty rare but it would thin the blood and what not i certainly needed a little oxygen to kick me along when i went to work high in the ande's at a minesite called Antimina.. we stayed in Warez on the way up for a night to aclimatise. Me being young went and drank that night :) certainly paid for it the next day travelling to 15000 feet by bus haha
I was only a few km's from machu pitchu but did not get to go.. but it was magical there anyway..
