A solid black cat crossed my path last night and I was just wondering if there
was any truth to the legend? Anyway who better to ask than my fellow Avalon
members.
Im glad to be back!

I truly don't think so , I have a black cat stray and have had here for 5 years, she crosses my path everyday, lays on my desk, whips my papers off the desk and unrolls paper towels on the floor when left alone for more than a day, her name is Orphy the orphan and she has a huge heart. You'll be fine jagman.

it's good luck, not bad luck. Having owned black cats, I can attest.

In the world of magic the real truth is hidden from the peoples. What is good is turned into bad, what is bad is turned into good.
Take for example the number 13. Quite a lucky number. Do they want you to have the benefits of the number 13. No Way. So it is turned into an unlucky number, to be feared etc.
Cats are not unlucky. Animals come to show us the way or to show us something. Maybe the cat showed up to stop you for a moment or divert you in another direction. Always say hi to the animals that come into your life. They were sent here to be our companions and friends.

It has been the black cats around here that have the bad luck - one of ours got sick and died and the other one got ran over b/c it was hiding in a wheel - both of them were young males - both of them lost their 9 lives right out of the gate.

Well how bizarre. I just had an encounter with what.. I don't know. I was walking my doggy (off leash) as I always do at around 9pm.. 30 mins ago. My doggy is the friendliest doggy in the world.. she is an English Chocolate Lab and almost One year old. She has a very bad habit of running up to people, wagging her tail and saying hello to everybody. Well, on my way back towards the house I saw a female cross my path and she sat herself down on the stone wall next to the Bayfront. We looked at each other and didn't say anything. Then I looked behind me to check on my doggy and my doggy she just stood there.. a good 20ft away from me on the same side of the street. The female asked me if I lived around here. I said no I don't live around here but I used to live here for 10 years. She then asked me if I was walking the streets alone and I said with my doggy. I called on my doggy to come to me but she would not. My doggie sensed something in this female that was "distasteful" and she crossed the other side of the road after letting out an ominous sound of dislike for this female. At that point I started walking away and I said to the female "Take Care" and she said "Oh, you take care" in a very negative tone. The moral of the story is anyone or anything can cross your path but it's up to you to discern the energy. Animals are highly psychic and I highly recommend getting yourself a dog or a cat for their psychic abilities.

Hi Jagman,
No truth whatsoever!
Depending on which culture you happen to find yourself, this can be a good omen, or a bad one, and it also depends on which direction the cat crosses your path, left to right, or vice versa. These myths, legends, or call them what you will, are a load of mumbo jumbo, whose only power lies in their ability to influence us. Their ultimate origin may be simply the paranoid human mind. A mature, discerning seeker of truth would pay no attention to any of them.
All the Best.

A mature discerning seeker of truth pays attention to everything. Believing in a superstition is much different than paying attention. Paying attention allows one to "notice" and so ask yourself.. what is it I am not noticing?

G'day Deedee,
You are right. My original post would have been best worded thus, A mature, discerning seeker of truth would not give creedence to any of them.
Also, please use the "Reply With Quote" function when quoting anothers post.

It has absolutely nothign to do with the color of you're cat mate. Black cat, white cat, it doesnt matter. That is just nonsense. Refer to the racism still going on today in regards to people with dark colored skin - then look at the black cat myth - see the link?
:( Kitteh's should be kept indoors if you live near a buisy road, or even a road that is used frequently. You shuld build a cat run - a fenced off area outside thats connected to the house via a cat door - with plenty of stuff for them to climb and make sure some of it is in the sun.
Alot of people will think im cruel for saying this - i know they should have more freedom than that. But when you get an animal like this its part of you're family - something you love and cherish and worry sick about when you dont see them for a while. I grew up in a nasty neigborhood. The kind where neigbors took pleasure in hurting other peoples animals if they "dare" wander into "their" yard. The kind that would rent possum traps, and once trapped they would kick the cage when screaming, while having a hose on it. I witnessed this as a child when looking thru the fence to see what all the comotion was. My parents called the police. They did nothing to help the poor cat. Needless to say i was distraught for a while.
Not to mention kids these days - I will never forget the day on the news where a 3 year old boy had a cat whom had just given birth to a litter of kittens. Their eyes wernt even open yet - The little **** threw them - one by one - into a fence. And even worse - the 3 kids, all under 16 in england whom caught a dog, coverd it in petrol then lit it when it was in a cage - and uploaded a video to youtube with them laughing and screaming in the background. Again - these kids recieved nothing but a slap on the wrist.
Just as i would impose restrictions on human children for their safety (as you do) - i do the same for my furry friends - as they do not have the law's or sympathy as a human does, and this enrages me greatly.

The problem with the west is that their religions, spiritual leaders and mysticism were destroyed or suppressed by "Christianity" (which I do not believe is now in its intended form). The eastern religions (except Christianity) and religions indigenous to North and South America are intact. But many of us lack sophistication because our esoteric knowledge is hidden from us and in the hands of those who would pervert it.
What the PTB left the europeans with was superstition to which we fall prey because our knowledge has been burned, buried and hidden in libraries to which we have no access.

Don't tell me these stories Tiga, I am trying to get the darkness in me under control.
I don't need things that make it stir like those abusive stories, I get ideas of what to do with the abusers.

Sorry Sid, i felt it necessary to point it out tho.
We get these animals as "pets" or Companions - and we realy do intend the best by letting them have the freedom to wander around and do what they want during the day. But giving them that freedom to run around can be their death senteance - as what seems to have happend in poor Horizions case.
If you're going to get a furry companion - treat them no different than you would a human child. And yes, i talk to my cat like a human, and wipe his arse with babywipes when needed too. lol.

Me too, Sid, me too.....
We keep ours indoors with only supervised visits to the outdoors. We have coyotes around here and our cats would be easy pickings. God forbid I ever catch someone abusing a child or an animal, it would not go well for them or me.........

I realize that the color of the cats had nothing to do with their deaths - and I don't believe in myths  - it just that my two favorite cats (black ones) both died in a row - it was strange and very unlucky for this to happen to both of them, one right after the other. I have had cats around all of my life, and we have had up to 12 at a time. We live out in the country on 30 acres and the highway is way off from the house. Our dog protects the cats from the coyotes coming around and it is a lot safer for them living here than in the city. I guess I should add that my wife's favorite yellow striped cat disappeared and was never seen again in the same time period as the black cats deaths - our three favorite cats all gone in a very short time - it was strange.

I'm not that superstitious anymore.. although I used to be.. my Mother made us touch wood if we dropped a knife... I outgrew those belief systems. The encounter I had yesterday was a little unnerving because I haven't met the likes of that kind of energy since I was living in Australia back in 1990 (I almost lost my life). Now, I am always in the right place at the right time and so I know that encounter I had was an initiation of sorts.. it's all about choice really.. to engage or not to engage.. I chose to leave with my doggie as she sat there, by herself, as I looked back and wondered to myself "Did she live around here and was she walking the streets alone"?

Hey DeeDee,
Energy is very real as you know. The evil eye is a real thing and it's about intent. Some people just get satisfaction causing pain, making others uncomfortable etc.. Just know that you are supremely powerful and take a deep breath and fill yourself with Universal love and push away any negative energy. Don't worry and it will stay gone. Oh, and bless your dog too!

I don't consider there to be an "evil eye" per se... but God does see everything. The negative energy my doggie felt was indeed very real and made her very uncomfortable. Again, my doggie has met all kinds of people who do indeed have their own "issues".. but this being was something else and my doggie has never ever acted the way she did toward anyone the way she did with this female. I have no fear and am not afraid of looking someone in the eye.. bare in mind though it was dark and I did not get a look into her eyes but only toward them. Thank you for your support.

And also another bizarre experience. I was staying at my ex-husband's house which I do occasionally. When I got back from walking the doggie they had both gone to bed (my ex and my Son). Well, at approximately 1.40am (4 hours later approximately) since walking my doggie... my Son awoke from a "nightmare" and screamed our Doggie's name... "Brandee".. Now, my Son has never ever done this before and he is 7 years old.. so is this co-incidence.. or is there something else going on?

It only means what you think it will. Unless a witch/warlock specifically put a curse upon you and used this as the catalyst (ha-ha) such an occurrence should not bring you bad luck. However, if you allow yourself to put negative thoughts toward this you will draw to you what you fear. I recommend you surround yourself in white light and thank the cat for its presence. Choose to view it that you have been blessed by the sighting of a mysterious and beautiful creature. No negativity can come from the intentions of gratitude. Hope this helps to remind you of your innate power, don't give it away easily.

Okay now this is strange.. My ex just called me to tell me to make sure all his doors are locked when I leave here because when he arose this morning the front door was wide open... What? WIDE OPEN! I know that is impossible because I check every door to make sure it is locked. Now even if a door was not locked the door would not be wide open.. but closed with door unlocked. Ex left early this morning and I just now got the chance to share with him my experience of last night.... The mystery continues...

Hmmm, it might be a coincidence, but if you hackles are up then take notice. Check the house for anything out of place that is either missing or not supposed to be there. Do a cleansing of whatever form you are comfortable with, and by all means bless the house, family and pets. Oh, and don't forget to look on the property of anything planted... again, only if you feel it is necessary.
Peace,
Serenity
