View Full Version : Healthy Teeth - Or How Toothpaste Causes Most Dental Problems

I ran into this info several years ago and have been brushing my teeth with Dr Bronners Peppermint Bar Soap ever since. My dental health has improved markedly since. My dentist has been amazed. (by the way, the right kind of soap is actually delicious)

Dear Government Executive and Employee: We can all stop spending billions for American dental work and research. Let me tell you why: I have learned the real causes of dental cavities and gum infection. People, including you, will now be able to take care of their own dentistry with insignificant cost, and end with perfect teeth. Cavities and gum infections are ended! A great amount of REPUTABLE DENTAL RESEARCH proves the following:
1. Tooth cavities will be ended simply by rinsing acids off the teeth. ACIDS ALONE EAT THE ENAMEL. There would be no cavities in the world if all people rinsed acids from their teeth promptly. Just sip water, milk or other liquid while eating. Water reacts with acids.
2. Foods and drinks, other than those containing acids, have no action on tooth enamel. SUGARS HAVE NO ACTION ON THE ENAMEL.
3. Bacteria cannot damage the enamel (calcium hydroxy phosphate). There is no such thing as decay of the enamel since bacteria require carbon and hydrogen to live. Billions of human and animal remains show teeth and bones are resistant to earth-bound organisms.
4. Teeth reenamalize when clean. TO MAKE TEETH CLEAN ONE BRUSHES WITH ANY BAR SOAP. ( There are good toothpastes at the health food stores. Check the ingredients before buying. Don't get anything with glycerine in it.) Soap washes off in just 2 rinses. What about toothpastes? Glycerine in all tooth pastes is so sticky that it takes 27 washes to get it off. Teeth brushed with any toothpaste are coated with a film and CANNOT PROPERLY REENAMELIZE.
5. Taking calcium and phosphate in the diet results in reenamelization of the teeth, but only when they are clean. Bar soap does a perfect job in cleaning the surface. The enamel thickens and becomes less sensitive. Adenosine diphosphatase furnishes phosphate to teeth.
6. Gums are disinfected by brushing with any bar soap. Not only bacteria and viruses are destroyed promptly by small amounts of soap in water, but also white flies and aphids. Gardeners: Spray 1 tsp of dishwashing soap in 1 gallon of water to kill white flies and aphids.
7. Plaque, a poorly formed crystal stuck to the bottom of the enamel, is prevented and eventually removed by brushing with bar soap. Dental procedures to get the badly formed crystals off dig holes through the enamel. These cavities catch food and cause gum infection.
8. Prevention of plaque retards gum pockets. Gum pockets are formed as the plaque pushes the gums away from the teeth. Gum pockets, from 1 to 8 mm deep, are also formed by FLUORIDE, which severs the protein molecules adhering the gums to the teeth. SOAP PREVENTS GINGIVITIS caused by bacteria which is lodged in the gum pockets.
9. VITAMIN C AND PHOSPHATE help knit the gums back to the teeth. Pressing against the gums with fingers forces adhesive materials from the gums onto the teeth, which helps the process. Abscesses can be offset by holding Cepacol (14% alcohol) in the mouth 5 minutes.
10. Receding gum surgery will end when the gum pockets cease. The very mention of the procedure, which involves transferring flesh from the roof of the mouth to the excised area of the gums, is a heinous and useless procedure which ought to pass into oblivion.
11. Removal of flouride from drinking water, pastes or gels saves the enzyme adenosine diphosphatase so it can deliver phosphate to calcium at the tooth surface, resulting in a beautiful, semi-flexible enamel.
12. As stated above, the gums can be reconnected to the teeth by taking vitamin C (ascorbic acid) (1 tsp) with Arm and Hammer baking soda (1/2 tsp) in 1 inch of water, letting it fizz and then diluting to 1/2 to 1 cup with water, then drinking. The resulting SODIUM ASCORBATE is non-acid, very pure and a thousand times more soluble than vitamin C. Sodium ascorbate is more reactive than ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) in building connective tissue and antibody structures and more effective in killing some viruses and bacteria.
13. Receding gums and plaque are ended when soap is used for brushing and vitamin C is taken daily in the form just mentioned.
14. 30% of American youths ages 8-10 have no cavities. 100% of Ugandan youths ages 6-10 have no cavities. What does this tell us?
15. The reason Ugandan youths have 3 times better teeth than American youths is because they do not consume as many acid foods, have no fluoride in their drinking water, have regular meals rather than sipping acid drinks all day, have more calcium and phosphate in their diet, and have fewer dentists to work on their teeth.
16. Dental literature says 42% of Americans over 65 have no natural teeth, while 25% of those over 43 have none.
17. Dental literature says Americans age 43 average 32 cavities, those age 17 have 13 cavities, blacks and poverty stricken (without calcium and phosphate) have twice this and the native Americans have four times this amount. The Native American plight can be blamed on their poor nutrition, excessive fluoridation, and free but improper dental care.
18. If fluoridation were effective in preventing cavities, Native Americans would have the least cavities. They have had forced fluoridation for approximately 62 years.
19. Fluoride in water at 1 part per million INCREASED tooth cavities in four large reliable studies (7%, 22%, 45% and 10%, averaging 21%). The reason far these increases has to do with the fact that adenosine diphosphatase is destroyed by fluoride and CALCIUM FLUORIDE which slips into the enamel, is alien to the tooth composite and makes the enamel weak, brittle and discolored.
20. The health of American teeth will increase to be very nearly perfect if the regimen of water rinsing, soap brushing and taking calcium, phosphate and vitamin C in the diet is implemented.
21. Fortunately, we now know the current teeth perfecting protocol of dentistry with fluoridation is flawed. If the early estimates of 80% tooth improvement in childrens' teeth by age 13 were true, each American would now have less than one cavity. That is far from true. The teeth in America are in a sorry state, and at the present time are getting worse.
22. Numerous top scientists over the past 60 years have discarded the theory that fluoride helps teeth, or is a nutrient helpful to man.
23. To avoid fluoride is to prevent more than 114 ailments listed with references in a book "Good Teeth Birth to Death" by Gerard F. Judd, Ph.D.. These 114 medical side effects extend all the way from cancer down to headaches caused by 1 ppm fluoride in the water. Thirteen of these side effects are proved by a double blind study on 60 patients by 12 physicians, 1 pharmacist and 1 attorney.
24. The mechanism for destruction of enzymes by fluoride has been proven by x-ray studies. Hydrogen bonds are broken by fluoride.
25. Fluoride is the smallest negative particle on the face of the earth. Since the fluoride particles are so small and so intensely negative, they connect with the hydrogen bonds holding the enzyme coils in place and ruin every enzyme molecule at very low concentration, around 1-3 ppm. These enzymes are often 3,000 or more times the small size of the fluoride. The effect is ruinous.
26. To avoid fluoride is to prevent the destruction of 83 enzymes listed with references in Good Teeth, Birth to Death, by Gerard F. Judd, Ph.D.. Fluoride is a severe biological poison. Being intensely negative, it unlatches positive hydrogen bonds in enzymes AND proteins.
27. It is fortunate we have learned fluoride is a nerve poison. Fluoride causes cavities. There is not the slightest doubt.
28. Methylmercury formed from amalgams in the body is deadly. It causes brain disease. Fillings made of quartzite and epoxy are a safe substitute.
29. Fluoride harms the economy by making people purchase other than city water to avoid it. It also harms the economy by making people dependent on undependable professions that know nothing about it. Ignorance about fluoride and what it does is worldwide.
30. Keep the teeth moist. Teeth that are dry crack. If you chew ice, teeth may crumble. Teeth do have a breaking strength.
31. LOOK IN YOUR MOUTH. Tell the dentist(s) what you want done and get several bids for examination and work. Save your fortunes. We now know we can cancel the green light given by Harry Truman with the help of Congress to subsidize dentistry. Billions of dollars being wasted in this regard (Public Law 755, June 24, 1948) can now be returned to the taxpayers.
I hope you will put this information in the hands of your Congress persons so they and we may alert the newspapers, radio and TV stations, magazines, and all other news media as well as their friends, families, and associates about this giant leap in dental technology.
I ask for your feedback on this letter and I would also like you to ask for feedback from the ones you contact. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
Respectfully yours, Gerard F. Judd, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus, Chemistry
ADDRESSEE: Please mail a copy of this letter to your Congressperson, asking what they are going to do about this terrible incompetence and waste in dentistry and government spending. Thanking you, I am Gerard F. Judd.

According to Freakonomics:[4]
“ Listerine, for instance, was invented in the nineteenth century as powerful surgical antiseptic. It was later sold, in distilled form, as both a floor cleaner and a cure for gonorrhea. But it wasn't a runaway success until the 1920s, when it was pitched as a solution for "chronic halitosis"— a then obscure medical term for bad breath. Listerine's new ads featured forlorn young women and men, eager for marriage but turned off by their mate's rotten breath. "Can I be happy with him in spite of that?" one maiden asked herself. Until that time, bad breath was not conventionally considered such a catastrophe. But Listerine changed that. As the advertising scholar James B. Twitchell writes, "Listerine did not make mouthwash as much as it made halitosis." In just seven years, the company's revenues rose from $115,000 to more than $8 million.

I have 0 cavaties.
The only 4 teeth i have had removed are my wisdom teeth, which were removed becuase they were growign inward - pushing the rest of my teeth in on eachother.
1 of my front teeth will probably have to be removed - but this is a result of being punched in the face and the tooth being moved/bloodflow to it cut.
I drunk milk by the bottle as a kid. My parents were strict as in regards to me brushing my teeth every night - which i still do today.
If you want to have perfect teeth. Simply brush every night. Dont even need flouride toothpaste, that stuff's crap anyway. Here's the stuff i used, since everyone is doing a toothpaste show and tell :P http://www.thursdayplantation.com/products/Thursday-Plantation/Oral-Care#Tea-Tree-Toothpaste
You'd probably vomit if you (or we coudl get some accurate numbers) realised how many people have extreamly poor oral hygene. IE only brush their teeth as part of getting ready for special occasions, etc.

Dr. Weston Price said we don't need to brush our teeth if we eat as we should. Native cultures don't brush and they have perfect teeth.
Anyone ever try soap shreads? Just little bits of dried olive oil and peppermint. Cleans well, but tastes a little funky.
Listerine kills beneficial bacteria in the mouth. Not suitable for good oral health, no.

No matter how much I took care of my teeth, I still had problems. So, what I did was I stopped using tooth pastes of any kind, even the ones that claimed to use natural ingredients. For years now, I've been using Baking Soda and it seems better for me. Cleans better, too....
Thanks for sharing this, TAT....

I have found most of my toothaches are caused by imbalances in my meridian system. According to Chinese medicine, we have a meridian attached to each tooth root.
But if your tooth ache is caused by infection try swishing with MMS and then swallowing a solution made with 3 drops each hour.(as recommended by Jim Humble... see http://JimHumble.biz) This should correct anything in your mouth within 1 to 3 days.

So a while ago, my friend told me you shouldn't actually use anything abrasive, so I quit the baking soda.
I use Cal Ben bar soap. My teeth are whiter and it doesn't really taste that bad. A little soapy.
Dr. Bronners is all great stuff in my book. We used the baby mild soap until I was introduced to Cal Ben. I really, really like it. Not that I can pinpoint exactly why. :)

G'day All,
Here's my brand, and I have been using if for decades. I have had no dental work in 35 years, although I may be in need of an extraction some time soon. That's OK, as I see no sense in taking a showroom condition set of pearly whites to the grave!

I agree with the baking soda group - been using it for 6 months now. When I quit regular toothpaste - my family thought I was crazy for throwing out the Crest because it's the best one, right? ...ahh, advertising... I've insisted on either Tom's Toothpaste - fennel is the tastiest - or plain baking soda. I drink two cups of coffee every morning however you'd never know it by looking at my teeth.
Is anyone on here old enough to remember Omni Magazine? A long, long time ago (in a galaxy far far away) they ran a story and wanted contributions that sounded true which you might hear at a cocktail party. One of the submissions was, "did you know that toothpaste is mostly sugar?" and I thought, hmmm, what made them pick THAT to satirize? Anyway it's always stuck in my head along with the other flotsom and when I began my "healthy kick" waay back when the first thing I remembered was that toothpaste quip, did my research and threw them all in the trash.
And I agree with Cliff High that September is going to kick our butts - exciting times we live in (chosen to live in).
Peace Out! Elaine

Thanks for this info...I found it really interesting! Definitely resonates. I haven't used fluoride for years, but my natural toothpaste has glycerine in it. I didn't realize that glycerine forms a barrier that stops our teeth from being able to repair themselves. I just tried Dr. Bronner's rose soap (I had no peppermint on hand).....oh la la...seriously hardcore! I think I probably used a bit too much...I was foaming at the mouth..felt like a naughty child in the cartoons!! I'll try the peppermint one...and use less...maybe the experience will improve!
Thanks

My wife and I have been using Tom's Toothpastes for several years now, fairly satisfied and needing no dental work during this time, but we have just recently switched to making our own. The reason: Tom's & other alternative products are just too damn expensive!! Our recipe is to mix baking soda, coconut oil (which is just the best thing on this planet!!), peppermint oil, and olive oil.
We also got tired of paying money so that we could slather chemicals in our armpits! We started making our own using this simple and cheap recipe:
Passionate Homemaking's homemade deodorant recipe :
5-6 Tbsp Coconut oil
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch (we used cornstarch)
1. Combine baking soda and arrowroot powder/cornstarch.
2. Cut coconut oil into the powder mixture with a fork or spoon until you reach deodorant consistency.
3. Scoop deodorant into an clean deodorant dispenser or small jar to apply with your fingers.
The stuff works great and it is very inexpensive!!

Just to let you know I have tried the soap bar (Wright's Coal Tar) and it cleaned my teeth really really well but blaaaagh - gurgle ..... I would stick with it if I could grow another couple of back teeth but ........ although it did clean my teeth the after taste didn't "feel" clean, know what I mean ..... ? I have also tried bicarb and found it an effective cleaner but ditto the after taste .... need something with ZING - maybe like toilet duck but less corrosive. Any ideas ? (I have a feeling that listerine and toilet duck are the same product ...)

This is a good interview with Robert Nara

Dr Robert O Nara DDS
LISTEN NOW
How to Become Dentally Self Sufficient
Simple, Easy Techniques to stay out of the Dentist office
Dentist and Author Dr. Nara says that the dental profession has the public pretty well boondoggled into thinking that we have to go to the dentist and get our teeth cleaned and checked every six months and we’ve been ‘conditionedto believe that somehow or other this has something to do with our having healthy teeth and gums.
Dr. Nara says "In my opinion the whole thing boils down to one simple fact: The dental establishment is scared to death that the public is going to realize that the entire profession has been making a living by repairing the results of a disease they could have been curing all along!"
Lots to talk about in this hour.

This toothpaste contains fluoride in it. In India they mention other ingredients except fluoride on cardboard packing of that (vicco vajradanti) tube. But on tube you will find all ingredients with additional one fluoride mentioned.
Non-fluoridated toothpaste available in market mentions 'non-fluoridated toothpaste' in the end of ingredient list. Dabour companies all toothpastes except one are non-fluoridated toothpaste and they mention properly 'Non-fluoridated toothpaste' in the end of the ingredient list.

Thanks kanishk, for the hint at flouride in the paste. Not good. :wacko:
Cannot tell you, as around here, i seem to only get "export packs" - the text on the tube says "see carton for formula", and there's nothing 'flour' to be found there...
Too bad, so i have to switch to Dabur, or just use the powder (which isn't always available here).
Have just sent an email to viccolabs for a clarifying statement regarding flouride in their products.

but, Vicco adds fluoride in 'Vajradanti Paste ' -- that is shown on tube but not on cardboard wrapping
is that same for 'Sugar-Free Vicco Vajradanti (SF)' tooth-paste, which you suggested ?
I have hte vicco in a tube and I think there is no flouride, I buy it off the webz :) (infact, I'm almost out, need a new order!)
it's listed as flouride free here:

Wow. Thanks dawn.
I have like 6 cavities right now. I started using toms a while ago to get away from the fluoride but I guess it's time for another change up.
Tks eaerth angel for the SLS tid bit. One more reason to throw it in the bin.
http://www.natural-health-information-centre.com/sodium-lauryl-sulfate.html
Both Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and its close relative Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are commonly used in many soaps, shampoos, detergents, toothpastes and other products that we expect to "foam up". Both chemicals are very effective foaming agents, chemically known as surfactants.
SLS and SLES are esters of Sulphuric acid - SLS is also known as "Sulfuric acid monododecyl ester sodium salt", however there are over 150 different names by which it is known - see them here. In fact, SLES is commonly contaminated with dioxane, a known carcinogen.
Although SLES is somewhat less irritating than Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, it cannot be metabolised by the liver and its effects are therefore much longer-lasting.
A report published in the Journal of The American College of Toxicology in 1983 showed that concentrations as low as 0.5% could cause irritation and concentrations of 10-30% caused skin corrosion and severe irritation. National Institutes of Health "Household Products Directory" of chemical ingredients lists over 80 products that contain sodium lauryl sulfate. Some soaps have concentrations of up to 30%, which the ACT report called "highly irritating and dangerous".
Shampoos are among the most frequently reported products to the FDA. Reports include eye irritation, scalp irritation, tangled hair, swelling of the hands, face and arms and split and fuzzy hair. The main cause of these problems is sodium lauryl sulfate.
Click here to learn of the possible health effects of SLS/SLES
So why is a dangerous chemical like sodium lauryl sulfate used in our soaps and shampoos?
The answer is simple - it is cheap. The sodium lauryl sulfate found in our soaps is exactly the same as you would find in a car wash or even a garage, where it is used to degrease car engines.
In the same way as it dissolves the grease on car engines, sodium lauryl sulfate also dissolves the oils on your skin, which can cause a drying effect. It is also well documented that it denatures skin proteins, which causes not only irritation, but also allows environmental contaminants easier access to the lower, sensitive layers of the skin.
Perhaps most worryingly, SLS is also absorbed into the body from skin application. Once it has been absorbed, one of the main effects of sodium lauryl sulfate is to mimic the activity of the hormone Oestrogen. This has many health implications and may be responsible for a variety of health problems from PMS and Menopausal symptoms to dropping male fertility and increasing female cancers such as breast cancer, where oestrogen levels are known to be involved.

Really effective ingredients I find for oral health are propolis and myrrh.
Has anyone tried 'oil pulling' ( see link) I have tried it a few times and It felt like it could be effective. A lot of people rave about this, as in it turned their total health around not just oral.

Default Re: Healthy Teeth- Or How Toothpaste Causes Most Dental Problems
Timely post The Abundant Traveller, Thank you - I have THE most awful toothache. Very unusal for me. I'm off to the dentist later today. With the tooth pain and the vivid dreams each night I am exhausted. I need to go on a retreat and soon.
PEACE & LOVE to you
I have found most of my toothaches are caused by imbalances in my meridian system.
Use an MMS solution in a water pik (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_irrigator), the pressure will get right to the difficult areas, and down between the teeth.
works incredibly well.
I've been using MMS for about a year now. My last dental checkup confirmed no cavities, and the dental hygienist says: " I see you took my advice and are using the fluoride mouthwash and toothpaste?" I just chuckled...
My gum line was so receded they would bleed when I brushed with toothpaste, but now my gums are healing and the readings a year ago had 7's in the back teeth, and now are 5's, and I smoke cigarettes and drink coffee.

Toilet duck?? really?? :tape2: This is a great thread, especially since I just visited a new dentist yesterday. It was absolutely TOO New Age. The hot rocks and lavender and face pack was really nice and I loved talking about my teeth for an hour, but I went to get my teeth fixed, paid money and left in the same condition. She is actually wonderful and any traumatized person with teeth and money would love her. I really appreciate the glycerin info. Vicco doesn't appear to have it, which is great. Sometimes I use that, sometimes I brush with hydrogen peroxide, sometimes baking soda and sometimes coconut oil. I do have some Dr. Bronner's, so I'll try that out. My Holistic dentist recommended that I get a water pik before I do anything else. So that's the next expenditure. Maybe I won't have to go back.

well i decided to give the bar soap a try......the one I had is cranberry all natural soap.....it didn't taste bad at all.......I was really concerned that it would be horrible but it was actually fine.......the weird thing is the other night I was brushing my teeth with Toms (before I learned about the SLS in it) and I said to my husband I dont know why but I feel like I need to keep my tongue away from the toothpaste like there is something in it that's bad for me....we assumed since it was in the Organic food area and said NO FLUORIDE that it must be good........anyway the soap was surprisingly not bad at all.

I cannot stress strongly enough, If one has a toothache..to use a waterpik and mms, as a combination.
Impossible to beat.
If one does not have anything but the mms, then use it with a brush.
I make a 4-5 drop mix, then put in about 3-4 oz (150ml) of non sweetened cranberry juice..and then brush with that. cleans the mouth, ends the toothache, and cleans the brush.
the finest solution I've ever found for 'taking' MMS, regarding the gag reflex, etc..is to mix it with non-sweetened cranberry juice. I've taken over 20 drops with only 4 oz of unsweetened cranberrry juice.

I have recently switched from toms tooth paste to a product called ORALIVE. It stresses the need for a healthy micro flora in the mouth and it uses different microbes to reset the oral bioterrain in the mouth. Here is what is in it; balancing paste made of live edible clays, superfoods, oxygenated essential oils, deep ocean trace minerals, ancient probiotic bacteria, elk antler velvet extract. No soaps or flouride. I bought it at ascendedhealth.com. It is kind of like brushing your teeth with nice flavored mud. Brings me back to my child hood when I use to eat sand. But the after affect is very good- minty and fresh.

I think the vitamin c in the cranberry juice disables the MMS action.....
I have a soap store close to home, they make hand made soap.
I always thought soap needed glycerine ??
Will go and see if they have homemade soap without it, I buy a peppermint soap that is really great, I will see if i can use that.
also,isn't MMS acid?
I had a bad breath episode that lasted a few weeks, so i decided to try the MMS cure. It seemed to me that I eroded some of the enamel doing this.
any reflections on this?
thanks for the great thread

I use Cal Ben bar soap. My teeth are whiter and it doesn't really taste that bad. A little soapy.
Dr. Bronners is all great stuff in my book. We used the baby mild soap until I was introduced to Cal Ben. I really, really like it. Not that I can pinpoint exactly why. :)

First of all, GREAT POST DAWN!
Secondly, I'm looking for a video to send a friend that talks about gum surgery (Specifically bridges) and how it's linked to body pain and joint problems due to bacterial infection. I saw this video once and can't seem to find it again. The idea is that when you have a bridge placed in your mouth the resultant bacteria can cause deeply imbedded issues with your entire body... ie, arthritis etc. I saw this video once, but can not seem to find it again. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

OK, I just found this info: Weston A. Price: World's Greatest Dentist
Most dentists would be doing an enormous service to public health if they
familiarized themselves with the work of Dr. Weston Pricei. Unfortunately,
his work continues to be discounted and suppressed by medical and dental
professionals alike.
Dr. Price was a dentist and researcher who traveled the world to study the
teeth, bones, and diets of native populations living without the "benefit"
of modern food. Around the year 1900, Price had been treating persistent
root canal infections and became suspicious that root-canaled teeth always
remained infected, in spite of treatments. Then one day, he recommended to
a woman, wheelchair bound for six years, to have her root canal tooth
extracted, even though it appeared to be fine.
She agreed, so he extracted her tooth and then implanted it under the skin
of a rabbit. The rabbit amazingly developed the same crippling arthritis as
the woman and died from the infection 10 days later. But the woman, now
free of the toxic tooth, immediately recovered from her arthritis and could
now walk without even the assistance of a cane.
Price discovered that it's mechanically impossible to sterilize a
root-canaled (e.g. root-filled) tooth.
He then went on to show that many chronic degenerative diseases originate
from root-filled teeth—the most frequent being heart and circulatory
diseases. He actually found 16 different causative bacterial agents for
these conditions. But there were also strong correlations between
root-filled teeth and diseases of the joints, brain and nervous system. Dr.
Price went on to write two groundbreaking books in 1922 detailing his
research into the link between dental pathology and chronic illness.
Unfortunately, his work was deliberately buried for 70 years, until finally
one endodontist named George Meinig recognized the importance of Price's
work and sought to expose the truth.

You may need to use a whitening agent once or twice a week (depending on your diet) as the lack of abrasives will not keep your teeth as white (though this is purely aesthetics)

this is what I have gathered over the years...
Updated: December 6, 2009
With Dental and Oral disease these are the big three issues that come into play!
First is a microbe problem in your mouth,
Second is a nutritional problem.
Third may be a fluoride issue…And I do think you can overcome it!
But it will take some work on your part.
You must start eating lots more fresh veggies, like every day, veggie salads! You need to address all three and here is the plan. Aside from brushing and flossing daily, which is probably the only correct thing your dentist has taught you, this is what I would do.
1. Stop drinking anything with fluoride in it. Purchase bottled or purified water if you must. Too much fluoride makes your teeth weak, crumble and become susceptible to cavities.
2. Get Xylitolwhite or Spry tooth paste. Don’t ever use the other stuff again. These toothpastes will help to eliminate bacteria.
iHerb.com – Product Details – Now Foods, XyliWhite Toothpaste Gel, Refreshmint, 6.4 oz (181 g) (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=885&at=0)
I just happen to have a coupon code for Xyliwhite and you will get it free if you make a first order. Put BAR967 in the coupon code. Or if you don’t want the toothpaste the code can be used for $5 off any other product. Anyone reading this can use it but I don’t know for how long it will be good for. If you don’t like Xyliwhite then try Spry next time.
3. For a while you will have to get into the offensive attack mode. Get some Nutribiotic Grapefruit Seed Extract and put one drop on your toothpaste and brush. If you can tolerate it increase to two drops when you can. If your gums can handle it rub it directly on the gums and put some on your dental floss. Now be careful because if your gums are really bad it will burn. You want to work up to it.
iHerb.com – Product Details – NutriBiotic, The Original GSE Liquid Concentrate, 4 fl oz (118 ml) (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=4215&at=0)
4. Get some CoQ10 100mg and take one cap two times a day. This is the type I recommend because it is an an oil base which makes it assimilate better. This will nourish your gums from the inside out and you can also poke a hole in the cap and apply it directly to your gums.
iHerb.com – Product Details – Healthy Origins, CoQ10 Gels, 100 mg, 150 Softgel Capsules (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=4131&at=0)
5. Vegital Silica may be helpful to strenghten bones and teeth. I wonder how your bones are? Take 3 caps two times a day for about 3 months, then 2 caps as maintenance.
iHerb.com – Product Details – Flora, Vegetal Silica, 180 Capsules (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=3062&at=0)
NOW, the Flora bone builder below also has silica but you need to take extra for a while. For further information go here: www.healthsalon.org/480/horsetail-silica-for-osteoporosis/ (http://www.healthsalon.org/480/horsetail-silica-for-osteoporosis/)
6. Take trace minerals, liquid is good, from a Utah mine or this, or any that has at least 72 trace minerals.
iHerb.com – Product Details – Source Naturals, Colloida Life Trace Minerals, 4 fl oz (118.28 ml) (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=1062&at=0)
7. Take a low dose calcium/magnesium supplement. about 300mg on the calcium. One tablet of these daily will be Ok.
iHerb.com – Product Details – Flora, Bone Basics, 160 Capsules (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=-288836797301311677&at=0)
8. Vitamin D, Purchase 5,000 IU caps and take 10,000 IU daily for 2 weeks, then 5,000 IU daily. This is one of the best products here:
secure.bio-tech-pharm.com/catalog.aspx?cat_id=2 (https://secure.bio-tech-pharm.com/catalog.aspx?cat_id=2)
9. Eliminate all sugar from your diet, at least until you are healed up. Try Xylitol or stevia for your sweetening needs. iHerb.com – Product Details – Now Foods, Stevia Liquid Extract, 2 fl oz (60 ml) (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=863&at=0)
iHerb.com – Product Details – Now Foods, Xylitol Plus, 75 Packets (http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=875&at=0)
If you look around you will find some cookbooks for this stuff, like on Amazon. I often use them together cause if you use tooo much stevia it has an aftertaste, but it is cheaper than xylitol, which tastes the best. Together I can get a nice compromise.
10. Make sure your toothbrush is clean. You do not need to purchase a new brush frequently if you leave your brush in hydrogen peroxide. Your brush will be very clean for each use. Some people use a little clorox. A quarter teaspoon in a glass of water is more than enough to sterilize your brush. Just give it a quick rinse before using.
11. Learn about MMS at www.jimhumble.biz (http://www.jimhumble.biz/) You can activte some mms, about 5 drops and add 3 or 4 ounces of water and use it to brush your teeth with. This will really cut down on the bacterial load. You can do it for up to a week every few weeks but do not do it every day forever as it is reported to cause tooth sensitivity.
12. Get rid of the mercury filling that are toxic and harbor bacteria. Find a dentist that can treat with ozone. Learn more about it here:
www.healthsalon.org/478/biomimetic-dentistry-ozone-dentistry-avoiding-root-canal-dr-alleman-dds/ (http://www.healthsalon.org/478/biomimetic-dentistry-ozone-dentistry-avoiding-root-canal-dr-alleman-dds/)
I hope you find this helpful. I have managed to eliminate all my gum issues and have helped quite a few others do the same and I haven’t had a cavity in more years than I can remember!
If you do searches on these different things on this forum you will learn just what they do and why they will be really helpful to your healing.
and if you choose to shop at www.Iherb.com (http://www.iherb.com/) enter coupon code BAR967 at the checkout and receive $5 off your first order.

Neat! I knew I was on to something!
I brush my teeth maybe once every few months... Like if I'm going out with an attractive lady (other than my partner) [sometimes]
The dentists are always impressed with my teeth. I've never had the gall to tell them how rarely I brush! It probably helps that I have very little processed sugars in my diet.
Somehow, I feel like many things that we believe we must absolutely do in order to function are actually just behavioral and chemical impositions, brought upon us by pop culture archons with nefarious motives. The same applies to what we believe about health, smoking, habits, lesbian sex, schizophrenia, the list goes on. It does take a brave soul to move from the heart with all of the conflicting statements and warnings being pelleted at the mind by societal and cultural mechanisms.

I agree that sugars themselves have no action on the teeth, but one of the most prominent oral bacteria is lactobacillus acidophilus. This bacterium metabolises sugars like glucose and lactose into lactic acid, which does attack the tooth enamel, though it's a relatively weak acid.
It's a bit strange to say that sugars don't harm the teeth though, on par with saying dousing your house in petrol won't burn it down. They're both certainly a cause, if admittedly an indirect cause. Sugars themselves might not do anything, but they can be used by oral bacteria to do it.
The thing about acid is it reacts with base compounds in the tooth enamel and the top layer of enamel liquifies because of it. If you eat something acidic, therefore, and immediately brush your teeth you're actually doing more harm than good, because while that enamel is in its liquescence, the brush actually brushes it off the tooth. Saliva is full of similar compounds so that as the mouth waters, the saliva eventually neutralises the acid and allows the tooth enamel to resettle.
If you disturb this process by brushing your teeth too soon, counter-intuitive though it sounds, you will do more harm than good by removing the enamel for good. Human saliva, though, is only weakly alkali and so it takes a relatively long time for it to bring the mouth PH back into balance (of course, how long depends upon the quantity and strength of the particular acid). One of the compounds found both in tooth enamel and in the saliva is sodium bicarbonate. Maybe that's why it makes great tooth powder (that and its soft, powdery form which makes it a great soft abrasive). It also can be used after acidic meals to re-adjust the mouth's PH. To do so, take a pinch and move it gently around your mouth. There's no need to move it around your mouth vigorously, softly and gently is the best way.
Once you've done that, you will be free to brush your teeth without danger of brushing away the enamel disrupted by the acid. The sodium bicarbonate, strengthening the base property of the saliva, will coax the enamel into resettling. That's a normal, biological process and if you do this you're just strengthening your mouth's own, natural mechanisms for maintaining health. I generally leave 5 minutes between finishing the rinse and starting brushing just to be sure. I hope this information helps somebody, I know my teeth have never felt so great since I gave up toothpaste. I rinse with sodium bicarbonate and brush with it too (though I add myrrh essential oil, but it's really not necessary).
-------------------------------------------
Dawn, I'm not sure what bar soap is. Is it just as it sounds, the stuff that comes in bars? I'm not sure if you've tried oil-pulling (it's written about on this forum) but I saw a site speculating that the reason it works is the oil interacts with the alkali compounds in human saliva to form a soap, and that the reason it works to clean the mouth is because of that transformation into soap.
The reason soaps work is because they are compounds made by fusing a polar molecule to a non-polar molecule. In the case of oil-pulling, they are fused by the mechanical action of swishing. The non-polar molecule (the oil) attaches itself to to the bacteria in the mouth, while the polar molecule (the alkali compounds in human saliva) dissolve themselves in water. By this mechanism, oily organisms like bacteria are dragged out of the mouth by normally lipophobic water. The soap basically allows us to make an emulsion of the rinsing water and the bacteria. It gives us a way of grabbing onto them and pulling them out of the mouth.
I just wanted to add this because in your post you refer to the benefits of using soap in the mouth. The mechanism of soap would definitely do everything your ascribe to it. Of course, different soaps are going to have 'extra' chemicals in them so you maybe don't want to swig from your Fairy Liquid (although why not, if you don't swallow it? lol), but soap in the basic, chemical sense will definitely do what you say it will do.

Historical references to shea butter, a staple of African pharmacology, date back to the reported shea butter caravans of Cleopatra's Egypt

Good proof that your intuition will lead you in the right direction :)
though perhaps there are other contributing factors, a low sugar diet will certainly help (to include grain based carbs).

So sorry I have not been a good host to you all on this thread. I'm just becoming involved with Avalon again after a horrendous tax audit which took months of my time. What wonderful contributions evenyone has added here. Thank you so much. In particular I'd like to thank you Seikou-Kishi for your information about hardening teeth enamel before brushing. I never knew this and have brushed off quite a bit of enamel at the gum line on the right side of my mouth. I am being much more gentle these days, and there is no discomfort there... but my teeth have definitely been harmed by vigorous brushing. Now I know the care needed. Good info!
Seikou-Kishi: Dawn, I'm not sure what bar soap is. Is it just as it sounds, the stuff that comes in bars?
I WAS using the hard square bars of soap you can purchase made by Dr. Bronner. My favorite flavor was his peppermint soap. However, that being said... I am on a very fun and very steep learning curve about our symbiotic relationship with bacteria. Based on this information I have added whey to my tooth cleaning process, which should get rid of any h-pylori and other pathogens in the mouth. This is because bacillus-acidophiles kills h-pylori. In fact a diet rich in various fermented foods will cure stomach ulcers for this same reason. It is h-pylori which causes tooth cavities and gum disease. Here is a link to my thread about this: http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?43548-The-root-of-most-disease...-NOT-what-you-think-
Meanwhile, your wonderful info about the importance of alkalizing teeth before you brush them is a missing key for me... and I am changing my routine to include baking soda in order to assist my body in hardening my tooth enamel before any cleaning procedure.
Rantaak and Christine Roby: From what you have reported I would venture a guess that you have very healthy gut flora, unfortunately a rarity in today's modern world. This would mean that these micro-organisms have defended your teeth and your entire body for you very effectively since your birth.
I really like your posts because they give hope to me. I am doing a 2 year protocol to correct damage from a leaky gut issue. As I have ventured onto a path designed to do this, my teeth and the health of all tissues in my mouth has changed dramatically for the better. I still brush my teeth because I was taught to, however they no longer seem to need it. Perhaps your experience of life is one that I will share sooner than later.

Hello all! Thank you to everyone for their wonderful contributions to this thread and especially to Dawn for starting it :cool: ! Ok so for years I have been using Tom's fluoride free tooth paste but it contains glycerin. The anti-glycerin argument that i heard on here made sense to me so I decided to try Dr. Bronners bar soap (peppermint flavor) and I brushed with it for the first time this morning. The flavor isn't as good as glycerin toothpastes but it really wasn't that bad either and flavor is a really low priority for me at this point. I also bought baking soda to combine with the bar soap. A few questions for anybody who is knowledgable about this subject:
1) Is it good to combine baking soda and bar soap when brushing?
2) I also bought peroxide for rising and whitening purposes. Is peroxide harmful to healthy bacteria?
Oh and one comment:
A good electric toothbrush can really cut down on receding gums because you don't feel like you have to brush as hard.
Thanks again to everyone!

I'm picking up some liquid Tooth soap :)
http://toothsoap.com/clean-your-teeth-with-tooth-soap/
Flavored with ec. oils, I'm almost out of vicco!
I've just started using ToothSoap - it's three ingredients are
organic extra virgin olive oil
organic coconut oil
essential oil
I wonder if using that to brush my teeth is anything like oil pulling (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?43153-Oil-Pulling) (except that I don't do it for as long - perhaps I should)?
I like it - using the "cinammon shreds" flavor.

How is it soap without a base component? It must become soap in the mouth by mechanical action on base compounds in the saliva, in which case it is functionally identical to oil pulling.

After a minute or two of brushing and slurshing around, it becomes all soapy and foamy -- so I suspect you're right.
===
Post Scriptum:
Oops - I missed a key word on the ingredient label.
The olive oil is saponified. This means it is mixed with a base, such as Lye (NaOH) for hard soaps, or potassium hydroxide (KOH) for soft soaps. This produces heat, soap and glycerin.
This also explains how the shreds (look like one inch soft white strings of soap) remain solid at room temperature. A simple mix of coconut, olive and other oils would (I presume) be liquid at room temperature. Pure coconut oil will solidify at cooler room temperatures, and melt in a warmer room. Olive oil freezes in the refrigerator, but is liquid at any ordinary room temperature.
So Toothsoap shreds will naturally have glycerin, as a product of the saponfication. They just don't have added glycerin.
Hmm ... maybe I should try the liquid, whip, or gel forms of Toothsoap as well ... might be less glycerin.
P.P.S. -- all the ToothSoaps have saponified olive oil -- the more liquid forms add water :).

Article: The systemic theory of dental caries
Wow Nearing! Thank you so much. As I mentioned, I began a diet which has no carbohydrated or sugars other than those available in leafy greens and protein sources about 3 months ago. During the past 6 weeks I have agressively added probiotics and living foods to this diet. The results in my mouth have been astounding!
No longer do I need to brush my teeth, though I do in the evening as a long standing habit. My teeth feel as though they have just been polished all day long. There is no build up of bacteria or calculus on them, and my breath is fresh all the time. My gums have also become 'tight' against my teeth.
I am 60 years old and so this change is wonderful and remarkable. Previously, like most 'older people' my gums had developed 'pockets' between the tissue and the teeth where bacteria liked to hide and built up between brushing/flossing. Now... no gum pockets at all.
Thank you for sharing this information. Now, if someone would just develop a way for us to regrow our teeth that would really be a blessing. I lost my front teeth in an accident 43 years ago... I wish I had my own front teeth. I can really identify with the classic song, 'All I Want for Christmas is My 2 Front Teeth'

I'm going to post an update here as a guide post to people who might need a personal story to direct them. When I do this I am not complaining about my health, I am passing along my experience so that others may benefit from it.
As mentioned in the above post, I had an accident which knocked one front tooth out, and killed my other one when I was 17 years old. (44 years ago). The dead tooth recieved a root canal at the time and I have kept an eye on it... and have been using MMS as a mouthwash each evening as a bacterial preventative.
About 6 months ago I found there were signs of infection visable with X-ray and requested the dentist do an extraction... she refused. Since then I have allowed the situation to ride with no further action on my part.
Over the past 6 years I have experienced deteriorating eyesight. I also had a series of sinus infections (no longer an obvious problem) about 10 years ago. Today I had a session with my favorite healer of choice, Stefan Voin. Sefan uses an Aura Meter for diagnosis of problems in the body. Then he uses a complex set up of radionics, plasma tubes, crystals and LEDs for treatment.
He discovered that my eyes were infected with 4 virulent virus and bacterial infections. (no wonder my sight had become blurry and it was hard to focus!) The root cause turned out to be a certain kind of staphylococcus b. bacteria which forms in infected teeth. This bacteria had made a home above the old root canal in my sinus, and from there had spread into my eyes, ears, and brain. So, I am off to find a good dentist. In this moment I believe I will set up something with the dental clinic Dr. Clark used to recommend when she was alive. They are across the US border in Tijuana. A new adventure is about to begin in my life. By the way, according to Stefan Voin I am now infection free and will remain that way as long as I use oregano oil on my toothbrush each day.

Dawn — I have a recipe you might be interested in. I've made it myself (my first batch matured) and I wanted to make sure it was any good before I posted it.
If you want to ensure your oral hygeine products are unadulterated, there is scarcely a better way than to make them yourself. If you wish to do so, you will need 295g caustic soda (when you weigh it out, use a bowl you don't mind losing), 800ml high grade olive oil, 800ml sunflower oil (I use almond oil), 615g coconut oil or vegetable fat and 900ml of water, preferably distilled, otherwise bottled. In addition, any essential oils to give flavour/scent (how much will depend on the individual oils; I used myrrh (which is antisceptic), lemon balm (anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal) and spearmint (smells nice, also used for gum health)
So in a large bucket, mix the caustic soda and the water. It is essential to add the soda to the water and not the other way around; caustic soda reacts with water and produces a lot of heat; if you add water to soda, rather than the other way around, it will be a violent reaction.
Once it's mixed, in a large stewpan (or similar) heat the coconut oil or vegetable fat until it melts, and then add the olive oil and almond or sunflower oil. Once mixed, pour into the bucket with the caustic soda solution. Add any essential oils you're using. Stir for 40 minutes.
Once the time has passed, divide it up amongst your moulds and leave it somewhere it will remain warm for a full day. Once it has set, take the soap out of the moulds and leave it to dry for six weeks, after which time you can cut it into bars and leave it to dry.
Now I have more soap than I know what to do with, but I do know exactly what went into it :-)
And it tastes nice too :D

Until you get things fixed I would keep up with the MMS oral wash as well as internally. There is every possibility that the staph that is affecting your eyes could be handled by MMS. You might also want to consider a product made by Dr Christopher called Eyebright.
When it comes to selecting a Dentist you will be interested to read this article which provides info on some of the best dental procedures available. There is also a link to find a dentist who does it in your area.

Paul: So ... how did it go, Dawn ?
OK.. it's been a few months and an update might help some of you who are facing this type of situation.
I found a wonderful dentist who has had similar accidents to mine and has had to deal with his own body's reaction to the toxic practices of modern dentistry. In self defense, he had to learn how to recover from his own dental situation. His practice is based upon helping people like me recover. He not only has the most bio-compatible pain killers and other needed supplies, but he has also taken extensive courses in dental acupuncture. YES!!! Finally a branch of dentistry recognizes that the roots of all teeth are directly tied in with the meridians of the body, where prana and life force flow.
In my case, a former dentist had hammered a metal rod into my skull from inside my front tooth, where he did a root canal. This rod acted as an acupuncture needle in my 'conception vessel'. This vessel connects directly into the front 4 teeth and feeds prana to all the main organs (liver, spleen, kidneys, stomach, pancreas) as well as main glands of the body (thyroid, thymus, pineal). All these systems were failing in my body... all at the same time! Although I was doing a lot for my health, the metal rod in my skull was undermining all my efforts. Among other things, my skull had begun to dissolve and no longer showed up on x-rays in the usual way. Several x-rays taken showed my skull as 'invisible' with teeth floating in the space where my upper jaw should have been.
So.. how was this corrected? Well first, all toxic dentistry was removed including the old root canal and the metal rod. Then my body began to 'unwind' from the long-term abuse in the system and I felt really ill for about 2 months. My dentist did acupuncture sessions on me to counteract this. In order to make the acupuncture as potent as possible he also injected homeopathic medicine into the affected acupuncture meridians. When he first began, I had no kidney pulse what-so-ever, and he mentioned that by Chinese medical standards I should be dead. 3 months later I am pretty darn healthy. He has directly told me that, at the beginning of treatment, he was not sure I would live long enough to heal from the situation.
The issue for me now is how to repair my smile. Perhaps because of the abuse of my body by former dentistry it has become very sensitive and shows an allergic reaction to most dental materials, including the temporary 'flipper plate' which allows me to look like I have front teeth. The solution to repair my smile is not clear yet. So I have a gap toothed smile most of the time (except when I can bear to wear the toxic flipper). At least my health is back. I can wait for a good smile repairing solution to show itself.
In this 3 month period I did go to Peru to spend some time with a shaman. I was told by a natural healer to go 'kill what is trying to kill you before it succeeds'.... This trip worked as a wonderful exorcism as well as a physical 'reset'. ...... but.... that is another story

My health had not gotten as bad, but I too needed a good dentist, and found one. I've had an implant and a root canal removed (already feeling better) and have three more root canals to go. I too face the question of what to put in their place.
Damnable dentistry ... root canals and (earlier in my life) mercury fillings. Western medicine has taken a turn for the dark side I'm afraid, along with several other Western institutions.

our bodies seem very accepting of Titanium, perhaps that is the "fix" material? I'm suprized it's not mentioned in dentistry more.
I used some titanium based sunscreen last week while in oregon... unfortunately I wasn't aware of how effective it is, I have some rather interesting tan "lines" (smears) now.. haha

The implant I just had removed was titanium. The toxic reaction to it had destroyed a noticeable chunk of my jaw bone and, based on the immediate improvement in my sense of well being once it was removed, that destroyed bone had been the primary cause of the toxins that had been causing ills in my body the last the last few years.
I might still tolerate titanium against the skin or even inside the mouth, but not implanted in my bones.
If I were to have another implant, I'd most likely end up using ceramic or oxidized zirconium. I doubt I'll ever have another implant however.

Apparently many (most?) people do OK with titanium bone implants, dental or hip.
Also my problem might not have been the titanium itself, initially at least, but perhaps rather an improperly cleaned out tooth socket when it was pulled ... hard to know.

Replying to the comments about titanium. Actually this is NOT A SAFE metal to have in the body. The medical profession is ceasing its use in patients after a number have died from titanium poisoning according to my up-to-date dentist. However the dental profession is continuing to use it at this time even though crystaline zirconium implants and caps are available.
The problem of ANY METAL at ALL in the mouth is that it conducts electricity... and since all teeth are in direct contact with the electrical meridian system in the body this causes severe medical problems. Most people with root canals or metal fillings do not realize that their other medical problems are actually being caused by their dentistry. And the dentist associations are really afraid to admit this or they would be open to law suits galore. Only a small part of the dental profession is continuing to grow and discover what is really happening and what to do about it. My dentist is missing most of the molars on the upper left side of his own jaw and has not had them replaced because he has had so many personal health problems due to his personal dentistry in the past.
This is totally aside from the actual poisoning from mercury amalgums, nickle poisoning (such as I experienced recently with my toxic dentistry), and/or titanium poisoning. So... if you have metal in your mouth this is likely or even definitely going to eventually cause health problems for you. How your ill health manifests depends on which teeth are effected and how your dentist handled repairs.
For me... having a broken smile is a small price to pay for being alive and having my health back! I must admit that I wear the plastic temporary 'flipper', which I am allergic to, in some social situations so that others will not judge me by my missing front teeth. And I'm certainly not going to change out my Avalon photo for a current gap-toothed one... still.. I am ALIVE!!

no kidding, i'd do that. it's much better than the health problems that will eventually develop from mercury poisoning and infected root canals. most people who suffer from arthritis or various other problems would never look to their teeth as the source. it's better to be toothless and healthy than sick all the time or dead.

I've noticed a huge improvement in my teeth of late. A while ago I gave up toothpaste and started brushing with sea salt and baking soda. And again in the last two months I have given up grains and sugar. My mind is now clear, I don't get as tired (used to get really low energy about four pm) and I'm not getting plaque on my teeth. I now eat fruit veg, protein, raw milk and water, (pure water from our spring). Man do I suffer if I do eat any crap. I wake up with a hangover!

I just want to add that sodium laurel sulfate (or the more caustic is sodium laureth sulfate) is engine degreaser. I'm willing to bet that is what is eating away at tooth enamel....

I'd like to thank you, Dawn, for this article. I read it last year when you posted it and stopped using toothpaste immediately. In the year since, my teeth have also improved dramatically. Whiter, no pain like I used to have occasionally. I've got some deeper issues, I think, because I have old fillings, mercury and amalgam, and a couple of root canals that I have to take care of eventually. I think they may be implicit in a numbness Ive been feeling in my cheek for a couple years now and a throbbing pain that has subsided since I've been brushing with soap, but I still feel sometimes. When I get the money, they're gone, if they have to pull them out by the roots.

Doing oral washes with mms once a week eleminated a long term problem of tooth sensitivity from a mercury removal I had done4 or 5 years ago. A filling was done instead of a root canal as the dentist thought it might be worth a try. My new dentist (biomemetic dentistry) said that that tooth hurt because there was still decay that the other guy didnt get all out. I couldnt chew comfortably on that side for 4 years at least. After mms rinses the pain is all gone. Goes to show that the mms really penetrates the tooth I would assume.

Redmond products are good, and I've sometimes brushed my teeth with the clay. The paste sounds easier to use...nothing like having a mouthful of dirt! Even clean dirt.

Yeah I'm taking your advice too Dawn thanks.
I did a dental hygiene course through work a while ago and the dental nurse who taught it recommended toothpaste with a fluoride content of 1400 ppm (parts per million) nice to know they think the more poisonous the better.

I began using the Dr. Bronners peppermint soap (4-5 drops) and equal parts baking soda/sea salt for an abrasive.
I love it! and the combo is VERY inexpensive.

Nice! I stopped brushing my teeth when I noticed as a child that the fluoride made my head feel funny. Haven't ever had any problems, the dentists always applaud my "vigorous and unrelenting hygiene"....
But maybe I'll start using this Dr Bronners Peppermint Bar Soap stuff!

Actually it is a liquid soap, and they sell in in a 2oz bottle, which is only $2.99

Rahkyt, some of the people on Avalon feel like long time friends, you are one of them. I think you saw my post, but in case you didn't ... please do everything possible to remove your root canals. The numbness in your cheek is not a good sign! That is how infected root canals often present. You do not feel these root canal infections in your teeth, but in the rest of your face and jaw. I very nearly died from an infected root canal which I had removed in April of this year. It has been a long slow recovery. My dentist was not sure I would recover because my health had deteriorated so badly. I am still not 100% well, but I am so much better that each day is a delightful discovery of what is showing up now?! PLEASE beg, borrow, or steal the money to have your root canals removed.... you can afford dentures or what ever later. I had no front teeth for several months during my recovery process and I am glad I went through it all... even the humiliation of looking like a 'bag lady' for a while.

Hi Dawn
what did you do about the gap left by having the root canal removed. This can be a problem - as if you leave a gap, the remaining teeth will move, and affect your bite. Dentures with bits of metal and plastic dont sound much fun, and I suspect implants may be just as bad as root canals

Interesting topic. Both my holistic dentist and his daughter/receptionist have many missing molars which they have chosen NOT to replace at all at this time. Obviously they do not like the choices available in dentistry- cost is certainly not the issue for either of them. They are just leaving the gap. However, in my case... missing front teeth are simply not socially acceptable. No matter who you are, missing front teeth are just too confrontational for most people to deal with, and they become fascinated with the gap while you are talking to them.
When you have front teeth (or any other teeth) removed, you can have a 'stay plate' or 'flipper' made for temporary use. In my case, I was allergic to the plastic that is used to make these, so my temporary plate (with fake teeth attached) caused my tongue to swell and tingle. I compromised by wearing my temporary plate an hour or 2 daily, to keep the space open where my teeth had been, until a permanent denture could be built.
Actually, dentists in the know do have the ability to install implants that are totally made from non-metalic crystaline-ceramic called zirconia. I could have gone this way, however I have lost so much bone from the infection that I would have needed the implantation of a 'bone stimulating' grid made from cellulose, followed by a number of months to allow bone growth. Finally a ceramic implant with a special plastic cover over it to protect my mouth while the bone was growing around the implant could be installed. Then about 6-8 months later 'teeth' could be attached to the implants. Estimated time for all of this was 1.5 years and I decided it sounded pretty invasive.... not to mention expensive and time consuming.
My decision for a denture was all about trying NOT to further traumatize my body. My denture and I are working to become friends. I have only had it for about 5 days now. It is a non-allergen, however I am not totally comfortable with it in, so I spend much of the day at home toothless. I will say this, it does not come out when eating... in fact it is extremely difficult to get out, even though it is all plastic and it did not involve 'prepping' any of my other teeth to fit. I am now presentable to the world with passable front teeth.
But.. if my problem had been molars I might just have left everything alone to heal and remain empty.
I did hear a rumor of real actual natural teeth implants with stem cells being performed somewhere in the Carribean Islands. If anyone knows of this I hope they will take a moment to post information about it.
PS: After reading all the wonderful information supplied by Avalon members on this site I have now settled on using straight baking soda to brush my teeth with. My mouth likes it.

The implant (titanium post) that I had removed last month was worse than any of my several root canal treated teeth. It had a larger pocket of former bone that had been converted to generating toxins. I had it removed first, and just that alone has left me feeling much better.
My dentist uses an EDS 2000 Electrodermal Screening System (http://www.synergyhealthsystems.com/) to test for what substances are compatible with my body. According to that system, I shouldn't have zirconium implants either. However I have doubts about the accuracy of that EDS 2000 result. I even bought a Test Kit (http://ancientway.com/blog/?p=796), and had my dentist see if the EDS 2000 could tell whether MSG and Vit C was more compatible for me. It couldn't -- randomly deciding both compounds were both good and bad for me.
I'm going with permanently missing teeth in the far back, bridges for the molars in between, and a cantilever for the one missing front tooth. If I run out of money before completing this project, I might have to go with partial dentures instead of bridges in some places.

Healing Bone Infections the Easy Way
I have remembered something I'd like to report here... how I healed my bone infection at home and without antibiotics. I used:
1- a Sota magnetic pulser
2- a Beck device for blood cleaning
3- home made ozonated water after each session to eliminate toxic die off symptoms
4- a few drops colloidal silver before each blood cleaning session to stimulate stem cell formation
5- extra vitamin D2 to support a healthy immune system
This information might be important to someone else recovering from bad dentistry. The bone infection I had extended many inches into my skull, and also into my eye sockets, so that removal of infected bone was not possible. It took a concerted effort to remember to do these treatments daily for 4-6 weeks. This combination of treatment methods worked well and I saved my body from facing a course of antibiotics.
Magnetic pulsers were recommended by Bob Beck in his protocol for treating deep areas where there is poor blood circulation, such as bones and joints.
Beck blood cleaners use electrodes strapped to the wrist which emit a low pulse and clean pathogens from the blood. If you are unaware of Bob Beck and his protocols you can find tons of info by typing: Bob Beck Blood Cleaner into a Google search.

This supports what my holistic dentist told me about titanium. He said that the medical profession was no longer using it because some people had actually died from titanium toxicity. My sister had a titanium plate put into her shattered ankle to stabilize it while healing. After a year her lower leg had turned jet black, so she had the plate removed. That was 3 years ago and she still has a jet black area that is about 2" x 6" on her leg above the area where the titanium was.
According to my highly educated dentist NO METAL of any kind should be installed in the mouth because of its electrical properties which influence the body's electrical system causing problems all over the body.

This post isn't about toothpaste, but it is about toxic dentistry. Here is a fairly comprehensive radio interview that begins with
1. A woman who has been ill since age 10, but became totally healthy after toxic dentistry was corrected.
2. An excellent interview with a naturalistic dentist. He says 100% of root canals, and almost all wisdom teeth extractions become highly toxic and poisonous to the body... resulting in serious systemic illnesses.
By the way, my health has become stronger and stronger since my root canal with its accompanying metal post were removed in earlier in 2012.
Here's the link to the interview: http://webtalkradio.net/internet-talk-radio/2012/12/24/how-to-live-cancer-free-dental-toxins-a-remarkable-healing-and-a-master-dentist/

This thread has some great info!
But a few years old now.
Having just refused the dentists reccomendation of doing a Root Canal treatment on me - something told me it was not a natural thing to do, and I cant afford it anyway - I am taking more note of stuff like this and what I should be using to keep my teeth clean etc.
I have a few questions if I may...
What is MMS?
And what is the current reccommendation for keeping teeth healthy with what is available easily enough in the UK?

There are a couple of Avalon threads about root canal treatment. The summary: Don't do it! :)
Root Canals: Cause of Many Degenerative Diseases (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?65806-Root-Canals-Cause-of-Many-Degenerative-Diseases)
Pulling root canal tooth... need advice! (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?56504-Pulling-root-canal-tooth...-need-advice-)
MMS is Miracle Mineral Solution (or sometimes called 'Miracle Mineral Supplement'). It was first developed and promoted by Jim Humble, and the current best source of information about this is Dr Andreas Kalcker. I know them both personally, and they're very fine people.
If you look up 'MMS' on the net, it's almost universally debunked and criticized in the mainstream, usually with a great deal of distortion that's either deliberate or very lazily mis-researched.
But it truly works. I've personally experienced something at first hand, before my own eyes, that could only be described as a miracle.
A middle-aged woman I knew had a disabling squint, caused by a mild brain injury in childhood. Her eyes pointed in slightly different directions, which had affected her eyesight, appearance, and confidence for 40 (forty) years.
Her eyes straightened right out after she took just a few drops of MMS. She was in a Zurich meditation group that I was part of, and we all saw what had happened.
It was extraordinary. Everyone in the room, who all knew her well, was just weeping with amazement. :flower: It could hardly be believed. But it really happened, and her cure was as permanent as it was inexplicable.
There are quite a number of Avalon threads about MMS. Search for "Jim Humble" (in quotes, to preserve the search term), and the threads will come up.
A few members have been critical or skeptical, and all I can say is that it does not appear to work for absolutely everyone. The mechanism really isn't fully understood. And it's not very pleasant to take, either! But I have some in my first aid pack because as a last resort — for anything at all, including covid — it may be very very useful.

Propolis tincture is a good one for dental problems, a couple of drops directly on the area can do wonders.

I'm afraid I have NO idea where or how to find MMS in the UK... but maybe others reading this can help, or have a source?

Very interesting!! I have one eye that points downwards in recent years and have a prism in my glasses to compensate.
I should say just a tiny bit more about this. No-one has barely a clue how or why this happened, but there must have been a biochemical cause-and-effect operating somehow.
I asked Dr Andreas Kalcker himself, and his only guess was that there may have been some kind of strange subclinical viral condition that had caused the squint, or was somehow keeping it there. And of course, not all squints or eye-misalignments might have the same cause.
I lived in Switzerland for a while, and I also asked a Swiss doctor who was a friend. He knew Jim Humble well, and had accompanied him to Africa where he saw at first hand thousands of people being fully cured of malaria by MMS.
He was an 'orthodox' and fully-trained MD, but was genuinely very smart, curious and open-minded about it all. His only conclusion was that there was something about how MMS operated which no-one actually really understood, not even Jim Humble himself. (And based on what I feel I know, I'd fully agree. It can't be dismissed, and sometimes does work miracles.)
~~~
Changing the subject! A good toothpaste substitute may be essential peppermint oil. Just a couple of drops on the toothbrush. I use that all the time.
One source is this, OraMD:
I'd agree that Andreas Kalcker is the current best source of information on MMS (chlorine dioxide), that it works very well in various ways, and that it doesn't taste all that great. For topical applications, such as on wounds and insect bites, the taste is not an issue, but for prolonged oral and internal use, that can be a modest issue.
As I posted here (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?116343-MMS-for-the-WIN---Japan-demonstrates-ability-of-chlorine-dioxide-to-combat-SARS-CoV-2&p=1453491&viewfull=1#post1453491) on one of the MMS threads a couple of weeks ago, Kalcker seems to understand quite well both the chemistry of chlorine dioxide (why and how it actually works) and the various ways of using it.
(Hopefully, my post will contribute to Bill's efforts to focus on dental issues in this thread, by further guiding the MMS (chlorine dioxide) discussion to one of the appropriate MMS threads.)
Has anyone tried 'oil pulling' ( see link) I have tried it a few times and It felt like it could be effective. A lot of people rave about this, as in it turned their total health around not just oral.
It's not pleasant,just the taste and feel of swishing oil round your mouth made me feel sick. I shall persevere though as the benefits are a lot more attractive than any dentists chair 😲...Dr Bronner peppermint soap sounds good but I was checking the price on Amazon and in the ingredients it does list glycerin , isn't that one of the nasties to avoid?..I might of misread it though,my eyes are not what they were..my God I'm falling apart all over 😕
As a dentist (retired) I find this thread interesting too but seriously the best way to keep your teeth and your gums in great shape is floss! If you do not use dental floss and you have teeth problems you owe no one but yourself for the issues you have folks! Floss is more important than the brush! I mean the brush works but the floss and the brush must be used in unison and it's a matter of muscle memory and repetition to get the hang of it don't make excuses just do it and if they bleed it's good! The blood is rinsing it out and it will eventually stop! I'm 62 and have all my teeth and no problems in my mouth because I went to dental school graduated and know what works! This is not a question and answer opp. I really don't feel like arguing with you and I know you will because of past posts I've made. I and my wife, also a retired dentist with 22 years active duty in the Indian Health Srvc and with Coast Guard pensions, (Yes the IHS is a branch of the CG) can I assure you if you floss more than you brush you'll be fine!! Flossing is something we do multiple times a day! Do you? If not start! Totally fine if not but when you have problems there is no miracle cure folks! By the way my wife is 64 and she also has all her teeth and no problems dentally speaking! If you don't use dental floss start using it!
The interdens brushes should be used as well. You need different sizes according to how large the gaps are between your teeth. Any gum inflammation a couple of drops of oregano oil on your toothbrush, the the inflammation will be gone in a day or two
I concur. I mean, how else are you going to get between the teeth right?
I find that brushing is OK to get a fairly clean mouth but I need flossing and Listerine to really help prevent problems.
Ratzinger would you mind me asking your opinion on the role of diet in the formation and maintenance of healthy teeth and bones.
Specifically, have you heard of Weston A Price's book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration (https://archive.org/details/NutritionAndPhysicalDegeneration), where there is a wealth of research into how modern, non-indigenous diets are so destructive to dental health.
Having used a wide variety of tools and flosses to clean between my teeth, I like these brushes the best:
I'm also a firm believer in what Weston Price called the "X Factor", now known as Vitamin K2. It's a key nutrient in getting calcium out of the blood (where Vitamin D3 might have helped it get to, from the gut), and into where you want it, like bones and teeth.
Our diet is very destructive to our teeth! Commercial beverages, COKE, PEPSI, and more, lemons, limes and sucking on them, using a hard bristle brush instead of the softest, sugars and acids and hard abrasion over a lifetime take their toll for sure. So does things like biting your nails, pulling out Bic pen refills with your central incissors, but all this can be cleaned off and you can get by without issues if you floss, brush, and rinse with water or as you prefer Listerine or Scope but the sugars sit in a human mouth for very little time before the abundant bacteria in a human mouth begins feeding off it and dumping it's waste in the form of acid on your teeth in all manner of hard to reach spots! Left without at least rinsing it to new spots until you can brush or floss, so long as what you drink doesn't have sugar in it, this is even better than nothing. The American diet is horrible on teeth tho, and I think probably the worst in the world. America is also behind in dentistry now compared to when I worked in it. Germany is ahead of now for this and has been for quite a while, and all of the UK is better too as far as what I had been seeing from from patients we had that moved here and came to us.
What I tell people is not always received well because my wife and myself are firm believers that dentistry betrayed everyone with their purposely remix of the silver fillings so they would no longer corrode! They sold it as highly polishable and made it in sphere shaped so all these little balls are what makes up the silver which means without the corrosion factor of the old silver the filling never sealed you see? The corrosion of the silver was what locked the thing up good and tight so no bacteria could get into the cracks and leave it's acid crap to eat your enamel away! The corrosion of the silver was the miracle that made those filling last a life time and it was a problem for dentistry when a silver filling that could actually be cracked while eating could then seal back up in no time and continue on for years so the person never even knew he cracked it. Saw it doezens of times in people's mouths over the years. What the dental wholesale labs did at all the bigger supply companies did was make it so the silver didn't last any longer or seal any better than the tooth colored materials do which on average last about five years before leaking and needing replaced. In the mean time people like us with silver fillings going back to my teen years even that are still sealed and working in my and my wife's mouths are just fine.
We actually took many of those highly sensitive tooth colored materials back out for many patients to replace them with the Dispersalloy silver by J&J that you use mercury and a triturator for to mix yourself and even with the mercury propaganda going after those filling to get rid of as many as possible to make steady biz out of every patient instead of actually providing a filling that could if taken care of last a lifetime the industry went for the money and a few years after when we could no longer tolerate what we saw going on in the field with the way insurance was dictating the treatments not the doctor we got out of it and never looked back. Thanks for asking. If you disagree or want to argue or cut me down for mercury just keep it to yourselves! It works, it seals, its not sensitive for a very long time like the tooth colored and it wears far better and self heals! In short it a superior product for the patient for many many years and it wasn't until they began the program to attack it due to the mercury that they could gurantee planned obsolete fillings with an average life expectancy of five years no matter which you take. The fact is if you don't use the old style "AMALGAM" (silver) the new alloys of silver fillings they sell, while still containing mercury, no longer seal up and are just as short lived as the tooth colored ones unless you take extremely good care of them. What usually happened was the margin where the tooth and the filling material meet where they put the glass ionomer cement leaks and bacteria gets down under and in and starts a caries (cavity) in the area it gained access. Anyway, that is how we feel. I think what dentistry did was criminal and they knew when they did this from the top down it was going for the money instead of at least offering patients the opportunity to make an informed choice and perhaps gain a lifetime filling instead of one that is almost guaranteed to leak in five years. Sorry long winded today! I haven't been on the computer much. Decorating for Halloween in these parts!
Please allow me another edit: Sorry, but I should mention you can have good teeth, great teeth and without fluoride. If the fluoride is natural calcium fluoride the water should be checked though because most of the cases of too much fluoride in the water was from nature not man putting the sludge fluorides of waste product in water because one of the 1% wanted special treatment to sell off his poisons. Again dental let down the world there too knowing full well calcium fluoride was the right choice but I digress.
Clo2 really does tighten up loose teeth.
On dental uses and effects of brushing teeth with MMS: healing of abscessed teeth, infected gums & pyorrhea and fixing loose teeth
(excerpted from The Miracle Mineral Supplement of the 21st Century, Part 2)
"Use 6 drops in a glass, add ½ teaspoon of vinegar or lemon, or lime, wait three minutes and add ¼ glass of water. Use this solution to brush the teeth. Use a new solution every morning. Do not leave this solution in the mouth for longer than 60 seconds.
Expect the pain of an abscessed tooth to be overcome by the immune system in about four hours. Expect all infection and all pyorrhea to be gone in one week. Expect all loose teeth to be rock solid in two weeks. Expect a completely healthy mouth in less than three weeks.
MMS and internal dental abscesses: update by Jim Humble
In the same "Project Camelot" interview quoted above, Jim Humble related the following: "[I've had] all kinds of people who had terrible terrible diseases of the mouth, including abscessed teeth. Now for a long time I was pretty much convinced that if a tooth is abscessed from the inside you couldn't get MMS into it and therefore you couldn't cure it if it was abscessed from inside.
But the fact of the matter is, one of my guys said 'hey I am gonna try that DMSO [Dimethyl sulfoxide] and see if it'll soak in'. So he put it in and brushed his mouth with a real light soft toothbrush for a while just dipping it in the DMSO and MMS combination ... and in about two days, the abscess in his tooth went away. Now that's a total impossibility, but it worked. So it does really great things with the mouth."[3]
It is permissible to wonder here if brushing with the above MMS/DMSO combination would also be effective for cavitation infections.
Positive experiences with using MMS for toothbrushing and as a mouthwash
"MMS at 10 drops with 50 drops of citric acid stopped my bleeding gums."
"I have used the product and saw great results for parasite internal cleansing. In just two days of using a very dilute solution of it as a mouthwash, my gums are healthy. Wow!" (both found at www.earthclinic.com/Supplements/MMS.html)
"I had bleeding gums most of my life. I use the MMS for toothbrushing and rinse and it does STOP the bleeding miraculously every time, been at it for about 3 years now! It also makes your breath more bearable, says the wife."
"Bad breath caused by bacteria and bleeding gums can be treated with a solution of MMS used as a mouthwash mornings and evenings. With deeper gum or even tooth root infections, one can add a few drops of DMSO to increase the effect, allowing the MMS to penetrate the tissues more deeply. Generally speaking, all problems should be gone within three or four days of application." (translated from a German source)
Changing the subject! A good toothpaste substitute may be essential peppermint oil. Just a couple of drops on the toothbrush. I use that all the time.
One source is this, [B]OraMD:
I usually use regular peppermint oil, like this: (a much larger and cheaper bottle per volume)
The Now essential peppermint oil arrived a couple of days ago. I purchased the 16 oz bottle. A little goes a longgg way, so it'll be awhile before I need more.
The GUM Soft Picks arrived today. I floss and use the GUM bristle and coated wire type, but I like yours m-u-c-h better. And since the Covid thang, I've also been taking Vitamin D3 & K2. (plus others)
Scientists May Have CRACKED the Code to REGROW Missing Teeth!
U9PuAZbCAKQ
Imagine a future where you can regrow missing teeth—no implants, no dentures, just your natural teeth growing back! Sounds like science fiction, right? Well, groundbreaking research from Toregem BioPharma, a Japanese biotech company, suggests this might soon be a reality! 🦷✨
At the center of this revolutionary discovery is USAG1, a protein that naturally prevents the body from growing extra teeth. Scientists have found a way to block USAG1 using a simple injection, allowing the body’s natural bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) to kickstart new tooth growth.
Successful trials in mice – regrew fully functional teeth!
Human clinical trials are starting soon 🚀
The treatment works through a vein injection – no surgery needed!
Could replace implants and dentures in the near future!
If successful, this game-changing treatment could replace traditional dental implants and revolutionize oral healthcare forever! Could this be the end of missing teeth as we know it?
