If you found it hard to get a seat on the journey to work this morning, spare a thought for these travellers in Bangladesh.

Hundreds squeezed on trains from the capital Dhaka to get home to their villages for the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

With seats inside booked weeks ago, many had no choice but to risk their lives sitting on the roof or clinging to the sides of the carriage.

Buses and boats were also crammed to capacity in sweltering heat.

‘Every year we face many difficulties to go home,’ said bus passenger Abdul Majid.

‘Still, we take all these troubles as all the woes vanish when we can celebrate the Eid together
