Earthquake Hits New Delhi on Same Day as Bomb

A large earthquake shook New Delhi on September 7, 2011. The quake was reported across Twitter , and IBN Live reports the Delhi earthquake as measuring 6.6 in Magnitude, but that could be adjusted as details emerge. The earthquake is being widely reported across Twitter and on Reuters, but there's no sign of it yet on USGS.

Earlier the same day, a bomb blast at the Delhi High Court Building killed nine people:

Delhi Bomb Explosion Kills 9, Injures 42

The quake was felt in New Delhi and across the NCR (National Capital Region).

We will update this story as it develops, and you can see live Twitter updates below.

Many people, who felt the earthquake, posted comments that it was short in duration, but strong in power. One such, from Earthquake-report.com (http://earthquake-report.com/2011/09/07/strong-5-8-earthquake-in-india/): (though the site reports it as 4.6.)

a brief duration of almost half a minute….of strong tremors…felt like could have more

A bit more detail about the EQ's location:

The tremors were felt in the north Indian regions of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and parts of the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand.
Some people reportedly felt tremors as late as 11:32 pm Wednesday in remote places in the hilly state, which is about 200 kilometers closer to the epicenter.
.....
The location of the epicenter was reported by the seismologists in New Delhi as 29.58 North latitude and 80.73 East longitude, roughly on the India-Nepal border.

Yes, MorningSong, The bomb link is interesting. Maybe coincidental, maybe not.
I'd seen one report about that while looking for info on the eq and it, too, caught my eye:

An earthquake rocked India's capital Delhi Wednesday night around 11.30pm.
eTN Publisher Juergen T Steinmetz was sitting in his Hyatt hotel room on the 4th floor.

The electricity was out, and it sounded like a violent explosion in the lobby.
Lights came back on 2 minutes after the violent explosion sound.
It appeared everything was back to normal. At 12.30 am (an hour later) another smaller explosion sound rocked the hotel and the lights went off again for 30 seconds. The earthquake was measured at 4.2

Sorry, it's a very late post. I found out that India has 4 different zones that categorize the zone of earthquake into the most dangerous zone which is Zone 1 to the least one which is Zone 4. India is bordered with Nepal. Some of the people in India also got affected when earthquake hit Nepal last year. India is located on fault that is cracks created from stresses built on plate edges. Where do earthquakes occur most of time (http://www.whatcausesearthquakes.com/where-do-most-earthquakes-occur.htm)? That made them vulnerable.
