Thousands of starfish have been washed up on a beach in Devon.
The sea creatures were stretched out for more than a mile across the beach in Budleigh Salterton.
The BBC's John Henderson visited the beach and spoke to Lauren Davis of Devon Wildlife about the occurrence.

Thanks guys for this great information. I've bookmarked the earthquake cloud site. First time I've heard about this kind of forcasting. Very interesting.
About the starfish, I read a while back that melting icebergs decrease the salinity of the the ocean waters thereby affecting the food chain from the bottom up.

BANDUNG, Indonesia, March 19 (UPI) -- Seventeen of 18 volcanoes in Indonesia are on alert status and emitting toxic gas, a federal monitoring agency said.
The mountains are safe to visit as long as tourists stay at least a half-mile away from the gas-producing craters, Indonesia's Volcanology and Geology Hazard Mitigation Center said.

Icelandic Volacano Eruption
By GUDJON HELGASON, Associated Press Writer Gudjon Helgason, Associated Press Writer – 46 mins ago
REYKJAVIK, Iceland – Authorities evacuated hundreds of people after a volcano erupted beneath a glacier in southern Iceland, Iceland's civil protection agency said Sunday.
The eruption occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday (1930 EDT) beneath the Eyjafjallajokull glacier, the fifth largest glacier in Iceland. The volcano is covered by an ice cap.
Fearing flooding from the glacier melt, authorities evacuated some 400 people in the area 160 kilometers (100 miles) southeast of the capital, Reykjavik, as a precaution but no damage or injuries have been reported, said Vidir Reynisson, the department manager for the Icelandic Civil Protection Department.
A state of emergency has been declared in communities near the 100 square mile (160 kilometers) glacier.
"We do not at this moment know the full extent of the eruption but a team is flying over the site now to evaluate the situation," said Reynisson.
Three flights from the U.S. — departing from Seattle, Washington; Orlando, Florida and Boston, Massachussetts — were diverted to Boston because of the volcano. All domestic flights were also canceled until further notice, the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service Reported.
A European volcanic island in the North Atlantic, Iceland is largely an arctic desert with mountains, glaciers and volcanoes and agricultural areas in the lowlands close to the coastline.
The last time the volcano erupted was in the 1820s.

The Plough (part of Ursa Major) is moving erratically, normally gliding south-easterly and sinking in the sky, tonight in a short time it has twisted 45 degrees, I can't tell the time by it any more, and it is almost above? This has happened within 1 hour - can't take pictures as my camera is not good enough. Anyone any ideas of the astronomical circumstances??? Thanks

Strange about the Plough Avid... I'll check tonight if its clear!!
China's sandstorms blast Beijing with dust, sand
BEIJING – The dust works its way through keyholes and window frames, and smells like a filthy brew of dirt, smoke and metallic particles. The sky turns magenta and whole buildings disappear. Eyes tear up and throats get sore from coughing.
Northern China's spring sandstorms blew in with particular ferocity over the weekend, bringing misery to people working outdoors Monday in Beijing and across a wide swath of the country.
"It gets in your throat, under your clothes, in your bed," said Beijing street sweeper Xue Yuan. "I hate it, but there's really nothing you can do."

quote...
things which must shortly come to pass;
And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
And the kinds of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters, and they became blood.
Bible, Book of Revelations
A second countdown sign is a fine red dust, unmistakable as it cannot be confused with any other natural occurrence. Ponds and rivers turn red, the blood color mentioned in the Bible's book of Revelations, with this iron ore dust giving the water a brackish taste. This countdown sign comes almost in step with the rapid slowing in rotation, as the 12th Planet must be between the Earth and the Sun for the trash in its tail to be sweeping the Earth. Again, this occurs a day or so before rotation stops.

Winter Beach Erosion: What Does this Mean for Your Summer Vacation?
Severe weather this winter, followed by a series of damaging nor'easters is responsible for extensive beach erosion through the Northeast, causing some beaches to be washed away and making homes and buildings structurally unsafe.
Some of the worst damage has been reported in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia and even as far down the coast as North Carolina.

And now its Taiwan...
Taiwan was hit by its worst sandstorm in history on Sunday.
The Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) said on Monday that the sandstorm came from Inner Mongolia. The EPA said the storm could continue to affect Taiwan on Tuesday, especially in areas to the south of Hsinchu country.
An official with the EPA, Chu Yu-chi, said the situation is the worst in 25 years.
"A total of 39 dust level monitoring stations reported that the concentration of fine particles in the atmosphere exceeded 1,000 micrograms per cubic meter per hour," said Chu. "This has never happened in the 25 years since the stations were built. When compared with past statistics, (we can see that) this sandstorm is affecting [Taiwan] for a longer period than ever before, which helps explain why the concentration level is [higher]."
The sandstorm is not only polluting the air, it is also affecting visibility. The EPA is calling on those with respiratory and cardiovascular diseases to stay indoors as fine particles exceeding 1,000 micrograms could pose a health hazard to human beings.
Meanwhile, National Taiwan University atmospheric science professor Hsu Kwong-zong said it remains to be seen whether similar sandstorms will affect Taiwan on a frequent basis in the future.

China continues to pump pollution into the air and sea... There is so much plastic circulating in the whirlpool in the Pacific that it could rebuild New York city... So thick in the center that you can almost walk across it...
The administration's report said that about 147,000 square kilometres (59,000 square miles) of China's coastal waters failed to meet standards for "clear water" last year, an increase of 7.3 percent over 2008.
China's coastal waters last year suffered 68 red tides, or algae blooms, caused by excessive sewage in the water that affected 14,100 square kilometres, 3.4 times the area affected by such blooms in the 1990s, the report said.
http://www.treehugger.com/468_china-pollution-prob-001.jpg
http://www.treehugger.com/china-polluted-water.jpg
The pollution in the air is so bad it is killing off the plant life that has held back the desert, which is approaching their main cities faster than ever thought possible. These sand storms will become a regular event now and it is getting too late to turn it around...
In some select areas “soils are approaching pH values at which potentially toxic metals such as Al and manganese (Mn) could be mobilized,” the authors write, concluding that “overall, anthropogenic acidification driven by [nitrogen] fertilization is at least 10 to 100 times greater than that associated with acid rain.”

One survey found that a third of mainland China is regularly soaked in acid rain and half of the cities and counties surveyed receive at least some acid rain. In some places every rainy day is an acid rain day and limestone buildings are dissolving in the acid air. The Guangdong-Guangxi-Guizhou-Sichuan basin south of the Yangtze is the largest single area in the world affected by acid rain pollution. A study in the early 2000s found that one third of crops in the Chongqing area had been damaged by acid rain.

Desertification: Much of the country’s land is rapidly turning into desert. To quote one study by an environmentalist: ‘Desert expansion has accelerated with each successive decade since 1950. The Gobi is marching eastward and is now within 150 miles of Beijing. Some deserts have expanded to the point where they are starting to merge. Satellite images show the Bardanjilin in north-central China pushing southward toward the Tengry desert to form a single, larger desert, overlapping Inner Mongolia and Gansu provinces. To the west in Xinjiang province, two much larger deserts – the Taklamakan and the Kumtag – are also heading for a merger.’

More dust storms - not China related this time:
"The sudden storm sparked frightened text messages about supposedly killer acid rain, but meteorologists say the weather comes from the harmattan, a yearly trade wind that brings dust from the Sahara Desert through Nigeria and the rest of West Africa. This year, however, the harmattan has come at an abnormal time, a possible result of global warming. Experts say it may delay the rainy season in Africa's most populous nation and there are worries it may even throw off future seasonal changes."

Sand Dunes are now only 70 Kilometers from the capital of Beijing... They say this storm might have moved it forward another 5-10...
The Anglo Saxon plan talks of releasing a bug on China, but if this continues, they are already poisoning their water, breathing air unfit for humans and running out of land to feed their population.
China's huge army might not be looking at Russia to give better positioning to aid Iran, it looks like it might be to expand the 7% of China that is available to farm and to find clean water for them to drink...

Earth Changes: What Earth changes? Naaaaaa must be your imagination...Lets see how it goes the next few weeks hey!!!
http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/pic2143.jpg
Are we seeing increasing evidence of telluric disturbances as were predicted as the Earth and Solar system move progressively closer to the centre of the galaxy? The actual crossing is due to occur on that auspicious date, the Winter Solstice, December 21, 2012, but before that happy event, the strains produced on the Earth’s geomorphic structure are destined to produce radical disturbances such as increasing earthquake activity, tsunamis, normal and super volcanoes, gamma ray bursts, the suoerwave and the really big one, polar shift!
The authoritative USGS website records significant (i.e. over 5 on the Richter scale) earthquakes today, March 23, 2010, off the coast of Aisen, Chile; yesterday, in the Santa Cruz Islands, Luzon, Philippines, Southeast of Easter Island, the Southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge and in Southern Peru. For the previous day, we have Vanuatu, Tonga, offshore Bio-Bio, Chile and the Southwest Indian Ridge. for the day before that, we had Guatemala Guatemala, Libertador O’higgins, Chile, Cuba Region, south of the Aleutian Islands and the big one of the four day period, New Ireland Region, Papua New Guinea at 6.6; now that’s just on four consecutive days! Over the period of three weeks, we have seen six earthquakes of over Magnitude 6:
http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/281.jpg
* Magnitude 6.7 OFFSHORE BIO-BIO, CHILE March 16, 2010
* Magnitude 6.5 NEAR THE EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN March 14, 2010
* Magnitude 6.9 LIBERTADOR O HIGGINS, CHILE March 11, 2010
* Magnitude 6.1 EASTERN TURKEY March 08, 2010
* Magnitude 6.8 SOUTHERN SUMATRA, INDONESIA March 05, 2010
* Magnitude 8.8 OFFSHORE MAULE, CHILE February 27, 2010.
The Ring of Fire is most definitely heating up: Japan, Chile, Philippines and Indonesia. Do I begin to make my point?
The USGS website says “It is estimated that about 700 shocks each year have the capability (to rattle windows and cause minor disturbances) when centered in a populated area. Since a major portion of the world’s earthquakes each year center around the rim of the Pacific Ocean (Ring of Fire), referred to by seismologists as the circum-Pacific belt, this is the most probable location for today’s earthquake. But it could hit any location, because no region is entirely free of earthquakes.“ One cannot deny the evidence of the over Magnitude 6 quakes, cited above, however.
http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/346.jpg
As for volcanic activity, Iceland’s volcano is active, ready to blow spectacularly, with recent eruptions in the Philippines. The ones to watch however are the decade volcanoes namely, from Wikipedia – “the 16 volcanoes identified by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI) as being worthy of particular study in light of their history of large, destructive eruptions and proximity to populated areas.”
The 16 current Decade Volcanoes are as follows:
1. Avachinsky-Koryaksky, Kamchatka, Russia
2. Nevado de Colima, Jalisco and Colima, Mexico
3. Mount Etna, Sicily, Italy
4. Galeras, Nariño, Colombia
5. Mauna Loa, Hawaii, USA
6. Mount Merapi, Central Java, Indonesia
7. Mount Nyiragongo, Democratic Republic of the Congo
8. Mount Rainier, Washington, USA
9. Sakurajima, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan
10. Santa Maria/Santiaguito, Guatemala
11. Santorini, Cyclades, Greece
12. Taal Volcano, Luzon, Philippines
13. Teide, Canary Islands, Spain
14. Ulawun, New Britain, Papua New Guinea
15. Mount Unzen, Nagasaki
16. Vesuvius, Naples, Italy

Then there’s the superwave phenomenon that come in three cycles of 26,000 to 28,000 years, 11,500 years and 5,700 years, coinciding with the Mayan calendar. One of which is due any minute. One of the effects of these is the EMP – ElectroMagnetic Pulse – having effects similar to what a high-altitude nuclear explosion would do in the atmosphere, namely a crucial burn-out of all electronic circuitry (that means, in short, the global power grid) and other fascinating catastrophic events. You can read more about these, if you have sufficient patience and/ or intelligence on – http://projectcamelot.org/lang/en/paul_laviolette_interview_en.html

Russia's top weatherman today announced that the winter now drawing to a close in Siberia may turn out to be the coldest on record
Some 63 days were colder than minus 25C and 39 days below minus 30C.
For this part of Siberia, this represents the coldest conditions in 40 years and the second harshest winter in 110 years.
Equivalent statistics for colder eastern Siberia have not been issued yet.
The coldest recorded temperature in the recent winter is believed to have been minus 57.4C degrees in Oymyakon on 20 January.
The remote town in eastern Siberia is the coldest inhabited community in the world.
'When we say that this winter in Siberia was record breaking, we are aware that temperatures on some days of other years may have gone lower, but in the most recent winter the substantial cold was staying longer than usual and over larger regions than usual,' said Dmitry Kiktev, deputy head of Rosgidromet.
'There were periods of so-called "monotonous cold" when the weather was less diverse, and the cold remained strong and stable to record levels.'
Mr Frolov also offered bad news for Russians hoping for a speedy respite from the long winter.
'We can officially say that beginning of the spring in Russia is postponed for another seven to 10 days,' he warned.
http://www.fourwinds10.com/resources/uploads/image/48665-2.jpg
Beryozovka, Russia: The beginning of the spring in Russia has been postponed for another seven to 10 days, according to a Russian weatherman
The Urals and Siberia would continue to face 'winter-like temperatures' well into April, while European Russia would be below average, he said.
Climate change adherents say the planet is warming due to man-made factors but Russian expert Professor Arkady Tishkov said yesterday that Siberia and the world are in fact getting colder.
'From a scientific point of view, talk about increasing average temperatures on earth of several degrees are absurd,' he said.
'Of course we can't say that global warming is a myth and falsification. In many regions of planet the temperature is higher than expected because of human impact.
'But the climate system of the planet is changing according to different cycles - from several years to thousand of years.
'From the scientific point of view, in terms of large scale climate cycles, we are in a period of cooling.
'The last three years of low temperatures in Siberia, the Arctic and number of Russia mountainous regions prove that, as does the recovery of ice in the Arctic Ocean and the absence of warming signs in Siberia.'
Mr Tishkov, deputy head of the Geography Institute at Russian Academy of Science, said: 'What we have been watching recently is comparatively fast changes of climate to warming, but within the framework of an overall long-term period of cooling. This is a proven scientific fact.
'The recent warming - and we are talking tenths of a degree at most - is caused by human activity, like forest elimination, the changing of landscapes.
'The greenhouse gases so much discussed now do not in fact play big role. We have to remember that all the impact of industrial enterprises in Russia cannot be compared with one volcano eruption on our planet.'
On the latest Siberian statistics, Mr Kiktev said: 'This winter does not prove that global warming is a myth, just as recent warm winters do not prove it does exist.
'These are just small peaks in the climate process. What they show, if anything, we will be able to judge in tens of years from now.'

And in a very short span under our watch, they are disappearing from
our forests and ecosystems.” - Scott Darling, Vermont Wildlife Biologist
March 25, 2010 Louisville, Kentucky - A week ago in Louisville, Kentucky, the federal Fish and Wildlife Service held a meeting with federal and state biologists March 15-19, to work on a national implementation plan for white-nose syndrome that continues to kill hibernating bats in huge numbers. In some bat hibernation sites this winter, 99% of the bats are dead! One site is the Graphite Mine in New York’s Adirondacks. This once had the largest count of Little Brown Bats in North America – about 200,000 animals. But recently, the count is down to only 2,000.

Just found this which I thought was interesting...mainstream...
Russian appeal of 'weather control'
Standing by an open hatch on a Russian military plane high up in the sky is tricky.
All the more so when your job is to "seed" clouds, shovelling chemicals outside to cause rain.
These seeded clouds never make it to Moscow, where millions are enjoying a nice sunny holiday. Or where guests might be dancing at a wedding under the clear blue sky.
Some might think that controlling the weather sounds a bit like science fiction.

Just wanted to say a brief thanks to those who provided links to the IRIS and EDIS sites - I'd been looking for something like that for a long time but didn't know where to start. Also, I can use these sites to work out whether the dizzy spells I have every now and then are related to earthquakes somewhere in the world. I have no proof to date of this of course, but it's just a gut feeling. So many weird dreams lately . . . you can never tell.

Chile rattled by 6.1-magnitude aftershock
SANTIAGO, March 29 (AFP) - Chile was rattled by a 6.1 magnitude aftershock Sunday causing no damage or injuries but some panic in Concepcion, near where last month's massive quake struck killing 452 people, authorities and eyewitnesses said.
The earthquake struck at 5:43 pm (2143 GMT), with its epicenter located offshore at 166 kilometers (103 miles) north of Concepcion, at a depth of 19 kilometers (12 miles), the US-based Geological Sury's National Earthquake Information Center said.
No alert was issued by the US-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
"No damage was reported to people or infrastructure from this earthquake," Chile's National Emergency Office said.
Some people in the central port city of Concepcion, however, rushed out of their homes into the street as a precaution, an AFP reporter said.
On February, an 8.8-magnitude quake and tsunami centered around Concepcion in Chile killed at least 452 people and caused some 30 billion dollars in damage, with nearly 100 people still missing.

Severe storms, tornadoes lash Southeast
(CNN) -- A broad band of severe thunderstorms Sunday sparked heavy rain and hail and prompted tornado warnings from Florida to Virginia, with multiple twisters reported in North Carolina, according to the National Weather Service.
At least eight unconfirmed tornadoes were spotted along North Carolina's I-85 corridor between Charlotte and Greensboro, with overturned mobile homes, toppled trees and downed power lines left by the storms, the weather service said.

The full Moon 2/28: predictions and insights ... Interesting article about weather patterns around the full moon!!!
Amidst violent winter storms in the US and Europe and the earthquake in Chile we have come to full Moon in Virgo. What makes this full Moon so interesting is that it is exactly opposite Jupiter, Jupiter being exactly conjunction the Sun in Pisces bringing up gigantic tidal affects in the atmosphere that are involved in the storm systems we are experiencing now sincronus with the earthquake and tidal waves. To look at this more closely and find out possible future events in several regions of the world the following report is made from charts calculated for Greenwich, UK; Washington DC; Albuquerque, NM; Delhi, India; and various places in the world that resonate to Virgo and Pisces.
Besides the dramatic atmospheric affects of this full Moon, the polarity of Virgo/Pisces involving the Moon's opposition to Jupiter suggests that the general health of people in the world is now in danger due to contaminated water and spoiled food supplies. In addition, this full Moon is pointing out the need that the whole world is facing to change the conditions of labor connected to global finances. Conditions are deteriorating. This is a time of general transition. There are probabilities of a general rise in crime in the entire world at this juncture. Drug gangs are virulent. The conjunction of Jupiter with the Sun in opposition with the Moon brings out the worst of Jupiter. Jupiter is now very weak as it is burnt out by the Sun. In such condition and in opposition to the Moon Jupiter causes over-expansion and extravagance that results in losses, errors of judgement, injustices, and a proneness to self-indulgence and dissipation that leads to health problems. Guard your health.

END OF MARCH
by lightbulb @, Saturday, February 27, 2010, 09:41
Hello everyone.
Just to let you know, conditions for another very large quake exist at the end of March---Let's say March 30-April 2. Similar conditions to what caused the Sumatra quake in 2004. If you go to a solar simulator, you will see and earth-Mercury-venus-square Jupiter Neptune. At the same time, there is a Mars--pluto opposition and a Saturn Uranus Opposition (Moon toward Saturn on the 30th which also squares pluto--the mercury Venus is also squaring Mars) Let's put it this way---this situation has the potential to be not very pleasant.
Location? From following the moon path, It could occur again in Sumatra, Western Africa, or the northern half of South America--but I can't be precise.
This is not to say there won't be other large quakes in March. Around 15-22, we cross a large alignment of planets spanning from Saturn to Uranus. As I mentioned before, Should have a lot of rain and storms through mid March(Looking at Southern hem/equator)--with a tornado outbreak around the 15th.(Southern USA) And also, when we cross between the sun and Saturn, or there abouts, watch for volcanic activty. (could be the reason why there is a volcano in Chile on Red Alert. Chaiten, I believe.)
And everyone, don't worry about crow or humble pie. When it comes to loss of life, I would prefer to be wrong and munching blackbird pie myself.

I don't see it happening this year.

Anyway Gita, some interesting info from Craig ... saved me researching!!
Now, that the 1st Quater of 2010 is winding down, liste below is the updated the earthquake data.
U P D A T E D- 3/31/2010
2009 Earthquakes 1st Quarter
32 total quakes
26 quakes 6-6.9 magnitude
06 quakes 7-7.9 magnitude
00 quakes 8+
1,783 deaths for the year of 2009
*2010 Earthquakes 1st Quarter
*55 total quakes
50 quakes 6-6.9 magnitude
03 quakes 7-7.9 magnitude (however, I counted 13 via another seismic sight)
02 quakes 8+ magnitude
*Highest number of 6.0+ quakes for the 1st Quarter in the last 10 years. (yes, I will check further back to see the last time it might have been as high or higher)
223, 140 deaths for the year of 2010 (based on current accounted for)
Additonal 1st Quarter comparisons
Total number of quakes:
2010- 3,631 (55 1st Q)
2009- 3,997 (32 1St Q)
2008- 7,315 (49 1st Q)
2007- 6,583 (38 1st Q)
2006- 6,432 (31 1st Q)
The above information is interesting, because it shows quite a decrease in the number of quakes in the first quarter since 2006. However, when looking at all of the 1st quarter data, there's clearly an increase in magnitude and the number of higher mag quakes (and obviously where they're occuring is changing)

More than 90 record-high temperatures broken
More than 90 record-high temperatures were recorded in the Midwest and Great Lakes yesterday.
And perhaps an even better record came for the residents of Minneapolis-St. Paul in Minnesota - for only the third time in recorded history there was no snow measured during the month of March. (Records date back to 1859).
Rochester, Minnesota, shattered its old record high of 71 degrees when the temperature soared to 83 degrees yesterday. Chicago also recorded a record high temperature for April 1 of 83.
Other record high temperatures recorded:
Cleveland, Ohio – 83
Toledo, Ohio – 80
Detroit, Michigan – 80
Grand Rapids, Michigan – 82
Indianapolis, Indiana – 82
Milwaukee, Wisconsin – 82
Green Bay, Wisconsin – 75
Duluth, Minnesota – 62
The good weather may not last for everyone though. A cold front is moving across the region today that should bring an end to the record high temperatures across the region.

Rising temperature have been causing food corps destruction and rising food prices; and ground water level has gone down severely in some parts of the country that has made life miserable. It is hard to make out anything as i am in Ireland now and find heavy chemtrailing and always cloudy sky and cold weather; however in India it seems no chemtrails in the sky and and people are witnessing unprecedented heat and suffering related consequences. I found interesting video, which explains some of this mysterious phenomena; however i do not endorse the views expressed in the video!!

Interesting article...
Crust Displacement Threat
Do the Governments Know?
If an Earth Crust Displacement was imminent, be it next week, year, decade, etc., would the governments of the world tell us? Do the-powers-that-be trust us to be able to handle the news? Or, is it more likely that those in-the-know will work covertly to protect a select few from the coming doom?
Before any of these questions can be answered, we need to determine if the government could possibly know about the threat of a Crust Displacement, also known as a Crust Shift or Pole Shift. Therefore, a quick look at the nearly innumerable written reports, articles, and books is in order to show its exposure. Then a discussion of the new film "2012" will take place that will show how Hollywood views the topic.
A search of the World Wide Web on any one of the available search engines will give astonishing results. On Google alone, a search for "Crust Displacement" returns 1,800,000+ site results and the following similar topics return equally amazing results: "Pole Shift" = 420,000+, "Crust Shift" = 1,470,000, and "Polar Shift" = 2,180,000+ sites. Related anomalies, searched for, will give numerically large results also. Such as: "Mammoths in Siberia" = 400,000+ and "Mass Extinction" = 2,000,000+. All of these results are delivered in just a fraction of a second.
Granted many of these results may overlap, World-Mysteries is probably in most of these search results due to its commitment to getting the word out on a topic that appears to be ignored by science and the governments. Here at World-Mysteries, you will find many articles on these subjects and many other related topics, and probably the most extensive link list to books written on the Crust Shift/Displacement Theory.
Even with all of the repeated sites in the search results it is easy to see that there are millions of places on the web to locate information on the subject. The fact that the theory is known by multiple names, increases the odds that the-powers-that-be are aware of the phenomena. It may
be that all of this work can easily be associated with the lunatic fringe (which it is and will be discussed later) and ignored. Therefore, let’s look at other forms of media.
Books, Books, Books: Cataclysms of the Earth by Hugh A. Brown, Path of the Poles and Maps of the Ancient Sea Kings by Charles H. Hapgood, and 5/5/2000 by Richard Noone and the fiction tale(to increase awareness), The HAB Theory by Allan Eckert are books with the subject addressed that have been published as early as the 1950’s. They use real science to come to the conclusion that theory is correct. More recently, Are We Worth Our Salt? by Arthur Ryan (which gives a process cause), and When the Sky Fell by Rand and Flem-Ath have met the presses. All of these books can be purchased on-line by clicking on the titles or by ordering them through your local bookstore.
There are also a number of 1950’s and earlier era U.S. government reports that have been written that include the Crust Displacement in their discussion. A list of some of these reports is included in Brown’s book. It is highly recommended that you read this on-line available book. It is distinctly possible that there are a great number of older government reports that are yet to be uncovered.
Now, the new movie "2012" hits the theaters. In this film, scientists discover the threat based on its own causational theory. They immediately report their findings to the President of the United States, who, in turn, fills the other world leaders in on the impending disaster. The characters tell us (without elaborating) that the greatest scientific minds have confirmed the phenomena and determine that there are no preventative measures available. So, thanks to the conspiracy minded opinion that Hollywood can sometimes have towards the-powers-that-be, the movie depicts the actions taken to protect a very few, select people. Some are chosen by genetics, some for intellect and, of course, government leaders are to be saved. For the purposes of this article, it is not important to tell you that a survival spot could be purchased by the very rich. We just need to know that the government plan is to save some and, until the last minute before all hell breaks loose, keep normal folks unaware of the disaster.
Simple logic explains why the government in this fictional tale and probably in reality would keep us in the dark.
Our basic survival instinct will cause numerous problems. It would become increasingly hard to get up out of bed to go to work, therefore our economy would crash. Our rush to stockpile specific food goods and tools, including weapons, would create shortages that would become unbearable as the moment of the event drew closer. Our monetary systems will collapse as we slowly became aware that coins and bills will be worthless after the cataclysm. Now comes the dark-side of our survival instinct, we knowing that we will require things to increase our chances of survival and not having the means to procure them, we will, as a collective, end up in a battle of the "haves" and the "have-nots". The world population will become uncontrollable. This run amok situation would not be pleasant and could really disrupt any plans or programs that the governments put in place to ensure mankind’s continued existence. All of this would come from those of us with a conscience, those of lesser moral character would act in ways that most of us could not even imagine.
With the above in mind, it becomes painfully obvious that the governments of the world would not inform us about a real possibility of an Earth Crust Displacement. It also appears that it is near impossible for the-powers-that-be not to know that this theoretical phenomena exists. So, before we answer whether or not the governments are working covertly to implement a protection program for the select few, let’s ask how is the theory being treated and why?
When you consider that reports issued by government organizations in the early to mid 20th century include an Earth Crust Displacement, you would think that this theory would be considered mainstream science. This thought is also strengthened by the words of Albert Einstein weighing in on the subject in the book Path of the Poles by Hapgood. There can be little doubt that this theory, having come to light during the period of time when science was most open to new ideas, should have been given serious consideration and afforded a chance to be debated in the appropriate forums. This was not to be!!
For some unpublicized reason, the theory was ignored. Completely dismissed without so much as a "How-do-you-do?" This in itself is strange, when you consider that educated people have written on the subject. The individuals who wrote the government reports were obviously qualified. Brown was an educated and experienced engineer. Hapgood
was a University Professor, and, of course, Einstein could be considered the premier in intellect. Yet, no one listened!!
Eckert, also an educated man, is said to have been a guest speaker at a major university when he became aware of the theory. Having written numerous books, he could have written is own version on the subject; however, it appears that he could tell that a new non-fiction book would not have an impact. Eckert must have decided to try and reach more people and therefore wrote his fiction tale in hopes of fostering awareness in the masses. Not withstanding the impact that his work had on Ryan, the tale met with lukewarm reviews and only as to its entertainment value and nothing was said about the science of its content.
In the mid 1980’s, a copy of Eckert’s book ended up in Ryan’s hands. Unlike the apparent masses just seeing the tale for its entertainment, Ryan took notice of the science. The theory had a ring of truth that Ryan did not want to accept; but, he did not have a convincing argument opposing it. He then set out on a trek to attempt to prove it wrong. This trek took numerous years and did not reach its intended destination. Ryan, being a full-time employed, independent researcher with a college education, spent free time investigating the validity and history of the theory. His trek ended with him publishing his own work in support of the theory that provided for a natural recurring process that would enable the Crust Displacement. His thought was that the theory had been ignored due to a lack of a cause. And, like his predecessors, his book failed to gain the attention of scientists. Something else had to be afoot!!
As outlined above, there are numerous other works on the web and in print version that the government and science not only ignored but categorized in special section for the lunatic fringe. Alternate or pseudo-science, new-age, and even uneducated are tags given to any works that include the theory. Even a mention of the theory on a web-based science forum receives hostile, disparaging remarks.
The most unusual event takes place, when a practicing scientist writes something possibly favorable to the theory. These brave individuals find their reports unpublished, grant money drying up, reputation amongst peers smeared, and even dismissal from employment. This
treatment is on par with the attacks leveled on scientists that suggest that Einstein was wrong with the speed of light as a constant. Which really seems strange. Consider that Einstein can not be wrong with the "C" constant; but, he is completely crazy for endorsing the Crust Displacement Theory in Hapgood’s book.
Arguments to support this double standard concerning Einstein’s endorsement state that he could be excused his thought because he was unaware of tectonic plate existence and movement; thereby speaking without knowledge of an alternate process. However, the existence of tectonic plates and their ability to move does not refute the Crust Displacement Theory, it actually is an enabling factor to the process. A deeper look at tectonic plates and their effects displayed as earthquakes, further support the theory. Ask a scientist for the cause of an earthquake and you are told that it is a release of built up stress between tectonic plates. A simple answer that lacks depth. This answer fails to give you the cause of the stress in the first place. For a look at the underlying cause of this stress review http://www.sciencedoubt.com/sub/16writers/ryan/platestress.html.
Even more questions for scientists that get shallow answers are – How was the Dead Sea Formed?, Why are fossils even present when you consider the effects of oxidation and predators (Review The Creation of Fossils - Defeating Erosion)?, Are Wooly Mammoths really cold weather animals?, and What process enables a salt flat to form? (See How Are Salt Flats Formed?).
There are many, many more such questions that have answers that are expected to be accepted without providing for "Cause and Effect". It is not adequate to tell us that Pangaea (a theoretical super-continent) once existed without explaining the mechanics behind its separation into smaller divided landmasses. Tell us how it happened including its underlying mechanics; and, if they don’t know, they should find out. Or, is it possible that the-powers-that-be have those answers and collectively they point to a Crust Displacement?
Let’s not forget that the majority of the grant money doled out to scientists come directly or indirectly from the governments of the world. The organizations that make up the donating/investing minority of the remainder of the funds spent on research, more than likely feel the extreme power of our governments in other ways and even if there was enough funds available to support Crust Displacement research, they would probably be forced in other ways to remain mute on the subject.
There are a couple of examples where the theory is given serious consideration. Italian university students conducting research in the deserts of North Africa are told that a tectonic plate shift moved that region from the tropics to the present arid spot it now holds. A step in the right direction!!
The other is a study conducted by a group led by Adam Maloof of Princeton University that was released in 2006 available and commented on at http://www.sciencedoubt.com/sub/06earth/shiftacceptance.html. The report states that a tilt to maintain earth’s balance was confirmed, which sounds just like a Crust Displacement. It would be interesting to find out what happened with regard to further research that they wanted to do. Did the funding come through or remain in place, or did Maloof meet with enough pressure to cause him to return to the traditional dogmatic fold?
There can be little doubt, at this point, that the governments of the world would not tell us about the truth as it relates to the Crust Displacement Theory and, in turn, would work covertly to save only a select few from the coming doom. There are some overt examples, which could be cited that suggest that possible governments programs may already be in motion. Just one is the Government of Norway storing seeds in tunnels and onboard ships so that they can survive a cataclysm. Do you think they would spend money on this project if there were not a very real possibility for doomsday? Probably Not!!

The first one is now said to be 7.2..... I know that many of you do not "do" the cliff high web-bot thing. However his program came up with 6 more "BIG ONES" in 2010... ALSO coastal changes so bad that "big brother" will demand people do not go near the coast. That was in a Maybe could happen part of the lexicon however....
My point is.
I have been watching this earth change thing for many years. You see no one had been told that Mt. Saint Helens was "fixen to blow" not those living in the mud flow or anyone in ash feild it was near panic all over the area for a few days there. After that I made it my plan to know what was going to happen. So with that big shift going on there and the Yellowstone activity and the whole thing with Mr. Rainer and even Mt. Hood well it is a wait and see.
I had to be in L.A. for a "meeting" about 12 years ago the hotel convention host was the LAX area and all over the room was the warnings. Do not be near glass yet the place was covered with mirrors, and just the whole people piled in on top of each other like an ant farm made me swear I will not go to S. CA again. I have passed up on more than one chance but still able to hold to that.
I have been in one good quake before and I do not care for riding on one ever again.

Marsili seamount: tsunami threat for Southern Italy? Scarey...
Mount Marsili is a 3000-metre high seamount beneath the Tyrrhenian Sea, 150 km south-west of Naples. Marsili is active and recent research has indicated signs of restlessness (see this 2006 paper in PDF), although the risks of any dangerous eruptive activity are very slight). In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, the director of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), Dr Enzo Boschi, has reminded everyone that Marsili is active and that there is a potential threat of an eruption/collapse generating a tsunami that would threaten Southern Italy:
It could happen tomorrow. The latest research says that the volcanic edifice is not strong and its walls are fragile. Furthermore we have measured the magma chamber that has formed in recent years and it is of large dimensions. All this tells us that the volcano is active and could erupt unexpectedly.
According to the article, observations indicate that hydrothermal emissions from vents around Marsili have become more intense recently, and evidence of landslides discovered by the oceanographic research vessel Urania last February ‘indicate an instability impossible to ignore’. Dr Boschi warns that a flank collapse at Marsili ’would displace millions of cubic metres of material, which would be capable of generating a wave of great power’. Marsili is currently unmonitored, observes Dr Boschi: ‘A network of seismometers should be installed around the edifice, connected on land to a volcano monitoring centre. But this is beyond the budget’.

Magnitude 7.8 quake shakes Indonesia's Sumatra
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100406/wl_nm/us_quake_indonesia
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A major earthquake of 7.8 magnitude shook the northwestern coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the U.S. Geological Survey said on Tuesday.
A local tsunami watch was in effect for Indonesia, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.
"A destructive widespread tsunami threat does not exist based on historical earthquake and tsunami data," the center said.
But it added "there is the possibility of a local tsunami that could affect coasts" no more than 100 km (62 miles) from the epicenter of the quake.
The quake was centered 127 miles west-northwest of Sibolga and was at a depth of 28.6 miles, the USGS said. It initially reported the quake's magnitude at 7.6.
In December 2004, a magnitude 9.15 quake off the coast of Sumatra's Aceh province triggered an Indian Ocean tsunami that killed about 226,000 people in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and nine other countries.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8606438.stm
A tsunami alert has been issued after an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
The quake's epicentre was 204 km (127 miles) northwest of Sibolga on Sumatra's coast, at a depth of nearly 48km, the US Geological Survey said.
Three aftershocks were reported in the northern state of Aceh, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the world's most active areas for earthquakes and volcanoes.
It has recently been struck by string of quakes; one off Sumatra in September killed more than 1,000 people.
The latest quake struck at 0515 on Wednesday morning (2215 GMT on Tuesday).

I can't believe this is really happening. I think it's time that we all get prepared. Check-out the Off the Grid threads on the site. There's alot of good information there if your thrown back to the stone age beacause of the earth changes.
Another thing that I put off bringing up is that this is the 3rd earthquake in a row where I turned in for the night and the next morning I found out about a huge earthquake. Every single time I tossed and turned all night long ! Infact this morning, I couldn't get up for work because I had a total of 3 hours sleep. This is really bugging me.

:bolt:I have been following quakes for several years (as a hobby - not in a scientific way) and it does seem that 2010 is off to an alarming start. Many of my husbands co-workers have been talking to him about 2012 and how they plan to start stocking up on things next year. Right before I heard about this recent quake in Sumatra I told him that they need to start stocking up now. Then we heard the news about the quake - for about the gazillioneth time - he told me I scare him :p
I agree with Violas - don't put off getting ready for a potential rough stretch of road ahead!

Up to 100 dead in Brazil after worst rains in 50 years
Up to 100 people have died in Brazil after the most intense rains in half a century turned roads into rivers, triggering flooding and mudslides.
A state of emergency has been announced in the Rio de Janeiro area where most of the mudslides occurred. Officials warned that the death toll of 95 will probably rise.
Scores of houses in the hillside shanty towns that ring Rio were buried by mudslides, and flooding was so intense that the city's residents were urged to remain indoors and not venture into the centre, where streets were impassable.
Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes said in a statement: "The situation is chaos. All the major streets of the city are closed because of the floods. Each and every person who attempts to enter them will be at enormous risk.''

I mentioned this previously that they were playing things down... just found this!
New Madrid IS Quaking - USGS Ignoring the Quakes!
Here is a Link to the Webicorders around the New Madrid Fault
I am putting a couple of pictures in of some of them! For a few weeks I have been saying New Madrid over and Over - it seems USGS is IGNORING ALL the Quakes happening along the fault line! Why?
The webicorders are showing quakes all over the area - I would even say Swarms of quakes!
All of the below are the webicorders today - 3/7/10 - all of them are at various places around the New Madrid - more show quakes too - but this is a good example of what is going on!
The Clouds are showing lots of movement - now I know the USGS is IGNORING The quakes and Earth Movement happening around there.

Hi Guys,
I can't believe this is really happening.
Hi, Yiola, I have the same reaction/anticipations. I toss and turn all night, and finally just get up. I also experience an earache that is mostly pressure, but not screaming painful like an ear infection. My ear canals feel like they are sinking. I think it's a symptom of an unbalance that wants to be released. I will now go to the sites that show geomagnetic storms, and I will start tracking how long between the release from the sun, the earache and restlessness, and then the big quakes. Certainly not a scientific study, but I am looking for a trend and how long between incidents. I'll let you know, if you will do the same. The link I will use to track the geomagnetic storms is on NOAA. Linda

Hi Linda,
Thanks for the confirmation. I knew that there were more like us out there. I will check out NOAA and keep a log as well. I think that I can guage it by the number of times I wake up during the night. When things were relatively calm, I would wake up 1 to 2 times at the most. Lately it's been more like 5 to 10 times.
Now that you bring up the subject of ear aches, I too have had something that feels like a low grade ear infection.
By the way, Jeff Krupp, one of my favorite modern day philosophers had 2 shows on the earthquakes:

Thanks, Viking. I always heard that the New Madrid would go before the biggest California quake. Don't know if that means anything at all, but it does concern me because I would be directly affected. We have had up to 4.1 in the past few years. I can feel quakes under my feet and it's like being on a large sailboat in rippling waters. Then, of course, there are the window rattlers. Those are usually over by the time you realize they're happening. Thanks for the link, so very much. Time to update that earthquake kit 'round these parts. Wish us a happy landing, whenever that may come. I'm keeping calm, I think! Linda

Found this on my travels...
There are more volcanoes erupting today, simultaneously, than in the memory of man.!!!
http://api.ning.com/files/uEvITGjVHMfjRZjUUFUVh0xa7uIv5XBJBVoB52cbLV5K9LnX29myaCrJfz54T5FvCFZ9PPaKgvBExti9tanZX-OpvooWXMhv/volcano.gif
A "Historical" eruption, documented during or shortly after observation, is the best evidence for inclusion. We list more than 540 volcanoes with historical eruptions, the criterion used by many people terming a volcano "active." However, we have tried to provide more even coverage of the globe's volcanoes, many of which carry no written record until 80 centuries after the first historically documented eruption in our file (Central Turkey, in 6200 BC). To do this we have included 183 volcanoes with dated eruptions during the last 10,000 years, as determined by techniques such as "Radiocarbon" dating. For volcanoes with different eruptions dated by different techniques, we have entered the technique that seemed to confirm Holocene activity most certainly. We should mention, however, that the "Anthropology" status covers volcanoes with undated (but recent) activity described in native legends as well as activity dated by buried artifacts.

Yes ! I know that I've mentioned this before somewhere but. My house faces South. About 3 years ago I was between jobs for an entire year, so every afternoon I would sit on my front porch and face west and watch the sun set behind the hills in the distance. Now when I'm home at sunset on the weekends my view of the setting sun is obstructed by neighboor's trees across the street. The trees which have always been their are situated sw of my house. Which means that the sun is setting in a more southerly direction.

Regime warns Iranians a massive earthquake is imminent
http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/WTARC/2010/me_iran0289_04_...
NICOSIA — The Teheran regime has expressed concern over an imminent major earthquake in Iran.
Officials said the government assessment was that Teheran would be the focus of a massive earthquake that could destroy major parts of the capital. They said the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has drafted plans to re-settle up to 1.1 million people.
This marked the first warning by the president of a major earthquake in Teheran. Officials said government specialists have concluded that an earthquake in the Iranian capital was imminent.
"Iran is criss-crossed with fault lines and is regularly hit by earthquakes, experiencing at least one slight tremor every day on average," Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency said.
"The government will provide the necessary facilities for the people of Teheran to live in other cities," Ahmadinejad said.
The last major earthquake to have struck Iran was in 2003 when more than 26,000 people were killed in Bam. The earthquake led to an examination by the Iranian government to move from Teheran.
Officials said the government has established shelters throughout the Teheran region. They said 25 emergency facilities were being prepared in Teheran to provide temporary accommodations for 1.1 million people.
The largest shelter was located in a soccer stadium. Officials said the Civil Defense Department has equipped Azadi Stadium with tents, food and emergency supplies in preparation for a disaster.
For his part, Ahmadinejad warned Iranians of the prospect of a massive earthquake in Teheran. The president warned residents to prepare to flee to other parts of the country.

Earthquake risk in California
Apr 10 - Apr 15; Earthquake risk in California Very high earthquake risk will cover the Los Angeles area and Southern California from April 10-15. A significant earthquake (5.0 to 6.5) is likely April 10-15, more likely April 11-14 and most likely on April 12-13. Since March 24th the faults across the Southern portion of California have been very "hot" according to the data here at quakeprediction.com. Please have extra food, gas, water, and emergency kit ready over the next week. (5.0+) earthquake is possible in Northern/NW Cal

It would seem that most of the most critical earthquakes lately have this common denominator:
Depth 10km
I have questioned this many times in the old forum, and even requested explanations from specialist seismological institutes to no avail.
There are very many at decimal-placed depths, but 10km crops up too often in bad quakes.
Shallower depths have been recorded of course - but they are seemingly not so 'critical' if one 'follows the money/political advantages' of those involved in 'rescue/reconstruction' and potential local government changes.
Is 10km the HAARP target depth?
Chile was mostly 35km... (there are a lot of 35s cropping up globally now).
However:

I know all of you have seen my question as to why there have been 3000 earthquakes in a week around San Diego, and this map...
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/Maps/US2/31.33.-116.-114.gif
I had a dream where I saw San Diego as an island a few years ago, and it is more than curiosity of what is going on right now, I'm worried...
Has this whole inner bay of Baja California been created the same way?
If it is about to settle and allow the ocean to reach up to where these earthquakes are centered, that would mean Baja California would be cut off from the mainland of Mexico just east of the Capital of Mexico's state of Baja California...
There are 1 Million people living in Mexicali, are preparations being made for a just in case scenario?

Viking, you are right. It's a lot, lot, lot of earthquakes. I've looked at the USGS site for many years now. I have not seen so many, nor such a close clustering, especially in So. Cal and Alaska. There are so many in So. Cal that you can't see 'em all for being on top of one another. Anyone with legs to walk is there right now because they choose to be. They must know and are willing to go along for the ride. Maybe Baja wants to be an island. May they have smooth sailing! Linda

Hey thanks Morning...let hope its not the calm before the storm!!
Just found this...
More moving and shaking, but why?
The number of earthquakes greater than magnitude 4.0 in Southern California and Baja California has increased significantly in 2010. Scientists are studying the uptick but cannot fully explain it.
If you've been feeling more shaking this year, it's not your imagination.
The number of earthquakes greater than magnitude 4.0 in Southern California and Baja California has increased significantly in 2010. There have been 70 such quakes so far this year, the most of any year in the last decade. And it's only April. There were 30 in 2009 and 29 in 2008.
Seismologists said they are studying the uptick but cannot fully explain it. Major earthquakes tend to occur in cycles, and experts have said the region in recent years has been in a quiet cycle when it comes to sizable temblors.

Tsunami in Peru'!
From RSOE:
Situation Update No. 2
On 13.04.2010 at 17:55 GMT+2
Authorities have declared a state of emergency in the province of Carhuaz in Peru’s Ancash region after part of a glacier broke off into a lake creating a massive wave that flooded nearby towns. “The towns that are in a lot of danger are Hualcán and Pariacaca, which have been blocked off,” the president of Ancash, César Álvarez, told RPP radio station. Álvarez added that the residents are being taken to other areas for their safety. Álvarez said he has requested a helicopter from Interior Minister Octavio Salazar in order to access areas affected by the flooding and determine the damage. Peru’s Civil Defense is also working on transporting drinking water to Carhuaz from the capital of Ancash, Huaraz. According to daily El Comercio, the ice block broke off the Hualcán glacier and crashed into Lake 513. The glacier reportedly measured approximately 500 meters long by 200 meters wide and created a 23 meter wave that flooded the towns of Hualcán, Pariacaca, Acopampa and Carhuaz and damaged a potable water plant. Six people were originally reported missing, however five were later located — three unharmed and two with minor injuries, according to daily La Republica. Peru is home to some 70 percent of Earth’s tropical glaciers. The country’s glaciers, which feed hydroelectric plants and provide drinking water to Lima, the world’s second largest desert city after Cairo, Egypt, are in the process of accelerated meltdown due to global warming. According to Peru’s National Resources Institute, or Inrena, the Andes Mountains have lost at least 22 percent of their glacier area since 1970.
Situation Update No. 1
On 13.04.2010 at 10:49 GMT+2
A huge glacier has broken off and plunged into a lake in Peru sparking a 23-metre high tsunami wave that destroyed a nearby town. The massive chunk of ice - around the size of four football pitches - tumbled into the '513 lake' in the Andes near Carhuaz, around 200 miles north of Lima. According to the Indeci civil defence institute, 50 homes have been destroyed. A water processing plant serving 60,000 local residents was also devastated when the wave struck on Sunday. Initially, six people were reported missing, feared dead under the debris - but local governor Cesar Alvarez has said five of those have been found alive. Authorities evacuated mountain valleys, fearing more ice breakages after the tsunami - which are most commonly caused by earthquakes. Blaming climate change, Mr Alvarez said: "Because of global warming the glaciers are going to detach and fall on these overflowing lakes. This is what happened." Investigators have said the ice block from the Hualcan glacier measured 500m by 200m. Patricio Vaderrama, a Peruvian glacier expert, said: "The tsunami wave breached the lake's levees, which are 23m high - meaning the wave was 23m high." Peru is home to 70 per cent of the world's tropical icefields.

Situation Update No. 4
On 14.04.2010 at 06:07 GMT+2
A magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Wednesday killed about 300 people in the mountainous Tibetan Plateau in southwest China and left more than 8,000 injured as houses, schools and offices collapsed. A series of quakes and aftershocks caused low, brick buildings in Qinghai Province's ethnically Tibetan Yushu county to collapse, residents and state media said. Troops have been dispatched to the area. About 300 had been killed in the county seat, also known as Jyeku, state television said, citing the deputy secretary-general of the Yushu government, Huang Limin.
The Tibetan plateau is regularly shaken by earthquakes, but casualties are usually minimal because so few people live there. Many residents of the remote area could be left without shelter in temperatures that hover near freezing in Yushu, and even colder in the high mountain villages. Government officials told state media the majority of houses had been badly damaged. "I see injured people everywhere. The biggest problem now is that we lack tents, we lack medical equipment, medicine and medical workers," Zhuohuaxia, a local spokesman. That the early morning quake had caused some schools and part of a government office building to cave in. Some vocational school students and primary school students were trapped in the rubble, it said, although residents said students at some schools had been able to flee to the playgrounds.
People from the Yushu prefecture highway department were frantically trying to dig out colleagues trapped in a collapsed building, department official Ji Guodong said by telephone. "The homes are built with thick walls and are strong, but if they collapsed they could hurt many people inside," Zhuo De told Reuters by phone from the capital of Qinghai province after contacting his family in Yushu. The quake was centered in the mountains that divide Qinghai province from the Tibet Autonomous Region. The foothills to the south and east of the area are home to herders and Tibetan monasteries of Yushu county, while the area to the north and west is arid and desolate. The quake was centred 150 miles (240 km) north northwest of Qamdo in Tibet and 235 miles (375 km) south southeast of the mining town of Golmud in Qinghai, and had a depth of 6.2 miles (10 km), the United States Geological Service said. A magnitude 5.0 quake struck the same region late on Tuesday night, and aftershocks of magnitude-6 and over rattled the town Wednesday morning, sending fearful residents into the streets.
Situation Update No. 3
On 14.04.2010 at 03:42 GMT+2
Chinese media say at least 67 people have died and others are trapped under rubble in Qinghai province after an earthquake said to be magnitude 6.9. The quake struck at 0749 (2349 GMT) 380km (240 miles) south-south-east of the city of Golmud, at a depth of 10km, according to US Geological Survey data. It appears that at least some of the deaths occurred in Qinghai's ethnic Tibetan town of Yushu. The quake was followed by two tremors measuring 5.3 and 5.2. "Soldiers have been dispatched to save the people buried in the collapsed houses," local official Huang Limin was quoted as saying by China's state news agency Xinhua. "Certainly there have been people hurt," one resident told Reuters news agency. "Rescuers are trying to pull them out. A lot of one-storey houses have collapsed. Taller buildings have held up, but there are big cracks in them." People from the Yushu prefecture highway department were frantically trying to dig out colleagues trapped in a collapsed building, department official Ji Guodong told Reuters by telephone. Zhuo De, an ethnic Tibetan resident of Yushu, who spoke by phone from the capital of Qinghai province, Xining, after contacting his family in Yushu, said dozens of people might have been hurt. "The homes are built with thick walls and are strong, but if they collapsed they could hurt many people inside," he said. AFP news agency notes that the remote high-altitude region is prone to earthquakes. The region, which is home to ethnic Mongolians and Tibetan farmers and herdsmen, is dotted with coal, tin, lead and copper mines, it adds.

At least 67 people died and many others were buried under the debris after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit northwest China's Qinghai Province early on Wednesday, the China Earthquake Administration said.
Situation Update No. 1
On 14.04.2010 at 03:15 GMT+2
A rapid series of strong earthquakes hit China's Qinghai province early Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. At least one person was killed and many others were buried under the debris after a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck at 7:49 a.m. local time (7:49 p.m. ET Tuesday). The epicenter was about 150 miles (240 kilometers) northwest of Qamdo, Tibet, in a remote area that is sparsely populated. Qinghai borders the autonomous regions of Tibet and Xingjiang and the provinces of Gansu and Sichuan. USGS also recorded two strong aftershocks -- of magnitudes 5.2 and 5.3 -- within half an hour of the quake. Citing the China Earthquake Networks Center, Xinhua said the quake hit the county of Yushu, a Tibetan region of Qinghai. It said residents near the epicenter reported casualties and collapsed buildings. Karsum Nyima, deputy director of news at local Yushu TV,said that most of the houses in the area were made of wood with earthen walls. He said some had come tumbling down, including a Buddhist pagoda in a park

REYKJAVIK, Iceland — A volcano under a glacier in Iceland erupted Wednesday for the second time in less than a month, melting ice, shooting smoke and steam into the air, closing a major road and forcing hundreds of people to flee rising floodwaters.
Authorities evacuated 800 residents from around the Eyjafjallajokull glacier as rivers rose by up to 10 feet (3 meters).
Emergency officials and scientists said the eruption under the ice cap was 10 to 20 times more powerful than one last month, and carried a much greater risk of widespread flooding.
"This is a very much more violent eruption, because it's interacting with ice and water," said Andy Russell, an expert in glacial flooding at the University of Newcastle in northern England. "It becomes much more explosive, instead of a nice lava flow oozing out of the ground."
Rognvaldur Olafsson, a chief inspector for the Icelandic Civil Protection Agency, said no lives or properties were in immediate danger. Scientists said there was no sign of increased activity at the much larger Katla volcano nearby.

So, after yesterday's tectonic disappointment, I bring good news! If you like volcanoes, anyway. Our old friend Eyjafjallajökull, who we thought was stopping, is in fact not stopping. At all. News have been coming out of another eruption this morning following a large earthquake swarm overnight, this time underneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier itself, most likely in the volcano's central caldera (crater).

Icelandic volcanic ash alert grounds UK flights
Airline passengers are facing massive disruption across the UK after an ash cloud from a volcanic eruption in Iceland grounded planes.
In Scotland, all airports are shut and there is disruption at many others including Manchester, Liverpool, Stansted, Newcastle and Birmingham.
The Air Traffic Control Service (Nats) imposed restrictions after the Met Office warned ash could damage engines.
Passengers are being advised to contact their airlines prior to travel.
Experts have warned that the tiny particles of rock, glass and sand contained in the ash cloud would be sufficient to jam aircraft engines

Hopi Elders Say Earth Changes Are Upon Us
by Simon Hunt
During the past week there have been a few events that deserve our attention, thought, and examination.
In an unprecedented and totally unexpected way, Hopi Elders for the first time in history have openly shared their sacred, and heretofore secret prophecies with the world. Robert Ghost Wolf, noted Native American Prophet and author arranged for two Hopi Elders to appear for three hours on the nationally aired Art Bell show (out of Pahrump, NV) and freely discuss their sacred, and heretofore secret prophecies. It has been said by many who have had limited access to the prophecies in the past, that the Hopi prophecies of the coming earth changes are among the most ancient and accurate available. The Elders have come forth at this time because they believe that we have passed the point of no return and major changes are imminent, beginning within the next few months. It is their hope to “soften” the effects by appealing to all to return to a simpler, more spiritual way of life.
Last month at Spiritual Endeavors (and returning again this coming month) noted author, environmentalist, and channeler, Rev. Fred Sterling carried much the same message. Rev. Sterling emphasized that "The Great Shift" has already begun. It is happening now. In other related recent events, Gordon Michael Scallion, Robert Ghost Wolf, and other modern day prophets began predicting major Earth Changes, especially noticeable in the state of California among other places, beginning this summer. And now the Hopi Elders have gone on national radio with the same message.

Update from Colin Andrews...interesting read...
Since this page was posted there have been even more serious Earthquakes and signs of increasing earth changes
including the quakes in Chile, Mexico and China - Today Volcanic ash from a sudden March 4th eruption from the
glacier field in Iceland is causing severe disruption to air travel throughout Europe due to fear of ash damaging the
engines of aircraft. British Authorities have informed the public that no health danger exists (currently). We should
note that the last time a volcano erupted like this in Iceland was 1783 when a similar situation existed and many people
died across Great Britain. Experts studying weather patterns working with geologists and government
departments in UK say that the wide scale flight disruptions now in effect across Europe could last for
days or even weeks - wider scale disruption might form as the cloud envelopes wider bands around the
Earth. As these significant earth changes become evident we should keep an eye on super volcanic possibilities. Also
note that we have been watching an area below the Pacific, off the north east coast of Australia where monitoring
equipment indicates the sea bed is rising at an alarming rate (more on the way shortly)

China earthquake: death toll could reach 10,000
Published: 1:47PM BST 16 Apr 2010
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china/7597627/China-...
The official death toll now stands at 760, with a further 243 missing and 1,174 severely injured, according to Xinhua, the Chinese government news agency.
However, monks at Jiegu monastery said at least 1,000 corpses had arrived at their temple alone, and that four other monasteries had each collected a similar number.
"The government is downplaying the number," said Ge Laidanzeng, a 20- year-old monk. He said that when all the bodies were retrieved from the wreckage of the town there would "definitely be more than 10,000 dead".
Meanwhile, the first teams of rescue workers equipped with sniffer dogs and heartbeat detectors arrived in Jiegu, hampered by the 12-hour journey from the nearest major airport in Xining.
As they clambered over the rubble, however, it was soon clear that hopes of any further survivors were fading fast.
Wen Jiabao, the Chinese prime minister, spent a second day in Jiegu, visiting the Tibetan Tranga monastery around six miles outside town.
Between 60 and 70 monks were buried at the site, and although rescuers were able to detect one faint heartbeat, they were unable to work our how to reach the victim.
More than 100 students and 12 teachers also lost their lives in the earthquake, bringing back a grim reminder of the thousands of students who died two years ago in the Sichuan earthquake.
So far, however, there have been none of the accusations of shoddily built school buildings that became a controversy in Sichuan.
Relief supplies continued to trickle in to the Jiegu, but with the entire town's population of 100,000 sleeping in the open, the supplies of tents, blankets and food were quickly snapped up, leaving thousands of people still in need.

"The USGS says that the quakes in California could be the beginning of a period of more frequent and stronger quakes for the area. The 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck on Easter may have triggered fault lines up and down the West Coast.
The USGS ia also warning the Pacific Northwest to be prepared to a huge quake and tsunamis. Towns and cities are preparing evacuation routes and places of safety as best they can.
Meanwhile, Utah experienced its largest tremor in 18 years. This region near Salt Lake City could have a 7.5 at any time. It is long overdo.
Oklahoma has had 50 quakes already this year which have even put a crack in the state capitol building. The normal amount of tremors for Oklahoma is 4 for the whole year. but, The USGS says--don't worry. I think you should."

Earthquake shakes parts of Idaho

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- A magnitude 4.9 earthquake has rattled parts of Utah, Wyoming and Idaho.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries Thursday evening.
University of Utah officials say the quake hit just before 6 p.m. The epicenter was about five miles east-northeast of Randolph in Rich County.
Randolph is about 73 miles northeast of Salt Lake City. People in the state capital also reported feeling the temblor, along with some reports of shaking in Idaho and Wyoming.
A dispatcher with the Rich County sheriff's office says the temblor was strong enough to shake pictures on the wall.

Utah earthquakes leading up to volcanic action?
Large earthquakes — above 4 on the Richter Scale — are occurring in Utah at about a normal rate, but geologists say it seems much higher.
Thursday evening's quake on the Utah/Wyoming border is number 27 so far this year in Utah. That one near Randolph was one of the strongest in the state in 75 years, according to seismic station reports, the U.S. Geological Survey and professional quake watchers.
Although there was little to no damage Thursday at the surface of the epicenter, some 77 miles northeast of Salt Lake City, that doesn't mean that it wasn't geologically significant. If the current pace continues, more than 90 significant earthquakes will occur by the end of the year.
Between April of last year and now, there were 80 large earthquakes, according to the USGS, which is quick to point out quakes are just part of the natural give and take in the supporting land mass miles below Utah's surface.
Whenever there is a seismic event in the Mountain West, it's a pretty good bet the Yellowstone National Park caldera is involved. It is a still-active volcano and massive slab of fractured fault-split of land centered in Wyoming.

As UK goes further into the dept hole!!!
The Icelandic volcano, which has brought travel chaos to Europe, is showing no signs of abating, scientists have said, raising the prospects of further days of flight bans across the continent and more misery for air travellers.
The Eyjafjallajokull volcano began erupting on Wednesday, sending ash several kilometres into the air, and generating a plume of particles that has spread across much of Europe grounding thousands of aircraft.

"There doesn't seem to be an end in sight," Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson, an Icelandic geologist monitoring the volcano, said on Saturday.
"The activity has been quite vigorous…, causing the eruption column to grow," he told the Associated Press.
At the same time, meteorologists have said the weather patterns blowing the massive plume of ash towards Europe will continue for at least two days and could go on until the middle of the week.
Slow dispersal
"Currently the UK and much of Europe is under the influence of high pressure, which means winds are relatively light and the dispersal of the cloud is slow," said Graeme Leitch, a meteorologist at Britain's National Weather Service.

Volcano travel chaos spreads
How ash can damage aircraft
"We don't expect a great deal of change over the next few days."
Scientists say that because the volcano is situated below a glacier, the magma is being cooled quickly, causing explosions and plumes of fine grit to be ejected high into the atmosphere.
Together the combination of the eruption, the clouds of ejected ash and the prevailing weather conditions have brought European air travel grinding to a halt.
Aviation experts say that the tiny particles of rock and glass spewed out by the volcano - while almost invisible to the naked eye - pose a serious threat to aircraft jet engines and could cause a catastrophic failure.
As a result, countries across Europe have shut down all or part of their airspace, grounding tens of thousands of flights and stranding millions of passengers – both in Europe, and even as far afield as New Zealand and California.
On Saturday some 17,000 flights across Europe were cancelled – a normal Saturday would have seen around 22,000 flights.
Shutdown
Among the latest developments, authorities in the UK, Germany and Ireland announced that the suspension on flights would be extended until at least 1200GMT on Sunday.
The shutdown has turned departure boards red at airports across Europe [AFP]
France meanwhile has said that all three main airports in the Paris area and several others across the north of the country would be closed until at least 0600GMT on Monday.
Italy has also closed its airspace in the north of the country until at least 0600GMT on Monday while Poland said it was shutting its airspace "until further notice".
The closure of Poland's airspace and the broader travel disruption has stopped world leaders from flying to the southern Polish city of Krakow for Sunday's funeral of the country's late president Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria.
The Kaczynski couple were among 96 people, most of them senior Polish government figures, killed in a plane crash in Russia on April 10 on their way to a World War II memorial service.
Authorities have permitted some low-level flights in the south of Poland, however, which is how the Polish Air Force will be able to ferry the Kaczynski's coffins from Warsaw to Krakow aboard a propeller-powered military cargo plane.
With the prospect of further days of travel chaos, airlines and aviation officials have begun to look at ways to dodge the threat posed by the ash plume.
In Germany, some low-level flights have been cleared under so-called visual flight rules, under which pilots do not rely on their instruments.
On Saturday German carrier Lufthansa, Europe's largest airline, took advantage of those regulations to fly 10 empty planes from Munich into Frankfurt flying at a maximum height of 3,000 metres – less than a third of a jet's usual cruising height – and in close coordination with air traffic control.
The airline said the move was to have the aircraft in the right place when the restrictions are finally lifted.

Dutch airline KLM has also said it plans to carry out a test flight from Amsterdam's Schiphol airport to Dusseldorf, flying at 3,000 meters or lower, and is hoping for approval to carry out more low-altitude flights if the ash problem continues.
Switzerland meanwhile has taken the opposite tack, saying it is looking at allowing flights to travel through Swiss air space as long as the aircraft stick to a height of at least 11,000 meters or above.
As the grounding continues, the airline industry, still reeling from the impact of the global financial crisis, is facing daily losses of at least $200m, the International Air Transport Association has said.
And with little sign of when the ash will clear, some airlines have said they may have to consider job lay-offs and other measures to deal with the financial impact.
Crisis
Al Jazeera's David Chater, reporting from southern Iceland close to the volcano, said that the simple fact was that nobody knows how long the eruption will last.
"Vulcanology is a complex science, but it is not an exact science," he said.
"We'll just have to wait and see."
He said it was a real crisis for the aviation industry, but also for the people living near the slopes of the volcano whose land and farm animals are being poisoned by the thick clouds of ash.
Edwin Zanen, a Dutch geologist who is in Iceland observing the volcano, said the inferno driving the eruptions had shown no sign of easing and was, if anything, growing in strength.
"It's a real inferno we're looking at," he told Dutch state broadcaster NOS.
"There's absolutely no sign that the thing is calming down. On the contrary, we can see that at this moment it's extraordinarily active."

Interesting article...They'll be taxing us on water soon....!!!
UK water use 'worsening global crisis'
The amount of water used to produce food and goods imported to developed countries is worsening water shortages in the developing world, a report says.
The report, focusing on the UK, says two-thirds of the water used to make UK imports is used outside its borders.
The Engineering the Future alliance of professional engineering bodies says this is unsustainable, given population growth and climate change.
It says countries such as the UK must help poorer nations curb water use.
"We must take account of how our water footprint is impacting on the rest of the world," said Professor Roger Falconer, director of the Hydro-Environmental Research Centre at Cardiff University and a member of the report's steering committee.

Is this the end of migration?
Climate change is affecting bird behaviour at a staggering rate. Some 20 billion have already changed their flight plans
It's rained three times as much as usual this winter in Andalusia, and almost every day unemployed amateur ornithologist Javier Caracuel has walked past a disused mining tower in the decaying industrial town of Linares and looked up, expecting the pair of white storks that nest there to have migrated south.
Yet despite the surrounding high noise levels – the tower, some 10 metres high, is jammed between a school and a street clogged with traffic – and Andalusia's wettest winter in decades, the storks have stayed put. And they're not alone. "There have always been a couple of storks at the top of the church spire down by the railway station, but I've never seen so many across town," Mr Caracuel explains, "and there are dozens more in the villages."

Iceland: Katla will erupt within 7 days
The eruptions and ash disturbance from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano might be waking up its neighbor, Katla. If this is the case, the results could be globally devastating. Activity at
Katla has risen 200% in the last two days.
The earthquake build up since the beginning of the year and subsequent eruptions at Eyjafjallajokull seem to be triggering the larger neighboring volcano, Katla. For the last two
days, Katla has shown a dramatic 200% rise in activity. Geophysicists at
Iceland’s Institute of Earth Sciences call Katla a vicious volcano that
will be locally and globally damaging.
Katla’s last eruption started in 1821, along side an eruption at Eyjafjallajokull. Katla has a pattern of erupting in sequence with
Eyjafjallajokull. However, Katla is different. It is much larger and it
will make the present eruptions in Iceland look mild in comparison.
Scientists say that although Eyjafjallajokull eruptions are less
frequent, Katla eruptions are significantly worse and larger.
Historically, Katla has been shown to wake up whenever Eyjafjallajokull
does, and sometimes on its own. This is why it is believed that Katla
will erupt and it will be soon. Due to the up tick in activity, the
locals believe that Katla will erupt in approximately 7 days.

Hey just read this from Stuart Swerdlows site. He has some interesting info.
"There is information coming from Mexico that is not being released on other media. It is even secret in Mexico, but many know about it.
We know that after the 7.2 quake on the border of Mexico and California on Easter, sulphorous water emerged from the ground and sunk many homes. Baja separated from the mainland by 3 meters.
Now, we are getting info that underground military bases in California are being evacuated. Another major, catastrophic event is building fast.
We are also hearing that in May this year, an artificially generated tsunami will occur in the Western Pacific and possibly strike the west coasts of the US and Mexico. This is why there is so much preparation in San Diego and Oregon.
We now know that Russian military saboteurs are stationed throughout the US and a gas or dirty bomb event is possible. We don't know where yet, but most likely in the southern or southwestern US.
We also have discovered that Russian agents AND Israeli Mossad are in Northern Mexico and and facilitating the so-called drug wars and murders. None of this will ever be on the news.
The second half of 2010 and the first half of 2011will see major events that have never been seen on Earth before. The Icelandic ash and the grounding of planes is part of Kuiper Belt sabotage. They are planning their own event.

Stuart Swerdlow is, like many, making huge profits from people's fear. He is using the natural cycle of life and destruction here on earth, as a tool to suit his own means. I will not except the fact that there are people controlling these disasters, they may wish they can, but mother nature, and earth do not obey the feeble plays that some believe are happening now.
Anyone, looking outside of the box, and into the much bigger picture, can see that we are smack dab in the middle of great earth changes, there will be never before heard of storms happening now. But, they have happened before, most not in our own recorded history.
He is a very good salesman, to the unsuspecting person, which makes him, in my eye, dangerous. He takes everyone's research, studies, and books, then makes a little short story using all the main points. He does not miss a trick in this business.
I feel we are in the "calm before the storm" stage, that quiet moment before the gong strikes.
Earth changes are definitely on the rise, with less time in between some of the major players.
Right now, in southern ont., I am feeling kinda of smug, all safe and sound, enough food to hunt and gather if necessary, & water everywhere . Barring nuclear war, this place is looking pretty good to ride out this earth cycle and her evolution. Don't worry, I may feel smug now, but I am fully aware that my circumstances can change in a heartbeat, along with everyone else around me.
I am not strapping myself in for the ride, I plan to ride it as wild as it wants, going with the flow of changes, not fighting it, but feeling it with all my senses.

"expect an earthquake in a few days"
This afternoon, approximately 12:00pm, EST, I saw a video on the front page of CNN.com that startled me.
It discussed how the people of southern california should BRACE for an earthquake in the next COUPLE OF DAYS. These words were used. The reporter began standing on top of the san andreas fault line, then discussed the unusual number of earthquakes (CNN had previously posted an article qouting scientists saying all was normal). The video continued with a webcam interview with someone who has been predicting earthquakes by measuring the temperature of the soil. The video showed a USGS picture of earthquakes in the LA / Baja region, that someone posted to my previous CNN blog post.
As many of you know, people on this site and other prediction sites have been predicting a quake near LA for weeks, so it came to me as a shock CNN would discuss this openly. I believe this is a hint, a nudge by the Puppet Master, which may have been taken done after realizing how it may startle the populace. I firmly believe something is going to happen in the next few days, and am calling my friends in that region to either take a vacation, or stock up on earthquake emergency supplies.
Someone posted up the video. Here it is. http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/04/20/rowlands.the.next.bi...

How long will this disrupting eruption last?
As Europe writhes in agony, millions of people are asking this question, desperately praying for relief from the paralysis of the airline industry caused by an Icelandic volcano.
This eruption is a perfect storm, a combination of wind and ice conditions that has turned an ordinary eruption into a crisis. Last month, the same volcano erupted harmlessly. But last week, magma found a second pathway to the surface, this time beneath a glacier. When hot magma touched ice, it instantly created a burst of steam and produced glassified silicates. The sudden expansion of steam created a colossal explosion that sent billowing clouds of glassified silica ash three to five miles into the air over Europe. The ongoing eruptions of the volcano, which continue unabated, are caused by a series of steam explosions as magma continues to encounter glacial ice.
There are three scenarios for what could come next:
1) The best scenario is that over the next few days either the magma spends itself or the ice finally melts. Without ice, the eruption will become an ordinary one. Scientists have tried to send airplanes to the volcano to analyze how much ice is left, but even these airplanes were grounded by the clouds of ash.
2) The most likely scenario is a repeat of the 1821 eruption by the same volcano. That eruption sputtered off and on for 13 months. If this occurs again, European aviation may have to play cat and mouse for several weeks to months. Planes will only fly when the jet stream is blowing a certain direction or when the volcano is relatively quiet. Under this scenario, pilots will be in constant fear of encountering ash, which can shut down a plane's engines and sand blast its windshields to such an extent that it is impossible to see through them. There have been about 90 airplane encounters with volcanic ash since 1980, and in one instance all four of the plane's engines were shut down, almost causing a tragedy.
3) The worse case scenario, which is unlikely, involves this eruption triggering another, larger eruption. There are 35 active volcanoes in Iceland, and one eruption has been known to set off another. The worse case happened in 1783, with an eruption lasting eight months. That eruption killed off much of the livestock and agriculture in Iceland, which in turn caused the death of about 25% of the island's population.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand – A 5.9-magnitude earthquake hit near the Pacific island of Tonga on Thursday, but no casualties or damage were reported and no tsunami warning was issued.
The quake struck 65 miles (135 kilometers) northeast of Hihifo, Tonga, at a depth of 21 miles (35 kilometers).
Many residents of American Samoa felt the quake and went out to look at the ocean while listening to radio broadcasts.
"Nothing is registered on our censors for tsunami waves," according to Carol Baqui, a forecaster with the American Samoa weather service.
No tsunami warning was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii.
Police in the Samoan capital, Apia, said they had no reports on the temblor. "We didn't feel any earthquake," an officer, who declined to be named, said.
Julie Dutton, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colorado, it was a relatively small quake.
"Right now we don't have any reports of it being felt. It's pretty far off the coast so we're not anticipating anything damaging," Dutton said.
Preliminary estimates put the quake at 6.2, but that was later downgraded to 5.9.
A magnitude 8.0 earthquake close to neighboring Samoa last Sept. 29 killed 34 people in American Samoa, 183 in Samoa and nine in Tonga, when tsunami waves up to 46 feet (14 meters) high crashed ashore. It also created a sea floor fault up to 190 miles (300 kilometers) long and 23 feet (7 meters) deep.
About 90 percent of the world's temblors occur in the so-called "Ring of Fire" — an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones that stretches around the Pacific Rim."

Third Earthquake Since Tuesday Hits East Tennessee
Posted: Apr 22, 2010 4:08 PM
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Residents of Blount County in East Tennessee have experienced their third earthquake in less than 48 hours.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake at 10:14 p.m. EDT Wednesday, measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale. Over 400 people reported feeling the quake on their website, usgs.gov.
WVLT in Knoxville reported several emails and calls from residents who described it as a "big jolt" that shook their houses.
The earthquake was centered about two miles west-southwest of Maryville with a depth of 1.1 miles.
Officials with the Blount County emergency dispatch center told WVLT the quake prompted several calls, but there were no reports of damages or injuries.
The earthquake was the third to strike the area since Tuesday morning, when a 3.3 magnitude earthquake woke some East Tennessee residents. The U.S. Geological Survey reported a small 1.6 earthquake just five minutes later.
The epicenters were all within a half mile of each other.
Kristin Parker with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency in Nashville said there were no reports of injury or damage from the larger quake, but said the agency received a lot of phone calls reporting the shake.
Some reported noises that they at first thought was thunder.
One man said he was walking the family dog when he felt the earth shake. He said his wife thought he had run into their house with his truck.
A person in Alcoa said the house shook and the windows rattled for about five seconds.

The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a few strong tornadoes across the lower Mississippi River Valley this afternoon and tonight.
The areas that are under the gun today include:
* Arkansas, including the city of Little Rock
* Northern Louisiana, including the city of Shreveport
* Northern and western Mississippi
* Western Tennessee, including the city of Memphis and Northeast Texas
Severe storms are also possible over eastern portions of the southern Plains, the mid-Mississippi River Valley and Nebraska.
A second wave of severe storms is expected to develop across Louisiana and Mississippi tomorrow morning and spread eastward across the Southeast. Storms will once again be capable of producing violent, long-track (EF2-EF5) tornadoes.
This could become a very dangerous situation, with tornadoes expected to continue well into the overnight hours, after people have gone to bed and are not monitoring television or radio for severe weather warnings.
The areas most likely to see tornadoes tomorrow are:
* Northwestern Louisiana
* Extreme eastern Arkansas
* Most of Tennessee, including Memphis and Nashville
* Most of Mississippi
* Most of Alabama, including Birmingham and Huntsville
* Extreme northwestern Georgia.
Surrounding this area, isolated to scattered severe storms will be possible. There’s a good chance of severe storms with damaging straight-line winds overnight Saturday in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Looks like they were playing this one down!!
Sunday, April 25, 2010: By Gu Qing’er Epoch Times Staff
By April 22, the official earthquake death toll in northwest China’s remote Yushu, in Qinghai Province, is listed as only 2,187, but local people claim that number is dramatically underreported.
Qinghai Jiegu Temple abbot Angwen Danbarenqing told The Epoch Times that most of his monks were spared from the disaster, and they devoted themselves to rescue work almost immediately after the quake. “By the third day, the dead were collected for cremation together. More than 2,300 bodies were burned, and more corpses will arrive here soon. I have looked around in different places and think the death toll will reach 8,000 to 9,000,” he said.
However, a Qinghai Yushu Relief Headquarters report lists the death toll at 2,187 with 80 missing and 12,135 injured, including 1,434 severely injured. This report was issued at 5 p.m. on April 22. Besides Tibetan victims, many migrant workers from the Han and Hui races were killed in the quake. A local rescuer said that the local regime did not count them among the death toll because these people normally live in poor conditions.
Another local rescuer named Zeng said that many migrant workers from neighboring Sichuan Province also died, and their bodies have been transported to their homes. “The situation is so bad,” Zeng said. “We don’t understand why the media have not come here to report. Many people have no food and no place to stay, particularly the Tibetans. I saw many monks carrying out rescue work by digging in the snow.”
According to rescuers, no official earthquake relief teams appeared in many of the severely affected counties, although Beijing’s media repeatedly announced that rescue materials were continually shipped to the disaster regions. Moreover, official rescue efforts were only organized in town centers where government facilities, schools, and shop buildings are located. The countryside has been left to fend for itself for several days. Abbot Angwen Danbarenqing added, “We have a lot of people here who were severely affected by the quake. There is a shortage of supplies to help them.” According to official data, the population of Yushu is 100,000, including 40,000 in Jiegu County and 60,000 in surrounding rural areas. http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/content/view/34051/

County / State State of Assam City
At least two people drowned overnight as flash floods triggered by heavy rains inundated more areas in Assam, displacing over 150,000 people. A thunderstorm also swept parts of the state, damaging homes and uprooting trees, electric and telephone poles, officials said on Saturday. A government spokesperson said up to 250 villages in four districts have been hit by the floods so far - Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jorhat and Tinsukia. Two youths drowned late on Friday in the Dibru river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra in Tinsukia district in eastern Assam, when they went in a country boat to collect timber floating in the river. A vast stretch of the Dibru Saikkhowa National Park in Tinsukia has come under water with forest guards forced to move out of the sanctuary, besides the wildlife scampering for safety. 'We don't know if the floods have swept away smaller animals like deer. We are unable to go inside the park due to rising water,' a park official said. An estimated 100,000 people are now displaced in the worst-hit Lakhimpur district alone, about 400 km east of Assam's main city Guwahati. 'Most of the flood-hit people are now taking shelter in raised platforms, on railway tracks, and also in government schools and offices so far untouched by the floods,' the official said. A Central Water Commission bulletin said the Brahmaputra and its tributaries were flowing above the danger mark in at least eight places. Gushing floodwaters had breached at least four vital mud embankments in the state.

Wow! Here's a report of an Earthquake that happened on Thursday, the 22nd, that didn't make it onto any of the lists I have consulted:

6.2 Earthquake Rattles Philippines
Buildings Shake, Sending Frightened Workers into Streets, But No Reports of Damage, Tsunami Warnings
PS: I have been noticing numerous EQs appear on the lists, then dissappear...is that because they were errors? Were they deep ocean EQs and because they did no damage to people/nations, they are "scubbed"? Now there's this one that did not even get reported on until yesterday...hmmm.

TAIWAN - PHILIPPINES
Strong earthquake between Taiwan and the Philippines, no casualties
The 6.9 magnitude earthquake occurred this morning at 10:59 off the Philippines. The quake has shaken buildings in Taiwan. Currently there is no building damage or tsunami alerts. Possible local phenomena of high tides, within 100 km from the epicentre.
aipei (AsiaNews / Agencies) - An earthquake measuring 6.9 struck an ocean area north of the Philippines this morning. The earthquake occurred this morning at 10:59 local time and was felt on the island of Taiwan, shaking public buildings and private homes. Currently there are no reports of damage or injury, or a tsunami alert.
The epicentre of the quake was located about 300 km off the Batan Islands, in the Philippines, and 314 km south-east of Taiwan. The Philippine authorities have warned people living near the coast of a possible sudden rise in tides. However it seems unlikely that have been any damage or injuries. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre adds that there could "possibly" be small tidal waves locally, within 100 km from of the earthquake epicentre.
The United States Geological Survey reports that the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km. For Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau, however, the epicentre of the quake occurred 20 km deep, with an intensity of 6.6 on the Richter scale.
The Taiwan authorities explain that the quake rocked the buildings, but there were no structural damage. The island is often the scene of violent earthquakes, which originate from the fault that crosses the Pacific. One of the most devastating occurred in September 1999 a magnitude 7.6 quake killing 2,400 people and destroying 50 thousand buildings across the island.

No reported injuries!!
The USGS reported it as a 6.5 but Taiwan is calling it a 6.9. I noticed a lot of the USGS numbers were lower than reports from the countries of earthquake orgin. Such as mexicali was called a 6.9 by usgs and a 7.2 by mexico. Seems we are downplaying the severity.

Volcano spews sand, ash over Guatemala
AFP
The Santiaguito volcano showered sand and ash on Monday over a large area of western Guatemala in an "unusual" and "violent" display, the national seismological institute said.
The institute said winds were carrying the ash in a northeasterly direction from the 2,500 metre (7,500 foot) high volcano in the province of Quetzaltenango, 206 kilometres west of the capital.
The ash plume spread across six provinces, raising fears of damage to crops, the institute said while classes were suspended at schools in three provinces.

Hey All,
Thought I would add this to the thread. It has several links that may be worth monitoring.
"In 2009 and into 2010, the middle northern latitudes of earth experienced a sudden shift from a warming trend to a cooling trend, while the warming trend remained in place in polar regions. For example, while Mongolia, Europe, Siberia and the United States were having their coldest winters in years, the high arctic was experiencing a comparatively mild period.
This is not consistent with global warming predictions, which anticipate continuous warming, but it is consistent with the climate change expectations that brought this section of Unknowncountry.com into being in the first place.
Climate change of the type we are experiencing now has happened many times on earth over the past three million years. At the beginning of this period, the land bridge that is now Central America rose, cutting of the great transoceanic current that had kept earth's weather stable, with mild seasons and, for the most part, little polar ice, for millions of years."

Korea Shivering With Unusual Cold
Park Si-soo
Staff Reporter
Spring is overdue ― way long overdue. And for office worker Beh Hye-lim, a portable heater is still a must-have item in her office in southern Seoul.
Despite efforts to stay warm, the 27-year-old has been struggling with cold from chilly weather for days.
``Warm rays of sunshine were usual at this time in previous years. But it's literarily freezing,'' she said sneezing.
The entire Korean Peninsula is shivering with a record-low spring chill ― the midday high temperature for Seoul recorded 7.8 degrees Celsius and 6.7 degrees for Daejoen, 170 kilometers south from the Seoul, Wednesday, the lowest for late April since 1908, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).

Oil from massive Gulf spill reaching La. coast
VENICE, La. - An oil spill that threatened to eclipse even the Exxon Valdez disaster spread out of control with a faint sheen washing ashore along the Gulf Coast Thursday night as fishermen rushed to scoop up shrimp and crews spread floating barriers around marshes.
The spill was bigger than imagined — five times more than first estimated — and closer. Faint fingers of oily sheen were reaching the Mississippi River delta, lapping the Louisiana shoreline in long, thin lines.

Year on year temperature increases of up to four degrees centigrade have been discovered at an Austrian national park. Upper Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) Governor Josef Pßhringer and nature protection councillor Manfred Haimbuchner of the Freedom Party (FPÖ) said today (Weds) average temperature had risen at most checkpoints at the Kalkalpen national park by 2.1 degrees centigrade. They added temperature rose by up to four degrees centigrade in some areas of 209-square-kilometre territory. National park chief Erich Mayrhofer revealed the timber line would rise up by 200 to 250 metres over the next few hundreds of years. Mayrhofer explained no changes of any kind would be made at 75 per cent of the estate to let natural developments happen. The Kalkalpen national park is one of seven national parks in the country. It is home to more than 1,500 different butterflies, six different woodpecker species and around 30 mammals. Around 285,000 people visited the territory for hiking last year, up by 11 per cent year on year. Mayrhofer pointed out the park’s important role for the Steyr-Kirchdorf region since it created 310 jobs. Findings of rising average temperature at the national park comes just weeks after the Austrian Alps Society (OeAV) said studied had shown that 91 per cent of the Austria’s glaciers diminished in size last year. OeAV expert Andrea Fischer explained 85 of the 93 Austrian mountains the body had monitored in 2009 shrunk, while just one grew.

At Least 5 Killed From Widespread Flooding
Storms Cause Deaths, Tornado Warnings, Closed
Powerlines and trees were down in Hickman and Perry counties Sunday at 5:30 a.m. from storms that prompted tornado warnings in various counties west of Nashville. The storms, packing strong winds and heavy rain, entered Nashville at about 6 a.m.
Emergency officials were evacuating 300 residents from some flooded apartments along Murfreesboro Road near Mill Creek in southeast Nashville. However, many of those residents were refusing to leave their apartments.
Nashville residents can call 615-862-8574 if they need assistance finding a shelter. This number should be used for non-emergencies. Please use 911 for emergencies.
A shelter is open at Lipscomb University's student activity center, which will house 200 people.

Nashville currently "under water"
(CNN) -- Severe flooding killed at least five people in central Tennessee on Saturday, officials said, as floodwaters inundated roads, highways and homes in and around the Nashville area.
The National Weather Service also said 33 of 75 counties in Arkansas are under a tornado warning, and 25 counties in Tennessee are under a tornado watch.
Two people were killed Saturday when floodwaters swept them away as they tried to seek safety on the roof of their SUV about 80 miles northwest of Nashville, Stewart County emergency management spokesman Clint Mathis said.
Three more people were reported dead in counties near Nashville, a spokesman for Tennessee Emergency Management said.
Between 6 and 10 inches of rain has fallen in 12 hours in the area, causing "extremely dangerous" flooding, the National Weather Service said.
At least 2,000 people were displaced after two levees broke in Millington, a small city near Memphis, Millington Police said.
Video from CNN affiliate WZTV showed more than a dozen vehicles submerged in several feet of swift-moving water on I-24 in Nashville.
Rescue workers helped drivers escape as water surrounded their cars, CNN affiliate WSMV reported. The floodwaters pushed a home off of its foundation and into the middle of I-24.
Video from WZTV showed a school annex building floating down the interstate before breaking into pieces.

Catastrophic flooding in Tennessee
M. Ressler, Lead Meteorologist, The Weather Channel | May 2, 2010 11:45 pm ET
An extremely slow-moving storm has focused heavy rain for 2 days now across the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys. Parts of western and middle Tennessee have seen well over a foot of rain, causing catastrophic
flooding. As of late Sunday evening Nashville measured 13.53 inches of rain. In the first two days of May, Nashville has already had its wettest day on record, its wettest 2-day period on record and its wettest May on record. To the southwest of Nashville, Doppler radar estimates indicate rain totals locally over 2 feet. Rivers and streams have rapidly risen into major flood with record heights expected.
Rainfall in Kentucky has surpassed 6 inches in many locations. Flood watches remain in effect for parts of 12
states from the Ohio Valley to the northern Gulf Coast. The heavy rain will slowly shift from the mid-South into the Southeast overnight and Monday. Central and eastern Tennessee could pick up several more inches
of rain overnight. Across the Southeast, rainfall will be between 1 and 5 inches with possibly up to 8 or 10 inches in the Florida Panhandle. Overnight, the threat for severe thunderstorms will extend from the Northeast southward to Mississippi and Alabama. On Monday, the severe threat will shift into the Southeast from the Carolinas to southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Damaging wind gusts, a few tornadoes and some hail are possible. On Monday, a second area of severe thunderstorms could develop later in the day across southwest Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. The main severe threats will be hail and damaging wind gusts.

As always, I pray you are well, and I pray you are pouring love and blessings into our Beloved Mother Earth as she continues to shake and convulse her way back to her Original and Divine Blueprint. Her almost ceaseless activity is the only way in which she is able to shake off more than a reported 30 billion implants, that have infiltrated her during the 'time of humanities great illusion' and to fully re-form her crystalline energy grid in a non-duality, non-polarity firmament. This evolutionary progression is causing her as much discomfort and discord as it is causing us.
The number of actual earthquakes wracking the body of our Divine Mother Earth, not reported, is astounding in any given week (upwards of 3,500), as are the Solar Flares that are wreaking havoc, accounting for our emotional body flare-ups, brain fog, fatigue, nerve and endocrine disorders, sudden highs and lows, and other physical maladies. (Divine Mother/Divine Mirror.)
Part of the brain fog is the recalibration of the left and right hemispheres of our brain, necessary to accommodate the higher vibrational crystalline beings that we are becoming. Our brain must be able to send our bodies new accelerated signals of higher consciousness enabling us to become what we have long been destined to become, Illumined Gods in a human form, fully capable of traversing multidimensional life with ease and grace.
Previously our brains were implanted (like Mother Earth), manipulated and blocked, keeping us at polarized levels of consciousness, which in turn amplified humanity's victim and martyr consciousness. That is being changed, and requires your assistance.
New electrical energy is being ignited inside of our brains, and new neuro pathways are being opened (which was accelerated on March 20, 2010), that will help each of us see our old stories as useless and almost ridiculously inappropriate to Now life, prompting you to consciously bar them from your energy field and finally let them dissolve. The new electrical currents that first create confusion and disruption will ultimately reveal a clarity that will become the benchmark for the restored human. Soon our brain will only comprehend the Now as any form of reality, as we move into a timeless and infinite based reality.
Also, if you will notice when you have an emotional flare up, it is most often related to a belief system you (or your family) have long held... an inaccurate belief system. And yes, sometimes it appears to come from 'left field.' Don't judge it. Just notice. Every former, lingering belief system that has been held in the frequency of the third dimension is being challenged and will continue to be challenged until it reaches a zero point. At that point, as though by magic, you will be able to embrace and experience a different level of quantum perception. Your participation in letting every flare up be one of noticing, blessing and releasing will quicken your progress significantly. Self-compassion is vital.
With every tilt of Divine Mother Earth, our hearts are being tilted as well.
The crystalline, diamond heart has now become our true lens of perception for our authentic and Divine nature to emerge within the cosmic reality of One Mindedness. In other words we are being made ready to come fully into alignment, resonance and rapport with the innate wisdom of the One Mind of God, each and every time Mother Earth makes a quake.
Please know there is nothing random about where she shakes; she knows what she is doing. She has a plan and she's doing it for us as well as herself. She's not angry, as many have proclaimed. She loves us more than you might imagine. She is on a mission to ascend... so we can.
This act is an awesome and yet delicately orchestrated plan to align Earth with the Cosmos and humanity with God. It is a feat never before accomplished, however we are beginning to fathom the unfathomable now aren't we?
Little did we know, as we have gone through this human process, that we were being prepared, through every trial and tribulation, to hold the templates of the Christ Consciousness that would result in profound spiritual illumination never before experienced as a collective in human form. Never.
This is the day that St. Germain, when he took the form of Roger Bacon, had already long awaited. He said then (as he says now), "When humanity discovers their proper orbit as the planets have found theirs, at last all will move in harmony under the great impulse of a single creation....One Unity, One System, One Design."
During many a lifetime we have been on a singular trip to attempt to seek ourselves, never considering the whole picture of humanity, or our part in collaborating to lift and illuminate an entire species and a beloved Earth that has fallen over and over again.
In those days we traveled by ego on a never-ending quest to nowhere. Now we are on a voyage together, to a glorious new destiny, a new reality, traveling by heart and intuition, both of which carry the comprehension of the true process of life, which is Love. This lifetime we are on a journey to Love, shattering every former matrix that shadowed love at its every turn, primarily from within ourselves.
This time we will not fail. We will not. We will stand together as empowered souls standing in the Light, without shadow, and emit the Divinity within.
And this is why right now, we must be certain that every part of our life, every choice that we make, every relationship that we enter into, that we are in alignment, resonance and rapport with each of them. No exception. No excuses.
Look closely at your mind, your body, your work, your relationships, your plans and your residence. Are you in alignment, resonance and rapport with each? Are adjustments necessary? Adjustments are not judgments. They are shifts in consciousness allowing you greater ability to make this ascension more seamless for yourself.
These adjustments will make you more able to communicate and collaborate with ease and grace with God, your Soul, the Divine Mother Earth, the Stars, each other, and the Angelic and Galactic Realms. These adjustments are the way in which to reach a new plateau in your ascension and restore your power to influence your life in the most beneficial manner.
We are the ones that will change the future for every being coming to this Earth. Can you imagine that? We are the Ones chosen to anchor in the Divine Plan of Freedom, of Love, of Illumination, of Peace and of Joy. We are the Ones. We are the Ones that are being entrusted with codes that will change the human experience forever.
We are the Ones that will be free and the ones that will free each that comes after us, and that came before us, for WE will be the ones that dismantled every implant, trap and paradigm that kept humanity imprisoned since the beginning of time. WE ARE THE ONES THAT WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR to open the gateways to the Golden Age.
Now please ask yourself this question - what adjustments would be wise for you to make to be in alignment, resonance and rapport with every aspect of your life?
Perhaps this invocation for this sacred task will be of service to you.
From The Light of the Mother/Father God That I Am, and from The Power and the Love of the Mother/Father God That I Am, I call forth all of the highest Beings of pure Love and Light from this unto the 12th Dimension to be present with me now.
I call forth Creator Source. I call forth my Higher Self. I call forth the Divine Mother. I call forth Lord Metatron, Archangel Sandalphon, Archangel Gabriel, and Archangel Zadkiel. I call forth Lord Matreiya and St. Germain. I call forth the Light Beings from Arcturus, Sirius, Orion and Telos. I call in the Christ Light.
I ask and commit to working with you as you work with me to be in alignment, resonance and rapport with all aspects of my Creation on all planes of existence. I ask for assistance and empowerment to be in alignment, resonance and rapport with The One Mind of God.
In my stillness, away from distraction, I ask to be prepared to engage with the 12th dimension of Original Thought and the 11th dimension of Original Feeling, no longer bound by third dimensional thought or logic.
I call forth help and collaboration to assist me in dissolving all untruths, discrepancies and distortions that I hold about myself and all others. I devotionally commit to doing my part as you do yours to assist and empower me, through graceful experience, to make the leap in consciousness that assures my passage into the New World.
In this moment I ask you, Dear God, to further open my heart and mind, and direct my thoughts and words, as I become clearer about who I Am. I call upon Jeshua and Mary to help me clearly see the golden threads of my Oneness and love for all.
This invocation is spoken as a manner of love for all and for myself, and to link me with you to make the conditions of my life ripe for my transformation. I accept this power of transmutation.
And so it is with great love and deep respect that I say thank you in advance knowing my words have been heard, my heart stands behind my words and you are here.
I Am That I AM. I AM That I AM. And so it is. And so I let it be so.

Yeah, I did notice that...they're probably reports from various detectors in the area since they each register differences of seconds and different locations. They must be off shore quakes since the bot only caught a 5 pointer.

Here we go again...
Ireland shuts airports Tuesday as ash risk returns
DUBLIN – All flights in and out of Ireland have been canceled Tuesday morning because of the renewed risk of volcanic ash drifting south from Iceland, the Irish Aviation Authority announced Monday.
But experts said they couldn't tell whether the shifting winds would lead to wider European airspace shutdowns, mirroring last month's crisis, when more than 100,000 flights were canceled and airlines estimated they lost more than $2 billion in business.
"We cannot really tell what it is going to do," said University of Iceland geophysicist Pall Einarsson.
Ireland's airspace managers said all flights from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (0600GMT to 1200GMT) had to be canceled because of "the safety risks to crews and passengers as a result of the drift south of the volcanic ash cloud caused by the northeasterly winds."
The airport shutdown affects both the Republic of Ireland and the British territory of Northern Ireland, leaving the island dependent temporarily on ferry links to Britain and France.
Britain's Civil Aviation Authority also announced a shutdown of air services over Scotland's outermost Hebrides islands Monday night because of the risk that ash could be ingested into aircrafts' jet engines. The shutdowns were the first in Britain and Ireland since April 22, a week after the Eyjafjallajokull (pronounced ay-yah-FYAH-lah-yer-kuhl) volcano erupted in Iceland.
However the latest restrictions will not affect airplanes that normally use Irish or British airspace to reach other destinations, because the ash threat exists at much lower altitudes than the cruising altitudes for international flights.

More than 50 new surface earthquake faults have been discovered in California over the last two decades, according to a new state map that officials hope will help guide future development decisions and emergency planning.
The state's fault activity map, produced by the California Geological Survey, is the first in 16 years and offers a sober reminder of California's quake risks.

The new faults range from small ones that don't pose much threat for major temblors to very large ones, like that responsible for the 7.1 Hector Mine earthquake that shook Southern California in 1999.

Thanks for posting this VIKING - another lesson in my learning journey for me today. I clicked on the Seismic Activity world-wide - how interesting and also the Cloud formations - WOW. Cheers. What did I learn - I learnt again that yes every 'thing' is interconnected and that while the tectonic plates are on the move - the plates, earthquakes, volcanoes and clouds can be and are being manipulated and it aint by the hand of any 'godly-force'.

Don't feel too sad about it, millions of deaths of people that chose to live on a fault line. Their choice.

Mysterious pits appear in Sichuan village
http://images.china.cn/attachement/bmp/site1007/20100506/0019b93bd68d0d4c5e9c06.bmp
Experts in southwest China's Sichuan Province are investigating the appearance of 26 huge pits in a village within seven days.
The first sinkhole was discovered at midnight of April 27, when a sudden shake and deafening crash awoke the villagers in Yibin City, Chengdu Economic Daily reported yesterday.
The largest pit was 40 meters in diameter when it was discovered and grew to 60 meters across by the next day.
The sinkholes kept expanding in size last week, affecting an area of 0.6 square kilometers. About 290 people living in the affected area have been forced to leave their homes and move into temporary camps.

UN: Nature’s diversity fast disappearing, harming life on earth
The natural systems that support life on earth, from the Amazon forests to coral reefs, are close to the tipping point of collapse because of human activities, a new study on the global biodiversity said on Monday.
The third edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook confirmed that the world has failed to achieve targets for a significant reduction of the rate of biodiversity loss by 2010.
The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) report warned that there will be “a severe reduction of many essential services to human societies as several ‘tipping points’ are approached in which the ecosystems shift to alternative, less productive states from which it may be difficult or impossible to recover.” UNEP, which serves as the secretariat for the UN Convention of Biological Diversity, cited large areas in the Amazon that are dying because of the interactions of climate change, deforestation and fires. The changes affect global climate, regional rainfall and widespread species extinctions.

TECUMSEH, Okla. – Five people have been killed in Oklahoma during an outbreak of violent weather that dropped tornadoes across parts of the Southern Plains.
The Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management said three people were killed at Tecumseh on Monday and that another person died at Oklahoma City. Tecumseh is about 45 miles southeast of Oklahoma City.
The agency did not have any additional details.
The storms caused traffic accidents that closed two major cross-country interstates. Damage was reported throughout much of northern, central and eastern Oklahoma.
The Storm Prediction Center at Norman had predicted the outbreak, saying the atmosphere had the right mix of winds, heat and moisture.

SOMETHING is brewing under Japan's Mount Fuji. Using rocks ejected by previous eruptions, between 781 AD and 1707, geologists are figuring out what the volcano's internal plumbing looks like.
A team led by Takayuki Kaneko at the University of Tokyo's Volcano Research Center has found that over the centuries the magma's silica levels have gradually increased. High silica tends to indicate large explosions, suggesting eruptions have become more violent. Large amounts of basalt rich in aluminium oxide were also found, which can trigger an eruption when it collides with silica.

2010 Hurricane Season Could Rank In The Top 10
May 12, 2010
AccuWeather
The upcoming hurricane season could be a top 10 active year, a stark contrast from the relatively calm 2009 season.
AccuWeather.com Chief Hurricane Meteorologist Joe Bastardi predicts a total of 16-18 storms this season. To put that in perspective, only eight years in the 160 years of records have had 16 or more storms in a season.
