No great secret here but your posts and avatars are almost instantly accessible through Google and other sites. Good for some but maybe not others.

Put in part or all of your post header and/or avatar name into Google (or other search engine) and see for yourselves.

Sure enough.

About 15 minutes after this post was made, I noticed it, and did a Google search for "AVALONIANS TAKE CAUTION". Guess what was the number one hit - this post.

The Googlebot is far and away the heaviest "user" of our server.

On occasion, I have noticed a new post go up, read it, seen a word I did not recognize, did a Google search for that word, and found exactly *one* hit - that post. It was a uniquely misspelled word.

Any sub-forum here that guests can see, Googlebot can and does also see. Many members first found us doing a Google search on some terms of interest to them.

I put 'KiwiElf' into Google Search and ended up with 'Kiwi-Elf Humping Part I and II' Videos on YouTube!

I also put in 'Healthy Skeptic' and ended up with nothing significant, which suits me as I have been 'Insignificant' for most of my life!! :p

The original title of this thread "AVALONIANS TAKE CAUTION: Your Posts & Avatars are on Google and other sites" was unnecessarily alarmist.

In accordance with the forum guidelines, I gave the thread title a tranquilizer.

It is now "Avalonians: Your Posts & Avatars are on Google and other sites" :)

No offense... but big whoop!
Having my posts and avatar on Google is of little consequence to me.
We have far more pressing issues to concern ourselves with right now.
I'd say there are AI's out there that are capturing FAR more data on us than most people realise.
Google should be the least of our worries.

No problem - and it wasn't intended to be alarmist (My apologies to anyone who took it as such). nor was it a jibe at Google (It's my favourite search engine :). I was simply stating a fact. Seems to me there are a number of people in here who DIDN'T know tho :)

When things on one site get updated almost immediately on another, it's usually because they are on the source site's RSS feed.

It's gonna happen in higher frequency to sites running on VB, wordpress, etc. as a consequence of them being popular platforms. Unfortunately, there are too many site owners who like this activity for google to stop on their own. You have to specifically tell them to, usually in such a way that drastically reduces the exposure of your site to searchers. So it's a trade-off.

This is the inevitable downside of a useful function - the more unusual the string, eg an odd name or spelling, or better still a whole sentence, is going to pop up quickest. This is how teachers check their students haven't been downloading their homework - which is part of the upside I guess.

Your Posts & Avatars are on Google and other sites.

I'd like to spread my word on the newspapers and in the evening news on TV.

Me, too, chiquetet. Getting all of our messages out would be ideal since mainstream medias are on a tight leash. And people need to hear more about what's REALLY happening around them....

Google should be the least of our worries.

I think Google is guilty of gathering more information on us than all the others combined. IMO we should worry about them.... I read somewhere that Google was developed by the CIA....

This is why we should not disrupt posts, so others can read a smooth continuity of ideas.
