This is interesting for insights.

Six men are in isolation for 520 days to simulate a return trip to Mars. They're living in a totally artificial environment with no fresh air or daylight. With two months to go until the project's finished, scientists say they're starting to struggle mentally.

With the 'jump rooms' is there any point to this?
Do you think it is a cover for some other experiment
They would not get volunteers, if they new the real reason.
And there frame of mind is relevant, for observation.

It seems to me, Ria, that they have going on what they want joe public to know, while they get on with the real thing behind the scenes, so to speak.
I am not sure that the jump rooms are generally known to the public.

whenever I read articles about this experiment I cant help seeing it in seventies tv colours, you know, like cheap doctor who and tomorrows world and it does not strike me as serious.
I reckon there are many people who could stay the course ,think of all those poor souls who have ever been in solitary confinement,at least these guys have each other to talk to and that.
confinement experiments must have been going on long before this.
This is how it sounds to me,"So its six guys in a warehouse for 520 days and they have to pretend they are on mars".
Just because they are pretending they are on mars makes no difference to the experiment it just gives it some razzledazzle.
They might as well have said,
Jupiter,
pluto,
under the sea,
on the moon,
the antartctic,
a supermarket car park,
under the ocean,

I will not hold my breath waiting for NASA to land men on Mars.
I am still waiting for them to land a Man on Moon.

RIA , you speak as if you have experienced "jump" rooms as a personally observed fact. Have you observed one in operation? If you have not then what you have is a "belief" and not a fact. So your post should be re worded. This is not to say "jump" rooms do not exist but when we start mixing personal belief with observed fact then the result of this leads to problems like the recent "elenin" debarcle.

This forum is really cool and i love reading about new things. But when people start mixing their beliefs with fact then we get problems.

PS If you have actually observed a jump room in operation then many appologies. :)

Yes we would definitely have less to read but it might be of more quality. But hey i didnt say not post, just reword ones post to reflect a belief and not a fact. The post from RIA for all intents and puposes is not different from a religious person posting their beliefs as fact. They soon get flamed. This is really no different.

No fresh air or day light for 520 days! Gollum (lord of the Rings) comes to mind.
