Chiren Boumaaza, aka Athene, is an extravagant Internet celebrity, with over 240 million upload views, and a professional gamer.

If you haven’t heard of him, he’s a record holder in World of Warcraft and online poker, and plays the main character in a series of videos on a popular YouTube channel with well over 340,000 subscribers.

Athene is known for crashing gaming servers, with the aid of his massive army of followers, who just love to be part of the controversy and trouble Athene is so well known for.

Over the past year, we haven’t heard much from him, and it seemed as though he had fallen off the grid.

Recently Chiren broke his silence, and announced that his disappearance was due to being very busy, conducting new research in the fields of quantum mechanics, general and special relativity, and neuroscience. (WTF!!!)

He continued to say that this research is culminating in significant new discoveries that will be presented in a documentary named Athene’s Theory of Everything.

This was definitely an unexpected turn, and caused quite a stir, and some confusion within his fan base.

I highly doubt that this video has any scientific value but hey what is the truth these days, knowing the background of this guy, but anyways let’s have a look. Just for fun

I've posted reference to this multiple times, yet never thought to make it it's own thread; this is the filter I view all social interaction through. Highly recommend everyone watch this!

The first half ('God is in the neurons'), goes into the advantages and disadvantages of belief, and how it may effect 'self awareness'. There are a few false claims (or atleast very debatable claims that is passed as fact here), but the essential message stands regardless, imo. I highly recommend a watch for everyone on this forum. In fact I recommend watching it a few times. I had a hard time taking it all in at once, anyway.

One of the things covered is how belief can be good, because it allows you to hold an opinion that other people agree with. When people agree with you it makes you feel good.

However, when confronted with an opinion that differs to yours, a chemical is released in your brain that 'cuts out' rational thinking (happens to be that same chemical released when a car seems like its going to run you over ie. 'fear', or in this case: the 'fear' of a core belief you live by being wrong) It's worth noting that 'Non-mainstream' beliefs are still beliefs, and you still have people who agree with you, that will make you feel better. Also, people agreeing with you isn't the only 'feel-good' factor that effects this. (eg. reconciling a fear of death)

This is why it's seemingly impossible to 'reason' someone out of a belief, since the belief is not largely based on reason in the first place, and after adopting a belief, the brain essentially shuts down rational thinking about that belief where possible, 'cuz it feels good.

But, does that effect rational thinking outside the belief? Is ignorance really bliss, in the longrun? Does irrational belief stifle true self-awareness? Watch it, look into it further, and decide for yourself =)

As for the second half... well I don't really recommend it, but check it out for yourself. I think he's gone in way over his head here (with his 'theory of everything'). I will admit: I may be way in over my own head by even commenting on it, haha. However, I'm confident that it's safe for me to say his idea that he will be the next Einstein based on this, is a bit over ambitious to say the least (though it's worth noting this guy is the best internet troll ever) =P

Also, I found the Carl Sagan impersonation a little off-putting, lol.

I like Athene. I've been a subscriber on his YT channel and some of his friends since nearly the start. I liked the iPower thing that the whole crowd (Furious, Abraham, Tania, etc) started up.

I am watching his Together To The Top structure for influencing YT rankins with interest.

They are activists and they know how to work groups and influence politicians.

They were hot on net-neutrality issues a while back.

They are all great people, funny as hell.

Athene is a smart guy - he is a great actor as well ....
