I'll just say that the above graph's conclusions are baseless and complete guesses (they refer to "fossil fuel"... sheesh).

Plus we've come to a fairly solid conclusion that the earths temperatures are almost entirely sun-activity dependent.

"drastic emission limiting" will do absolutely nothing for "global temperatures" it will do a lot for local regions, like bejing.

Just like vaccines, that were pointed at as the "cure" for diseases that were already on the decline before their intruduction.. this global warming hysteria will point to the rise of electric cars (which will take over for reasons un-related to environment) as their saving act (my prediction) or some other such non-sense.

M.O. See a trend, co-opt it & claim credit for what is inevitable.

I'll take the electric cars and gleefully stomp on the fossil fuel magnates and oligarchs.

Their influence and connections in the human sphere can't end soon enough.

And as they run from oil and energy systems, into other spheres of influence as an alternative for their designs, I'd gladly cut both reached for branch and arm from them.

~~~~~~~~~~~
But, all that being said, their self-immolation will be great enough. Not biblical, but self enacted. The thing they don't know is that they themselves will make the repair and pressure upon the self equal the 'crime'.
The more I involve myself in their life and actions as a reflection or mirror... the more I enjoin their 'ride' and the more of their ride's flavours and flows that I inflict upon myself.
This, of course, is to be seen as self assessed and posited by me, as it can be no other way. Kind of the entire point, in the end. The idea of it as a knowledge gap creates the impression of it being local to my reasoning and circular, which again, fulfills it's intent and design. That line about 'all is permitted', somehow leaving out the 'all has price/cost' part.
Life has to be reactionary and involved, with range and contrast, otherwise....what would be the point? Intelligence by it's very nature, as a range of contrast and differential in complex expression in/of matter-information, requires this separation, otherwise it remains in connected stable order.... and is effectively.....nothing.
Heard a radio program this morning relating a demand from ex Prime Minister Brian Mulroney to Prime Minister Trudeau to authorize a pipeline from Alberta to east, probably the Maritimes, going through Ontario and Quebec, stating that it would make Canada energy independent, and a worldwide force.
Then a commentator came in saying that we would not be independent of anything if the baril or oil remains at 20$.
A second commentator came in saying that why, if we want to be independent, did we sell our silver mines for a dime, why did we sell all of our resouces for a dime when they could make us become a world power if we were owning them.
And finally another commentator came in telling us that petroleum was not the way, all kinds of natural energies exist and we should use them or create them instead of fossil fuel, why don't we, talking about wind energies, hydro energies etc, she was just just short of talking of free energy.
I do not know if we are having those comments on public radio (radio Canada) only in Canada, if so, we are ahead of the crowd, and if not, people are waking up. Ever slowly, but they are. We have to keep going at it.
One could even say that the highest intelligence evolves into being --- across dimensions.
A simple observation, in the end.
Ye olde expansion of awareness ....in it's most fundamental form.
From such points one can draw some interesting conclusions that fit the observations.
I just set Lady Mosquito free after repeated attempts to fit through the window screen. I wished her godspeed. I thought best not to mention it’s lunchtime for the birds. After all she’s entitled to her vision of morrow’s destiny without me mucking it up.
Lady Mosquito reminded me of last evening while I read in bed. A moth flitted about. I said, “How bout you and me make a deal? You land somewhere and I promised to set you free.”
I turned the reading lamp off and on. In full trust of our agreement, there she waited on the lamp stem. I gently scooped her up, released her to the moonlit night, and thought how cool is that?
I felt a wonderful feeling of love for you and your kindness, Runningdeer, when I read your post. If I could live long enough to see humans embrace the sanctity of life in all living things I could leave with a smile. When we can come to appreciate that all things carry the same life force, a natural respect will follow. When this occurs, the world and it's creatures will finally find a balance.
Strangely, a large desperate worm appeared under my garage door after gasmen left, rinsed it off in birdbath and placed it in lawned garden. Gone, hopefully not down birdy-throat. We do what we can. Neighbouring cat very very hungry, a bit thin, so she also scoffed proper cat-fud today. 👍
It is also important to understand that when we consume meat, the DNA we consume is literally showing up in our body, our DNA mix.
Evolved humans don't eat meat as this is a simple logical fact, that is entirely unavoidable.
You can't get there, while eating meat.
It's probably your biggest anchor into animalism of self, personal inability to evolve in the given life..
Is that the way
Well, I never said I was not a meat eater. I just finished a plate of eggs and sausages.
I simply don't engage in hypocrisy about it.
It's about not cutting your legs off with a dull spoon, and then having the temerity to call yourself a runner.
In a world of people who are doing the same, I guess we can all crawl along in a race with one another, and call ourselves 'runners'...
Ok then as long as we are clear on that :ROFL:
Washington state is the home of Starbucks HQ; a mecca for all social experiments with coffee. There is a coffee stand in every supermarket and a drive-thru kiosk next to every tienda mexicana. The variety of ways to have one's coffee made is staggering.
For instance, there are kiosks up here where women dressed in bikinis and/or themed costumes make your coffee.
My first encounter was "best friend" coffee shop. I had never even imagined such a place could ever exist before I walked up to it, thinking that "best friend" was one of the most adorable names for a shop ever. I asked the barista if she could fill up my travel mug with water. My vision is somewhere around 20:100 and I do not have glasses, so I did not notice she was wearing only an apron until she turned around.
:suspicious: I whispered to her with concern and urgency, "why arent you wearing pants!!"
She explained everything to me while I rehydrated. The coffee stand fashioning a "family friendly" sign in big block letters finally made sense. These little shops are often run by dudes who park their truck in the parking lot and just watch. These little shops are completely legal, obviously. The pay is better, but still just another slave wage on a societal perspective.
Such strange things exist in this world and WE support them. As a collective-- as One-- let us stop supporting the things we do not wish to be here any longer. We must choose to support a new reality. Diving off that cliff and living that reality, however little it does in the grand scheme of things (which is still minuscule; see Carl Sagan), is the most important act we can all actually do right now.
Thank you, peterpam. It’s my sentiments, too. My money’s on it happens before I purchase a ticket elsewhere. If not, at least in my little corner of the world, I enjoy the on-going blips of balance.
Alas, change overall is slower for the impatient part of me. Hum, could be why I’m still here.
Lake, I was confuse because I didn’t recall those posts at the Village. You’ve quoted Carmody from June, 2014 on another thread called, “Human Animals - That's Us (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?71888-Human-Animals-That-s-Us&p=840443&viewfull=1#post840443)”.
In terms of diet, our requirements differ over time and with age. Not to mention...wait I'll stop there...
I know judgmental a$$holes (oops, judgy-me) that are vegan, and families that are in-synch and supportive of each other that are not vegan, macrobiotic or vegetarian.
I don’t attach labels to myself. I listen to what my body expresses. Knock on wood, so far, so good. Eat clean is my journey at present. Oops!, that's a label, huh? I love, love, love to break rules. Freedom to change where I need changin'. Gawd! I love this creative game we live in.
Without change there is no movement, without movement there is no experience, without experience there is no awareness of change.......and so the circle starts once again
I don't think she's judging or even indicating such. It's just a bit of conversation, IME.
It tends to be paradox anyway, with particles and waves being both different and the same...a universe where there is no such thing as a fact -- except for the single fact ....of there being no facts.
Both logic and science agree, that down at the bottom..... it is paradox.
Speaking of clean eating... This just came in while posting. It’s called the Body Analyzer (https://www.vanityplanet.com/products/body-analyzer1-2).
It tracks:
body fat
weight
muscle mass
bone mass
water weight
I saw it on Youtube where I guy got his stats done with a dunking tank and posted them. He compared those results to this home scale.
I found this 3 minute video. Jessica gets on the scale so you can see how quick it registers. A pamphlet is provided with the ranges for men and women.
True, what Carmody said.
Also...I'm speaking for those who's pocketbooks are tight, who's knowledge base is light, those who can't get to markets because of travel restrictions, work schedules, children, and for those who don't have time for research because of family obligations, kids' after school schedules of homework and activities, parents with stress and depression, and so on and so on.
I woke today with a thought....what is an atom
As i lay in bed, beginning to awake, I tried to consider this thought but it constantly attempted to slip away like a dream.
It is certain that I have no comprehension of 'what an atom is'! It is not what I was told as a child. It is not what I was told in school. It is not what I have read in textbooks nor is it what I have from my own research on this internet.
To be told that it is a wave and a particle which has an awareness.......is also not to my consideration correct.
Yes I can see and utilize the principle, if I wish to, but I find it a 'path which leads no where! Or nowhere I want to be.
I couldn't hold the thought (yes I comprehend all the supposed physics....but no).
There is something else which is an atom......a thought I haven't yet had or been given!
Chill though, just the ramblings of a 10047 year old....best I go and put on my slippers now so as not to disturb the seagulls?
Done many different activities today...from getting my new residency card to preparing the guest quarters at home, showing a new kid how to scrub dog foot prints off our terrace and buying a ton of second hand clothes for my second hand shop.
The only item of strangeness I noticed was how the new size 12 in women's clothing looks more like what was once a size 16.
Needless to say, all those clothes come from the US where the entire population has grown a couple of sizes in the last few years.
He is spelling out everything that I have discovered over the decades of studying astrology.
Very, very inspiring, and confirming my own observations about our world and the cosmos.
I listened to the interview and enjoyed it as I usually enjoy Maxwell. I followed up with one of his references and went to the following link and began listening to Manly P. Hall's lectures on Astrotheology. 9 Hours! I recommend checking it out.
I love listening to Manly P. Hall.
The clarity of his mind, and his reminders about the orderly patterns of cosmic design, this is what I needed at this point in my life, as a reminder.
Since childhood I had a fascination with patterns. I would draw the flower of life for hours.
And the discovery of the 'fact' that thee was a Creator at age 28, and astrology and Gurdjieff teachings at age 30, and connecting those dots, and seeing that God was a mathematician, besides all those other attributes one learnt from society.
And then at age 33 finding Baha'u'llah and that he brought the Law for this age, which is the same as the cosmic laws I had discovered with the study of astrology, and that the mess our world is in is nothing but the transition to the promised Golden Age, of which we are faintly seeing a dawning light.
The whole world will become whole and holy, that is my firm conviction.
What is an atom? Something you can't split: a-tomos is Greek for no cut. You can split an atom. Ergo an atom is not an atom.You can go on splitting an atom till the cows come home. Ergo an atom is no closer to being an atom than a cow. So what is an atom? It is a chunk of matter in size somewhere between a cow and a neutron.
There was this child in elementary school (a school that served a migrant community in the central California valley)who had already killed a child. His entire family was in jail. She who must not be named was teaching class when she saw the murderous child strangling another child (much larger, three grades behind). She instantly raised her arm in an arc, and the child flew up and through the air to the back of the room. The next day, as she walked to her classroom, the hall was lined with the parents of the other children who witnessed the flight. No one spoke to her but she heard whispers of Bruja as she walked by.
I asked her if she could do it on command. She said no, she had to be in a state of instant terror to reach the altered state.
I noticed the first time around on my walk, an elderly lady make her way through handicap parking spots at Target. Her frail arms clutched the pocketbook and keys while she surreptitiously surveyed some of the vehicles.
By the time I circled the second time, I knew something was off because she was at the end of the store still meandering the first and second rows closest to the building of the big box store, only now she was twenty-twenty five rows down.
As I suspected and should’ve listened to my gut, the elderly woman forgot where she parked her car. The only description was that it was either dark blue or black and it had an out-of-state license plate. She remembered parking close to the entrance near the reserved handicap section. It turned out, she confused the sidewalk that ran the length of the building with the sidewalk perpendicular to the store entrance.
What struck me was how she had no affect when she ID the car or when we bid our good-byes or earlier when she meandered around the parked cars. As she drove off, I wondered if it was more than a senior moment but rather a symptom of dementia.
Hours later, I’m questioning, “What’s this obsession with the elderly lady?” It hit a cord of how one day, I’ll be the frail old lady. Will I know it? How long can I be independent before I’m out of ideas on how to get around? Or unable to do for myself?
It is a choice and because of my beliefs.......I will not be 'struggling' to stay in a place I dislike and am probably not actually wanted lol
I hear you. I require my husband to help me with stuff now I simply can't do because of the arthritis.
I think about mortality more often, because I live in a town where a lot of people move once they've retired. Five people have died on my street since we moved here. And I think our neighbor directly across the street just died. He is a fireman, from one of the families that founded this little mountain town. He fell, and broke six ribs. Next we know, daily parking of fire engines, and police cars, with people doing hospice care for him. Then a car there 24 hours. Today, no one.
For some reason, this one hurts.
Wednesday turned into birds of prey day. I was doing errands late morning and saw a Red Tail Hawk flying near. Well I hadn't seen one in a very long time so I stopped to sit with it as long as it would let me.
34211
Then later on in the day a friend of mine and I were out riding around on his quad in the desert and through the orange groves. There are cotten fields between the orange groves. In the first field we saw fifty or so birds flying around. I thought that something had died; and as we got closer I realized that they were hawks. Wow, that is a lot of hawks. I've never seen that many in one place and thought how unusual. Usually two or three and once in a while I'll see a grouping of five or six. Well we drove through the next orange grove to the next field.... and there were hundreds of them flying together. Red Tails, cooper hawks including a few Falcons. I'm still awestruck by it. In all of my life I've never seen this many birds of prey flying together. Has anyone else experienced this?
Sorry about the photos, having editing issues,
That’s amazing, Nora. I’ve never seen so many or so many different breeds together.
Snippets from around the web that may help answer the gathering of different species:
1) Purple martins and Cooper’s hawks are intertwined in a predator/prey relationship that has grown more intimate and intense over the years as these hawks have increased in population and learned to associate martin housing with food. Cooper’s hawks and their cousins the sharp-shinned hawks are Accipiters and eat primarily birds. Accipiter hawks are slender with short rounded/elliptical shaped wings and long tails. These hawks are built for explosive acceleration, rapid flight for short distances, and flycatcher like agility using their long tails as rudders. Martin colonies are similar to bird feeding stations which Cooper’s hawks frequently stake out and hunt. Both martin colonies and bird feeding stations offer hawks a ready source of food that is concentrated in one location and the hawks develop hunting strategies to exploit the situation. [article (https://www.purplemartin.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26852)]
2) Each fall, hundreds of thousands of hawks eagles, ospreys and falcons withdraw from their breeding grounds across North America and move to their wintering grounds, some as far away as southern South America. [article (http://www.wbu.com/chipperwoods/photos/hawkmig.htm)]
3) Depending on the season, there can be as many as 20 different species of falconiformes living in the North Texas area. Some are seasonal migrants. Other are what is known as occasional vagrants—birds that sometimes roam outside their normal range. [article (http://dfwurbanwildlife.com/2014/07/22/journal/dfw-raptors-hawks-falcons-and-eagles/)]
4) Hawks, eagles and falcons share a lot of the same habitat and food sources as owls. What keeps them from directly competing? Owls are nocturnal (active at night), while hawks, eagles and falcons are diurnal (active during the day). [article (http://nyfalls.com/wildlife/birds/eagles-hawks/)]
5) Most raptors migrate over land. Large bodies of water do not produce strong thermals and are generally avoided. This effectively funnels most migrant raptors through Central America, a narrow land bridge. Because of this phenomenon, flocks of several thousand raptors of many different species can be seen during migration in many Central American countries. [article (http://hawksaloft.org/hawks-aloft-inc-2/frequently-asked-questions/)]
6) Juvenile raptors, particularly Northern Harriers, will “play” with corn cob pieces in fields after the harvest. They are not eating the corn but will harry the field then drop down as if capturing a meadow vole, and go through behavior motor sequence of taloning, dispatching, and biting. They will fly off with the piece, sometimes drop it and “recapture” it. They seem to enjoy this behavior which is most common in the fall. They select cobs that are broken in pieces about the size of a meadow vole.
This harrying-capture-kill motor sequence is, perhaps, part of a developmental phase as they perfect their hunting style or technique. Since animals learn adaptive strategies and also learn from one another, it is possible that they do this for fun at times when the prey base is sufficient and they can afford the metabolic cost, that is, the act of practicing hunting skills outweighs the metabolic cost. It can easily look like the hawks are hunting and eating corn! [article (http://hawksaloft.org/hawks-aloft-inc-2/frequently-asked-questions/)]
For the last three evenings, I’ve had different dreams than usual. One I woke to go to the bathroom and entered right back into the dream. As I write this I recall the evening before where some of the dream happens in real life. I reminded myself that this is an overlap of my waking day.
The dream before waking today, I climbed a brick wall like a fly. I grew tired of the endless climb. So I created a window and punched through it. There was a time sensitive job to complete. Like a claustrophobic birthing canal, I crawled through with the understanding it was a necessary step to move through it because turning back was no longer an option I wanted to take.
It fits as a metaphor for where I am and what I’ve been pondering of late. It's high time to break out of this illusion. Birth into next.
Here is a tour of my whole house rainwater harvesting system that accounts for approx. 90% of my family's needs here in the Arizona Sonoran desert. If you are interested in rainwater harvesting I hope it my give you some ideas of things that you can do in your own area of the world. If we can do it here in this area, I think most anyone else can certainly add to there water security with just a few simple steps. Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions:)
The best guess is that the average person's mind evolves approximately 2 to 10 times slower than the technology. I'd say the most forward looking people are probably still falling behind in understanding and dealing with the ramifications of the technology.
How far ahead is black ops technology? Much further along, I'd wager.
When combined with CRISPR Gene editing technology, the changes are permanent and passed down through offspring.
They utilize mainly fatty acids for energy and produce very little lactic acid. They are not eating or drinking and yet they can run for four or five hours. They are 10 times more active than ordinary mice in their home cage. They also live longer – up to three years of age – and are reproductively active for almost three years. In short, they are remarkable animals." However, "they eat twice as much as control mice, but they are half the weight, and are very aggressive. Why this is the case, we are not really sure." an extract from your second link
This would explain some of the cabal longer living, activities well up to their nineties and much more agressivity. (3 years more living is a lot for a mice).
this topic worth its own thread I believe.
I cut across the parking lot on my walk today because a young lady was still lying on the pavement outside her car. She was in the throes of uncontrollable sobbing and shaking, while two police officers stood nearby her.
Arms opened, I gingerly walked over while I invited our higher selves to join us. She immediately pulled herself up and extended her arms out, all while the sobbing continued.
For a little bit, I matched her fast-paced heart beat and waited for a full connection. Then I began to slow my pace down; the same with my breathing. When I felt her body relax and the crying lessen, I told her that in a minute, I’d help her into the car if she was ready. She agreed.
I bid her good-bye when her father and the medics arrived.
I’d wager a guess that it was postpartum depression. There was a little one about six months old in the back seat. Dreamingly, he sucked away on his binky.
Greetings and update from PathWalker for Jewish new year eve
I wish to share and greet PA readers with growth, courage and strength for the coming days.
We are now graduating our soul, each everyone of us is unique, sacred, perfect and whole.
We are facing our greatest daemons and issues now.
We create/manifest our reality, we have the responsibility and power to change whatever we want.
Lets focus and imagine what we want.
This is an opportunity to release and ascend above our fears once and for all.
Rejoice and celebrate the graduation...
On a personal note:
This month I retired my software engineering career, and ceased job hunting.
I have committed myself to physics teaching career.
Going back to school, learning teaching and certifying for teaching.
The fears and doubts are embedded with strong passion and commitment.
Synchronicity and signals bound me to follow my soul calling/path...
Trust my guides and my manifestation powers, to make the change I want to be!
The family (4 of us) is living on saving for the next 12 months.
Good luck, Pathwalker. I salute you for the courageous step you are taking.
This is what I have been encouraging people to do for decades now...if they have a job they don't feel passionate about it is time to change careers.
And yes, it is all about facing fears, and replacing them with faith.
But at least they have returned to living their lives to the fullest.
Since I asked the Villagers here to take a look at hurricane Matthew, yesterday morning, a most unusual thing has happened. The hurricane has not moved from the spot.
It is sitting in a part of the ocean where not only can it do no harm, but is actually doing good, because from its rim it has brought rain to an area of Colombia that has had a severe drought for years.
The farmers there are happy today.
Well done everyone.
It's close to midnight as i am typing this; pretty tired from today.
The day's log entry:
The contrasts on this island couldn't be bigger - yesterday's permanent heartopening tearbringers,
versus today's decision to have a look at the "tourist section", which was... just f***in' gruesome.
We doubled yesterday's mileage to get there, but we didn't even make it to our planned destination,
as what we encountered on our way there was so... devastating. Even the weather got bad, as we were closing in.
"OMG, how can anybody LIKE this ?!?"
Hotel castles like giant cell blocks, cubic, no inspired architecture. Sick-making.
I took one photo there (says it all).
"Keep it tidy", in English, written on the trash containers in the streets.
Keep it tidy, my donkey! - The trash lying around fits the area just fine. Most uncomfortable place! Ugh...
Decided to "leave early", and scorched to our homebase, through winds that almost blew us off the bike...
We both needed a beer, immediately, on our return.
~
Listening to early eighties disco stuff (it's all the same song, over and over), enjoying the evening sun at the pool -
just like our "pet lizard", who is also back at his favourite hangout (yes, the pool - i didn't know they were excellent swimmers).
http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b585/Herb_Garmsen/lizards%20back-06431_zps0oa6z5by.jpg
Strange how i can drink a beer, and "swim it off", completely, in a couple of minutes.
Sunset at homebase is fast wiping out the memory of a day that seemed wasted;
Nightsky is even more rewarding.
I wrote a piece on a forum group which deals in esoteric studies about the question which one of the presidential candidates is the lesser of two evils.
Since many of the students there are oblivious to the hidden facts of politics and therefore support Clinton, I made an effort to shine some light on Hilary Clinton and what she represents.
I'm pretty proud of the result of my effort, so thought to show off in the "here and now" :blushing:
here it is:
==============
According to my research: The world is finally beginning to wake up to the fact that the long professed ideology of the West (Democracy, sovereign nation states and Capitalism) can not exist together in harmony.
You can have democracy and capitalism or you can have democracy and sovereign nation states, but when combined in a triage, sovereign nation states and capitalism are bound to collide with each other.
We can see the results of this incompatibility coming to bare with the so called free trade deals, which severely undermine the authority of sovereign nation states and even threaten democracy.
The elites of power and wealth who have long ago recognized this incompatibility have been working in secret and behind closed doors on a plan for a one world government in which sovereign nation states have no place.
The formation of the EU (instigated by the CIA) was only a taste of what is to come if the elites have their way.
Humanity on the other hand, certainly with all the relative young souls that are in incarnation at the moment have a huge need to be able to identify themselves with a culture that they understand and trust. Sovereign nation states (or something similar) are a necessity for people to act as a solid emotional foundation to cling to and build themselves from.
Without different cultures, humanity would also loose it's diversification, which would be devastating for our ability to evolve.
A league of nations where sovereignty is respected and celebrated should be the aim and not a one world government, which inevitably would result in tyranny and totalitarianism.
As a result of people beginning to sense that democracy and their sovereignty are being taken away from them, populist and nationalist political figures are on the rise and Trump is only one of many who are gaining ground if you look at the political landscape of the world. Erdogan in Turkey and UK leaving the EU are some other prominent examples.
If you do some background research on the Clintons, you will find that they have been on the wagon for the one world government from the beginning. Probably not out of ideology, since they don't seem to have one, but out of their ambition for power and wealth. They are bought and payed for in every imaginary way.
Bill Clinton paved the way for both the media and banking industries to form monopolies, something which was regulated and prevented by laws previously to Bill's time in office and it had a devastating effect on the autonomy of a free press and financial position of the citizens and the nation as a whole.
A one world government can only become a reality if sovereign nation states are abolished and a large part of the reasons why the US has been waging war in the past decades is to further that agenda.
Feeding the parasitically symbioses between the banking industry and the military industrial complex being another one of the reasons.
Hilary Clinton is in bed with both and in that sense, yes she is a war monger.
Don't be fooled by whatever she says. Better to look at her track record where you can see her support on the Invasion of both Iraq and Libya, the latter of which destroyed a sovereign non-belligerent country, which at the time had reached the highest living standard in Africa.
The US search for hegemony is also largely born out of the wish for a one world government and this is why Russia and China are constantly and for no apparent reasons, pushed, threatened and lied about in the press.
Trump is a wild card and for a large part anti establishment and this is the sole reason why almost the entire press has rallied behind Clinton and it has little to do with him being inexperienced, weak on facts, and a narcissist bully (which he is).
The elites and their plan for a one world government are scared ****less for people like Trump, because they are nationalist and will do all sort of things that messes with their plans.
So, taking all this in consideration, I would not be so hasty as to portray Hillary Clinton as the lesser of two evils.
Frankly, I don't know which one to choose.
This is what I was planning to do with our garden. It is called Forest Bathing.
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2016/10/01/travel/forest-bathing-mindful-walk-inspired-japanese-concept/#.V_LPB5BOKrX
http://www.japantimes.co.jp/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/p16-forestbathing-b-20161002-870x543.jpg
NEW YORK – In Japan, it’s called “shinrin-yoku,” which translates as “forest bathing.” It’s the practice of immersing yourself in nature to improve your well-being, and interest in the concept is growing, with spas, resorts, retreat centers, gardens and parks offering guided forest bathing experiences.
These programs take participants into the woods for a slow, mindful walk to contemplate nature with all the senses. It’s not a hike, because you don’t go far or fast. And while the term forest bathing may lend itself to jokes about nude hot springs, rest assured: You don’t take off your clothes.
“We walked through the woods and were just able to absorb what was surrounding us: the beauty of nature, the beauty of the world, from the smallest details, the pebbles under your feet or the branches and the bark on the trees, to how the air felt and listening to the sounds around us,” said Rona London, who participated in a forest bathing experience at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, New York. “It was absolutely wonderful.”
The benefits of shinrin-yoku were formally recognized in the early 1980s by Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. While it might seem obvious that a walk in the woods is good for you, there’s also research on the physiological effects showing that it can lower blood pressure, heart rates and stress hormones.
Amos Clifford, who founded the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs, leads a variety of forest bathing experiences, from walks in Sugarloaf Ridge State Park in Kenwood, California, to programs at Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary in Freestone, California, and The Lodge at Woodloch, a resort in Hawley, Pennsylvania.
Clifford, who has a background in Zen meditation and in marriage and family counseling, also trains guides in forest therapy. But he’s careful to say that forest therapists are not qualified to diagnose or treat mental health issues.
“We say the forest is the therapist,” he said. “The guide opens the doors.”
Clifford’s three-hour guided walks might cover only 400 meters. The ideal trail, he says, is two-thirds covered by a forest canopy but also has “some meadow open to the sky,” along with a stream and plant diversity. But it doesn’t have to be a wilderness area. He’s led walks in retirement center gardens and in city parks near freeways.
Clifford compares the experience to a guided meditation, in which participants are prompted to consider, “What are you hearing, seeing, smelling? We invite people to notice what’s in motion in the environment around them: the swaying of trees, the flow of water, butterflies or birds or whatever it might be.”
Prices for forest bathing experiences range from $30 for Clifford’s three-hour walks in Sugarloaf state park to a $199 all-day experience at Osmosis Day Spa, which includes a massage, lunch and footbath using forest products like cedar. At Mohonk, a 50-minute guided forest bathing experience is $160. Group forest therapy walks at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois, cost $25 per class or $115 for a series of five.
Charles Leary, a co-owner of Trout Point Lodge in Kemptville, Nova Scotia, says the lodge has “always believed in having our guests immerse themselves in nature. Then we discovered the research on forest bathing and formalized things a little. Now our nature guides who take people into the wilderness areas explain the concepts of forest bathing along with the local ecology.”
The National Park Service doesn’t offer formal forest bathing programs, but the agency does have a “Healthy Parks Healthy People” initiative to promote the restorative qualities of spending time in nature, and some groups organize programs in the parks on their own combining nature and mindfulness experiences, according to Kathy Kupper of the National Park Service. A recent report done for the NPS by Fatimah Jackson of Howard University looked at ways to experience “mindfulness and spirituality” at the Grand Canyon.
Terri Henry leads forest bathing experiences on the Caribbean island of Dominica for guests at Secret Bay, a boutique property with eight private villas. “We go for a mindful walk, very slow in pace, like a walking meditation,” she said. “The whole idea is to become superaware of the senses. A lot of the time, people have so much going on, they’ve got sensory overload, they have to shut it down.”
She helps guests “open up” the senses as they smell wild herbs, listen to birdsongs, feel the textures of leaves and even create artwork from foraged materials. Henry also helps people find ways to integrate what they’ve learned into their everyday routines. “If someone has a garden, I might say, ‘Well, you can do this in the garden.’ Or maybe they have a park nearby,” she said. “Everybody feels great after a vacation. Then you go back to the grind. So when you get home, how do you apply it in simple ways?”
imgur is like photobucket.. if I took a picture with my camera of a TV, I'd probably upload it to one of the two.
I'm not an expert, but I have used photoshop for about 20 years. Your second one looks more real.
What I noticed off the bat:
the distorted land masses
they didn’t clean up, i.e. erase all the parts. (See the arrows. There are a whole lot more overlays that weren't erased.
Which means there was an overlay of one layer on top of another. (also see the second animation as an example of an overlay which may change the colors)
As for the other three frames in that same animation, I added examples of what happens when you use a distort OR a twirl filter. I also sharpened up the eye.
I got ah-has from info below and stuck up sticky-notes.
http://avalonlibrary.net/paula/General/criticize-judge.jpg
http://avalonlibrary.net/paula/General/embedded-ego-habit.JPG
The Snippets:
Our egos have been shaped by other egos who react the same as we do, and it has been the same for humans throughout time.
…although you may have your ego set firmly on that shelf, you still carry the residual emotional programming that has to be overcome to attain balance. Many people who have set the ego aside have an outburst out of programmed emotional habit and think the ego has jumped off the shelf, not realizing that it is an embedded programmed emotional reaction that came about through a lifetime of using those habits.
Another aspect of ego habits is found with the internal dialogue. Although we may have the ego firmly emplaced on that shelf in our minds, the ego habit of talking to, or constantly thinking to ourselves in our heads takes a long time to wind down. Even if you are still prey to the internal dialogue, you must remember that it is embedded ego habit, and like any habit, it takes time to break the habit. When you find yourself engaged with the internal dialogue, it is often best to notice it and do something proactive to stop the running train of thoughts. Yes, this can be hard, but all of the work to get to the second cognition takes a form of discipline that the ego lacks.
Here and now i'm trying to coax my wheel chair bound uncle to go to bed so I can go home and do same. He knows i'm anxious to leave so he's deliberately taking his time. Why he does this is anybody's guess. He has this weird, non sensical ritual he does with his toothbrush, paper towels, and water glass which, in terms of annoyance, is akin to hearing dry nails across a chalkboard while simultaneously being subjected to chinese water torture (...all while having your ear flicked really really hard)...
...what he does is arrange and rearrange these objects on the table in ways that reveal no practical purpose whatsoever. And when he's done doing this he spends several mins staring blankly at it all, looking as if he's worried over whether he skipped a step. In his defense, he has MS and Parkinsons, among other things. Takes lots of meds too. He's starting to crack up a little. Its worrisome. He's getting goofy.
Right now, for example...
He refuses to eat anything with his fingers. Even something like a banana he'll eat with a fork. Currently he's attempting to spear small apple slices with a fork but he keeps missing. All i'm hearing is "clank, clank, clank" as the fork hits the glass bowl...over n over n over again. It's absolutely maddening. I'm exhausted. And he hasnt even done the damn toothbrush ritual yet...
Oh man
An entertaining read, Mike. Between all the medications, the progressive diseases, and the aging mind, it creates a perfect storm for the childlike behaviors and repetitive rituals. Lots of tired moms and dads can relate to those nightly bedtime rituals.
I volunteered at a day care center. A few days into the routine, I was already tired of the lunch battle with a little girl, Elizabeth, and the head teacher. Elizabeth spent most of her time organizing the food on her plate into piles. My guess it was the no-touching-rule. But even after the ritual was done, she’d sit there with the stupid head teacher telling her, "Eat, eat. It’s getting cold".
I got one of those ah-ha flashes. Elizabeth was a Libra. Based on the Librians in my life, often timely decisions was a challenge. So I asked Elizabeth which was her favorite food. She pointed and I told her start there and go around in a circle. She nodded and ate up her lunch. Within a couple of days, she no longer needed direction.
To be fair....
Isn’t that only enforced indoctrination within the consideration of a digestible acceptance of what is reality, defined by the parents who regurgitate the normality of limitation?
Your view of 'fair' limits both you and your children.......or would you disagree?
As to envy and greed....well envy is caused by the lack found within the parent and forced on to the child and greed is caused by the child as a antibiotic to the parents woes!
Or again, would you not agree?
Child rearing is a very adaptive proccess, I observed the use of the word "fair" and it's motivations and acted accordingly.
So I disagree ;)
Have any brothers or sisters?
The usage of "fair" was applied entirely between siblings (a 9 year old girl, 13 year old girl, 15 year old boy and 19 year old pre-woman) and never comparatively used with adults. The expectation of "fair" between a 19 year old and a 9 year old is a touch ridiculous as both age groups have very different needs and wants.
"fair" is a toxic concept that strips individuality away from consideration.
So again, I disagree.
Fair and just are just distractions, one need only be good. Everything falls into place.
I'm not too sure about this PL. A Wahabi trained Muslim who stones a woman or marries an eight year old is utterly convinced they are good.
I'd rather have fair and just.
As C.S. Lewis (famous Christian apologist and author, wrote the Narnia series for those who don't know) once said, when a three year old on the playground shrieks, "That's not fair!", the other children know exactly what is meant. No religious or parental training needed.
I guarantee you he thinks its fair (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fair) (he would treat any woman the same) and just (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/just) (in his mind it's completely moral to do so) also.... all three words have no concrete definitions that aren't wildly influenced by perception.
of the three "good (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/good)" is the most concrete word by definition; though still problematic in your specific example.
Linguistic drift (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drift_(linguistics)) makes communication using pivotal words very difficult.
It seems the desire for equal treatment (only a big deal if you feel you are being shorted, those getting "above" equal treatment seem to be fine with it) is desired naturally by most mammals at least, possibly most living things.
That was hilarious!
Yes, I'm sure the Wahabis, wife beaters, politicians, HS students posting their fun rape videos online, and pedophile priests are fine with it, lol.
Fair would be the male party that led to the stoning of the female party, would also meet some punishment under the law. Even in cases where the woman is raped, and then stoned, the perpetrator gets off scot free.
I haven't found it but there is another video where a monkey next to the monkey being fed, gets shocked when the first monkey eats. The first monkey offered food, refused to eat for quite a long time, not liking the pain experienced by the second monkey.
Peace and quiet, Saturday morning, grateful for the apparent normalcy here....
In my daydream I am watching a cheesy marketing channel. They are selling potato growers. It's a large plastic pot with lipped fissures all round the surface. The demonstrator is putting compost in. As the soil accumulates to the level of a fissure, she places a potato there with a sprout poking out of the fissure. She then buries this and goes on to the next one. She tells us that you can plant 30 plants on one planter. She tells is that even cutting off an 'eye' and placing it next to the fissure should produce a plant. She then goes to a six week old planter. It looks like a bush. You can hardly see the pot. She says you get small potatoes in about ten weeks, but they get bigger if you leave it. She says a good planting correctly fertilised will yield 5 kg.
http://avalonlibrary.net/paula/General/dragon-red.JPG
Red Dragonfly
“After mating, the male and the female dragonfly fly in tandem for laying eggs. As the time approaches for laying eggs, the female dragonfly is seen dipping her abdomen in the water to release the eggs. Like other insects, the dragonflies do not attain the pupa stage, instead they directly transform from the larvae stage to an adult Red Dragonfly.”
“The dragonfly’s agile flight and its ability to move in all six directions exude a sense of power and poise - something that comes only with age and maturity. The dragonfly can move at an amazing 45 miles an hour,  hover like a helicopter fly backwards like a hummingbird, fly straight up, down and on either side. What is mind blowing is the fact that it can do this while flapping its wings a mere 30 times a minute while mosquitoes and houseflies need to flap their wings 600 and 1000 times a minute respectively. “
It gives me the taste to ask you for an apology, I do not know for which reason yet... just to see which way you would become creative.
Talking of apologies, the way of doing it and the reasons for it are different across cultures.
Can you imagine what a foreigner has to learn in order to live in a given culture, here namely American, just to be able to apologize at the appropriate moment, with the appropriate ways
teaching how to apologize to a native from India:
http://blog.authenticjourneys.info/2012/09/3-times-apology-is-expected-by-american.html
When Should I Apologize to an American?
Once when coaching an Indian in the U.S., I asked, “Did you get good customer service at the car dealership?”
My coachee responded by saying, “In my opinion, yes. But, since I do not really know the proper customer service etiquette, I cannot give you an accurate answer.”
I found this answer extremely insightful. It also humbled me. It is very true, as cultures and communication styles differ, also would the expectations in customer service. In day to day interactions between those of different cultures, we not only want to know what is the ideal of the other culture, but we want to know what we should avoid doing so that we don’t offend anyone. Typically, these are the dos and don’ts of cross-cultural interactions. As there is no way to cover all of these dos and don’ts here, I would like to start by sharing three scenarios that if they happen to you, it’s best resolved by a simple apology.
Action: Bumping Into Someone
In India, the idea of personal space is very different than in the U.S. Another very insightful trainee of mine once said, “Even in the U.S., I have noticed that in bigger cities people are more comfortable in close spaces than in smaller towns or villages.” When I considered these words, I realized how true it is. However, on the whole, even in crowded cities in the U.S., if we accidentally touch, hit, or bump into someone in a crowded place, we look at the person in the face or eyes and say ‘Excuse me.’
How to Apologize: When bumping into someone, making eye contact and then saying 'sorry' or ‘excuse me’ is the correct way of resolving or apologizing for this social mistake.
Action: Sneezing / Burping / Body Noises
Americans really don’t like to hear body noises, especially while eating. Any way we can avoid such noises, the better. Of course, it is impossible to avoid these noises in every situation, so we apologize for ourselves or others in these cases. When someone sneezes, typically the person who sneezes says ‘excuse me’ and the others nearby say ‘bless you,’ or ‘God bless you.’ If it is not said by someone in the room, the person who sneezes may think others nearby him are rude or inconsiderate. To get a comical view of this situation, see this clip from Seinfeld.
However, if we are eating with others, and we burp or make some body noise, we apologize for ourselves by saying ‘excuse me.’ If the person him herself does not say this, the others will think the person making the noises is being rude or inconsiderate.
How to Apologize: When sneezing, expect others to say ‘God Bless You” or “Bless You.” Return these words to an American when they sneeze. When burping or making noises while eating apologize by saying ‘Excuse me’ or ‘I’m sorry.”
Action: Arriving or Responding Late
One of the biggest offenses to many Americans, inside or outside of work is to be late. It’s better in most areas of the country to be ready for business meetings at least five minutes before the scheduled time. For those who come even a few minutes or more later without a previous message regarding this (“heads up”), those in the meeting will think the latecomer is not responsible, not taking initiative, disorganized and ‘wasting their time.’ As Americans often think of time as money, especially at work, it’s one of the biggest offenses to an American to be late. If one is unable to inform the meeting chair in advance about lateness, and shows up late, upon entering the room, one should say ‘Sorry, I am late.’
How to Apologize:
For Being Late to a Meeting: “Sorry I am late.”
For E-mail Responses More than 2 Business Days:* “Sorry that I am responding late.” Or “Sorry for the delay.” A way to avoid having to use this apology is upon getting a phone call or e-mail respond quickly by saying, “I have received your e-mail (phone call), and I will get back to you in a few days. If anything urgent is required, let me know, and I will adjust accordingly.”
*”Lateness” is typically within 1-2 business days, but could be less depending on the urgency of the matter. Check with your manager on the correct protocol.
How to Avoid Meetings that Run Overtime (Get Extended)
How an American May Respond to These Apologies:
•After saying, “God Bless You”, the typical response is “Thank you.”
•After saying, “Excuse me.” Or “Sorry, I’m late” or related apologies, an American may respond by saying, “No problem.”
Some may misinterpret this response, “No problem.” to mean that an apology is not necessary. This is not true. An apology is always required. Saying “No Problem” is a way of acknowledging your apology and making you feel better for having made a mistake. If the apology is not said, then it can cause more problems later on.
https://www.newscientist.com/article/2109040-these-are-the-foods-you-should-eat-if-you-want-less-smelly-farts/
Let it rip. Eating slow-release carbs and cutting down on protein may prevent rotten-egg farts according to a study of the gases emitted by human faeces samples.
Farts are mostly composed of odourless gases. There is oxygen and nitrogen from swallowed air, while hydrogen, methane and carbon dioxide are produced when bacteria in the large intestine ferment the carbohydrates we eat.
The distinctive rotten-egg whiff is caused by traces of hydrogen sulphide, which gut bacteria are known to produce from protein. In addition to causing red-face moments, this gas can exacerbate inflammatory bowel disease and increase the risk of bowel cancer. This prompted Chu Yao at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and her colleagues to investigate how different foods affect the amount of hydrogen sulphide is produced in the gut.
Bad farter? Try eating more of these
Potatoes
Bananas
Legumes
Cereals
Wheat
Artichokes
Asparagus
I can imagine the comments on this post....
Dear Chu Yao and your methane smelling colleagues,
It has been my great misfortune that my son happened upon your article about smelly farts. He now knows what foods to eat to to make his farts more pungent than a skunk on steroids. He eats like a weightlifter but he doesn't lift anything heavier than his pants. (Which by the way, he can't manage to get more than half-way up his ass).
He's been expelled from school three times, .... much to his delight of course. Most of his teachers have gotten smart and decided to put his desk outside. (The people that live in the surrounding neighborhood are not amused). Last Sunday he managed to clear out half the church's congregation just fifteen minutes after worship services started. (Thirty-five of the churchgoers thanked him).
But the really bad thing is, now he's getting his buddies in on the act. A few days ago, four of them went down to the local shopping mall and cut loose with a tsunami of flatulence that not only closed down the entire mall, but sent dozens of people to the hospital with respiratory problems. (The hospital wouldn't accept the patients. Instead they were shipped to the outskirts of town to Tommy Macks dairy farm. You know, ... sort of let Tommy Mack get a taste of his own medicine).
Upshot is, all the stores in town got together and decided not to sell the high protein muscle and fart building foods anymore. Now the kids farts don't smell any worse than old man Dawkins. (He hasn't had a bath in six months). Hopefully things will be getting back to normal, although the towns to the west of here might still might get a case of the "Who done that??". Now, if I could just get my son to pull up his pants .............
Some sort of epidemic here? My wife broke her left arm at the wrist last April... I don’t think she fought in the US civil war though, she doesn’t even seem much interested in the current one. :)
A good while back, after a nephew of mine was hospitalized following an incident that was later diagnosed as schizophrenia, I recommended him to the Village and he seemed to find some relief for a time. For the sake of balance however, I need to report that things are not looking good. Medical matters for me are a huge patch of ignorance, and I tend to see the condition more as a crutch than providing any useful insight into what is going on. He is mostly OK (when he takes his meds), but increasingly incapable, or so he feels, of doing anything, even the things that he was doing not so long ago. This is in total contradiction with what he will say when he is way up; then he will say he is capable of being a government minister, but the rest of the time incapable of achieving the very modest ambition of holding down a job (any job), having a girlfriend and a place to call his own. You don’t need a psychiatrist to see this as an existential issue encountered by lots of young people. They expect things to fall into their laps until they realize (sometimes they never do) that they have to take responsibility for their lives and put their vehicle into gear. If the majority never have this crisis, that is because something does actually fall into their laps, namely the example they get from their parents: they knuckle down automatically because they were brought up that way. In this boy’s case, though, his Dad himself dropped out of school, and has always had a sense of entitlement beyond the effort he has been prepared to put in. And naturally he does not put much effort into the predicament of his son, who doesn’t get on with his latest partner. All the work falls on his ex, who has had more influence on their younger son, who is doing well.
The worrying aspect of this sense of entitlement derived from a form of weakness of character is the way it meshes with the sense of entitlement that characterizes the elite. When a society dropout has too much time to browse the Internet and get into all this conspiracy stuff, they get into this positive feedback relationship whereby the one fuels the other and vice versa in an endless spiral. It is all a form of ungrounded idleness from failure or unwillingness to do the hard graft of whatever nature that we came to do without necessarily understanding exactly why. The thing is, you will never find out why until you start doing the work. It’s all about commitment.
I watched a horse die yesterday.
I didn't know he was dying, not at first. He was a rescued thoroughbred (TB) race horse, he was going through drug withdrawls (as they all do when we get them from the track) and had dropped a lot of weight (also typical). We had him in a separate pen with one of our fillies that he got a long with to keep him company. A couple of the local boys had come over and were out looking at the horses when one asked me what's going on with rooster (the TB in the pen) I said he was just sick and we were trying to help him get better; he asked if he was suppose to be laying down so I decided to go check him.
He was partially under a part of his pen's side panel so I disconnected the side panel and moved it thinking maybe he was stuck (or he thought he was stuck), but when he was freed he didn't try to get up & I noticed his tongue was lolling out. I lifted his head and tried to coax him into a standing position, I had one of the boys try to push him into a roll to stand up; but he was just dead weight in our arms. I got on my phone and called our Vet Tech friend to see what she thought about the situation, she said he had looked pretty rough when she checked on him earlier but he was still standing.
While I was on the phone with her I was watching rooster, for about 30 seconds his eyes looked like they were going into REM & at one point rolled completely back into his head, his chest contracted twice and he relaxed; dead.
It's only happened a few times to us so far, but every time is very surreal; luckily he was new to us so no one had grown especially attached but it's a strange moment.
One thing I've noticed with prey animals, with horses especially; when severely stressed they go into a "give up" mode (i call it) they will just lay on the ground and act like they are dead, it's like they just accept the situation. This is a very strange behavior to me, they stop fighting completely and just lay still; like some strange agreement between predator and prey: Once the prey thinks it's beat, it gives up. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apparent_death)
Wikipedia calls it an adaptive defense technique.. but I wonder...
I came home from work ~ couldnt handle it. I phoned my brother's wife and she said that Will is dangerously ill, he is in an isolated room in St. Barts hospital London. He's had 2 lots of Chemo and he has a mouth full of ulcers...but he's not at death's door yet!
He is very weak, he cant pick up a phone, he has CML that FairyFriend just said, but I'm praying ~ and I hope all you can if you'd be so kind to do that for him :bearhug:
The bone marrow wont be needed unless things take a turn for the worst, I found out there is a difference from stem cell donation (taken from the arm) to a bone marrow donation (taken from a hip bone?)
Love & hugs,
Sue
I had to tell my mother today that she is suffering from Stockholm syndrome in relation to her dog,
Wonder if that will achieve anything....
Hi,
The dog calls the shots, she is the boss.My mum deludes herself about it.
The dog was nosing into my son's Halloween sweets, and she called out to him, get your sweets away from the dog! I was thinking - why didn't she tell the dog to leave the sweets...
4 left and counting???? Who will have it?
It should be Ulli
Calling Ulli
Please before you post in this thread consider that this little 'village', created by Ulli, is now only a few posts away from 50000 posts!!
Which I consider as quite a wonderful thing. Yes it is just a forum discussion thread but still 50 thousand posts, 2500 pages!
Thats quite an achievement for any forum let alone a single thread.
So I would like to thank Bill (and all the mods) for creating this superb forum and Ulli for starting this wonderful village!
Brilliant stuff all of you.
Also I would like to state that I have learnt so very much from all who have posted in this amazing thread!
And if Ulli cannot make the 50 thousandth post then I would ask that Bill does?
Thank you all
I understand your intentions, lake. I watch as the cranky-me wants to come out and play and break the rules. Working hard to restrain myself when someone says, do it this way. Know that it's me not you. It also tells me it's time for a mini-fishin' trip. I'll leave an early congrats on 50,000th post.
