Hi Guys, this is my first post. Been reading and delighting in the knowledge you guys have on here. Brilliant. Ok, to topic. So I was looking through the net and saw the secretary of the Iranian Olympic Committee objecting to the mascots. How obvious can you get eh? 9924

Then it seems the 2012 logo spells Zion apparently. Symbolism eh?

And even the dudes in some place in Downing Street are finding things offensive.

What do you think of this? Is it a co incidence or an intentional ignorance? Is it inconsiderate? My two cents on symbolism is with it being so vast that invariably a symbol maybe good to one culture and bad to another. On this case though, I think with the little gold capstone on the Olympic Mascot and the blue stain between the Paralympic Mascot minus capstone on the right, these guys are saying something.

I concur. I have had my antennae out for the symbology of the London games, ever since the I.O.C awarded London the games several years ago.

What concerns me, more than the explicit nature of the mascots and logo, is the probability that, come the games this summer, the marketing machine will shift into high gear to try to induce children to want and parents to buy souvenirs of these things.

Right. Could add the poster from Kubrick's movie A Clockwork Orange to that.
