Back in July, not sure of date, my daughter and I were having trouble sleeping at night, we usually went to sleep around 4:00 am, and slept late. We are total night owls.
On this particular night, my son had stated to me before he went to bed around 1:00am, that he hated horses. He had been spending alot of time around horses during the previous days because his buddy and a girl he was interested in both owned horses and he had been coming home with horse crap and mud on his shoes. He had been spending his time at horse stables, rodeos, county fairs and barrel races. We have never been horse people, I have always been afraid of their powerful strength.
That night my 14 year old golden retriever, who I let outside one last time before I went to bed, was barking in my front yard. I thought she was barking to be let back in but I opened the door and she was barking about 20 feet away, toward the garage. I went outside and at first I couldn't tell what it was except a very large animals. My vision adjusted to the darkness and I realized there were 3 horses staring at me. Initially, I felt fear, the fear changed to amazement and I ran inside and got my 10 year old out of bed because she loves horses and had been begging for horseback riding lessons. I knew she would be thrilled by this visit.
She recognized the horses as ones we drive by down the street. She approached to closely and they started moving toward our neighbor's backyard. Now we were afraid they would get hit by a car, eventhough there are no cars on the road at 4:00am. I drove to the house where I thought the horses came from, the house was dark and quiet. I didn't want to knock on door at this time, so I called the sheriff's department and told them about the 3 horses current location and gave the address where I thought they lived.
I teased my son the next day, telling him he had horse visitors because he had expressed such extreme dislike/hate of them. ;)
