View Full Version : Sleep? Please? Pretty Please?!?

Sooooooo..
This has started aprox two weeks ago.
I've been having serious issues sleeping. I dont understand why, i feel tired! I'm going to bed at a regular time... relaxed, happy, no big issues or anything on my mind thats taking my attention.... but sleep eludes me.
This started at the end of my last block of shift work, I just couldent sleep during the day in prep for work - and even during my shift - when i have the oportunity to sleep for 3 hours, and felt like a zombie, just would not come.
Here's where i did something stupid, and im still paying for it now.
I got home in the morning after work, even more tired... and tried to sleep. 3hours later? still laying there but extreamly frustrated that im still awake. So i decided to slug it out for the day with the idea that a few glasses of Wine will solve my problems. I had 3 glasses, did not feel that drunk, but enough to ensure that when my head hits the pillow i'd be assleep shortly after.
Up in the morning, Feeling all pleased with myself as i knew i'd just slept from 9pm till 8am. 10 minutes later... stomoch is a washing machine and off to the bathroom i go, no shakes or headache that normaly accompany being hung over, just the stomoch and boy was it mad. Was not untill 5pm that i was able to get out of bed and do stuff without feeling the wrath of my stomoch.
From then on my days off, sleep was easier to get, tho it was still a struggle. I put it down to perhaps tis the weather, is just going from winter to summer, some days you need the doona, others you need a fan.
Last night, i knew i had work today, so made plans to be in bed by 9:30pm to ensure i'd be ok for work today.
I got absolutely no sleep at all. Tried sleeping on the bed, the couch, the floor, moving about between there, thought maybe it was the temperature so i got the spare fan, plugged that in out in the main room (my partner was assleep so i was trying not to wake him) and turned it on - only for it to blow up two second later which made me upset (no sleep, and a broken fan, yay)
Stranger still, today, i dont exactly feel tired like i should be either, considering soon i'll have been awake for 48 hours.
Two strange things ive noticed during my attempts to sleep:
My brain seems to forget its normal "filters". Like say you live next to a buisy road, you're used to the traffic thus filter it out. My brain was going OOH! A CAR! ooh another car! a truck! and i'd even open my eyes to some of it as it seems i was focusing on it?
And randomly, it seems 1 per night, i'll have an old song play back in my head at allmost record quality. My posts in the off topic music thread have been two examples of whats popped into my head. I had one more which i was going to put up as well, but the name and artist have dissapeard and so have the tune, so im at a loss to what it was, but i know it was a good song.
Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on with me/my head in relation to sleeping?
Why am i not strugglign right now to keep my eyes open like every other time in teh past ive tried to stay up for 2 days straight?
No sympathy for me plz re the alcohol, even tho its not what i was intending with the tummy, its in a way self inflicted. Tho i'd have thought that 5 days would be ample time for my tummy to recover - it still seems to be sore/upset, one mouthfull of milk and it voiced its opinion, so my meals are pretty basic at the moment to help it recover, tho would the extreamly long recovery for 3 glasses of wine and no aparent dehydration issues be linked to my lack of sleep?
Once again, thankyou all for you're help and advice. The thing i'm not looking forward to is trying to sleep again tonight and not gettign it, i realy need the break you get when you fall assleep, as i feel like ive been awake nonstop for days, but strangely dont have the falling assleep at desk/sleepy eyes to show for it?

I have had the same issues my whole life
Meditations don't work..
Only sleeping pills but they are really bad for the system. shoot at one point I was on serquil, really bad, bad, bad..... felt my heart pounding thru my jaw and my chest, and much freaky pain.
felt like a forced spiritual taking not fun not fun at all.
I have tried everything, from meditations to pills to booze to staying up for days at a clip, ya i would get some sleep , but then it would start all over gain.
I have no answers for you. just an understanding

Hi Tiga,
You poor thing! Life can become pretty miserable when we don't get our "regulation eight" as I call it, each night (or day when on nightshift).
Can I ask how long you have been doing shift work, and what is the nature of your work, i.e. high stress / low stress?
I really don't see three glasses of wine as having an effect after five days. They wouldn't have really helped at the time, but the body should quickly recover.

I have had lifelong insomnia too but what is going on now is a whole 'nother level. To put it simply, I catch sleep when I can. I'm thinking it has a lot to do with the energies coming in now.

when you have started searching for the truth...then all this information, then all the stuff that happens in your life and the things you are doing in life - you reivew it and then it makes you think...I used to be a early sleeper...compared to my collegues. I have to sleep when it gets to about 1..that's the latest, even if I had assignments due or what ever I just can't stay up like some of friends can.
But now, my sleeping patterns have changed so much. I don't need that much sleep to be energetic and efficient during the day. I can sleep for only 2 - 3 hours and be productive.
however I have the same problem is my stomach. Having short time sleeps or no sleep, in the morning or the night before eating and drinking to help me sleep~ WHOP BAM~ toilet trip for me~
the main thing that keeps me up - I think alot about different things when I am alone. mainly about life. Do you have anything that you are constantly thinking about when your awake?? or when you say to yourself I want to sleep, let me sleep then these thoughts pop up preventing you from it, do you know what they are? I don't think anyone here knows what you are thinking except to realise it yourself.
I fall asleep because I think I was practicing meditation lying on the bed...then when my eyes open again its like the next day already...hum...
For the sake of my stomach I try to sleep without disturbing it - have you tried listening to soft music? or even guided meditation mp3?? They could help.

Your working nonrhythmic shifts.
Your diet is all over the place and lacks rhythm.
The light is changing. Less nighttime more daytime. Adjustment required.
You are not drinking enough water
There is something bubbling up from deep inside the conscious - the songs are abstract clues. My wife and I get this all the time - usually in the morning while waking up though, not at the expense of sleep. If you can remember the song Google the lyrics and have a read. You might find yourself singing it before you remember it.
From then on my days off, sleep was easier to get, tho it was still a struggle. I put it down to perhaps tis the weather, is just going from winter to summer, some days you need the doona, others you need a fan.
Will make it worse, but not cause.
I think you also got a bug of some kind that your body is dealing with.
There is always the option of asking for healing. You can do this yourself (can't hurt to give MASH a try - that is, the Mobile Astral Surgical Hospital!) sounds whacked, but has worked for me. Just mentally ask for service. The catch is they work with you when you are asleep. So you'll need to ask for some assistance with that too. If this doesn't sound right, you can ask for actual healing here.
If you ask, you'll get it.

The shift work is easy.. .the hardest part is keeping amused for the 12 hour dayshift. There's literaly nothign to do but surf the web as the only real work i do is when someone knocks on the door and asks for a key, and the 1ce a day trip downstairs to swap tapes. on nightshift its even moreso quiet, but with the benefit of TV and me being able to bring my laptop in, and a 3 hour nap.
Last night.. My partner and I rented a few movies from the local store and had just finished watching one, "The King of Kong" - nerdy documentry about an arcade game champion. So that finished around 9, in bed by 9:30, we normaly just lay there chatting about random stuff (what he's going to do with his pc, if i can get a shift swap to go somewhere with him on a certain weekend.. basic not realy brain-using stuff) so was about 10pm before i'd actualy started to close my eyes and try to sleep.
I'll agree with the diet and water, all of which is a continual thing to improve. Tho with the shifts, i have allways been, and still am confident that i should be ok with it. I've done shift work on-off for about 5 years, if im tired sleepign in the day is no problem normaly. The last day of shift work (two days dayshift, 6am-6pm then the oposite for two days nightshift) i setup the day/night to reset my sleeping pattern. Taking the 3am-6am nap, once home i stay wake all day, leaving me tired at night so i normaly get a solid night sleep that night, just this time around.. no go!
How did you know i wasnt getting enough water by the way? o_O
Will make alot more effort to catch the song and write down the name and investigate the lyrics if it happens again.
Will have some collidial silver when i get home to help if i have a bug. Will keep away from the MMS for a bit - with my stomoch this touchy the smell/taste may discomfort it too much, because it seems impossible to find any type of fruit juice that they dont pack vitamin C into. It kills the color and taste of flavored cordial too :(
Thanks muchly all
oh - p.s - i rarely drink, those 3 glasses of wine, even tho drunk over dinner - was still stumbling down the hallway. I do believe i forgot the drink at least 1L of water before bed rule this time tho - hense why i guess i wasnt too surprised with the stomoch thinking it was a hangover - it was just weird all the other feeligns associated with being hung over wernt there. Was like my stomoch decided to go into a spasm and i had to stay by the toilet untill it was done.

Just because you have been ok for 5 years, doesn't preclude suddenly not being ok.
Times are a changing.
Our bodies are changing, regardless of you subscription to any of the theories about energetic changes, we ourselves change with the march of time.
Water? A common problem, so its safe for you to assume it was a lucky guess. Or, you may like the theory that my higher-self helped with it on the basis of the implicit permission in the OP for us to give you the best of our commentary by whatever means available. The wiggling-room created by doubt gives a lot of room to maneuver without violating freewill.

I feel for you, it's totally bizarre. I have no solid advice, just a couple of suggestions:
First of all, have you tried doing some physical exercise before going to bed ? That often helps.
If that doesn't work, then maybe you just need to go with it for a while, let your system sort itsself out.
Sorry I can't suggest anything more helpful

atm here is 7:30 AM, didnt sleept this night.
That wouldnt be such weirdness if i had sleep in last two days :)
Well i never got nerved by it and thinking that i need to do while my body tells me otherwise. Very often i felt tired until i get into bed, than i start staring in night like old owl hehe
Than i would simply get up and do something.
Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on with me/my head in relation to sleeping?
That could be zillion things! do you wish that i start suggesting answers to that question?
Dunno about you, but for myself i quite noticed that i actually dont need to sleep much to got my batteries filled. And most important part i feel the changes on physical and spiritual level as part of awakening.
And that is fine answer and workable for me.
Maybe skipping routine would be first step to learn that creator of your universe is you not some given knowledge or learned routines by other people arround you.
There are people that doesn't eat in this world, still they have strength, also there are ones that doesn't sleep yet still they have strength.. All they did is learned their own power and how to get into control.
And maybe best answer from that i can give you is: Do not force yourself to do what others do just because they do it! And let it float and learn something completely new from it

Don't exercise before going to bed. This just gets your blood and heart
pumping and wakens up your brain. Exercise is for the morning, not at
night.
I'm currently going through the same problems that you are. I lay in bed
3 hours and still not asleep. I think i'll try the fan trick next. Maybe i'm
just to hot.
Here is a couple of things you shouldn't be doing before going to bed.
1: Do not exercise
2: Do not eat, just before going to bed. Eat around 2 hours before that.
Eating makes your digestive tract work hard and that will keep you awake.
3: Do not play on the computer just before going to bed. It tricks your
brain into thinking it's daytime.
Try to keep the house quite while you are sleeping and if you have to,
make the room dark so that your brain thinks it's night time.

Ahh just the way you put it Anchor, as if you specificly knew :P which techniclally i gues you do so i guess just a bit weirded out by that. And yes i did give permission, tho i believe in things i cannot see and wish to heck i could ive never had the luck - so my query was based around surprise that you may have had more insight to whats going on because you can see stuff i cannot.
oh dear humanalien, number two gets violated every single day. ITs generaly the last thing i do before i go to bed, but when i go to bed we never try to sleep straight up, Alex and i allways end up talking and loose track of time and look at the clock and its an hour later - so that may be my wind down time from the pc?
I've allways been the kind of person that needs 8hours of sleep a day, changing to requiring less under such short timeframe would be a bit worrying. I did consider just staying up last night and jumping on the PC again, but did not as i consider it my sleepign time, and if i could have slept and i missed out because i gave up and stayed up would have sucked
When i sleep i allways keep the place dark. I can only ever sleep in my bed/home when its quiet and dark. But anywhere else its weird, i can sleep on a buss, and allmost caught some Z's here on my desk when i put my head down for a few. Heard some foodsteps and someone touch the door so sat up with a start - and good thing too - boss saying goodbye for the evening.
I guess if i require less sleep, i'd be ok with that change. Moreso at the moment, im used to haveing 8 hours of sleep, and i still went to bed when i felt tired, it was just upsetting/aggrivating/worrying to me to get nowhere with falling assleep when i know im tired and wanted to sleep.
Hoping i can sleep tonight, but if not i'll still be trying to all thru the night. Tho i dont feel like a complete braindead zombie like i normaly do when im sleep deprived, my top eyelids feel heavy/slow, and going logner than 48hrs without sleep wouldent be the best for my brain, and with another 12hour dayshift tomorrow it will feel liek the day takes two weeks to get thru :(

Sorry to hear about your troubles Tigahawk.
I,m afraid all I can do is understand and have sympathy.
I don,t ever remember having a full nights sleep.
When i was a newly wed 36 or so years ago I would have to wait till she went to sleep then get up and do something , anything.
Just lying in bed tryng to get to sleep is absolute torture to me, get up and read a book, go for a walk, anything, but, just laying there staring into the dark is just like suffering to me.
I have come to grips with it over the years, so has my family.
It is very simple for me, don,t fight against mother nature.
For whatever rymn or reason i am nocturnal, always have been, and thats ok.

Heartfelt sympathy here having suffered from spells of insomnia off and on all my adult life. You have received some valid advice and I don't have much to add but on the subject of exercise while I agree not just before bed an exercise routine during the day (even walking briskly to work and back or getting off the bus/train one stop early) can be helpful. Alcohol certainly sends you off to sleep but has the unfortunate effect of re-stimulating you to wake up a couple of hours later - likewise tea and coffee are stimulants. Meditation/relaxation sometimes works or listening to a 'talking book' - especially if it is quite heavy - can send you off. Sometimes worry, being overly excited (remember Christmas Eve in childhood?) or resentment can cause insomnia and then there is little you can do except wait for exhaustion to set in. Sorry not to be more helpful and good luck!

Hi Tiga
My sympathies. I think the posters here have given many valid points.
I can offer you distance Reiki, which is very relaxing and often can bring on sleep. Not sure what time it is there ... let me know when you need it and I can take some time, even during the day at work. Only time I can't do it today will be US Central time 11 AM - 2 PM ... have a big stinking meeting then.
Just let me know the time.

This is a list of herbs that assist in sleep.
Valerian (can get a tincture which you squirt into your mouth)
Lime leaves
Passion Flower
These can be mixed, but start with Valerian. If you cannot get the tincture, make a tea out of the herb with boiling water, put a lid on it for 5 minutes then drink. Usually, it works within 20 minutes.

Physical training!
Exhaust you're body on a regular basis and you will pass out easy at night =) As in going to the gym or go out jogging/running/walking/swimming(whatever fits you're current conditioning). Just my 2 cents.

I had a similar problem in 2002 - zero sleep for two weeks. A well-meaning doctor gave me some pills that made me sleep about 16 hours per day for a week, then back to not being able to sleep. The week of sleep was like being locked in a nightmare I couldn't wake from. I ditched the pills and went back to "grandma's remedies". I would exercise long and hard in the morning, to the point of exhaustion. My fitness improved a lot but sleep was still elusive.
The thing that cured me was sex. There's a saying: "Good cu... (I mean orgasm), good sleep."

Tigahawk I can completely empathize.
I got back from vacation in mid July and have only had one full night's sleep since then. I used to sleep through the night no problem and still fall asleep pretty easily, but now I wake up anytime from 1:00am-3:00am and my stomach is in knots worrying about EVERYTHING. I did quit my depression medication of years before going on vacation and I am wondering if the medication was suppressing all of these worries allowing me to sleep.
We have also had a lot of issues surrounding water this past year. Our basement flooded, travel trailer flooded, car overheated, sink drains leaking, taps dripping, refrigerator leaking, fish tanks leaking - all after having lived here for 10 years with no issues.

Monitor your energy levels, if they stay normal...don't worry.
I hardly sleep. Most nights I only get about 3 to 4 hours of sleep…if that much. I don’t dream nor do I ever feel tired. It’s like my body is powered by some unseen mysterious force. I have other unexplainable physical experiences… but for the most part I feel great, healthy and sharp as ever. I no longer question such strange occurrences in my body simple because the “Pros” greatly outnumber the “cons”.
Also, when you have much on the mind, Insomnia is the normal result. However, seeing that tiredness isn’t one of the symptoms this just might be a good thing…well in my case it has proven to be.
Wish you well…

Try adding raw onions to you diet on sadwiches or other stews. This brings about the body's natural sleep chemicals. My husband was an insomniac when I met him and now sleeps like a baby.
Don't worry about the breath/odor use honey and watchit go away. It works if you work it. Sleep usually within thirty minutes if you take a 1/4 inch slice and put it on the sandwich.
Good luch and sweet dreams.

Hello TigaHawk,
My sympathy for you! I am sleep deprived for almost 7 years now.I have experienced almost all known Sleeping 'disease' and once did not had any sleep for full 14 days in a row.. (reasons combined with my spirituall awakening and suffering from an 'over awarness')
Like you,I am working night shifts and balance is difficult to achieve.
A few years ago I wrote a similiar post as you did with this one,on another forum and got a reply that I really liked.I printed it and kept it under the pillow, also saved it under 'drafts'.so here it goes,by "tj"-
"It is about light, physical tiredness, and letting go emotionally.
First, for at least one to two hours before trying to go to sleep,
make sure you do not eat anything, if you drink, make it hot green
tea,
or somthing with low amounts of caffeine...like hot chocolate
with more water and less chocolate....wink....
then lighting...
turn off TV, computer monitor, sit in dimly lit rooms,
calming environment....low noise levels....listening to
softer music...no Rock n roll to relax...but soothing....
Then make sure you are really "done" physically.
You've been up at least 12-16 hours, you've had exercise,
you've walked a little worked a little, danced a little...
and now you are ready to rest...if you do not move during
your awake time, you won't be ready to lie still....
the hardest and most difficult part is
"letting go emotionally...."
Everytime I lay down, my mind wants to dwell on the past...
mistakes I made at work, errors I made with relationships,
words i shouldn't have said...heck, if i let my mind
go where it wanted to, I would sit up for hours,
giving myself stress and grief over problems
I missed on tests back in school when I was 10 or 14....
it's just how the mind is like a dog on a meaty bone...
it will chew and stew and go over and over
the same issue and same ground...
Sometimes, we need to listen to those thoughts,
as they are keys to solving current troubles and avoiding
pitfalls that would make us stumble....
but at night, or just before we sleep...
it is a wasted exercise to chase down all those negative
things and replay them like a broken record.
Since I was 8 years old,
It has always taken me about one hour to fall alseep...
I would toss and turn and worry about all the times
i caused others pain...not recalling once when some one
hurt me or did me wrong, just all the things I did bad or naughty...
Anyways,
in prayer and meditation I found a solution that works.
First, state out loud that you are done with the day,
tell yourself it is time to let it go and fall asleep.
Then, i fyou beliee in prayer, ask God/Creator...
to release you from worries and fear....to give you
rest and soundness, wholeness/peacefull mind.
Then, as you close your eyes create a "story"
or meditiation place...for me, I create fictional
landscapes and place a princess in danger, or a helpful
girl who is rescuing friends or a big island party,
where there is friendship and comdey and so forth...
(Actually my mind thinks I am creating a "romance novel"
but by the time I set the scene, dress the characters,
and get some conversations rolling, I am so deeply asleep
that I never get to the romance part...hahahahaha...
so in that way it's not a "sexy fantasy" just something to
keep my mind busy, creating and designing and fillingin
the background details...while I drift off to a soft sleep...
without beating my self up for things I cannot change,
and without worrying away the few hours of rest I eke
out of this busy life....winks.
anyway...it takes mental gymnastics sometimes
to jump over what is blocking you from sleep...
and thatis how I dealt with it...
other than "tricking" our minds to keep it off
the worrisome bone....the only other way to find peaceful
sleep is to accept...
when a terrible or horrible thing comes to mind,
accept it...don't fight it or deny it or shoo it away...
just say, "yep. I did do that. Thank you for remembering.
People make mistakes all the time. If I hadn't done that
I would have never discovered....________ about myself
or about the boss or about that friend....
just accept the information, but step back and away
from guilt or sorrow or regret...
know that we seem to always hav eto choose between
two painful choices, and we usually are thinking our
choices are the best for us and those we love...
give yourself permission to live and learn...
and then give your self love and forgiveness
over the problem...
Not one of us can yet predict everything in the future,
not one of us can travel back in time, yet, to change or
fix it...so...knowing that hindsight is 20-20...
go ahead and allow your self to be imperfect,
and love yourself...faults and all....
Then your mind won't find any fun in the normal torture
routine, it won't hit the mark or sting as hard when the thoughts
arise...and you will be able to sleep "faster"
knowing that you know this world keeps spinning,
the sun will rise again...and you will have a chance
to do it right next time...you have already promised not
to get caughtin it again...so do not let your mind
or thoughts reach in and hurt your heart...
you know your intentions and you have already forgiving yourself.
As the mind tries to remind you and guilt you into sadness,
say it out loud, "I have already apologized, and that is enough."
and you can even say out loud, "Next topic"
or some such nonsense to move yourself into a new thought...
something with a bit of humor and love..or just light...
something where you know you have done your best,
and that is all you can do...
We are not handeld every tool to deal with life that comes at us.
We are always making decisions on the fly...
life is speeding by and we are pushed or have to jump in
feet first, and hit the ground running...
Relax and let it go
and grab hold of the rest that has been eluding you...
You are fine, the world will forgive you...
and life will go forward...
(Hey if any of this helps...
just thank God for me, okay?
He tapped me on the should and had me wake up to read this...
and I am really barely awake....
so if it helps, then I thank God for you!!!!!!)
I pray right now that anything that was blocking your peace
and rest will be removed. I pray that God takes away
all the recrimonations and stress and worryies that have
held you captive...I pray you and your mind will line up with
the will of God, for restful sleep, for forgiveness
and mercy and for wholeness of mind, sould and spirit.
I pray that you will have sleep, with calm and peaceful dreams,
where wisdom and love will visit and where angels
will protect your heart and mind granting you a paradise
of rest and relaxation....where love is victorious,
and where life/energy and hope is restored and renewed.
Big hugs,
and wishes for joy and laughter,
for clarity and wisdom....
TJ
Hope you find something there for you Tiga,as I did
Take good care and let us know how you are doing!

ktlight is right the herbs above work very well. you can also ask your spirit helpers (guides) to help you please sleep - when you are going to sleep. also saying a short mantra like "relax and sleep" over and over again may help.

Its still strange, i know im tired and i feel tired but i dont feel tired like ive just deliberately pulled an all nighter or something?
I am getting mood swings from lack of sleep. In tears of frustration after spending 3 or so hours trying then Alex comes home and im yelling at him over something you wouldent spend a fart of interest on.
My usual trick for sleeping isnt helping at all. The trick was once ur in bed and eyes closed, is to kickstart dreaming. Like in my head im godzilla stomping thru a town or on a nimbus going full pelt towards some mountain, stuff like that, then its not normaly long till im out.
Thanks for all the imput, going to give a few sugested things a try and get back to you's.

That's where you went wrong TigaHawk, You ONLY had 3 glasses of wine,...... It's a rookie mistake, we've all done it...........
Which also explains the stomach thing in the morning......did you have hair of the dog?.....again a rookie mistake........:)
Seriously, i know what you mean i can go 3 days without sleeping, i don't need a lot of sleep but the zombification does catch up with me now and again. I'm afraid I'm in the same boat and would be interested in any good advice.
Good luck and i will send you some sleepy eye lids psychically (I'm no good with time zones so that could get a bit hairy) but hell, I'm gain :)
Take care

This is a list of herbs that assist in sleep.
Valerian (can get a tincture which you squirt into your mouth)
Lime leaves
Passion Flower
These can be mixed, but start with Valerian. If you cannot get the tincture, make a tea out of the herb with boiling water, put a lid on it for 5 minutes then drink. Usually, it works within 20 minutes.
I use a chamomille tincture when I can't sleep. Tinctures are easy to make for yourself. Just search on the web. But here is a rough guide:
steep finely chopped fresh herbs in vodka for 2 weeks in a jar, shake every day. You can use the tincture then or if you want to make a spagyric (more powerful) filter out the herbs, calcine them over heat (outside) until they are a grey white powder. Add back to the tincture and filter out again after another week.
3 drops of chamomille tincture in water is enough to send me off to sleep. Gives me really strong dreams too!!

I have friends that say black cherry concentrate helps. My wife is drinking it too. Something to try. May the sand man come your way tonight ;)
I believe that black cherry concentrate also acts as an anti-inflammitory.

I can certainly relate and sympathize as Iʻve been insomniac since preschool. Iʻm ALWAYS looking for something to help. I recall the last time I slept 8 hours - it was just over 2 years ago and quite a pleasant surprise. I remember it very fondly. :)
I was looking at something on YT yesterday and found the following vids shown below. Both techniques related to acupuncture points and EFT tapping and a few other modalities. Iʻve heard of EMDR before but never really explored it so canʻt tell you much about it.
However, I tried both techniques and both worked to slow my brain down. Iʻve got a lot of things iʻm doing at the moment and itʻs stressful, but both of these helped lower the stress and balance the brain. Give them a try.

I just thought of something else that can help some people that work on the computer at night. Try f.lux. It changes the color of the light emitted by the monitor to an easily adjustable peach color; a little weird and may take a few days to get used to. The color of light on a monitor is too similar to daylight and can push the brain into daylight awake mode that prevents melatonin from being excreted. Itʻs easy and more relaxing on the eyes. Daytime light can be adjusted as well.
Hope it helps!

Would I dare to ask if you are going through menopause? Because I am and one of the many things happening now if lack of sleep or waking up in the middle of the night and not sleeping again, etc.
The only thing that worked for me is once in bed, paying attention to my breathing just the same as when you meditate as I realized I was thinking a lot on daily stuff and that kept me awake. Also, melatonin has helped.

This is happening to many of us now. Booze seems to "solve" issue but takes you to lower frequency--I had some very nasty encounters and strongly suggest you clear the body and get back on track.
This is not an easy time. As hard as it is, you agreed to come here now

Dear Limor;
you do well. Thank you for positive energy. The solution is compassion. I prey that all of you succeed in this. It is vital for the world, but it is easy to call shots from the side.
You live it, and I know that is something else. Peace be with you

Hi Tigahawk- I don't know if youi got my pm or not, but if not i will tell you what I do, and that is I take 1 melatonin tablet (3mg i think) and 3 valerian capsules 1 hr before bed. Works almost every night, except when there is a full moon. Full moons normally are very disruptive for sleep for me and my hubby, but Im used to that. ugg Sleep is a wonderful thing, and sleep deprivation is a cruel and unusual punishment. :frusty:

Hi Tiga hawk I feel for you I really do. I went through a phase where I through I was never gonna sleep again! Nightmare! Theres been alot of great advice on this thread which I might try myself. The problem with the shift is I think most of us going through and getting to the point where we'll be needing less sleep anyway and I think our bodies are preparing us for that.
In the meantime when its all too much though we definately need a little help to catch up. This is going to be a bit contraversial but Ive been using Edward Alexanders guided meditation and it works a treat for me. Now I know hes banned and deservedly so IMO but Ive been finding it amazing to get me off when Im desperate for sleep. The only thing is it does sound more like a hypnotherapy to me than a guided meditation,so if theres any hypnotherapists out there who could check this one out for me Id appreciate. As another poster noted it does sound a little like getting probed lol.
But Il be honest it makes me as limp as a baby and sometimes Im asleep before its even finished. Wishing you sweet dreams Tiga Love Lisa x

"Suffering is attachment" once said a Zen master.
Sleep is no different.
Lying their worrying and anxious-oh when will sleep arise. Awake all night worrying causes one to have a shiver vibration of fear the next day.(Yoga nidra can help add in impermanence for deeper insights and is much healthier than benzodiazepines)
Equally as unhealthy is not allowing the body to rest and keeping busy- shift work-argh and family responsibilities-helpful tips that minimise the physical pain-light light meals single foods-avoid processed foods refined sugars and coffee and alcohol is a no no -fruits-ginseng-water+++ green teas- spirulina are excellent- Plan ahead; if you know it's going to be few days without sleep, bank sleep prior too, be disciplined, focus a time of day ideally 2-5am were you can rest the body ideally not more that an hour-because over this time and it draws the brain into deep sleep and this can be really painful to arise from. An interesting mechanism the body adopts if it needs to shut down and your overriding (and if brahmachara is your practise)it all will spontaneously sexually release!!!! (i no!). If you have an opportunity to sleep for more than an hour say two hours. Prepare the environment-closing curtains clean bedroom and ear plugs-gee the vividness of dreams as the brain/consciousness desperately and rapidity reboots itself. Accept that hallucinations are a natural part of sleep deprivation-conversations with john lennon on the album imagine will be normal and yes delusionary spirits-faces do emerge from the walls and ceilings. Placing these challenges to one side-withdrawing from sleep can be a helpful therapeutic aid to meditation. The minds natural tendency to crasp is diminished. Application of these tips leads one to be quiet detached and non-reactional state. Once i was involved in a road traffic accident. It was a simple collision. It was not my fault. As i had worked 7 nights i was experiencing that detached calmness. The driver of the other vehicle was furious. I couldn't reassure the women and could only smile. She reported me to the police. They took me into custody on the suspicion that i was under the influence of drugs supported by the fact that sleep deprivation make you look like death. Whilst waiting in the police cell for the blood test to come back the sleep deprived hallucinations arose. Oh what demons, headstands helped to reverse the situation but only reinforce in the police's mind that they had a right one here (ha)
Remember there will be times that to sleep could cause the loss of your life (military application to one-side) a friend who drives regularly to the Kazakhstan-china boarder knows that if he were to sleep on trip in Siberia he would awake with a gun in his head and no vehicle. Thankfully he knows a good pharmacist! although this is inappropriate for the ordinary lay sleep depriavar.
Last week in the middle of a 56 hr awake, this came on the car radio (japanese endurance game show came to mind).

As you've felt in this post, this is at the end 72hr two hours to go yippee proper sleep.

I don't know if anyone posted it on this thread, Try Melatonin it works for me. Its natural and does the job. Hope it Helps.
I have been using a combination of 4-5mgs of Melatonin and a cup of warm to hot Chamomile tea every night right before bed for years. It is the only thing that puts me to sleep. Also, it is important to establish your own individual circadian rhythm. This is the point or time, at which your body will allow you to go to sleep. For instance, I cannot go to sleep and stay asleep throughout the night, before 10:30 PM. Any time after 10:30 PM is fine. I also cannot drink coffee or tea after 1:00 PM in the afternoon. If I do, I'm starring at the ceiling. Wine always allows me to fall asleep, but I am then jolted awake around 1:00 AM and cannot-cannot go back to sleep.
There are some great suggestions on this thread. Try a few. Combine a few, until you find that which helps you.
You also have to consider that there are great energies flowing into us from the 11/11/11 influx. These are energetic energies that are giving us a boost and are helping us to cleanse old unwanted memories and bad habits from within. They will intensify. So try and find some good sleep practices and stick with them.:lazy:

Hello toothpick
Exactly the same for me for a very long time - I take sleeping tablets but they just do not work. The night before last I was awake all night and had to take my son to another town early the following morning and arriving home late afternoon I tried to sleep again to no avail. Last night fresh from the shower I had a full glass of Southern Comfort and a sleeping tablet - fell asleep after about an hour until 8:30 this morning - my first night's sleep for months and it feels great! I feel much empathy for any other insomniacs and my heart goes out to them - I know full well the frustration of laying there in the dark wide-awake while all around are fast asleep ...
Best regards to all. JP

I fall asleep very easily, but cant stay asleep for long. Usually 3 or 4 hours. I used to sleep for 8-9 hrs easily not too long ago. Something has changed in my sleep patterns as well.

I'm with many of you here, I’ve been an insomniac for a good 20 years now, but lately it's just been insane.
Just to clarify last night, as a normal example:
Could not sleep, got up at around 4.30am. Made a cup of tea, then sat in front on TV on low volume reading for a while until I felt sleepy. Went back to bed about 6am. Got up again at 7am. No good, still couldn’t sleep! Cannot shut off my mind, cannot get comfortable, and I still don't feel that tired! Felt like another tea and a bite to eat so I got up. More reading with TV in the background. Soon it was 8am, with daylight streaming in through the curtains. Went back to bed, and finally got off to sleep for a few hours about 9ish (it being a saturday it didn’t matter so much).
This has been a repeating pattern lately (and I too worked shifts, for ten years until I quit a couple of months ago), so I’ve always blamed it on that, but increasing energies at this time might also be a reason why the problem has suddenly worsened. I know I should exercise more, improve diet etc, but whatever the cause I know all your pain. It really is very frustrating, and in a particularly bad period I resort to sleeping pills.

How is your sleep now? Anything work?
I'm with Snowbird on the melatonin & hot tea advice. If chamomile doesn't work well enough try valerian root tea (that's what I'm using now). If I take one of my 300mcg melatonin pills, drink it down with a hot cup of valerian root tea, I am out in less than an hour, stay asleep at least 6 hours, & do not feel groggy at all the next day. The only thing I complain about with the melatonin is that after taking it every night for 7-10 days straight, it seems to lose its potency. So I usually just take it every other night instead of every night now.

As you don't seem to feel tired Tigahawk I would just go with the flow and not worry about it at all. There are loads of things to do with the extra time instead of lying there wide awake worrying why you're not sleeping. This is what happened to me a couple of years ago - lasted a couple of years too - and now that it's gone and I get regular sleep I miss the extra time I could devote to my hobbies ! So I would say enjoy it while you can.

ktlight is right the herbs above work very well. you can also ask your spirit helpers (guides) to help you please sleep - when you are going to sleep. also saying a short mantra like "relax and sleep" over and over again may help.

You should command your body to sleep. Just keep saying 'sleep' to yourself, having taken a cup of Valerian tea which brings about a healing sleep, and you wake up without grogginess.

Hi all, i used to suffer from not being able to sleep until i tried Valerian Root ( in tablet form available in any health store or online).
I would take one tablet, about half an hour before bed, and have a really good nights sleep.
I dont take it anymore and still can sleep wonderfully.
Below is some information about the root, feel free to do your own research too :)
Introduction to Valerian:
Valerian is a hardy perennial flowering plant with sweet-smelling pink or white flowers. The name Valerian means “to be strong or healthy” in Latin, and this translation is generally regarded to refer to its medicinal use, though it is suggested that it also refers to the strong odor.
Valerian is native to Europe, South Africa, and parts of Asia and was introduced to North America. Ancient Greeks used the plant for a variety of medical disorders ranging from liver problems, digestive ailments, and urinary tract disorders to nausea and insomnia. Valerian has also been used for centuries for nervous conditions and has been traditionally used for sleeplessness, epilepsy, nervousness, hysteria and as a diuretic.
Common Uses:
Valerian has often been used in complementary and alternative medicine for its sedative properties. It has been recommended for epilepsy but that has not been supported by modern research. Currently, the herb is mainly used as a remedy for insomnia.

I can understand and empathize with everyone here.
Sleeping is beyond difficult for many reasons... at an energetic, spiritual, and physical level. I've been pulling 2 and 3 hours a night for a while now (with occasional blessings of 6 hour sleeping every 4 or 5 days), and it's really difficult to function in this world because of it sometimes. I have a friend who goes several nights in a row without sleeping now as well.
I'm not sure if this might help anyone, but my friend's father suffered from insomnia for about 11 years due to a construction accident. He had a saw drop 15 feet and land on his head in 2000 and as a result, could only sleep in about 5 minute spurts. The doctors thought it might be neurological, but found no fool proof way to resolve it. He tried everything from eastern to western medicine... and nothing offered a permanent solution.
Until he started taking this suppliment called "New You". It's an all organic suppliment aimed at detoxing the body, and restoring natural function to the petuitary gland. After about a week of taking it, he started getting about 6 hours of sleep each night... and after 3 months of taking it, he's feeling extremely blessed to have stumbled upon it. He's even seen lean muscle mass restored (he had to buy all new shirts because of this! haha ) and has so much energy and clarity. He owns an alternative healing clinic locally here, and was so moved by his results that he started selling the vitamins himself. I talked my father into giving it a shot, and his results are almost identical.
If you guys are interested at all, it's worth looking into!
I actually started taking New You about two days ago (as I'm now distributing the product line myself, haha! Us 23 year olds gotta eat somehow! ;) ) so, we'll see what it does for me.

I hope we all find some meditative recharge soon. Best of luck to everyone!

Whatever type of sandwich you like or salad, load it with raw onions slice or slices, which brings on natural body chemicals stimulating relaxation and sleep. It can't hurt. I usually try a fried baloney sandwich with lettuce tomatoe and a slice of onion.
Happy sleeping.
