Hallo Randels from California,

We are all praying and thinking of you here. I have an elder family member who watches all the news stations and reads the newspapers everyday. I told him about the Canary Islands -he said he hasn't seen anything about it. I am now updating him everyday and he said still nothing in the papers or media about the island or El Hierro. I sent a report to one of our local news stations and sent an e-mail to a friend of mine who is in the film industry.

Also contacted some friends of mine in traditional community -they are praying for you. Have noticed for a while that the people in traditional ways here in the US -their ceremonies and prayers have shifted a lot. Just seems to have more depth more intensity for our earth and her people.

We love you

Thank you Nora. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU !
I am just trying to 'get out there' what is being supressed.
You are so right, we are all related, this is NOT about the Individual, it is about the Collective. I understand as much as everyone else here that there are so many changes and upheavels, in this World, in our Lives. Some for the better, Some not, However; we are ALL entitiled to be informed, whether we like the information or not.
It is how we deal with it that is the true measure of our Mind, our Hearts, our Body and our Soul.
You are a remarkable Lady,

AMZER ZO !! WAKE UP !! GET OUT OF BED :)

can you start plotting a manual graph please ???? The gov. is not publishing the energy accumulated anymore :(
You are the BEST at this,.,,.

Coffee... what did I do with the coffee maker... oh yeah... used the timer for time-lapse videos of intruders... damn raccoons... Coffee...

All right, that, now, disappeared "new" graph was just an upside down version (1/nE) of the sneaky black-greenish one (nE) over a shortened time scale (days of current month instead of since the beginning) which flattens the trends.

Woohoo !! Nice one Paul :)

Note to Amzer zo..... Why has the graph changed structure ??
http://thepythoniccow.us/energia_HIERRO.jpg

LOOK !! Graph now REMOVED... long green snakey thing that has nowhere else to go..has just disappeared.. lets hope their just either going to show Green or they are jigging something somewhere...

[Mod-edit: the graph went blank because their web server is configured not to show the graph when you link it from another site. You have to go directly to that site to see it. But I have a work around -- I copied the image to my website, and changed your IMG link to point there. So now the graph is showing in its full glory. -Paul.]

The blue dots one (Z Km) shows the spatial distribution of where these tremors occurred, getting an idea if they are getting closer to surface or remaining at depth.

Glad that their original one is back!

Welcome!

One thing I noticed is that, now, the seismograms (see post # 223 (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?30888-After-tirelessly-updating-Avalon-for-weeks...it-s-official-evacuation-is-in-progress&p=316931&viewfull=1#post316931)) seems to be updating on the go, without much delays (about 10-15 minutes)... and things have quieted down quite a bit...

Have a nice sleep

Earthquakes under El Hierro in the Canary Islands: What can we expect?

Erik Klemetti on August 1, 2011, 1:04 PM

Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of buzz in the volcano world (at least in the internet) after some seismicity under El Hierro, one of the many volcanoes that make up the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa. The seismicity, although mostly of low magnitude (< M2), has been of high volume, with over 1,000 of this microquakes occurring since the swarm started in early July. Almost all the seismicity has been confined to depths of 9-16 km below the surface, which in a place like the Canary Islands, is close to/across the boundary of the lower crust and the upper mantle in an oceanic setting such as this. The question on everyone's mind is this: is El Hierro preparing for an eruption and, if not, what is going on underneath the volcano?

Before we can tackle those questions, we need a little context for the magmatism on the Canary Islands. The archipelago (one of my favorite words) is a Spanish territory that is as close as 115 km from the African coast. There are 7 islands that make up the Canaries, with El Hierro being the smallest. However, the volcanoes in the chain are large, towering from ~1051 meters above sea level to over 3700-meter tall Tenerife. A wide variety of lavas have erupted from Canary Island volcanoes, from your typical basalt like you find in Hawai`i to much stranger compositions like mugearites and phonolites. Most of the young volcanism (less than a few million years old) owes itself to a hotspot that rises underneath the archipelago, much as we find in Hawai`i, Iceland, Reunion Island and other oceanic islands. However, volcanism reaches back as far as 20 million years in the Canary Islands and may partially be the product of a propagation of the South Atlas fault zone (SAF) - but the true origin of the Canary Islands is hotly debated.

The volcanoes of the Canary Islands share many similarities with the volcanoes of Hawai`i. Many have the three-armed rift system layout like Kilauea, producing broad shield volcanoes that can grow very large. The eruption style (at least in historical times) tends to be fissure eruptions of lava flows with rare explosive eruptions when much silicic lavas, like phonolites, erupt.

El Hierro itself is one of the smaller volcanoes in the Canary Islands. There are a number of unconfirmed reports of eruptions over the past few hundred years (including the ambiguous reports of an eruption in 1793), but the last documented eruption of El Hierro occurred ~550 B.C., with another eruption approximately 400 years prior. The island itself is multiple volcanic centers, including the older El Tinor (~1.12 million years old) and El Golfo, which was active from ~545,000 to 176,000 years ago. New basaltic eruptions began around the same time the trachyte-dominated (alkaline) volcanism ended at El Golfo. It is though that the most active part of the Canary hotspot lies under El Hierro (see below), which explains the basaltic magmatism and appears that the highest concentration of young vents and lava flows lie on El Hierro. The island also has three large embayments on its coast, suggesting that large landslides may have come from the collapse of volcanoes on the island.

So, should we be surprised by this seismicity at El Hierro: No. Although not anywhere near as productive as Hawai'i or Iceland, the Canary hotspot is one of the more vigorous on the planet, as the 7 islands can attest. We see almost constant, low-level seismicity under parts of Iceland and Hawai'i due to magma rising underneath the islands from the mantle plume into the crust - and much of this intrusion is occurring in the 9-16 km zone that we see seismicity at El Hierro. Does this seismicity automatically lead to an eruption soon after the earthquakes when we observe them in Hawai'i or Iceland? Not necessarily. These intrusions can be bringing magma into the lower reaches of the magmatic system, but not producing eruptions in the days, weeks or even year timescales. Sometimes, this seismicity might not even lead to an eruption. However, now that we have many of these volcanic systems so closely monitored, we notice this subtle activity as it happens, rather than waiting until we can feel the seismicity at the surface - which usually means an eruption is definitely in the cards.

Does this mean that we should be concerned about an imminent eruption at El Hierro: probably not. This seismicity should remind us that El Hierro is an active volcano and these signals might be the vanguard to eruption in the future. However, without corroborating evidence like deformation of the volcano, increased carbon dioxide or sulfur dioxide emissions or changes in the seismicity (higher magnitude, shallower location), these earthquakes might just means that magma is recharging in the lower depths of El Hierro. As we've seen at Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland, it could be years between a seismic swarm that implies magma recharge and an eruption at the volcano.

However, even with this cautious take on what these earthquakes might mean, it is always a good idea to be prepared, especially when living on a volcanic island like El Hierro. Over 10,000 people live in the island and they should know what to do and where to go if El Hierro does decide to erupt - but remember, most eruptions produce lava flows and minor tephra/ash that are likely not a major threat to people unless you are caught completely unaware. People on Hawai`i have been living with an constantly-erupting volcano for over 30 years, so any activity at El Hierro should be impressive to watch, but not a catastrophe for the residents of the island.

Being a shop owner on a small island means you have to be funny.
Tourists only visit the shops there because they got bored or burnt at the beach
so they expect to be entertained. Right, Randles?
I once owned a boutique in Barbados, 100 meters from the beach,
when my marriage had just broken up and all my clients seemed to be honeymooners.

Hey there Randles,
Am a bit late to the party in this thread, but I have read it all now and as I am about half a mile from the coast on flat low land here in the UK and watching this avidly too now.
Just wanted to wish you much love and thankyou for the information you have bought to us at PA, we are not hearing about this on the mainstream news here.
My gut is telling me it's going to be ok, praying it is for you.
Stay safe, and special :)

An update from the Irish weather site for you:

The Canary Islands Government has raised the alert level for the El Hierro volcano in the Canary Islands (Spain) to ‘Yellow’, the highest alert status since an unprecedented earthquake swarm commenced in mid-July.

Spanish seismologists, accompanied by the President of the Cabildo de El Hierro and the Minister of Security and Emergency Area, held a press conference on Sunday to reassure the 10,000 residents of the smallest of the Canary Islands that the raising of the alert level does not indicate that an eruption is imminent. They indicated, however, that the number of volcanic earthquakes detected beneath El Hierro continues to increase.

Just to 'knock it home' about the Island being under the Instuction of the Protecion Civil...

Here are the poor b#####'#ds in their orange and black uniforms that will be directing and giving out information to the poor unfortunate 10000 plus souls on El Hierro

Just to show you that even the Canarians research HAARP and Masons...
This is their theory of it for these Islands and others....
The pictures speak for themselves....

I hear you !! I REALLY DO !!

But thats NOT THE POINT IS IT ??? What I mean my dear crested-duck friend,...is....THESE ARE BASICALLY THE UNEMPLOYED...IT IS LIKE SENDING ME TO BUILD A HOUSE...I AM NOT A BUILDER,

Or perhaps we should call them the 'dispensibles',,,.,

READ THIS IN FULL ....HERE IS A QUOTE

http://www.juventudrebelde.co.cu/international/2011-06-20/are-the-canary-islands-becoming-the-miami-of-africa

“For several years Juan Verde, a Canary based in the United States, who says he worked as an advisor to the Clinton administration and is now working for Obama’s, has been working in our archipelago. Thanks to his work, we created the US Chamber of Commerce in the Canary Islands, subsidiary of the US Chamber of Commerce in Spain, which is at the same time a subsidiary of the ‘US Chamber of Commerce’ lobby.

“From the beginning, Juan Verde pointed out the strategic role of the Canary Islands as a bridge to West Africa in different magazines. He highlighted not only the commercial benefits, but also that to attract the US investment in the Islands, we would have to authorize, as consideration, the establishment of a NATO base —it is implied that it would be specifically American because there are already two Spanish bases— for “quick interventions” in the continent to counterattack ‘terrorism’.., they promise us that will be like the ‘Miami’ or the ‘Singapore’ of our continent.”

—Do Canary Islands people know about these plans?

—The Canary Islands people know practically nothing about the US plans for the archipelago. Only the upper echelons of the local oligarchy know about it because they see them as a business opportunity.

“Most of the Canary Islands people have been dreaming about being ‘European’, living with their backs turned to our continent. It is understandable: Africa is only seen as a hell of poverty, hunger and suffering, and Europe as the non plus ultra of wealth and wellbeing.

At least most all appear to be still smileing and having a good time. I'm still praying for you all!

Do you remember what i said a couple of pages back about ingredients of the cake.

I think that i did point out that perhaps it is not the eastern seaboard that is at risk...i think that i might have suggested that the largest continent behind our backs ...is a little more ,,shall we say logistical...

It stands for ::::

Don-t know what is happening,,,Don't know what to say,,,confuse 'em with with confusion,..Confusious rules !!!!
Either that or they are fed up with US publishing them and getting it out there....:)

Oh Come on Siesmos Hierro ....sort it out !!!

You have made a misleading graph to enjoy colouring in this afternoon

How is it possible to climb from from 1.0E+11 to 1.1E +11 to....1.1E +11 tooooooooo another 1.1E+11 followed by ..You guessed it...1.2E+11 then..the same....
Give me a break !!

http://www.ign.es/ign/resources/volcanologia/energia_HIERRO.jpg

That's indeed confusing... no idea what these numbers stand for then...

Did you noticed they corrected their graduating scale?

They added a decimal so that, I guess, their graduating scale program would not automatically round the printed number to the next digit.

That's the main page. Click on Philippe for the detailed updates.
Most hurricanes make turns like that but most often they cross the ocean first and then gradually turn.
This one turns far too early going steeply north north east. I think it's too early to add this to your worries.
It's just a storm and will most likely stay just that: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/204128.shtml?table#contents

I've been on Madeira and in the Algarve (Portugal) ... I remember well that the east part of the atlantic ocean is 'cold' water.
The gulf stream (that allegedly isn't working very well) pushes warm water north on the west side which returns as cold water
on the other side following a clockwise path. In order to feed the storm into a hurricane you would need hot water.
So conditions are theoretically not favorable .... however they maybe playing their HAARP :noidea: as you've indicated.

At WHAT point will they bring them to safety ????
At WHAT point will the Gobierno 'lift the lid'
Where are the BOATS...I hope to God they are NOT relying on Fred OLSEN and ARMAS to evacuate 10,000 people,,,.
Once they bring them here to this Island,,,we sit tight and wait....watching the Horizon,,,praying to God for a miracle,,

Well it doesn't improve the seismic situation but at least the Tropical storm Philippe is not going to be one of your worries:

Apparently it listened to how it should behave: travel all the way west first to pick up momentum above warm water and then
turn north north west. I wonder if they could send it across the ocean twice (first west then east) using HAARP.

Stay focused and safe ... :peace:

Still not msm ... but new article:

Island of El Hierro Prepares for Volcanic Eruption

2011-09-26 17:44:43 Xinhua Web Editor: Yihang

The island of El Hierro in the Spanish Canary Islands is bracing itself for a possible volcanic eruption.

Situated in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Africa, the Canary Islands are all volcanic, but there has been no volcanic activity on El Hierro since 1793.

However, a series of small earthquakes have been registered by sensors in the past two months and a quake of grade 3 on the Richter Scale registered last Thursday have caused the threat of volcanic activity to be raised from green to yellow for the first time in recent history.

Saturday produced another stronger tremor of 3.4 on the Richter scale which was felt all over the island.

Speaking to the El Pais newspaper, volcanologist, Juan Carlos Carracedo admitted an eruption on El Hierro would not be a major surprise.

"It is the youngest of the Canary Islands," he explained. "There is a ball of magma which is rising to the surface and it is stationed at the limit of the earth's crust. At the moment we do not know if that ball of magna will break the crust and cause an eruption."

Rather than having one large crater, the volcano on el Hierro consists of around 250 small craters.

"Any eruption would form cones on the high zones of the island and lava flows which would flow to the sea, although they would do so at a speed that would be slow enough for the population to be evacuated. It is something that could happen in days, weeks or months," said Carracedo.

El Hierro currently has a population of around 10,000 and regional government officials have begun informing them of evacuation protocols in case the worst should happen.

The last volcanic eruption in the Canary Islands took place on the island of La Palma in 1971, while the mainland town of Lorca was devastated by an earthquake of 5.2 on the Richter scale in May this year.

The planet is said to be living and growing. Perhaps these Earthquakes are normal for growth but have become noticeable and rough due to the over use of oil in the planet. I think the oil is the natural lubicant for the planets plates to move smoothly. just a thought.

I guess that now you get the idea of what I was talking about when mentioning "Keep an eye on the trend." This one gets to be ... vertical!

Time for peolpe on El Hierro to keep the engines running, ready to go... at the next "jump" from Polly.

The way these updates go are this way:

1) People's feet; instant

2) A jump in the accumulated energy diagram (Polly); 10-20 minutes later

3) Seismograms; 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hour later

4) Listing of the tremors on El Hierro IGN site; 2-3 hours later.

Therefore, unless one is feeling the tremor, the next best warning is the size of the jump of the next green dot at Polly's head since a gap between green dots indicates the "tremor" to be ≥ 3.0

OH Amzer Zo !!!! God Bless You and the way you Think..Thank You for being able to bring some order to the graphs that I post.. Thank You... I am trying to hard to detatch myself from this...give FAIR WARNING ..which I have been Trying to do for the last 4 weeks or so through this and my 6804 thread...
It is hot here. There is no air. There is a misty cloud again tonight. There are Stars. but...Still NO MOON.. I have Not seen the Moon here for over a week. I have walked and walked the village, binoculars in my hand...(I like looking at the sky when walking my doggie), and it is NOT rising over Roque de Jama, and I have Not seen it whilst driving to work either.. Weird...
There is a 'sunset' glow coming from over the mountain beyond, but it is after 10pm..could be the reflection of the lights from the city in the Mist..One morning last week I could not even see where I was driving going to work. I was so disturbed by at all, that I was taking photographs as I was driving. Naughty I know. But I did it all the same.
Today is the first day since I started to watch and follow this in July that I have felt Nervous.

You see the way I see it is this.....
10000 people HAVE to get OFF that Island...NOW..
Our Island here in Tenerife just across the water is ....quiet..ghostly. I took the liberty of checking websites at work tonight, checking how many flights were headed to Tenerife today,,,if there were any delays and how many where airborn..September is always quiet here on this Island. But it is DEAD. There were 3 airborn, 1 Gate was closed and the rest are scheduled flights for tomorrow. I appreciate that there may be more than that, but I just checked a few of the major airline company sites, just to have a nosey in the short amount of free time that I had.
And so... That means that there are Lots of empty Hotels to put the 10000 people in........but then what ???
IF Polly decides to break free tonight or tomorrow then they will come here. Guaranteed. This is the ONLY and nearest Isalnd to Ferry (pardon the pun) people backwards and forwards in the shortest possible space of time. The nearest Port from A to B will be Los Cristianos, I work in the next town. So, for sure I will video it and upload it here.
EVERY BUSINESS HERE also survives on Tourism. Black money is a mainstream income. For Residents, they will manage for maybe a week..and if Polly blows and we get Ash and wind.....Flights are OFF.. then there will be the stranded Tourists plus the 10000 to feed...(kind of reminds me of a Bible story in a quirky kind of way)...We don't grow anything except Bananas...so unless there is a Food Mountain here....we will all have to have milkshake :) Nobody came clean about this and stared it in the face until 19 September, and even now, it is OUT of the MSM,,and within days here on the local newstations it is "in and out" followed by an update on the roadworks... But I am sure that you get my point.
You have been remarkable in your support and ingenuity throughout all of this, and I would like to say Thank You. Openly. It has been a Hell of a Ride.
God willing this will all turn out that I was living in an Alternate Reality all of this time and that it is really just a dream.
Thank You Amzer Zo. It is a pleasure and an honour to call you my friend,

Put the coffee pot and pass it around,
Thank you again, Randles :)

From your reports, it sounds like it's time for these good people to go. Any approximations as to how many people are still left on El Hierro? How are the prevailing winds holding out for you? Are the winds still coming from the NE? Your island is also considering evacuation, right?

What's the news on movement? Have official steps been taken to provide planes, ships, etc... for evac?

randles
27th September 2011, 22:03
NO, none at all.
You see, at first, back in July I was just watching. Then Polly (accumulated energy graph ) and the consistant and persistant chip chip chip of up to 750 each day sometime dropping to 100 or less, then for sure it gained consistancy and persistancy..
And so, I watched the graph. I say Polly getting upset, but he quakes were still chipping away. Thanks to Amzer Zo, he makes sense of the information that I post and puts it into context. Back in July the there was a little bit of chatter about it on the internet, then the chatter STOPPED. CEASED TO BE. HAARP VIDEOS about the Canary Islands were being pulled from You Tube all of the time. None of which belonged to me or were posted by me.
But it kept on going. The quakes kept coming, and the energy was rising.
I flagged it up here on Avalon..this thread only came about seperately when I KNEW FOR SURE..that they were going to face the population with leaflet drops.
But now..in El Hierro it is different. People ARE feeling it. Meetings held with the public are not necessarily in school halls anymore. They are on chairs and benches in the open.
The knock on effect it will have psychologiclly here will be enormous. The BIGGEST FEAR of any Islander here, especially the elders is the Volcano. Some are also nonchalant about it. "that is life" they will say as they shrug their shoulders. When they see those boats arrive bringing anxiety, stress, tears, denial, bodies wracked with emotion...it will go two ways..
either the Churches will be fit to bulging,
or the seed of panic will be watered...ESPECIALLY if they see smoke in the distance and the orange glow in the sky, and then they smell the air, and reach out their hands just to check if Ash is falling from the sky..
So, although it is rather a long answer,

I would agree with you 100 percent. Get them over here where we HAVE the Hotel space. They have to BE somewhere here, ............unless FEMA are thinking of popping over and setting up a camp for them :)
At the moment, the only danger on this Island, and neighbouring Islands, is that TOURISM will grind to a Hotel, and the whole "service industry" which is the cogs and the pistons of these Islands. The danger will come ...from where we least expect it...
Once "she blows" then what...we wait to see if "the distorted side" of the Volcano collapses...we also wait to see if the quakes creep across or God forbid, Pollys energy releases and distributs herself through more than one of the five hundred volcanos on El Hierro. About 300 are sky cokes.
Here in Tenerife we have the third highest Volcano in the world and about 300 sky cones. La Palma last showed her ass in 1971,
so the danger is in certain, on many levels, and from many areas, and for so very many different reasons for the THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS that live on El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife, and to a large extent Gran Canaria. Lanzarote and Furventura enjoy a much greater distance away from us. 287 miles east of here.QUOTE=sygh;319469]Yup, its time to go. Any approximations as to how many people are still left on El Hierro? Are YOU in danger where you are located?[/QUOTE]

The seismic crisis of El Hierro has gone up a notch tonight. The authorities have evacuated about 45 people (the council originally planned 300) and closed the main tunnel of the island, linking the two largest cities. They have done so because the earthquake, more than 8,000 since July 19 over 100 on Tuesday, are only becoming more intense and causes scientists to see more and more likely to be a volcanic eruption.

About ten o'clock at night, the Guardia Civil has begun to advise families of four cores of the municipality of Frontera (south of the island) that they should leave their homes for fear of landslides. The hit came with resignation to the square of the neighborhood. "We caught it right and go to my brother," said Mari Paz resigned.

Curious, nervous residents and tourists have been mixed on the night of El Hierro to hear the news. If at first the neighbors were very little concerned about the succession of earthquakes, this evening many neighbors have anguish in the face. The main artery of the island has been cut. Travel between the two main towns, Valverde to Frontera, will last for 15 minutes at 40 by a mountain road. In addition, 500 students (a third of the island) will not have class on Wednesday.

Yet there are those who believe that everything is an exaggeration. "What is this? If iron sinks because we all sink with it. I've been with goats in these cliffs and I know that does not fall all at once," says Julio Brito Padrón, a man of 83 years, walking shirtless in the warm night, and relying on a cane. His wife, Victoria Quintero, nods when he realized that only left El Hierro to go to the barracks.

The island supports a unique experiment in Spain: the preparation for an eventual volcanic eruption. Scientists at the National Geographic Institute (IGN) tour of the island people to explain what might happen, to calm the people and answer their questions. In addition, Civil Protection of the Canary Islands has developed a device to, at worst, the evacuation of 4,000 people in four hours. He has already contacted shipping companies and airlines that operate in the Canary Islands to use their ships in case of eruption.

The residents of the island are prepared

Most earthquakes have been imperceptible to the 10,000 inhabitants of El Hierro. Of the more than 8,000, only 15 have been felt, but the increasing intensity has raised the alarm. "We can not fight with nature," sums Casañez Arminda Perez, a woman returned to the emigration of Venezuela 40 years ago. Is at the door of his house in the village of Sabina, one of the most affected. Arminda, who wears a medal of Our Lady of Coromoto has hardly noticed the earthquake, but it is informed. He has gone to the talks by scientists from IGN and knows that in case of eruption, go to the town square and should have prepared a bag with essentials. It has not, as most of the respondents, it does not seem to fear that the earth to open beneath his feet. Maite Padrón, director of the Hotel Balneario Pozo de la Salud, has felt the cancellation of visits more than earthquakes.

Evacuations are taking place one step at a rally that began Friday, when the Canaries rose for the first time volcano warning light and put it in amber: pre-emergence. On Tuesday there has been almost a hundred and reaching a magnitude of 3.8. At least on paper everything is ready. "Do not look at all leave the island, but handle different assumptions," says Juan Manuel Santana, Director General of Security and Emergency Canary Islands Government.

IGN has developed several hypotheses about how an eruption can occur and the paths they could follow the lava and ash. "What else is planned is in the Gulf area, which could affect 4,000 people," that "would be evacuated within four hours," said Santana. To do this, be mobilized ships and planes from nearby islands. In addition, staff of 112 in El Hierro has been reinforced and receive materials. If, as happens now, moves to the south "there just is no population" and reduce the number of people affected.

The talks are the villages and busy teaching. On a display, which account for IGN, the Institute of Volcanology of the Canary Islands (non-tip) and Civil Protection of the island explained, even in remote village, to prepare a backpack with water, mobile battery, can opener, a whistle, a handkerchief ... "The mortgage will leave it to burn, 'says the responsibility to remove tension. One hundred residents of San Andrés listen carefully to the instructions. Teachers lead children to the meeting point and the rest should proceed in a number of things. First, it should not be first in line if there comes a tsunami, but also "to be protected from the ashes mouth with a tissue dampened" and avoid "the canyons because they accumulate gases. Before leaving the house, advise, have to cut the gas. As explained, the crisis "has taken a run" although it is unclear how it will end. It's nice to see scientists in a village level by an educational effort.

"Anything can happen"

On the slope of the Gulf, Abella and Itahiza Rafael Dominguez, IGN researchers, control the situation through sensors across the island to notice the movements that are mild and pass on the fly to Madrid. They came here just to note, in mid-July, an unusual move to deploy land mobile network. "Anything can happen," he admits. Everything is calm or the emergence of a rash on the sea and no one will know until the lava affecting the west of the island. But it can also nothing happens in weeks or years. Nobody knows what happens to the magma, located between 12 and 15 kilometers deep. What is not in doubt, say the GPS is that the island "has swelled about four centimeters," according Itahiza. With the rise of magma, the field expands.

Elsewhere on the island, Dácil Nolasco, a researcher at the Institute of Volcanology of the Canary Islands, click on the ground every 500 meters to measure the diffuse flux of CO2, which serves as an indicator of the magmatic activity in the subsoil. Nemesio Perez, non-tip, confirms that the flow of CO2 has risen almost continuously over the last month.

Although from the Volcano Teneguía in 1971, there has been no eruption in the Canary Islands, the population is relatively normal phenomenon. The leaflet handed out to calm the population noted that the archipelago has "similar to Hawaiian volcanism, where people live daily with its active volcanoes" and asks people to "pay no attention to rumors spread alarmist nor" . But the councils have no depth at all. On Tuesday, the earth trembled as the young Border institute received a lecture on how to stay calm in case of earthquakes. The response was not very quiet, as Ruyman Quintero, 16 third-year student and ESO.

People do not have much experience, because since 1739 there is a similar crisis. Then record the tremors stopped the letters which the Mayor of El Hierro sent to the royal Audiencia de Canarias in the ships calling to evacuate the population for the continuous tremors, as documented by the teacher at the University of La Laguna Carmen Romera . It is believed that then, he says, erupting not over, at least there are no historical records, or if there was not very great. Then came to nothing. This time, we'll see."

"EFE | El Hierro | Updated on 27/09/2011 at 22:50 hours

The Canary Islands government has taken this decision to the expectations of the scientific teams indicate that the earthquakes that are shaking the island more than 8,000 since July, the vast majority-are almost imperceptible increase in intensity and frequency from the Midnight but the light volcanic risk level is still yellow and not expected an imminent eruption.

Just this Tuesday in El Hierro have been more than a hundred earthquakes, including 79 with a magnitude of between 2 and 3.8 degrees, so that smaller earthquakes are treated according to the Richter scale, while that from 4 would light strokes.

However, they are the largest observed since the beginning of this phenomenon and, contrary to what was happening so far, eight have been felt by the population.

The evacuation order given for the municipality of La Frontera affects families residing in the neighborhoods of Las Puntas, Pie Risco, Health and Well of Guinea, which will be allocated in the school residence and the headquarters Valverde de La Caldera, says the Government canary in a statement.

Civil Protection services have also decided, as a precaution, close to traffic tunnels Roquille, and suspend the activity in schools in the municipality El Hierro."

The Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Dominica Fernandez tonight has been in contact with the regional government to provide the assistance of the Military Emergency Unit, the State Security Corps and other media available to the Central Administration if they were mobilized.

Closest to msm yet ... news channel from South Africa:

Canary Island prepares for eruption

2011-09-26 21:46

Santa Cruz de Tenerife - Minor earthquakes have been reported on El Hierro, indicating a slim chance that a volcano could erupt on the Spanish Canary Island, an expert said on Monday.

About 8 000 tremors have been registered on El Hierro since July 19, said Maria Jose Blanco, director of the National Geographic Institute on the Canaries.

More than 30 quakes occurred on Monday.

Most of the tremors so far have been too weak to be noticed by residents. The strongest, which registered at a magnitude of 3.4, was felt all over the island on Saturday.

The seismic movements indicated that magmatic material was pressing towards the Earth's surface, Blanco said.

El Hierro has a large volcano and about 250 craters, according to figures quoted by the daily El Pais.

There was only about a 10% likelihood that the seismic movements would lead to a volcanic eruption, Blanco said.

Even in that case, the eruption was expected to occur so slowly that it would leave the authorities time to evacuate residents, El Pais quoted El Hierro security official Maria del Carmen Morales as saying.

The authorities are informing the island's 10 000 residents about the possibility of an eruption and on what to do if that happened.

El Hierro has not seen a volcanic eruption since 1793.

The clustering of tremors in a very small area is most probably the cause for the grid pattern due to rounding up to nearest coordinates.

Check this for comparison at the same scale:

Hi Randles,

I know the Canary Islands attracts a lot of Brits, so a very large number of my fellow countrymen will be aware of the dangers. I found this website after doing a google search for the Volcano... the second video gives a clear indication that this eruption is expected and that the resulting tsunami will have a major impact on the eastern coast of North America, wiping NY out completely. It will also impact on parts of the north African coast as well as the Caribbean and the southern coastline of England.

Good Morning Avalon,

It was a quiet night here. At work on the coast at the moment. I started to park my car OUTSIDE of the underground carpark a couple of weeks ago at home. This morning it would appear that the carpark under my apartment building is now on the street, and the queue for gasoline was quite a wait.

Here is an update from the press this morning..

Translation..http://www.abc.es/agencias/noticia.asp?noticia=940495

"Madrid, 28 sep (EFE) .- Effects of the two emergency response units available to the Emergency Military Unit in the Canary Islands this afternoon will depart from the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife to El Hierro, to collaborate on tasks evacuation of this island to the seismic hazard that exists.

As reported by the Ministry of Defence, the application of this support has been made by the Government of the Canary Islands in order to help their means of emergency evacuation of citizens, given the risk that the population is undergoing seismic movements taking place in the area.

EMU moves to 31 soldiers, four buses and six trucks to a first evacuation of residents to the barracks "Anatolian Source" located in La Caleta.

At the same time, the EMU team that travels to the island provides an officer with the mission to conduct a study for the installation of a camp for 2,000 homeless people. EFE"

"The seismic crisis of El Hierro has gone up a notch tonight. The authorities have evacuated some 53 people (the council originally planned 300) and closed the main tunnel of the island, linking the two largest cities. They have done so because the earthquake, more than 8,000 since July 19 over 100 on Tuesday, are only becoming more intense and causes scientists to see more and more likely to be a volcanic eruption.

At six o'clock, the Canary Islands government has sent a fax asking the Ministry of Defense support of EMU (Emergency Military Unit) for evacuation. At midday, is expected to leave the port of Tenerife a boat with 31 soldiers and 12 vehicles, six trucks, four buses and two off-road. There are also field shelter for 2,000 people, which was another of the Canary Islands government requests. It is also planned that in the first phase of evacuation, the victims go to the headquarters of the Navy Anatolio Source.

About ten o'clock at night, the Guardia Civil has begun to advise families of four cores of the municipality of Frontera (north of the island) that they should leave their homes for fear of landslides. The hit came with resignation to the square of the neighborhood. "We caught it right and go to my brother," said Mari Paz resigned.

The evicted residents come from the neighborhoods of Las Puntas, El Lunchón, corks, Foot Risco, Guinea and has not been necessary to evict any resident of Sabinosa and the Well of Health. 38 have opted to go home to family and friends and 15 to the dorm Valverde.

People do not have much experience, because since 1793 there is a similar crisis. Then record the tremors stopped the letters which the Mayor of El Hierro sent to the royal Audiencia de Canarias in the ships calling to evacuate the population for the continuous tremors, as documented by the teacher at the University of La Laguna Carmen Romero . It is believed that then, he says, erupting not over, at least there are no historical records, or if there was not very great. Then came to nothing. This time, we'll see."

Hi Phoenix10, I think you are confusing El Hierro island with La Palma and its Cumbre Viejo volcano. It's the latter which threatens to drop down in the ocean.

El Hierro, if collapsing at all, will send its wave in the direction of the South Atlantic.

I'd be reluctant to say "will have a major impact" and "wiping out NY completely".

That site that your link goes to, The Truth Behind The Scenes (http://thetruthbehindthescenes.wordpress.com/), looks to me to be a "good site" for "doomer porn", not always distinguishing carefully between what might happen, some day, and what we're pretty sure will happen, soon.

There appears to be a wide range of possible outcomes for the earth changes in the Canary Islands right now, from a "minor burp" to a "major belch", or less, or more.

Randles and the other posters on this thread have been doing a wonderful job of relating what is actually happening in the present.

Keep up the good work, and best to all.

El Hierro stretches after spending one of the worst nights since last July 19, the day the island seismometers to record earthquakes begin steadily.

From 00:02 hours until 05:00 hours on Wednesday, September 28, seismic activity on the island of El Hierro continues its constant motion.

According to data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN) collected by DAILY IRON, the island of El Hierro and keep records in just three hours, 14 earthquakes of between 1.8 and 3.3 magnitude on the Richter scale, and although IGN's web does not specify that it was felt the greatest of these (3.3), the drafting of this newspaper we receive messages from our readers that, indeed, it has been perceived by the population. That is, from 00:02 hours on Wednesday, 28, and are accounted for at least two earthquakes above magnitude 3 and one of 3.0.

After an intense night, and where eventually only 53 people have been evacuated Border (out of 200 that provided for the Canary Islands Government), El Hierro has no regrets damage people or property. A night full of fear and concern, and where if you had to be vacated for years now rain has to do for fear of landslides due to the intense seismic activity.

Just this Tuesday, 27, the island of El Hierro recorded 150 earthquakes of which at least 9 were felt by the population. By a simple calculation shows that the island accounted for only on Tuesday over 6 earthquakes every hour, giving us some idea of increased activity.

According to data published by the ING on its website, the islanders expect movidito Wednesday, as happened on Tuesday.

In turn, this Wednesday, September 28th, there will be no school activity and Border tunnels closed Roquille from 23:00 hours on Tuesday, 27.hasta further notice.

The Canary Islands government wants to send a message of peace and remind people that we are in yellow light, as was established on 23 September, and are not expected an imminent eruption.

Self-protection measures in case of earthquake

If you are inside a building is important

• Do not leave the building until the end of the movement.

• Seek shelter under strong structures.

• Stay away from windows, windows, cabinets, walls and objects that can fall and get hit.

• Do not be in the kitchen.

• Do not use the elevator.

• If the movement is strong, once completed, turn off electricity, water and gas.

In a public building (supermarket, cinema, library, etc):

• Do not run terrified towards the exit.

• Stay away from windows or glass doors.

• Take cover under heavy structures.

• In spaces with shelves (libraries, archives, supermarkets, etc..) Out of the halls where the shelves and bend his knees, with the sides of the shelves.

• At school, have children and students kneel beneath her desk, getting a book on the head.

If the shock is surprised abroad is appropriate:

• Remain calm and make the others observe. Try to control any panic.

• Go to an open area, once away from damaged buildings.

• If there are damaged buildings, not between them.

• If car is traveling slowly stop the vehicle, do not block the road. Turn on the radio for the state authorities and recommendations for any particular roadblocks.

• The authorities shall indicate the protective measures to be taken through the Media and Information Centers Centers Affiliation and Registration.

Try to answer calls for help and collaborate with the intervening, but not go to the affected areas without request to the authorities. Is important to avoid snooping by the disaster areas, that is also dangerous and difficult work of rehabilitation."

We know what happened there yet by the time it reached Hawaii it was little more than a big wave causing very minor damage.

Yes. Let's focus our attention on the islands themselves.

Self-protection measures in case of earthquake

If you are inside a building is important

This reminded me of something I read a while ago, so, here it is (with the the pros and cons):

'Triangle of Life' Earthquake Survival Method
Netlore Archive: Doug Copp's emailed advice on earthquake survival tactics entitled 'Triangle of Life' is disputed by search-and-rescue experts from the American Red Cross and elsewhere.
Description: Email flyer
Circulating since: Aug. 2004 (this version)
Status: Disputed by experts
Example:
Email text contributed by Marc G., Aug. 25, 2004:

EXTRACT FROM DOUG COPP'S ARTICLE ON THE "TRIANGLE OF LIFE", Edited by Larry Linn for MAA Safety Committee brief on 4/13/04.

My name is Doug Copp. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI), the world's most experienced rescue team. The information in this article will save lives in an earthquake.

I have crawled inside 875 collapsed buildings, worked with rescue teams from 60 countries, founded rescue teams in several countries, and I am a member of many rescue teams from many countries. I was the United Nations expert in Disaster Mitigation (UNX051 -UNIENET) for two years. I have worked at every major disaster in the world since 1985, except for simultaneous disasters.

In 1996 we made a film which proved my survival methodology to be correct. The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul, University of Istanbul, Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific test. We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten mannequins did "duck and cover," and ten mannequins I used in my "triangle of life" survival method. After the simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and document the results. The film, in which I practiced my survival techniques under directly observable, scientific conditions, relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck and cover. There would likely have been 100 percent survivability for people using my method of the "triangle of life." This film has been seen by millions of viewers on television in Turkey and the rest of Europe, and it was seen in the USA, Canada and Latin America on the TV program Real TV.

The first building I ever crawled inside of was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under their desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene, unnecessary and I wondered why the children were not in the aisles. I didn't at the time know that the children were told to hide under something.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them. This space is what I call the "triangle of life". The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the "triangles" you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building. They are everywhere. I trained the Fire Department of Trujillo (population 750,000) in how to survive, take care of their families, and to rescue others in earthquakes.
The chief of rescue in the Trujillo Fire Department is a professor at Trujillo University. He accompanied me everywhere. He gave personal testimony: "My name is Roberto Rosales. I am Chief of Rescue in Trujillo. When I was 11 years old, I was trapped inside of a collapsed building. My entrapment occurred during the earthquake of 1972 that killed 70,000 people. I survived in the "triangle of life" that existed next to my brother's motorcycle. My friends who got under the bed and under desks were crushed to death [he gives more details, names, addresses etc.]...I am the living example of the "triangle of life". My dead friends are the example of "duck and cover".
TIPS DOUG COPP PROVIDES:
1) Everyone who simply "ducks and covers" WHEN BUILDINGS COLLAPSE is crushed to death -- Every time, without exception. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are always crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies all naturally often curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. The reason is simple: the wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room, telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens while you are watching television and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Everybody who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. How? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different "moment of frequency" (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads. They are horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by screaming, fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get Near the Outer Walls Of Buildings Or Outside Of Them If Possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked;

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles, says the author. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

Analysis: The American Red Cross took the unusual step of contacting me directly to refute (http://urbanlegends.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www2.bpaonline.org/Emergencyprep/arc%2Don%2Ddoug%2Dcopp.html) the above text, which a representative of the group politely characterized as "incorrect."

According to Red Cross community disaster education manager Rocky Lopes, author Doug Copp's earthquake survival suggestions don't apply in the United States because they're based on observations made in Turkey, where engineering and construction standards are different. "Much research in the United States has confirmed that 'Drop, Cover, and Hold On!' has saved lives in the United States," writes Lopes. "Engineering researchers have demonstrated that very few buildings collapse or 'pancake' in the U.S. as they might do in other countries."
Other experts concur, even to the point of suggesting that some of Copp's advice could endanger people's lives rather than save them. "Some of the things he recommends are absolutely dangerous, like getting out of your car and lying down next to the car," UCLA public health expert Kimberley Shoaf told Knight Ridder Newspapers in November 2004. A former deputy director of the California Office of Emergency Services, Mark Ghilarducci, agreed that "duck, cover and hold on" remains the best overall strategy for survival during an earthquake.

I should also point out that although Mr. Copp has proclaimed himself a disaster expert, his credentials are in question (http://urbanlegends.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.abqjournal.com/terror/197538nm07%2D14%2D04.htm).

What I find somewhat reassuring since following this evolution at El Hierro is that it is very progressive and constant. Although the trend is now subvertical, it grows at an even pace which, to me, indicates that if there is an eruption at all, it should be a lot closer to a Hawaiian type than anything else. That is, no huge explosions but a great number of small ones.

In the hope I am not wrong, I wish you all a smiling sunshiny day!

"We want to convey a message of reassurance to the population of El Hierro because the situation has not changed, said Juan Manuel Santana, for whom the attitude of the islanders citizens" has been exemplary, "he said.

Santana said that with respect to the current situation, "has decided to continue on Wednesday with the closing of tunnels Roquille, evacuees still remain outside their homes and schools remain closed the border to what is decided in A second meeting to be held at 19:30 on Wednesday, 28.

THE EARTHQUAKES ARE PRODUCING IN THE SEA

Also, the director of Security and Emergency of the Canary Islands, Juan Manuel Santana, recalled that in past earthquakes occurring in the sea, "but in any case, he added, occurring on land in the area of El Julan, we know that is an uninhabited area and shall not affect the population, so-nuanced-the risk would be minimal, "he said.

INCREASED ACTIVITY

Juan Manuel Santana, however, did acknowledge that, according to scientists, "there could be an increase in seismic activity, and we're in this activity as we had predicted, so-said-we are in that situation normal within the pre-emergency phase in which we are, it has not changed, "he insisted.

A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT CHANGE

Juan Manuel Santana said during the press conference that for the light to change to red, "would not be due to increase in intensity, but the frequency and depth (closer to the surface), higher values of emission of gases; In short, summed up the general manager, and when scientists would have conclusive data to say with confidence that you can approach an eruptive phenomenon, which right now does not, "he said."

Yes there were MORE than 150 earthquakes yesterday... there was actually 267 Registered. Yesterday was NOT the most amount of Earthquakes that El Hierro received. One day in August she actually Registered 454.
Yesterday, however, 'the hits just kept on coming...getting bigger and harsher, felt on the surface (approximately 8), and in some areas it just....got too much.
The energy is accumulating, and only God knows what Polly (see previous posts) is going to do next.
Yes there were evacuations.

I just the Facts as I come across them and try to stay away from estimates...

My best guess is that IF the MSM are only just joining the Party after TWO MONTHS...they will try and make it as apolyptic as possible.
Stay away from this !!
Calm, breath, relax, stay centred and focused.

I have lived with the Canarian people for 13 years. They are strong and bonded and loving and courageos...they bold well in all extremes. I have great faith that the God that they love so much will hold out it hand and carry them to safety.

The official emergency web page for El Hierro is still down.
It was announced yesterday that the page would be closed today from 2pm GMT for approximately 20 minutes..
The "troops" arrived about the same time with their laptops and unfolding hospitals etc....for the moment...there is very little coming out, and the live stream coverage is little to none.

I am praying that ign.es do not slam the doors closed as well

Take Care,
Randles

Type El Hierro in their OWN search engine....it has NO PREVIOUS posts of watching anything closely..

Yes, you would expect so ... therefore I was surprised that the Dutch article played it down to just 15% chance of eruption.
Although I don't really know what the local situation is a slow and controlled eruption of the volcano may be the right outcome.

Thank you Kate,

This is probably one of the more responsible 'first outs'

Just to make a point though....
"A holiday island popular with Britons","is popular with British tourists looking for quiet sunshine holidays away from the bustle of neighbouring islands like Tenerife and Lanzarote."

El Hierro has 5 Hotels, 2 Rural getaways........................ after 13 years on these Islands, it is rare that ANY British Tourist even knows the name of the Islands poking out from the sea...the main question of curiosity has always been " what is that Island called that will wipe out America "
El Hierro is popular with British Residents here ..for Diving, Diving, Diving, or sneaky week away...

I guess that the highlighted statements that I choose to paste are the Newspapers way of 'cushioning the blow' on the Impact of Tourism.... Point is... Everybody knows that the Hawaiian Islands are Active. Britons book Holidays every year, and indeed book a Helicopter Excursion over the Activity...
Now, Imagine the average Briton saying .... "shall we go for a bit of sunshine and lava to El Hierro again this year love" ??...and yes, I am smiling too. After all, the average Briton can't pick up 'Eastenders' or 'X Factor' on the television in El Hierro.
These Islands have a GERMAN influence. Residential, Historical and Literal.

At the moment I am, just, like you, watching the MSM start to Publish,, The majority are bringing the "Doom" scenario of La Palma and the 'dreaded' word "Tsunami" into the equation.

Lets just watch and wait, just as we have been doing here on Avalon since before the event unfolded.
First things Fiirst..
Please keep sending Your Love and Light to these Islands. It is still needed.

Enjoy the MSM by all means. But read inbetween the lines. Don't become part of the Rumour Therapy Department, .. Research it yourself with facts. Cross Reference what you can. And Accept that there are some things that really are NOT as they seem.

15% huh ?
For the last 2 months there has been 0% interest in this by ANY MSM
They lid of "lips are zipped" is now officially OFF the Pressure Cooker of the fiow of information. The cat is out of the bag; so to speak.
I applaud the article. I do. Responsible Journalism and the Guidlines that it imposes can only be drawn from the sites that we have become so accustomed to looking at for some time here. Even when I scan the articles, I don't look at the graphs and charts etc., as we all see them here each day,..But to the mainstream listener this will come as a bit of a shock.
There is a 15% chance quoted of an eruption...what percentage chance would you now give the Islands if you were Joe Public looking to book a holiday here ?
But it begs the question 15% of what..100:1 5o:50,,,,,,,,, if you get what I mean,

"RTVE.es / AGENCIES 28.09.2011 - 19:06 h

The Canary Islands authorities have once again made a call for calm to the population of El Hierro, after the recent earthquakes detected in this volcanic island.

Insular President Paulino Rivero stated that the situation is of "utmost calm." Has moved there this afternoon the defense minister, Carme Chacon to oversee the next few hours the deployment of the Emergency Military Unit that landed about four o'clock this afternoon in the Iron to support effective Civil Protection any contingency.

The minister and the president have met canary for several minutes with the scientific committee that analyzes seismic movements are recorded on the island since mid-July and are now more than 8,000.

Most of these small earthquakes have been invisible to the population, but increased intensity and frequency on Tuesday forced the evacuation of half a hundred people living in the north of the island and are particularly vulnerable to landslides.

Paulino Rivero, pointed out further that the eruption of La Palma Teneguía, which occurred in 1971, far from being a negative factor, became a stimulus for tourism and scientific visits.

Rivero was speaking after reaching the island, where he will meet with President of the Cabildo, Alpidio Armas, the defense minister, Carme Chacon, and the Chief of Defense, Jose Julio Rodriguez, who also found in the Hierro to oversee the deployment of the Military Emergency Unit.
Similar to the eruption of 71 benign

The president told reporters canary in the event that will culminate in earthquakes volcanic eruptions, scientific forecasts predict a phenomenon similar to the Teneguía and so he said, the situation is "maximum quiet" on the island.

Rivero said that the scientific equipment which has been advanced since the last eruption occurred in the Canary Islands and that was the example cited Teneguía and that are installed 14 seismographs and the information obtained from them can take decisions based on scientific advice.

Canary Executive President insisted that El Hierro is a situation of maximum normal and said that this situation will continue in the coming days.

Regarding the deployment of security forces in the island, the president argued that canary can not act with improvisation because technically it is possible that culminate in an eruption earthquakes as Teneguía benign.
It is not planned a mass evacuation

Despite this forecast, he said, authorities can not be trusted and therefore is expected to mobilize all forces without need to create alarm.

Rivero, who recalled the volcanic origin of the Canary Islands, stressed that there is planned a mass evacuation and praised "the extraordinary civility of the citizens of El Hierro".

He reiterated that the deployment of troops is covered "since we have to sit with a sandwich and a beer to view a benign rash until we have to mobilize."

He reminded that since 2009, Canary has a prevention plan volcanic risk."

Guys, have another look at Quakewatch. I wrote a post previously about the quakes all being lined up!! My daughter and I compared other sites round the world where there have been multiple earthquakes. Christchurch for one and also Porta Rico. These places also experience daily quakes. Not as many as the Canaries, but still, many earthquakes. Non of these other places show earthquakes in lines like they do in the Canary Islands!!! Its still odd to me. Amzer So, your explanation seemed quite feasible, but when comparing the Canaries with other places round the world, the lineups of earthquakes seem to be only in the Canaries.

Carmen - there was an instance lately on the swarms of EQ's on the Czech/German border where they were aligned. They also had over 1000 quakes in a highly unusual place. Explanation was that they were so close together the machine just adjusted their positioning! Well I checked that and they were definitely linear, and not always close together... how 'odd'!

SEISMIC CRISIS

Accustomed to the calamities
The inhabitants of El Hierro are taken with serenity and resignation seismic crisis and ask what they have to make it happen''and''.

SERGIO GUTIERREZ, DiarioElHierro.es, Valverde (29.09.2011. 7:45 pm)

The uncertainty has been installed on the inhabitants of the island of El Hierro, on the one hand, we are bombarded with calls for calm and, on the other hand, observe how the island has the largest military deployment and health history.

"What has to happen, it is now and that nothing happens" is the thinking of many of the inhabitants of El Hierro, weary of so much fear and uncertainty. "It's difficult to live with so much shaking in my home," confesses DAILY IRON a resident of El Golfo. "I have fear, but we always say that nothing happens and it's normal," says one resident of the municipality of El Pinar. "What I want is that this is over now, and if you have to explode the volcano to do already and that nothing will happen," a fisherman sentence of La Restinga.

The Iron Soldiers take a possible event within preventive protocols if, finally, the dreaded magma, the same that created the island for just over a million years, it occurs out destroying the eternal stillness of the Sea Las Calmas, or El Julan, where sits the Tagoror, Bimbache Monument where the ancient inhabitants of the island gathered in the light of the moon.

And is that the iron has already suffered evictions, destruction, agony, tears and despair. We have been hit by terrible fires, heavy flooding, evacuations and where it was feared for a moment, first the flames scorched the quiet village of El Pinar (the two major fires that have ravaged the place), and the other that waters feared belongings ended up with the inhabitants of this town, where earthquakes shake today.

And more of the same border. Their peaceful inhabitants, always fearing the shadow of the cliff that surrounds it, has also suffered calamities hard to forget. The latest floods remain unchanged in the minds of its inhabitants, where there was significant damage to homes, farms and roads. Losses that amounted to millions of euros.

Maybe that's why, when the islanders are told of "evacuation" will sound as "family". Now these towns, which must be added, La Restinga, and landscapes of the sea of calm, and the Julan, are being shaken and nobody knows what will happen tomorrow.

However, the inhabitants of the peaceful island of El Hierro continue their daily work, without remedy, and hope that eventually the volcano that has begun to stir, forget the island for now and go back to sleep, to least 300 years."

Amzer So, your explanation seemed quite feasible, but when comparing the Canaries with other places round the world, the lineups of earthquakes seem to be only in the Canaries.

What's happening with the display of the earthquake positions for El Hierro is that they are so close to each other that the programs they (Google, Quakewatch, RSOE EDIS, etc...) use for displaying these positions are not accurate enough.

Therefore they round up the coordinates to the next higher order decimal available. The problem resides with the zoom capabilities of the program they use, it doesn't go beyond a fixed amount and they adjusted the coordinates computation and display to that maximum zooming.

That doesn't mean the EQs themselves are occurring on a grid pattern. To verify, this check the positioning of the EQs here: http://www.01.ign.es/ign/resources/volcanologia/HIERRO.html, there are 8000+ EQs concentrated within a 0.10 x 0.10 square...

No grid pattern there, as their plotting program is far more accurate, down a few more decimals than on Google Earth and the likes.

You can go to this page: http://www.01.ign.es/ign/layoutIn/volcaListadoTerremotos.do?zona=2&cantidad_dias=10 and try to plot the Longitudes and Latitudes given on a diagram and see for yourself for fun...:p

Good observation otherwise. :thumb:

PS: These are real earthquakes (check above diagrams) delineating the progression of a real magma chamber over a known hotspot/plume.

Gradually the Canary Island of El Hierro calm down. On Thursday, the schools have resumed their normal activity and 500 schools in the municipality of Frontera have returned to class, in view of recent scientific reports indicate that the scale of earthquakes seems to have slowed and entered a stationary phase.

However, it remains closed to traffic, risk of landslides, the tunnel that connects the island's capital, Valverde, to the valley of the Gulf (north), the most affected by earthquakes, as reported by the director general Security and Emergency of the Canarian Government, Juan Manuel Santana.

This required to change school bus routes, so that children in the municipality of Frontera Valverde studying in his school reach across the top of the island.

The half a hundred people on Tuesday were evicted from their homes in the town of Frontera spend another night outside their homes (most are staying with family and only a dozen remain in the dorm Valverde), but this Thursday will review your situation and decide whether they can return.
8000 earthquakes since July

This was noted by the President of the Cabildo, Alpidio Armas, who has stressed that the islanders will have to learn to live with the situation presented in El Hierro from mid-July, a period in which the island has been rocked by more than 8,000 low-intensity earthquakes of volcanic origin, most imperceptible.

"This is a topic that we will have to learn to live, if not stopped. We're going to have to integrate into our lives, peace and responsibility," added Armas.

The chairman of the council has insisted the message of tranquility that all authorities have been saying for days and stressed that the scientific reports indicate that the situation appears to have entered a stationary phase.

In the same vein, Santana pointed out that such events are cyclical seismic events caused by the pressure of magma in the subsurface, so that "fall within the normal." In fact, the volcanic risk in light of El Hierro is still located in yellow, in a situation of "pre-alert."

The Director General of Security of the Canarian Government has also explained that the latest information available indicates that the focus of the earthquake is shifting to the south of the island.
Effective deployment of the EMU

Insular President Paulino Rivero stated that the situation is of "utmost calm." Has traveled there on Wednesday the Minister for Defence, Carme Chacon to oversee the next few hours the deployment of the Emergency Military Unit that landed about four this afternoon at the Iron to support effective civil protection to any contingency .

The minister and the president have met canary for several minutes with the scientific committee that analyzes seismic movements are recorded on the island since mid-July and are now more than 8,000.

Most of these small earthquakes have been invisible to the population, but increased intensity and frequency on Tuesday forced the evacuation of half a hundred people living in the north of the island and are"

"The underground self-help housing''endangered''in El Hierro, warns an expert
The architect admitted that there is an excess of controls so that the 'legal' does not have great problems to moderate earthquakes
Decrease letter letraAumenta

EUROPA PRESS, S / C Tenerife (29/09/2011)

The houses and buildings of self and illegal on the island of El Hierro are the greatest danger to the seismic risk, has admitted the architect Joaquin Galera, who has also admitted that current legislation is sufficient to avoid problems in these phenomena, "but you have to fulfill."

The architect explained Joaquin Galera told Europa Press that the Canary Islands in recent years there has been a culture of "self" especially from the 60's of last century and has been allowed in a "shameless" for Government, councils and municipalities. Here he said that there were moments where 60 percent of buildings in the archipelago were self.

With respect to the island of El Hierro yellow light that stays in earthquake-volcanic risk, said that there are many buildings of this type, ie, made without this project and has added the problem that governments have proceeded to legalize it. "If something happens it will be a ballot for the government," he said.

Galera described it is fundamentally built home on weekends with the help of family or anyone who knows anything about construction. "These are the ones mostly at risk, in most cases have no pillars or foundations are built with inadequate or poor quality materials," he said to admit that there may be some that are well built.

In relation to other houses that have followed the said compliance will not have major problems as the rules and licensing includes seismic risk. "They do not have to spend anything if the intensity is moderate," he explained to repeat it does not say that the "underground" they are going to fall, but they are the most likely to suffer problems.

This problem Galera added that the islands are pending. He said the houses built on cliffs or in the vicinity of the sea. "There has been no building control and that there are problems with waves and rocks that fall," has been exposed to conclude that there is often admit that "God is great!" to the fact that for what might happen just happen incidents.

The architect has stressed that "there is too much control" when it comes to construction. "Everything," he said to remember that the first step is to have a professional do a project taking into account all applicable laws.

After the document is sent to the College of Architects to issue a favorable visa and then reaches the City Council and the technical office, which also check that "everything is in order." Finally when there is so licensed.

Galera said that with these controls is "very difficult" for a moderate earthquake could damage consideration, but the appearance of a crack as sometimes happens during the first year the building until the end to settle. Contrasted the homes here are kept "a miracle" because they have no structure or pillars. "In general the absence of control are the most exposed," he concluded."

It's getting out there little by little.... when I go get mice for our snakes I will get a nice big one for polly... nice big meal then a long rest.... looong rest lol

With the info in red I cannot even load the page much less run the translator... maybe time to scan and reboot. What is the rest of this sentence randles, produce a 99% what? (I don't want to insert my assumptions... we all know what happens when one assumes lol) The translated info is much appreciated and I realize that it isn't always translated the way it is meant in the original language lol...

Scientists believe that in the next few hours can produce a 99%

Measurements and forecasts made by scientists on the island of El Hierro and the whole structure of IGN have pointed to the competent authorities within the Pevolca activated by the Canarian Government to the volcanic eruption is expected for several days can occur in next few hours at a point in the sea to twelve miles off the coast southwest of the island, which correspond to the town of Frontera.

The odds set by these scientists have risen to 99%, giving the reason Carracedo, which set the deadline for its experience and professional expertise long before any of that until now have come to the public.

In order not to alarm the population is deciding when to make public a statement giving an account of this incident, but was ordered by radio high alert all operators to be prepared, especially in the EMU and its device that includes a shelter for 2,000 people, if it is considered that the entire population evacuated.

"SEISMIC CRISIS SPECIAL - 29/09/2011 (18:47 pm)

The situation remains''stationary''and some residents return home
The tunnel Roquille closed until further notice because of the risk of landslides.
Earthquakes move to the sea in the south of the island.

SERGIO GUTIERREZ, DiarioElHierro.es (09.29.2011. 18:47 pm)

The situation on the island of El Hierro is normalized and the neighbors Valverde relocated back to their homes, but the tunnels remain closed Roquille traffic. This is just to convey the Director General of Security and Emergency of the Canary Islands, Juan Santana, who appeared before the media at the headquarters of El Hierro Ceoci of the capital, accompanied by the President of the Cabildo de El Hierro, Alpidio Arms, and Minister of Security and Emergency insular, Maria del Carmen Morales.

Santana explained that the 36 residents displaced from the Lunchón, corks and Race Street in the Valley of the Gulf, will return home this Thursday. However, the general manager qualified that Risco Pie neighbors, Guinea and some of the tips, will still have to relocate, "because conditions are not so they can return to their homes," he said.

MOVING THE SEA EARTHQUAKES OF CALM

In developing the seismic event, Santana said, "is still maintained under the same conditions and the recent earthquakes have been developed senses all in the south, in the Sea of Calm, bringing peace to the people he said since it is a much lower risk area, "assured the CEO.

Santana had an impact, in this context that the focus of the earthquake "is moving toward the south" and again transmitted a message of calm and normality for all the islanders, "settled.

Juan Santana stressed also that the tunnel remains closed as a precautionary measure "because of the risk of landslides due to earthquakes, not by any eruptive process," he said.

THE SITUATION OF EARTHQUAKES "MORE OR LESS EQUAL"

On the situation of earthquakes produced today and perceived by the population El Hierro, Juan Santana explained that the situation "remains more or less the same as yesterday (Wednesday), there are some that have been felt, this afternoon, for example, have produced a pair of felt earthquakes in the area of El Julan and the Gulf, "he said.

Santana also explained that there have been landslides in El Julan, and urged caution when approaching hills.

Finally, the Director General of Security and Emergency said, given the possibility of occurrence of earthquakes of greater magnitude, that "at present we can not rule anything out, we must be prudent, and scientists tell us is that there is no certainty, we always talking about probabilities, "he said.

However, Juan Santana said that if earthquakes are on the same line, "obviously it's going to happen is a reduction in the risk and intensity."[/I][/B]

"RTVE.es / EFE 29.09.2011 - 20:22 h

The focus of volcanic earthquakes recorded on El Hierro has shifted in the last hours to the Sea of Calm, south of the island, which will allow them to return to their homes most of the residents of La Frontera who were evacuated on Tuesday from their homes.

The Director General of Security and Emergency Canarian Government, Juan Manuel Santana, announced Thursday afternoon that following this crisis committee has decided to allow 36 of those 53 people to return to their homes, considering that it has disappeared the risk of landslides that threatened their homes.

In particular, they may return home on Thursday the inhabitants of those homes were evacuated in the neighborhoods of the corks, Luchon and Race streets, all in La Frontera.

In contrast, the preventive measure for maintaining houses in areas at risk in Pie del Risco, Guinea and ends.
Quakes continue

This decision was taken in view of the seismic focus seems to have moved further south into areas where the movements caused by volcanic activity in the subsurface are not dangerous to people, though citizens continue to feel tremor with some regularity.

In fact, this Thursday has been back in El Hierro dozens of earthquakes, all with a magnitude less than the maximum detected so far in this episode (3.8 degrees on the Richter scale).

Some have felt with particular intensity in the early afternoon in the towns of La Frontera and La Restinga, as journalists have told residents of both cores. "It's something we'll have to get used to," he insisted Thursday the president of the Cabildo El Hierro, Alpidio Armas, who emphasizes that all scientific data suggest that the probability of an eruption occurring remains low.

In this sense, Santana and Firearms have pointed out that the hypothesis with which it works now is that, if there is a rash, this could be underwater, located in the vicinity of what is now the focus of the earthquakes.

The authorities have also decided on Thursday afternoon that the tunnel that connects with La Frontera Valverde, in a particularly steep rocky area, remains closed to traffic as a precaution.

To strengthen the scientific monitoring being conducted of all these earthquakes in El Hierro, the National Geological Survey plans to move new equipment to the island, which will be located in the Julan and La Restinga, in the south."

It insists on the recommendations

The Canary Islands government insists on the recommendations by seismic risk, because even decrease the magnitude of the intensity of events can make them more noticeable by the population.

SELF-PROTECTION MEASURES IN CASE OF EARTHQUAKE

If you are inside a building is important

Do not leave the building until the end of the movement.
· Seek shelter under strong structures.
• Maintain away from windows, windows, cabinets, walls and objects that can fall and get hit.
Do not be in the kitchen.
Do not use the elevator.
• If the movement is strong, once completed, turn off electricity, water and gas.

In a public building (supermarket, cinema, library, etc):

Do not run terrified towards the exit.
· Stay away from windows or glass doors.
• Protect under strong structures.
• In spaces with shelves (libraries, archives, supermarkets, etc..) Out of the halls where the shelves and bend his knees, with the sides of the shelves.
• In the school have the children kneel and students under his desk, putting a book on the head.

If the shock is surprised abroad is convenient

· Keep calm and make the others observe. Try to control any panic.
• Go to an open area, once away from damaged buildings.
• If any damaged buildings, not between them
• If car is traveling slowly stop the vehicle, do not block the road. Turn on the radio for the state authorities and recommendations for any particular roadblocks.
· The authorities shall indicate the protective measures taken through the Media and Information Centers Centers Affiliation and Registration.

Try to answer calls for help and collaborate with the intervening, but not go to the affected areas without request to the authorities. Is important to avoid snooping by the disaster areas, that is also dangerous and difficult work of rehabilitation.

Evolution of the earthquake

According to figures released by the volcano monitoring network, monitoring 24 hours, the National Geographic Institute, during the day yesterday, September 28, were recorded on the island of El Hierro nine felt earthquakes, of which four of them reached a magnitude greater than or equal to 3.0 on the Richter scale.

In fact yesterday, amounting to 31 events during the week senses 22 to 28 September 1084 being the total number of earthquakes located in these seven days.

In addition, from 17 July to 28 September, the National Geographic Institute has recorded 8613 earthquakes, with epicenters both north and south of the NW ridge and depths between 10 and 14 km. The number of events felt by the population is 36, with intensities II, III and IV in the MSK scale The magnitude greater than this number reached a value of 3.7 on the Richter scale. This phenomenon is accompanied by seismic surface deformations, which so far have reached 35 mm "

Hi randles. Hope you are well. Thanks for the updates.

In the school have the children kneel and students under his desk,

I would not follow this bit of advice. Think about how voids are created in collapsed structures. If a wall or roof comes down empty gaps will be in the space between the furniture/objects. Anything on or under this stuff will be squished. If it comes to this the best place is just next to it not under it.

Best wishes :)

Basially it took off my glasses of what to do.. Lie at the side of the bed - Not under it-- Get out of the are and curl up next to it...etc., it made for some interesting reading. And the past couple of nights when I have rewalked my way to the reunion point I have made with my daughter, I have look at the route in a whole new different light.
Thank You, Thanks to all of You :)

Okay then guys !!
look lively and listen up.. these are my Own Thoughts, so far,..

Over the last two days or so, the Internet has started to come alive, and the MSM to a smaller extent, as to the events that We cover freely. Openly, with dignity and lots and lots of love and light...and facing the damn thing ...errrr sorry Polly,,, head on, whilst keeping our heads firmly on our shoulders, and Never forgetting that we do it with Love and a sense of sharing and giving,

Tonight I had to sit and have a really good think.
This thread is receiving alot of attention...horrendously so from Non Members. To date, it has had over 17000 hits. Thats alot.
Today I had to think about the FACTS that we post, and the many many possibilities and unwanted doors that this will open, that information retreived from here may become twisted and distorted elsewhere. I had to think about the url'S that I post to support my findings from Government suported agencies.... it may either 'cut out the public', ......and then we would hear nothing,, or worse, their servers would become overloaded with the hits and that would Deny people that Really needed the information, the luxury of obtaining this.
I almost felt aware that we were being watched as to where this thread may go.

I flagged my concerns up with a Moderator. And after looking at myself hard and long in the mirror, I am going to continue to take the leap of faith, I am going to continue to post the Facts. Updates, and sometimes, post up other URL's that I use in the hope that we can continue to educate ourselves and Grow. There may be a good many of these Non Members peering at us that may be on the beginnings of questioning the World in which we live, and I hope that by showing them that Avalon is a place for :) us crazies :), where we have a place to express ourselves without being branded :) normal :) and I hope that this will give them the strength and the courage to 'come forward'.
As for the snoopers and snitchers....Hello !! Welcome to Avalon :)

Welcome to our World :) And hold on tight... Your inner strength will amaze You :)

The caveat is that "common" sense needs to be applied: If it's a crumbling brick wall that threatens to fall on one, duck under a desk; if it's a concrete slab, the triangle of life is one's best bet.

For example, in my post # 401, the Red Cross mentions something about staying in one's car, whereas all the people that stay in their car under that falling highway... got crushed. And if one gets into such a situation when in a car, the best bet is to curl next to the engine side unless one is on one's way to the recycle dump with a few tons a newspapers in the trunk...

Accordingly, one wonders what's the Red Cross real agenda? Especially after the AIDS tainted blood scandal (some people went very far down the trail of intentionality towards native communities)... is it minimum or maximum casualties?

Also found it very interesting that mention of buildings built in the US "don't usually pancake" ... 9-11 anyone?

Therefore, one needs to pay attention to what kind of environment one lives in, works in, travels on/under, etc... as you (randles) are doing currently.

I used this source.
http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index2.php

Hi Bryn, RSOE EDIS is good only for approximate positions and values.

However, its display can also be misleading as noticed by Carmen and her daughter (grid pattern due to insufficient accuracy).

Another example is found on your posted screen shot, that is, the EQs displayed off the coast of the northern part of the island:

10156 10157

When one goes to the IGN listings (http://www.01.ign.es/ign/layoutIn/volcaListadoTerremotos.do?zona=2&cantidad_dias=10); first, the 3.9 cannot be found anywhere at the time and date indicated and, second, if the 3.5 can be found timewise, its coordinates do not match with the position shown on the display:

10158

Check the coordinates given by IGN with the grid provided below for the EQs location:

http://www.02.ign.es/ign/resources/volcanologia/Eventos_HIERRO_2011.jpg

All four displayed EQs on RSOE EDIS fall within the IGN EQ cluster.

... something's off with RSOE EDIS data acquisition and plotting programs.

Otherwise, it's one of the best visual tool available for current events.

Good Morning Avalon !!

Whilst the coffee pot works its magic, here is the latest from Diario El Hierro

This is the audio of consejera de Seguridad y Emergencias del Cabildo de El Hierro, María del Carmen Morales.

REASSURE COUNSELOR

The''less is the volcano, the concern is a detachment or collapse''
The Minister of Safety and Emergency Cabildo de El Hierro, Maria del Carmen Morales, sends a message to the people quiet while warning that''we may have to get used to living with shaking under our feet, which is what living in volcanic soils plays.''

SERGIO GUTIERREZ, DiarioElHierro.es (30.09.2011. 6:20 pm)

The Minister of Safety and Emergency Cabildo de El Hierro, Maria del Carmen Morales, recalled on Thursday that "we live in volcanic soils and as such, as such, El Hierro is a living island, a volcanic island like the rest of the Canary Islands" he said.

According to Morales, "is not usual to move the earth beneath our feet, but maybe we'll have to learn to live with that feeling," said

To Maria del Carmen Morales, "not important right now is the volcano, the concern is the damage that could cause these earthquakes that they feel are being continued, but the damage right now are in a detached hill, a stone or a collapse, "he said.

Morales already warned on 26 September at a press conference in the hall of the Cabildo El Hierro. Then, the minister noted that "we must be prepared, because these days you can continue the seismic activity around the magnitudes that have occurred so far and even a little older"
