An amateur astronomer in Paris has captured footage of the UARS climate satellite due to return to Earth sometime this weekend. While NASA expects most of the craft to burn up before reaching Earth, the space agency does suspect that over two dozen larger pieces could hit the planet. Chillingly, NASA says that they will not know where the pieces will land until approximately two hours before impact. More on the story at BBC News.

There are quite a few sites out there now saying that it will most likely miss North America. Here is one of them....

HA! Lucky North America, then! The news here has done nothing all day but state that it will fall in Northeastern Italy! :twitch:

I have been giving the heads-up on this free falling space junk news for some time as it can be noted in my numerous posts here on the forum. Here are a couple:

I do hope it does no harm.

Sat, 24 Sep 2011 01:30:46 AM GMT+0200

As of 7 p.m. EDT on Sept. 23, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 90 miles by 95 miles (145 km by 150 km). Re-entry is expected between 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and 3 a.m., Sept. 24, Eastern Daylight Time (3 a.m. to 7 a.m. GMT). During that time period, the satellite will be passing over Canada, Africa and Australia, as well as vast areas of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans. The risk to public safety is very remote.

Yeah but only a very thin coating on certain components AFAIK, which would be well and truly gone by the time it gets through the atmosphere and hits the Earth.
I would be more worried if it has a Nuclear power supply aboard??

Yep, I think there's Uranium aboard. Heavy metal, so won't burn up easily as well.

NASA satellite meets its fiery doom over Pacific Ocean
Six-ton UARS spacecraft is gone; experts can't pinpoint exact location

After days of worldwide suspense, NASA declared Saturday that its six-ton Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite came apart during a fiery fall over the Pacific Ocean.

The space agency said the decommissioned spacecraft fell back to Earth between 11:23 p.m. ET Friday and 1:09 a.m. ET Saturday. NASA spokesman Bob Jacobs said the Joint Space Operations Center, headquartered at California's Vandenberg Air Force Base, reported that the satellite entered the atmosphere over the Pacific.

"Precise time and locale aren't yet known," he added in a Twitter update....

If this thing is what they say it it which i doubt then why bring it back to earth where it could hit someone.

There is a vast amount of space and they have controlled this to come back into the earths atmosphere. Could they have been ordered to bring it back to earth by the galatic federation. Why not control it to go into deep space.

My opinion i dont believe a word nasa says.Over 40 years they have lied to us so i do not believe this event.

I am starting to believe and i know my mind runs away with me at times but i think nasa are not welcome or there crap in space anymore xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
