Has anyone ever given thought to what the lyrics to N.E.R.D (Noone Ever Really Dies) track Rockstar. (Produced by the Neptunes). I was listening to it earlier and thought to myself that there has to be something more here.

You think that you don't have to ever quit
You think that you can get away with it
You think the light won't be ever lit
It's almost over now
Almost over now

Light being lit? Lucifer? Lights in the sky? I get the feeling that he's referring to a fuse rigged to an explosive but check the rest of the lyrics

Something's on your chest
Better get it off
There'll be no one left when we set it off

Say something before what is set what off?

You had plenty of time
There was no rush
But it was your dream to be like us
You're in dreamland so you don't care
And as you wait im standing there
we're standing there

Tower of Babel? UFO cover up since the 40's? Men wanting to be Gods?

You don't succeed cause you hesitate
You think we're fly
But we levitate

I personally love this line. And yeah, secret craft don't fly, they levitate. There are also rumours that levitation is how many megalithic and monolithic strutures may have been erected.

I get the same feeling from this song when I listen to take thats "the flood" and here the line:

Here we come now, on a dark star,
Seeing demons, thats no what we are.

All very odd to me.

Rap metaphors are common. They can be linked to anything you want. But for the most part they are metaphors for general issues of confrontation and confidence.

I like this single also. Sounds great on Bose speakers.

You're looking too hard - it doesn't mean anything most likely...It's all too easy to connect dots that shouldn't be connected.

As a writer, lyracist and poet, all words mean something.
Listen to the whole song along with the delivery, there's some hidden metaphors going on at the very least.

Could be Couldn't be the meanings pointed out. Still shows you have a good process in abstract thinking. Which is probably why you enjoy the written word.

Peace :)

Tell that to Noel who wrote 'hindu times' and has openly stated that it is a song about nothing. I might mean something, yes, but probably not anything that you suspect it to be. But who knows - either of us could be right or wrong.
