tonight in scotland we have the first clear skied night i can remember for a long while.
I was at my brothers and sat outside (summer heat today) and we watched the stars pop out.
So I decided to look for the moon but was reassured that it was still too early, fair enough.
So it is now 22;43 here and the moon still has not put in an appearance.
It is still a very clear sky.
Am I too early as was suggested?
Can anyone tell me what direction i should be watching.

Trojan,
The moon is a thin crescent currently, so you may have trouble spotting it.
Here's a link to tell you the current moon phase:
http://www.calculatorcat.com/moon_phases/phasenow.php

Here's an article that explains how to track the moon (and other celestial bodies) across the sky:
http://www.online-tech-tips.com/fun-stuff/how-to-track-the-moons-path-position-across-the-sky-in-real-time/

Here's is Sky and Telescope's weeky Sky At A Glance feature:
http://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/ataglance

Hope this helps!
All love,
Marianne

The One, it's so skinny it's hard to see -- it's only 3% showing. We're just coming out of the dark moon phase, and now the light will be building and you'll see more of it each day. It's a 28 day cycle.
:) (I wish we had a little howling-at-the-moon icon!)
All love,

I would dispute that you could even see 3%, 27th September was the new moon, so it isn't visible, at all.

As far as in relation to where I am right now, the moon is too close to the sun to see at night. Check out Stellarium.

Maybe they went into hiding, too, like Obama and the rest of them.... :becky:

Is it really possible that someone lives for 48 years on this planet without hearing about moon-phases?

Did you live in a bunker all your life?

Or is your post meant as a provocation?
(Something like: The moon has desappeared, this must be a conspiracy...)

Yup, its just the phase. A lovely time to watch the stars, the wife and I have been out several times this week to gaze since there hasn't been many clouds here. I have an app for it on my phone as I am trying to test out a theory of fishing and moon phases, but it's not working out as much as I hoped lol.

I've been a skywatcher most of my life, so when I see something out of the ordinary, I begin to wonder why....What I saw a month ago with the moon surprised me. The clouds were moving BEHIND it. So, I don't know what's going on anymore than anyone else.... Lately, we've gotten heavy cloud covering in my area; so, it's not easy to tell what's going on above them. Is this intentional? Maybe. We already know that chemtrails make more clouds....
Is it hard to imagine that the moon disappeared? Or that the phases are out-of-wack? Lots of people are skywatchers with their own telescopes and equipment. Would you doubt them? They have nothing to gain from sharing their observations...

IMO just from my own observations, there are things going on with the Earth, the Sun AND the Moon....I'm sure that you'll agree that we're not being told about any of it.
BTW many things started as conspiracies, only to be proven as truth later on....

It's a new moon, we won't see it.

Last summer I saw the moon on an August night while it was full at 100%. The moon was easily at least four times the size it usually is. It was massive. I don't know enough about the moons' movements to know whether or not it was closer that night or whatever (is this even possible given its' orbit?), but the siz of it staggered me. It really isn't what it seems. That said, its' current absence makes perfect sense.

Yup, the moon was there last night in the southern hemisphere anyway. A thin sliver. But, could anyone please tell me what the huge star or cluster of stars was that I saw in the eastern sky. It was the brightest lights I've ever seen in the sky and there didn't seem to be any 'twinkling'. It/they was really steady and bright. It's getting warmer now, here in New Zealand and I have just started leaving my curtains open at night, so it probably has been there for sometime, I don't know. It looked sort of triangular in shape. I admit, I'm only an occasional sky watcher, but I do admire the vault of the cosmos when I am out there. This was something of a size and shape and intensity I'd never seen before!

i have a strange compulsion to say pleiades, I don't even know if they are visible from the southern hemisphere, but there you go, that should get the ball rolling.
At least that feeling to enter into the discuss has passed
