Hello all,

I just wanted to create a thread for people to post all news and updates concerning events related to Occupy Wall Street.

Occupy Wall Street (livestream):
http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution

Occupy Los Angeles officially begins October 1st (live stream): http://www.livestream.com/owslosangeles

Occupy Dallas officially kicks off October 6th (website coming very soon):

It looks as if it's about to come to a tipping point. What I mean is that the MSM will no longer be able to ignore coverage of this movement (as of yet the only show I know of that has given any of this the coverage it deserves is Lawrence O'Donnell's "The Last Word" on MSNBC). A number of Unions have begun to support the movement and that means more people. Also, other initiatives are popping up around the country in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street protests.

Actually, similar events are in the works for over 50 cities around the country ... Silence that!

Thank you Vivek for this post! I am doing my best to get the word out locally. I believe these protesters have touched the heart strings of America, and others around the world. This very well could be the revolution that this country needs!

Support this cause if you can.

They are supposed to march on the police center of operations tomorrow (Friday: 9/30).

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/sns-rt-us-usa-protests-wallstreettre78s4hk-20110929,0,7347868.story

A member of TWU has said that "they" would join the protest around mid-afternoon tomorrow. Now, the TWU has around 38,000 actively working members. I'm not sure how many will join tomorrow, but it should be a sizable increase to the numbers Occupy Wall Street currently has.

TWU Local 100 website:

http://www.twulocal100.org/get-there-twu

News article about TWU announcement of solidarity with Occupy Wall Street movement:

UPDATE:

The protesters will march to demonstrate at One Police Plaza at 5:30pm tomorrow, so the TWU participants will have joined the group by then.

Here is the source. Look on the right side of this webpage (link below) at the agenda column and click on the "5:30pm Demonstration" link for further details.

Here's a new Huffington Post article:

A few excerpts:

"...local Financial District residents had voted down a resolution against the protesters at a community board meeting -- a welcome signal of support. But, the speaker added, some locals were still concerned about noise at night, so members of Occupy Wall Street were going to sit down and meet with them."

"With the group's priorities so diverse, it's unclear how long the Occupy Wall Street movement will actually stick around. The group has yet to formalize a list of demands or conditions under which it might disperse."

"...the cause is gaining momentum outside New York. Similar protests have been held or are being planned in dozens of other cities."

"The lack of clear direction may eventually prove a stumbling block to the occupiers, but the mood in lower Manhattan this week was one of cheerful energy. A sign -- one of perhaps 100 strewn about the square, or being waved to and fro by demonstrators -- read," DEMOCRACY MAY BE HARD BUT AT LEAST WE ARE DOING IT."

"What's change?" said Rob, a protester who said he has worked in minimum wage jobs all his life, and asked not to be identified by his full name. "What isn't change? We're here. That's change."

John Cassidy (who writes about business, economics, and finance) has just published a new blog about OWS on The New Yorker's website.

A few excerpts:

"Over the past couple of days, the protesters, who are occupying Zuccotti Park, between Broadway and Trinity Place, have garnered headlines as far afield as London, Athens, and Jerusalem, as well the support of Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, Cornel West, and Noam Chomsky. Where their protest goes from here is hard to say—it is supposed to last several months—but safe to say it has already succeeded beyond the imagination of its organizers, whoever they are."

"Now the protesters’ numbers are growing, presenting a dilemma for Kelly and his billionaire boss Mayor Bloomberg."

They have a phone number that has been assigned to the info desk out there at Zuccotti Park!

Call to to give support/concerns/inquiries!

'One Liberty Plaza' has apparently been validated as their address.

From above link: They're also using stores and restaurants' bathrooms in the area, though "one girl got yelled at for brushing her teeth in McDonald's."

I laughed out loud at that one.

Seems they are just as unsure about their cause as I am. As John said, what is the plan?

Jeffrey

Yes, this is a concern, as some Unions will join them over the next several days and in my opinion possibly hijack the movement (the agenda/end game of this is mixed up enough as it is). I have tried calling, but to no avail, as I have the same questions as you do. We will see over the next week I think. It will either crumble, or become more focused and cohesive (cause/goal wise). Either way, something has started here. This article helped settle some things for me. That's all I got for ya! I'm just happy to see people taking action against the greed and corruption of this countries banksters (I think they will become clearer and more directed soon, I hope).

Occupy Boston begins tonight! Here is an article (from Forbes online) about the gathering:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/peterjreilly/2011/09/30/occupy-wall-street-in-boston-tonight/

Here is an excerpt:

"Through the use of direct democracy, Occupy Boston is working to define and solve the problems of: an opaque and exclusive government, a Wall Street without conscience, and a state struggling to guarantee basic human rights. Everyone is invited to join this conversation about reforming how business and government operate.

In the coming days and weeks, Occupy Boston will persist in advocating the need for change, defining the change we need, and reaching out to policy-makers, business leaders, and the citizens of our Republic in this mission.”Our country is owned by the top 1%. We are the 99%.”

Join the conversation!"

These are not the demands you're looking for.

Excerpt from interview with Occupy Wall Street protester:

"Q: What are the demands of the protesters?"

"A: Ugh—the zillion-dollar question. Again, the original Adbusters call asked, “What is our one demand?” Technically, there isn’t one yet. In the weeks leading up to September 17, the NYC General Assembly seemed to be veering away from the language of “demands” in the first place, largely because government institutions are already so shot through with corporate money that making specific demands would be pointless until the movement grew stronger politically. Instead, to begin with, they opted to make their demand the occupation itself—and the direct democracy taking place there—which in turn may or may not come up with some specific demand. When you think about it, this act is actually a pretty powerful statement against the corruption that Wall Street has come to represent. But since thinking is often too much to ask of the American mass media, the question of demands has turned into a massive PR challenge."

New Huffington Post article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-s-goodman/occupy-wall-street-protests_b_989125.html

A few excerpts:

"So many issues, and so little coherence, one wants to say. Pick one or two and organize on those."

"What do they all want? It's a natural question, yet the lack of clear answer does not invalidate the ferment that has spawned this movement. "I'm here wondering the same thing," says Yost. "But I'm sick of staying at home and watching the Daily Show, and this is kind of my first step. I don't want to go down without speaking my voice."

"Beneath the familiar trappings of a youth-led protest movement, a current of unhappiness is rising to the fore, challenging the apathy that afflicts the country despite the steady erosion of economic opportunities for the vast majority of working people. If a sustained challenge to apathy is all this group can ultimately muster, that counts for something." (emphasis added)

I just came back from the protest but didn’t stay too long because I’m still on the clock
.
There’s a lot of good energy there and I really didn’t want to leave.
Also, there’s a surge of curious tourists looking on, tons and tons of them snapping pictures on the streets and double decker tour buses. Celebs are showing up and the crowd has grown over the days. I’m expecting it to grow more over the weekend. They are cooperating so well, forming designated areas for eating, sleeping, etc… some stores in the area are providing goods and services too. Everyone was actually working together, it’s beautiful. This is just a small fraction of what we can do when we put our minds to it.

Someone even designed an app for the people to use to combat kettling. Here’s a story about it in the paper…http://www.nydailynews.com/tech_guide/2011/09/28/2011-09-28_occupy_wall_street_protesters_in_new_york_use_iphone_android_app_vibe_to_communi.html

My apologies as well. I was in such a hurry to head to Boston that I didn't notice Vivek already posted a link to occupy together.

Wanted to join Occupy Boston when it began tonight at 6pm, but life got in the way. Perhaps waiting until Monday when the offices are actually open will turn out to be a better plan. It's been many years since I've stood up and taken action on something I believe has a chance to make a difference. Don't know how this will end, but I think something is being awakened in people that will make it difficult, if not impossible, for them to go back to sleep again. This movement has pointed straight at the heart of the beast...the bankers.

So far it appears to me that most of the protesters may not have done anything like this before. And airline pilots joining the march? Who would have thought it? Not your usual group of Bohemians and "hippies", though I suspect they will join in should things turn nasty...their past experience will help.

No matter how long "Occupy Wall Street" lasts, imho it is just the beginning.

Live updates on the march at One Police Plaza:

Excerpt: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/sep/30/occuply-wall-street-march-police-plaza?newsfeed=true

"6.30pm: Looking at the photographs and video of the march coming in on Twitter, it's quite clearly the biggest demonstration since the Occupy Wall Street protests began. Thousands of people thronged through the streets of Lower Manhattan, in what is evidently a peaceful and good-humoured protest."

THE LATEST ON THE GROWING PROTEST MOVEMENT AGAINST THE CORPORATE DOMINATION OF AMERICA

Nobody Can Predict The Moment Of Revolution ( Occupy Wall Street ) Excellent! Must Watch!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwWInp75ua0
We want to share insights into the formation of a new social movement as it is still taking shape in real time. The video was shot during the 5th and 6th day of the occupation. This idea to occupy the financial district in New York City was inspired by recent uprisings in Spain, Greece, Egypt, and Tunisia which most of us were following online. Despite of the corporate media's effort to silence the protests, and Yahoo's attempt to to censor it in e-mail communication, the occupation is growing in numbers and spreading to other cities in the US and abroad. Please forward our video to like-minded people via email, facebook, twitter - and make the voices of dissent circulate.

Welcome to OCCUPY TOGETHER, a hub for all of the events springing up across the country in solidarity with Occupy Wall St. As we have followed the news on facebook, twitter, and the various live feeds across the internet, we felt compelled to build a site that would help spread the word as more protests organize across the country. We hope to provide people with information about events that are organizing, ongoing, and building across the U.S. as we, the 99%, take action against the greed and corruption of the 1%.
(...) We've witnessed an exponentially growing list of communities that are banding together with our brothers and sisters on Wall St. by organizing solidarity actions in their cities. This rise in support has been incredibly inspiring and has promoted many of you to become active in organizing an event in your area. Through the enthusiasm and excitement of wanting to show your support you are all working diligently to organize events in a short amount of time. CLIP

Occupy Wall Street rediscovers the radical imagination

By David Graeber - 25 September 2011

The young people protesting in Wall Street and beyond reject this vain economic order. They have come to reclaim the future

Why are people occupying Wall Street? Why has the occupation - despite the latest police crackdown - sent out sparks across America, within days, inspiring hundreds of people to send pizzas, money, equipment and, now, to start their own movements called OccupyChicago, OccupyFlorida, in OccupyDenver or OccupyLA?

There are obvious reasons. We are watching the beginnings of the defiant self-assertion of a new generation of Americans, a generation who are looking forward to finishing their education with no jobs, no future, but still saddled with enormous and unforgivable debt. Most, I found, were of working-class or otherwise modest backgrounds, kids who did exactly what they were told they should: studied, got into college, and are now not just being punished for it, but humiliated - faced with a life of being treated as deadbeats, moral reprobates.

Is it really surprising they would like to have a word with the financial magnates who stole their future?

Just as in Europe, we are seeing the results of colossal social failure. The occupiers are the very sort of people, brimming with ideas, whose energies a healthy society would be marshaling to improve life for everyone. Instead, they are using it to envision ways to bring the whole system down.

But the ultimate failure here is of imagination. What we are witnessing can also be seen as a demand to finally have a conversation we were all supposed to have back in 2008. There was a moment, after the near-collapse of the world's financial architecture, when anything seemed possible.

Everything we'd been told for the last decade turned out to be a lie. Markets did not run themselves; creators of financial instruments were not infallible geniuses; and debts did not really need to be repaid - in fact, money itself was revealed to be a political instrument, trillions of dollars of which could be whisked in or out of existence overnight if governments or central banks required it. Even the Economist was running headlines like "Capitalism: Was it a Good Idea?"

It seemed the time had come to rethink everything: the very nature of markets, money, debt; to ask what an "economy" is actually for. This lasted perhaps two weeks. Then, in one of the most colossal failures of nerve in history, we all collectively clapped our hands over our ears and tried to put things back as close as possible to the way they'd been before.

Perhaps, it's not surprising. It's becoming increasingly obvious that the real priority of those running the world for the last few decades has not been creating a viable form of capitalism, but rather, convincing us all that the current form of capitalism is the only conceivable economic system, so its flaws are irrelevant. As a result, we're all sitting around dumbfounded as the whole apparatus falls apart.

What we've learned now is that the economic crisis of the 1970s never really went away. It was fobbed off by cheap credit at home and massive plunder abroad - the latter, in the name of the "third world debt crisis". But the global south fought back. The "alter-globalisation movement", was in the end, successful: the IMF has been driven out of East Asia and Latin America, just as it is now being driven from the Middle East. As a result, the debt crisis has come home to Europe and North America, replete with the exact same approach: declare a financial crisis, appoint supposedly neutral technocrats to manage it, and then engage in an orgy of plunder in the name of "austerity".

The form of resistance that has emerged looks remarkably similar to the old global justice movement, too: we see the rejection of old-fashioned party politics, the same embrace of radical diversity, the same emphasis on inventing new forms of democracy from below. What's different is largely the target: where in 2000, it was directed at the power of unprecedented new planetary bureaucracies (the WTO, IMF, World Bank, Nafta), institutions with no democratic accountability, which existed only to serve the interests of transnational capital; now, it is at the entire political classes of countries like Greece, Spain and, now, the US - for exactly the same reason. This is why protesters are often hesitant even to issue formal demands, since that might imply recognising the legitimacy of the politicians against whom they are ranged.

When the history is finally written, though, it's likely all of this tumult - beginning with the Arab Spring - will be remembered as the opening salvo in a wave of negotiations over the dissolution of the American Empire. Thirty years of relentless prioritising of propaganda over substance, and snuffing out anything that might look like a political basis for opposition, might make the prospects for the young protesters look bleak; and it's clear that the rich are determined to seize as large a share of the spoils as remain, tossing a whole generation of young people to the wolves in order to do so. But history is not on their side.

We might do well to consider the collapse of the European colonial empires. It certainly did not lead to the rich successfully grabbing all the cookies, but to the creation of the modern welfare state. We don't know precisely what will come out of this round. But if the occupiers finally manage to break the 30-year stranglehold that has been placed on the human imagination, as in those first weeks after September 2008, everything will once again be on the table - and the occupiers of Wall Street and other cities around the US will have done us the greatest favour anyone possibly can.

How Anonymous emerged to Occupy Wall Street

By Ayesha Kazmi - 27 September 2011

Mocked at first by some, Occupy Wall Street is showing the potential of online 'hacktivism' allied with street protest.

Defying harsh critiques from Stephen Colbert and slews of bloggers who scoffed last week at the "leaderless", "directionless", Frisbee-throwing hipsters camping out on cardboard at a random New York City park in the financial district, Occupy Wall Street appears to be gaining ground. From the modest 200 occupiers last week, numbers of protesters rose to an estimated peak of approximately 3,000 to 5,000 at the weekend's march. Media attention has grown exponentially.

After taking their inspiration from the Egyptian "one demand" model, Occupy Wall Street have now released their list of "one" demands, bringing much-needed clarity to their objectives. The movement has moved to reach out to a broader base, including labor unions. Last week's execution of Troy Davis also contributed to the growth of Occupy Wall Street as crowds of protesters in Zucotti Park, renamed Liberty Plaza, swelled to approximately 1,500 last Thursday night demanding an end to capital punishment.

Violence caught on camera over the weekend of police arresting approximately 80 protesters and, in one now-notorious case, apparently spraying mace into the faces of female protesters has generated an outcry over the NYPD's "cowardly" use of force on peaceful protesters. Thanks to these two incidents, says one protester, Danny Garza, "Occupy Wall Street has gotten bigger than we ever thought it could be."

But the protest's profile cannot be measured purely in numbers of street protesters: on the periphery of Liberty Plaza is a parallel internet-based activism buttressing the movement. Under the banner of the virtual collective Anonymous, these "hacktivists" are now engaged in the physical action of street protest. "Groundfags" in Liberty Park communicate back and forth with online activists. The new dynamics of combined street and online activism have significantly underpinned Occupy Wall Street as a distinctive new movement.

"We can physically be at a protest one day and the next day show up online," according to an Anonymous activist who goes by the name of "MotorMouth". The most concrete example of this symbiotic relationship is the rapid online identification by Anonymous activists of an NYPD officer they claim to have been the perpetrator in the pepper-spray incident.

Naming an individual police officer may be a controversial tactic, but Occupy Wall Street has used social networking media as a positive organisational tool. When it emerged that a handful of activists were prepared to incite rioting and provoke the police days before Occupy Wall Street was to begin, Anonymous developed a Twitter application called URGE, launching an online campaign designed to quell potential violence. Anonymous "culture-jammed" Twitter with messages to keep protests peaceful, using top Twitter trends from around the world.

The involvement of Anonymous activists has also helped the movement make new connections. When activists expressed outrage at Troy Davis's execution on Wednesday night, Anonymous linked the death penalty with the protests. One Anonymous figure, by the name of "Jackal", says:

"This is a new way to protest. Many of us have done our fair share of street protesting. But they drag us into the streets, and they mace us. Now we have brought our protests into the online social media space. We do it all at once - the street protesting along with our distributed denial of service [DDoS] attacks. We are a bit of an online flash mob."

What will become of Occupy Wall Street is uncertain: protesters now face eviction from Zucotti Park; yet the movement has sparked similar activism in Chicago, Boston, Denver and other cities throughout the United States. Much has been written about the "Twitter revolution" dimension of the Arab Spring; now it looks as though, in this emerging alliance between street protest and online activism, the Arab Spring is turning to American.

The lack of direction, of focused intent with this movement makes it very boring. If they dont get it together soon they will loose what little momentum that they have.

they need a leader
they need a mandate

Why should I bother to motivate myself to go to a city and protest when I haven't a clear idea about what this is all about
especially, hypothetically, if I have to leave my low paying job and risk loosing it and my housing?
and I think thats what most people are thinking..
for gods sake they are in the most populated city in the US and they could barely get any people out there.
even the poorest can rub a few cents together for the subway to get there.

I understand what you are saying ...

... (the agenda/end game of this is mixed up enough as it is). I have tried calling, but to no avail, as I have the same questions as you do. We will see over the next week I think. It will either crumble, or become more focused and cohesive (cause/goal wise). Either way, something has started here. This article helped settle some things for me. That's all I got for ya! I'm just happy to see people taking action against the greed and corruption of this countries bankters (I think they will become clearer and more directed soon, I hope).

Well, the Marines have landed on Wall Street! May Angels guide their way and remove all obstacles in their path. Woo Woo! xoxoxox

The Marines are coming to Wall St...(to PROTECT the protestors) "I'm heading up there tonight in my dress blues. So far, 15 of my fellow marine buddies are meeting me there, also in Uniform. I want to send the following message to Wall St and Congress: I didn't fight for Wall St. I fought for America. Now it's Congress' turn. My true hope, though, is that we Veterans can act as first line of defense between the police and the protester. If they want to get to some protesters so they can mace them, they will have to get through the ****ing Marine Corps first. Let's see a cop mace a bunch of decorated war vets. I apologize now for typos and errors. Typing this on iPhone whilst heading to NYC. We can organize once we're there. That's what we do best. If you see someone in uniform, gather together. A formation will be held tonight at 10PM. We all took an oath to uphold, protect and defend the constitution of this country. That's what we will be doing. Hope to see you there!!"

Here's a new article from the New York Times online: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/02/opinion/sunday/kristof-the-bankers-and-the-revolutionaries.html

A few excerpts:

"I tweeted that the protest reminded me a bit of Tahrir Square in Cairo, and that raised eyebrows. True, no bullets are whizzing around, and the movement won’t unseat any dictators. But there is the same cohort of alienated young people, and the same savvy use of Twitter and other social media to recruit more participants. Most of all, there’s a similar tide of youthful frustration with a political and economic system that protesters regard as broken, corrupt, unresponsive and unaccountable."

"I don’t share the antimarket sentiments of many of the protesters. Banks are invaluable institutions that, when functioning properly, move capital to its best use and raise living standards. But it’s also true that soaring leverage not only nurtured soaring bank profits in good years, but also soaring risks for the public in bad years. In effect, the banks socialized risk and privatized profits. Securitizing mortgages, for example, made many bankers wealthy while ultimately leaving governments indebted and citizens homeless."

"We’ve seen that inadequately regulated, too-big-to-fail banks can undermine the public interest rather than serve it — and in the last few years, banks got away with murder. It’s infuriating to see bankers who were rescued by taxpayers now moan about regulations intended to prevent the next bail-out. And it’s important that protesters spotlight rising inequality: does it feel right to anyone that the top 1 percent of Americans now possess a greater collective net worth than the entire bottom 90 percent?"

"Much of the sloganeering at “Occupy Wall Street” is pretty silly — but so is the self-righteous sloganeering of Wall Street itself. And if a ragtag band of youthful protesters can help bring a dose of accountability and equity to our financial system, more power to them."

Wall Street protest shuts half of Brooklyn Bridge
By COLLEEN LONG - Associated Press | AP – 3 hrs ago (I posted this about 9:10 pm)

NEW YORK (AP) — The Brooklyn Bridge has been shut down in one direction after protesters camped out near Wall Street spilled onto the roadway.

Police have made dozens of arrests and were continuing to stop people illegally blocking the roadway Saturday evening.

http://news.yahoo.com/wall-street-protest-shuts-half-brooklyn-bridge-220134996.html

Demonstrators are railing against corporate greed, global warming and social inequality, among other grievances.

The group has been camped near the Financial District for two weeks and clashed with police on earlier occasions. A Friday march to police headquarters was peaceful.

Earlier Saturday, two other marches went over the bridge without problems. One was from Brooklyn to Manhattan by a group opposed to genetically modified food. Another in the opposite direction marched against poverty.

Here is a new article from The Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/josh-silver/occupy-wall-street-protests_b_991163.html?ir=Yahoo

Some excerpts:

"The Wall Street protests represent the most potentially transforming political movement in generations: finally a revolt against the root problem that corrupts and paralyzes U.S. government. And the nascent movement might actually succeed if we stop turning ordinary Americans against each other along the tired and destructive battle lines of left vs. right."

"The profound change represented by of Wall Street protests is that the people in the streets have finally zeroed on the real culprit: Wall Street, K Street, and unchecked corporate control of our government. While the protests are proudly decentralized and leaderless, the unifying theme is "revoking corporate personhood" and "campaign finance reform" that would reverse the January 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court decision that lifted the flood gates to unlimited corporate money in elections."

"The actual policies that will save our democracy are wonky, and the list is long -- I will save that for a subsequent post. In the meantime, remember: before any lasting structural reform will advance, we must build a diverse movement of millions that cannot be ignored. Americans from the right and left must abandon the polarizing rhetoric from our leaders and our TV screens, and join hands in support of a 21st century democracy reform agenda that reclaims our government from moneyed special interests. The future of our nation depends on it. The time has come. The beginning of a much larger uprising is at hand. The journey begins at the Occupy Wall Street website or Rootstrikers.org."

If these protesters believe that Jamie Diamond is the source of their problem they have a long long way to go to figuring out who and what they are fighting against. ... until they call the Rockefellers and and Rothchilds and those of the Bilderberg goup onto the carpet and collectively ring their necks in public forum, and find a way to disempower them from political and economic power, returning nations like the US and UK and so many others to true Republics and Democracy all of this will be much for naught.

Do not have time to watch the video now but Dylan Ratigan has his own little movement going. Not sure if it is mentioned in this clip.

Here is a link to an article on the efforts happening in San Francisco. The best part (I loved) is to flip through the pictures of signs in the slideshow. Some say there is no cohesive method to the madness but these signs speak a 1,000 words about all the many, many reasons these conditions will not continue ~ indeed, cannot continue.

They touch each and every one of us and there is a very clear and wonderful representation of us out there in the streets. Bravo! it's well worth a few moments to consider and remember what is driving this wonderful movement for beneficial change. I salute all those taking part in peaceful protests at this present moment and send blessings!

Check out this slideshow if you get the chance. It's heartwarming and endearing. Let us all come together with unity and purpose and bring about wonderful, kind, and more loving changes to the world around us.

All of the talking heads don't get it, the protesters are tired of the matrix. forget the specifics, everything is broken and no more waiting for politicians to fix it.

Hi Folks
As my first Reply, I'd like to contribute a link to the AdBusters site, ground zero for the OWS movement. It was Kalle Lasn, editor of the magazine, who first advocated the occupation of Wallstreet, and the site has been central to the activities there and worldwide since. They've got real-time postings from around the world, as well as updates & commentators who are active and involved:

Adbusters, along with MoveOn.org are huge contributors to the Obama campaign/administration. A good majority of his cabinet is staffed by Wall St, and big bank higher-ups. These organizations have hijacked the Occupy movement; if positive change comes out of it all, I will be shocked.

Could you provide a link to the information/claims you have posted. Adbusters helped kick-start the protests. Certainly they don't speak for everyone at the protest. Surely some of the members on this site supported Obama, and "a good majority of his cabinet is staffed by Wall St, and big bank higher-ups", so are they in on it too?

moveon.org have attempted to co-opt #OWS, but this was addressed a couple of weeks ago by the following succinct statement from Occupy Wall Street: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wFMUPSRIgeg/To9OBfxCJTI/AAAAAAAAAZI/QiCYsxEZ4AA/s1600/ows%2Bmove%2Bon.jpg (no embedded image due to language warning). You all may have an inkling that it's almost beyond being co-opted, at least OWS itself is. This is a true grassroots movement.

Hackers target Oakland police after Occupy protest

"As Occupy Wall Street protesters continued to rally in Oakland, Calif., hackers today targeted the Web site for the city's police department and offered a $1,000 reward for information on police action that appears to have left a protester injured. "

eaglespirit,

what does it mean to "bump" a response or thread?

The video to all police officers...excellent. If this could be sent to police stations all over the US etc. and if only it could be watched from the place of caring and compassion for the innocent, who wish no harm towards another person, including the officer's who get off on doing harm to another. :(

It means to post on a thread with the purpose of moving (bumping) it to the top of the list of most recently updated threads.

Metacurrency Project on Re-visioning Money Day at OWS

http://vimeo.com/31164740

....as brought forth in this presentation, ..."there is 'ridiculous' availability of abundance"...

WE have to learn(re-learn) to shift our thought processes and actions to that flow!

edited to add this as this theme is becoming stronger here at Avalon on a number of threads that Wade's thread helped bring about. Thank You All that are opening to this.

This OWS movement has many wonderful facets to it that are going to open many new minds and hearts now, and bring this energy of change together for the good in this acceleration...imho!

Hi all,

Friday morning the police and Fire department move in and confiscated all their generators (suddenly they're claiming it’s a fire hazard). They did this knowing the weekend was going to bring snow and the cold. As of now the OWS protesters have found a way to create energy by peddling a bike. They are also raising money to get at least 11 more bikes so they can power the whole park. This type of commitment should not go unnoticed nor without reward. These people are out there for us and deserve every bit of support. If they fail, we all fail because I doubt anyone else will step up to the plate like these brave individuals did. Anyone wanting to assist I’m sure you’ll find a way. I just wanted to pass off this bit of info because I’m sure the media is not reporting it.

Peace

Greetings from Ireland!

I would suggest to all of you who have the possibility to join the movement. I have spent time in this movement in Spain this summer, and am now in the Irish camps. This IS a symptom of a spiritual awakening, and if more of you and us all are joining in, putting our energy in this, it can bloom even more.

I have been talking with a lot of the people in the camps, and I meet aware people who won't be quiet any more.

In the mainstream media it looks like a joke, but there is no limits to what can be accomplished.

Blessings!

The following is an email I received from a friend who is participating in the Movement in NYC:

"The Wall Street protests have featured a wide variety of inspirational speakers from unions, the department of education, world activists, some old schoolers from the Civil Rights movement, celebrities, etc. The energy is infectious pretty much round the clock. There is an outdoor cafe that serves free food that has been infiltrated by some homeless, so they are trying to alter the food system. There are ex-Marines here to protect. They wear sweaters that say "Guardian Angels." I have not seen any standoffs between the guardian angels and police. A generator and some heating lamps were confiscated by order of our piece of **** mayor Bloomberg, but our attorneys are working on getting them back. "

My Note: While some of you have issues with them not wanting to feed the homeless - IMO that is another issue. These camps were set up specifically to take care of those participating in the movement - not for those who just want to come and eat, whether homeless or not. I have great compassion for the homeless and am involved with a group that brings them blankets, food, etc on a weekly basis. Perhaps if we all get involved with the movement and separately take of the homeless, we can keep more folks from becoming homeless.
