Nimoy, however, was great. Like he was a real actor surrounded by, well, Shatner. At first glance Spock seems like a straightforward and simple character pure unflappable Vulcan but, Nimoy really did a good job of bringing Spock's internal human/Vulcan struggle to the surface in subtle ways, giving the impression that the human in him was constantly roiling underneath the surface, on the verge of busting out . Spock was almost emotionless...

Leonard Nimoy.. What an incredible human being.. I had the chance to listen to a lecture he gave in the late 1970s at Ham Hall (holds several thousand) at UNLV here in Las Vegas coinsiding with the release of his photography, poetry book... "I am not Spock".. He mesmerized the entire audience (probably three fourths male). I got in line 2 hrs ahead of doors and ran full blast (like everyone else) to make it center of 2nd row ..The podium was 10 feet straight in front of me. He is so brilliant, articulate,funny.. When he had Q & A time after calling on about 5 guys for questions a woman about half way back in the room stood up and yelled "Why arent you calling on any women for questions?" he responded"Do you have a question?" she said "ya, what are you doing after the show later tonight?" she said it very sexy and called his lecture /talk a show...without missing a beat he replied in a Spock voice " I don't know, what did you have in mind" her mouth dropped open, the audience roared with laughter and she sat down. I also got to attend the press conference afterwards ( a friend had a spare set of credentials) There were reporters there from all over the world. ONly a handful of women.. I stood out like a sore thumb, he kept glancing my way with a slight snicker (he knew I wasnt press) that night was a highlight for me at that time. what an amazing man. What an amazing energy. Im a big fan of Star Trek and Living in Las Vegas all of these years I never went to a single Star Trek convention...Wish I would have. I watched the series from day one with my brothers and father,, my sisters thought I was nuts. The character of Spock as a role model gave me the good sense to remain calm and logical many times.. Live Long and Prosper everyone.

Ok - I admit it - I'm a Trekker. One of my favourite lines from Leonard - (as Spock) delivered a few times in the TREK movies (and was borrowed, originally from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle/Sherlock Holmes)

"When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the Truth"

May our memory of Leonard and Spock also Live Long and Prosper :)

Hey, you dissing Shatner? He's a decent actor and damn good comedic actor. Just watch him on Boston Legal. Admittedly, some of his roles are corny and his deliver on Star Trek was sometimes over the top. I think he's a pretty good guy too.

Most of the other actors from Star Trek did not have much respect for Shatner ... but he has his moments on film ...

William Shatner, an enigma, to be sure, and a very, very funny man. We'll have to start another thread in his honour. :)

Leonard Nimoy, a very fine man indeed, and a thoughtful, sensitive artist. Has anyone seen his incredible one-man performance as the brother of Vincent Van Gogh? Absolutely brilliant.

I Grok Spock.

William Shatner's character Denny Crane on Boston Legal has changed my image of the man. Denny Crane is a funny mofo.

Here's a Leonard Nimoy hero story.

He persuaded Paramount to bus 300 residents from Vulcan Alberta to Calgary for a special screening of the new Star Trek. Originally the mayor of Vulcan had asked Paramount if they could have a screening in their town. Paramount responded with a (paraphrased) "No way! Your theater sucks too badly." (it's a small town) Leonard caught wind of this and made a few calls for the residents to be bussed to Calgary.
