U.S. Drug Policy Would Be Imposed Globally By New House Bill

The House Judiciary Committee passed a bill yesterday that would make it a federal crime for U.S. residents to discuss or plan activities on foreign soil that, if carried out in the U.S., would violate the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) -- even if the planned activities are legal in the countries where they're carried out. The new law, sponsored by Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) allows prosecutors to bring conspiracy charges against anyone who discusses, plans or advises someone else to engage in any activity that violates the CSA, the massive federal law that prohibits drugs like marijuana and strictly regulates prescription medication.

This had Codex Alimentarius written all over it, although the CSA was established back in the '70's.

I looked for a comprehensive list of Controlled Substances, but only found a 2009 partial (with the most "dreaded" chemicals) listing. Every governmental site I clicked gave me an "error" page......hmmm.

I also wonder what percussions this will have on Americans seeking alternative medical therapies not recognized in the US... there are lots of pharmaceuticals made in Europe that are not sold in the States, you know, as well as all "natural" remedies...according to the CSA, anything not studied, certified and/or could cause psychological/physical dependency is illegal.

What about a nice peppermint tea when you feel a cold coming on...remember this?

This looks like a bold closing of US borders to any "alternative" medical therapies, as well as extending US policy throughout the word by rendering the American tourist hostage of US law abroad while hiding behind the shadow of "hard drug" abuse.
