Do not accuse me of spreading fear porn....this is presented here as information only, for speculation and dissection....use discernment. This came in an email this morning from James Gilliland....does anyone know anything about this? Do you know who this Bruce C. Murray is? Is the information from Stereo Soho accurate?

G'day kathymarie,
Murray is on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_C._Murray
and has his own page at caltech: http://www.gps.caltech.edu/~bcm/HomePage/
This does not appear to be legitimate, it just doesn't sound right coming from a Professor and ex-director of JPL.
More than likely a disgruntled (ex-)student or competitor...
I also don't know what this is about imagery from SOHO.
Anyone got any idea what asteroid "about the size of a small town" this is talking about?
The only thing I can see for the 17th is 2009TM8 (http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=2009%20TM8&orb=1) which is only about 8 metres in size and not anticipated to hit diddly squat for the foreseeable...
Kind Regards, :yo:

What might happen if one of these were to impact the moon?

These are all really small asteroids. We donīt have to worry about them.
And the second link is from 2010.

That's right, i was just trying to show that these things are flying past the Earth all the time and fairly close to boot.

Yeah. However, the Earth is shielded against small asteroids. Most of them would just burn on entrance.

No idea about this one ...
I do believe we are coming into many such possibilities. I have believed this was coming for a number of years. I would add that *perhaps* we are offered "protection" at the same time.
If you want to roll up your sleeves and dig into it ... then:
