The Meaning of "Austerity"..?
..."Austerity" is one of those Orwellian terms that has been injected into our political discourse precisely because it is a nice-sounding word for a very painful reality. "Austerity" implies discipline, self-restraint, even nobility. "Austerity" is prudent. "Austerity" is modest. "Austerity" is a virtue. It is an end in itself.
If the IMF or the European Central Bank come to the people of a collapsing European nation and tell them to sacrifice their pensions and their savings and their very standard of living all for a debt that their government has fraudulently racked up in their name, no one would go for it, and rightly so.
But tell those same people that they need to implement "austerity measures" in order to "get back on their feet" economically, and many will be willing to live in the harshest of conditions, content to put up with the dismantling of their nation itself in the vain hope that by giving more power to the international financial institutions they can somehow avoid economic collapse...

PS - With so much "Austerity" playing out amongst us from all around the world...
...it was my hope that some like myself actually knew what it really means an how it is impacting our everday lives...

Austerity = Making US pay for THEIR mistakes (and I use the term "mistakes" very loosely - really I mean "****ing outright robbery of our assets from under our noses to line their greedy f'ing pockets, not to mention giving those f'ckers more money with which to line thier filthy sick slimy pockets when really they should have been giving them an arsewhipping").
Maybe it's just me, but as soon as I hear the word Austerity, I think "uh-oh they're going to screrw everybody over."
Hitlers' rise to power began with Austerity measures. Without so-called "Austerity", we would likely never have had Hitler in control of Germany. We should be very afraid. Who are they readying the throne for this time?
But then again, the lie is already unravelling. I can feel it. I doubt they'll even get close to achieving their goals this time.

Well, austerity can also be taken another way and used to empower oneself. Our over consuming, rubbish engendering system could do with some austerity. But it shouldn't need to be imposed. It should be realized and implemented by individuals. How many rubbishy plastic throw away tomorrow, toys from Warehouse, target whatever, does your kid need. Do we really need to buy 'this years' fashion and throw away last years! TV advertising, billboards are screaming at us everywhere to buy this, buy that, even if we can't afford it. There is always the trap of credit to entice us to buy. Meanwhile our rubbish mountains continue to grow!
A call for austerity can be a call to grow community gardens. To get together with friends and neighbors to work out areas of expertise that can be shared with all.

IMHO, the NBN has nothing to do with Austerity and everything to do with building a centralised public data network through which we access the net. Just think about how easy that will be to control or to shut down when there is just *ONE* network to worry about, and not the many which currently exist.
I'm actually all for the NBN, I'd love to have faster internet access......... But I also realise the sheer amount of control over our internet access that gives the government and I *DO* worry about that.

President Obama.
President Obama, with his assassination of Awlaki and expansion of the private military has solidified his place in a long line of minions who have served the British monetary system. The British Empire is finished, but that simply means that now, they are willing to unleash their entire apparatus to move for dictatorship now, in the United States.

Of course it wasn't - Did you read my post fully? I know it's so they can control our internet Access and easily shut it down when it becomes neccessary. Beyond that, I'm afraid I don't see it.... Unless you're saying that they're expecting it to help destroy our economy due to it being unviable in the first place?
