Last weekend, I met Stephen Jenkinson who was giving a conference in my area. It started with the viewing of GriefWalker on Saturday night, followed by a very moving discussion. Then, on Sunday, was a whole day sharing into Grief and the Love of Life. All I can say is that the furniture has been moved inside of me.

«Griefwalker is the National Film Board of Canada's feature length documentay about teacher and ceremonialist Stephen Jenkinson, one of Canada's leading spiritual activist in the care of dying people and their families. Sitting at the bedside of a dying woman, speaking to clinicians whose job it is to delay death as long as possible, Jenkinson bears a message most people do not want to hear: that our deaths are not something to be denied or avoided, but "befriended."

Griefwalker weaves an illuminating picture of a remarkable man. Stephen leaves us with a deeper understanding of how our deaths should be held as "a prized possession... death being the cradle of your love of life." A Harvard-trained theologian, Stephen says there is a "hole inside most of us and it's in the approximate shape of a soul."

Griefwalker is an extraordinary portrait of Stephen Jenkinson and his work, framed by director Tim Wilson's harrowing encounter with his own death as he nearly succumbs to a sudden illness, and with the possible death of someone close to him.»

Griefwalker was filmed over a period of 10 years.
