A fascinating story, certainly! Certainly?

Written in 1903, this short story describes the revenge of a wealthy man who has been very greatly hurt.
A badly hurt person always hurts others... sometimes thousands of times as badly as their own pain.

In his rage, he destroys life on Earth by emptying a huge underground oil reservoir into the Gulf of Mexico. The oil spreads unstoppably to cover all the oceans, so that no more water can evaporate up to build clouds: and because there's no more rain, all life on Earth is destroyed.

This story is more destructive than we might think, because the biggest destruction happens in our minds.

The dreadful pictures of oil-covered oceans lodge in our vision. And like strong magnets, they attract more negative pictures, energies, and emotions - which most people are not able to transform and heal. We are all more or less programmed to give negative ideas a lot of attention. And on this level of existency the destruction of all life on Earth is the worst.

HEALING STARTS WITHIN

In order to grow - and this principle always stays the same -
we move from 1. Thesis to 2. Anti-Thesis to 3. Synthesis.

Here's what I mean:

1. Thesis: We are vividly struck (and emotionally affected) by this strong, negative picture, described by Meyrink: an unbroken oil slick covering all the oceans, no more rain, and the death of all life.

By keeping this in mind (and this happens almost automatically, because it is so graphic and 'sticky') we ADD to a negative universe of thought, which becomes stronger the more people contribute to it. Every such 'universe of thought' tends to become more and more dense.... until it manifests in reality.

That's how the whole creation came into place by the way.

2. Anti-Thesis: To combat this, we often TRY TO AVOID negative pictures and thoughts. This is a reaction which stems from fear. We will certainly succeed to a certain degree... but many negative things will naturally be brought to our attention, just because we're all in this world.

By resisting or refusing to think about or look at something, we give it power and prominence... whether we intend to or not. Closing our eyes does not make something go away, and refusing to think about something is NOT a solution to a real problem.

3. Synthesis: It's always the Synthesis, the viewpoint which stands beyond the first two, that brings Transformation and Healing. But only if we consciously aim to do this!

Meyrink has written a story which ends with a very negative 'hanging' picture which then becomes frozen in our minds. Life on Earth has not yet ended - but he shows us (in his story) that it will. That thought is the last one we experience when we reach the end of his last sentence, so it stays with us. The real problem (within us) is if we stop right there.

The positive, proactive response is to confront this - facing up to the nightmare image with courage - and first of all start an internal process.

Meditation might help to first of all create an atmosphere of growth, love and confidence into infinite development. As spiritual beings we are able to create a Universe of Love and Healing which allows all the different parts of the creation (people, animals, plants, single cells, beings...) to find kreative solutions for difficult situations.

Remember that oil is a natural part of the planet (unlike plastic, which is man-made and can take up to millions of years to biodegrade, in the meantime causing huge damage) - so nature must have thought of natural solutions as well. And we all, as spiritual beings are invited to support them.

This means, for instance: Vast amounts of micro-organisms 'eat' and transform the oil. If our loving attention supports these organisms, instead of adding to the horror, they will do their job even better. It is the same principle when we lovingly care for the cells of our body: they will function in a better way.

And some people will assist by spreading extra micro-organisms physically as well...

Our spiritual presence - and our practical support: Both are very necessary.

And on a more human level: thousands of able, bright and well-intentioned engineers and geologists and (yes, even politicians and journalists) WILL FIND WAYS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM if they are allowed to and supported sufficiently.

The oil spill in the gulf of Mexico can clearly be defined as a catastrophe from human perception. BUT: if we are able to put lots of love, light and constructive creation in this situation, i'm very sure from the deepest of my heart, the problems can be solved by us and by mother earth itself. Let's be confident, let's make up space for creation and let's do it now. We are strong - Earth is strong.

The more society learns from what is happening constructively, the sooner this reality will manifest a solution. I just Don't Buy into the Lovey Dovey (GobbleDeGook) of empowering little bugs through Meditation to eat up all the oil is going to work!

BP have opened up a hole through the mantle of Mother Earth creating an Abiotic Volcano spewing oil out at a rate of 70,000 PSI and approximately 100,000 Barrels per day.

And no amount of Praying to Little Bugs to eat it all up is going to fix it!

Having said that I believe Mother Earth will find a way to heal herself, just as we humans do when we are wounded. Together with Human Ingenuity, Mother Earth and our Benevolent Extraterrestrial Friends eventually this problem will be solved. At what cost to Human, Marine & Animal Life I don't know?

...and that's true. Everything on this planet (and elsewhere) is influenced or affected by thought.

There have to be engineering solutions, of course. Your car needs to be serviced and repaired now and then. But you may be surprised how well and how long it will continue working for you if you love it a little.

The question is: what can we do? You and I are not in the Gulf right now working on the relief well, or helping in the clean-up. So maybe we can lend a hand in other ways. If millions of people do that, we might be surprised at the result.

Dr Masaru Emoto suggested a prayer for the waters of the Gulf (see the post at the top of this page) - because thought has been shown pretty much conclusively to influence the quality of water. This is a practical action he's suggesting, to create a physically measurable change.

Maybe we should all do that. It can only help... and is a more positive action than watching the drama play out on TV (or on the net) and/or sitting feeling helpless.... as many people are.

We shape the world with our thoughts every day... so to help change the world, one strategy is to change our thoughts. The bugs might even feel it.

I absolutely support the idea of focusing on the desire result and meditation definitely helps (more than we think of). Now, dear jackovest, just in case you don't know it yet, EVERYTHING in the universe has consciousness, even "inanimate" things, just because we don't see it it doesn't mean it's not so. Think about this: every thing is made out of matter which is atoms and particles and all those particles are influenced by us, by our consciousness as it's been demonstrated by quantum physics so why not water and bugs? What about the sea floor?
Perhaps it would be more effective to meditate and visualize some kind of healing of the sea floor as a wound who once healed leaves a scar and then we can work on the bug part and purification of the water which I think it's easier.
Just imagine if a lot of people meditate and visualize that this wound closes itself and the spill is stopped without any turmoil. If you think about it, when doing visualization it's easy to imagine the planet as a small globe and the area of the spill would be very easy to see as very treatable, just as a vein that has been ruptured but the rest of the body is still working pretty well.

Please Bill, if You like this idea, can you help to promote it? A few thousands of people doing it it's just enough, we don't need the whole of humanity for this, as Greg Bradden says, just the square foot of 1% of the population involved is necessary to accomplish any goal.

Personally my money would be on the bugs, though I've suspended disbelief to the point that I wouldn't be surprised to see Obama (or more likely someone else from somewhere else) get up on a TV screen and say "Here are some guys from another planet. Theyre here to help. Don't freak out, and please don't kill them."

I'm not expecting acceptance from everybody. We all go through phases and earlier in life my reaction had been similar to yours! :)

In the game of creation we all have the right to deal with challenges in our individual way. Our higher Self gives us a very long rope. The Ego, the Personality is allowed to do what ever it wants - but the effect will come back as an echo - always.

This has always been a challenge for me - but the indian mystics offer the answers for thousands of years.

WANTING and ACTING out of "Knowing-how-things-should-be" is the Ego's game.
Let's call this Thesis (please compare to first post on top of this thread.)

Resisting and not doing anything is just the Antithesis; still on the same level, not better nor worse.

The Synthesis?
Pure spiritual consciousness changes things without using the power of Ego. We do what is there to do, out of an impulse which is connected with the higher Self rather than coming from emotions of the Ego.

I do agree with this. This is the 'third way' (to use an alternative term to Synthesis).

We've been fighting for millions of years. We really have - I have recall going back that far, and not much has changed.

It's like Joe Haldeman's FOREVER WAR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forever_War) (terrific Sci-Fi novel, a work of genius that won a bunch of prizes - about a never-ending intergalactic war).

Polarity doesn't work. We have to go 'upwards' - not 'to this side' or 'to that side'.

The power of intention is unbelievable.
From personal experience.
I have put my hands on a man who was bent over, his spine calcified and felt the energy flow through my body then hands.
His back straightened against all odds, it is normal now.
There have been other such events.
it does not always happen, I cant make it happen.
I dont claim I do it but I have an intention that it will happen.
So If the impossible can happen to a mans back think how powerful is the intention of many to resolve this situation in the Gulf.
Do it anyway and then see what happens. ( The prayer meditation suggested in an earlier post)
