"We've Overthrown the Dictator!" But wait, Obama's Still in Power.
The death of Muammar Qaddafi prompted a presidential speech by Obama yesterday, boasting the successes of American leadership across the world. He said of Libya:
“For four decades, the Qaddafi regime ruled the Libyan people with an iron fist. Basic human rights were denied. Innocent civilians were detained, beaten and killed. And Libya’s wealth was squandered. The enormous potential of the Libyan people was held back, and terror was used as a political weapon.”
The same day of the death of Qaddafi, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton dismissed the suit brought by Representatives Dennis Kucinich, Walter Jones and other congressmen against Obama for violating the Constitution and the war powers act in conducting military operations against Libya without Congressional authorization.
In a footnote, Walton wrote: “While there may conceivably be some political benefit in suing the President and the Secretary of Defense, in light of shrinking judicial budgets, scarce judicial resources, and a heavy caseload, the Court finds it frustrating to expend time and effort adjudicating the re-litigation of settled questions of law.”
For anyone familiar with the case, the war powers act indeed was violated and the justification for it from Obama’s legal adviser Harold Koh, was that the War Power Resolution did not envision the kind of ‘hostilities’ that were seen in Libya. He argued that Americans were not in direct combat on the ground as we were playing a peripheral role by supplying fuel, surveillance and, uh em.. firing deadly missiles from unmanned drones.
But really why would members of congress have to go to the U.S. district court of Washington D.C. if Americans were not the cowards that they’ve become, deathly afraid of popular opinion. Obama’s actions well before the Libyan war had well prompted the need for impeachment. As we have detailed on LaRouchepac.com, Obama isn’t just the continuation of a Bush presidency he’s worse than it, as he has moved towards openly assassinating American citizens. This isn’t just about one violation of the American Constitution, this is a question of weather or not the president will be impeached as a threat to our Republic and the safely of all nations of the globe.
To speak of overthrowing dictator Qadaffi isn’t the point. Obama is currently taking the reins of power away from the American citizenry. If we want to ensure that we’ll have a nation to speak of Obama has to either step down from power or be removed peacefully through impeachment and that quickly.
