I was driving home and saw the moon in it's 'fingernail' sliver phase (I know it's gibbous or waxing or something) anyway it looks strange. Both edges of the 'fingernail' look too thick.
It actually looks like an eclipse of the sun when you can see the corona. Like you can see all of the edges, but the top, bottom and one side are just brighter.
Anyone?

Okay, it's setting in the South sky here in the SW of the US. Maybe someone on the other side of the world can chime in?

Cloudy in my neck of the woods. Opened Stellarium and it looks like the moon is outside the visible area at this time in my location (SE), sorry...

Hello Nearing, this actually occured a month ago here in Perth, it looked absolutely 'other worldly'-i phoned up our
Observatory and asked the Duty Astronomer what was up with the Moon-he said it was perfectly normal, if odd looking,
and that it would happen again on the 29th of October-so you have confirmed his prediction-apparently it depends on the Earthshine back to
the Moon, so you can see a 'corona' of the rest of the Moon, and the silver Sliver...

Thank you for confirming what I saw, GH, I would hate to think my eyes were deceiving me. ;)
A friend of mine who is a Pagan says that this is a a good omen. I hope she is right!!

I did see it. really beautiful. It was just getting ready to set, and it looked larger than normal, but sometime as it sets low it looks that way. The edges did look somewhat elongated. I was driving, and couldn't take a picture.

I saw it too, and it looked normal here in Florida.
